The journey to an Abandoned Soviet Weapons Factory in Dagestan, Russia (CRAZY DAY!) 🇷🇺

- On this crazy day, we were stopped by the KGB (or the FSB as they are now known) as well as the Russian coastguard, as we tried to explore an abandoned Soviet weapons factory off the coast of the Caspian Sea, (near Kaspiysk, Dagestan, Russia).
On the journey out by speedboat from Kaspiysk, to the abandoned missile factory (Tsekh 8) we were surrounded by 3 boats of gun-flashing officers ordering us back to shore. But later on, with their backs turned, we made it on to the Soviet weapons factory to explore this unique piece of 20th century history crumbling into the water.

Stopped by the KGB in an Abandoned Russian Weapons Factory (CRAZY DAY!) 🇷🇺
Enjoyed your video. FYI about the factory. The Soviet torpedo plant - a part of the 'Dagdisel' factory - that was used to make torpedoes. As you know it stands in the middle of the Caspian Sea, surrounded by water.
The idea to build a torpedo plant at sea first arose in 1934. It was planned to build a cement base at the seashore and then transport it to a dedicated place in the sea and then to anchor it to a mass of stones that would reinforce the sea bottom.
The following year, the cement base was already ready. However, the engineers realized that the artificial stone base that was supposed to reinforce the sea bottom would not be sufficiently reliable, unless they drilled an additional cavity in the sea bottom and only then reinforce it with stones.
The idea to build a torpedo plant at sea first arose in 1934. It was planned to build a cement base at the seashore and then transport it to a dedicated place in the sea and then to anchor it to a mass of stones that would reinforce the sea bottom.
The engineers then proceeded to dig a 19-meter-long cavity and the incredulous plan worked: the ferro-cement base was successfully anchored to the sea bottom. It was now possible to erect a factory on it. In 1939, the construction works finished and the plant began producing torpedoes.
As the new factory was cut off from the mainland, workers also had to reside there. For their needs, the unusual place had residential quarters, a canteen and even a library. For further information you can Google, "This old Soviet torpedo factory ISLAND is an adventurer's dream"
That was incredible. I don’t think I could have been so brave to climb up and down from the boat to the factory. So thank you for doing it and doing such a good job of making me feel like I was there every scary step of the way!
There is no KGB in Russia anymore. But if you want, you can go to Belarus. The guys there are still officially called the KGB)
We know it’s FSB, it’s just that most people know the phrase “KGB” better 😊

Thank you so much Nix, really appreciate it, means the world 🥰❤️
It makes me nostalgic to see the city where I was born, miss the local food and especially local bread and milkshakes, miss the streets full of trees even if it's so arid there, also I miss mikrorayons with schools and kindergartens in the middle of them, the sound of kinds laughing and freely playing on the streets and common yards. Hello from Santa Elena, Ecuador!
What a fascinating place. Thank you for sharing with us.

Hi there Matt and Julia we just found your channel a couple of days ago after looking for info on Georgia. We have fallen in love with you both from the word go and are currently binge watching you and are absolutely fascinated. Watched all the Georgian ones, then started at the beginning, so you have just left Lake Baikal as far as we are concerned. We remember you, Julia, from the Bake Off! And we looked up Matts Uncle and found that he went to school (Gresham) in the town where we now live (Holt in Norfolk UK).so we’re practically related right👍🏼 anyway, thank you for keeping so entertained, educated and amused in equal measure. Take care and stay safe xx
Thank you so much Sue! We honestly really appreciate that! So sweet of you 🥰❤️

@@MattandJulia lol it’s ok it was the look on your face that made me giggle. Damn what a cool place to visit.
WoW _ amazing!

In ancient times, there was a land route through the Caspian, approximately in the middle of the current sea. It was part of the Silk Road from Asia to Europe. Also, many years ago, the Caspian was connected to the Black Sea by a strait. Now it is the Kuma-Manych depression (channel)
Thanks 🙂
Interesting
Really interesting 😊❤️
Wow you two are just nuts (in the nicest possible way) my idea of excitement is finding an empty sun lounger , brilliant video as usual I really enjoy seeing all these places 👏👏👏

No bird life? That is stranger. Seems the sea birds would have claimed it.
The lady must be real brave to take her children to the factory with all those climbing n all. When you reached the shore back, there is a black SUV rolling in. I thought well KGB found you again :-)
It’s not KGB. It was the navy.
Well done for making it. Clearly they either make up the rules whenever they fancy it, or could just be institutional paranoia. Good that you didn’t have to bribe the thugs to be allowed there. Very interesting video!
It's funny that cops, military, and construction guys have the same bad jokes all around the world
Amazing how the build buildings in the sea!You made it,what an experience!!Ahhh my question was answered 😉
So glad you enjoyed it Stella 🥰❤️
The Caspian also connected with the Arctic Ocean. This happened through the Southern Urals along the lowlands. During the Ice Age there was a glacier in the North and the water of such rivers as the Yenisei and the Ob flowed south, resting against the glacier in the north. Therefore, in Siberia near Novosibirsk, the huge Vasyugan swamps are still preserved, the Aral Sea was part of this path, and the Caspian seal, or the Caspian seal, still lives in the Caspian!
So interesting. Thanks xx
Glad you enjoyed it Lucy 🤗❤️
That is such a Russian situation where different authorities contradict each other with what you're allowed and not allowed to do. However I doubt anywhere in the UK would let you explore such ruins without worrying about health and safety!
I love watching your vlogs...very inspiring indeed...TYSM!!!
With love from Highgate,London 💖
So glad you enjoyed it! Lots of love 🥰❤️
How do you find these places. Incredible!!
Haha, loooots of research 😃
Come to Crimea in summer!
Wow! This presentation was one of your best. Very interesting piece of history. This presentation was a risky one and challenging. Still you guys let knowing get in your way. Love what your doing.
Thank you so much, really appreciate it!!! 🥰❤️
This was quite an adventure. I wasn't sure if you were being facetious calling the "guards" KGB. Please give credit where it's due, they would be "FSB" now. 🤣
We knnoooww but FSB just wouldn’t have got the clicks 😉❤️
@@MattandJulia That's for sure !🤣
Oh how scary that must have been! 😯 And you got your ass wet as well! Lol😂 That looked so exciting and amazing. The history of this place is incredible. If those walls could talk I can only imagine. Thank you Matt and Julia for taking us on your travels. Love and hugs to you both. 💕💕
Haha, getting our asses wet was the most traumatic part of the day 😀 Thank you so much Julie 🥰❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful video 👌
Thank you so much ❤️
They still produce torpedoes in Dagestan but obviously in a different place.
Absolutely amazing 🤩 thank you for taking us there . I was really worry about you . First I thought they're going to shoot you and then I thought you would never make it out of that amazing building 😂
Haha, we are all safe and sound 😃🥰❤️
Интересные приключения у вас получились! :)
Да не говорите, мы сами обалдели))
A classic torpedo station only for the Soviet Navy in the Caspian Sea. Have you ever been on a visit to Poland along the Hel Peninsula? At one point, a few hundred meters from the shore, there are two very similar objects. Both were built during the German occupation of Poland. One is the Luftwaffe experimental torpedo station for experiments with aviation torpedo weapons. The second is the Kriegsmarine or naval experimental torpedo station. Both were used until the end of the 1970s. After 1945 in the Polish Navy they were known under the slang name as "Formoza", the former name of Taiwan. At the end of the 1960s, they became a training facility for a Polish navy commando team known from then on as "Formoza".
Possible poaching on Steur for caviar !?
Damn! That was sketchy as hell! Extreme exploring. And a little bit of danger always make things more fun!
For sure! 😀 so glad you enjoyed it 🤗❤️
Can't believe your english is so good
Thank you 🙂
my goodness you take us to some exciting places

No sea gulls?

Intersting location to make fotoshooting..but the thing is: if you know what kind of location it is...very sad..scary
Brave souls!!! "We wanna see the missles!" Lol. Liked the video. Beautiful seas.
Haha, in the next episode 😉😁
Marat's instagram isn't there anymore. I wonder if he is alive.

Hello, love your videos..,but, I was wondering is it me or are there No birds anywhere at all around there?
Errrm, from what we remember there were definitely seagulls 😃
That’s an interesting comment, I’m a bit of a bird watcher too and always look for birds in the background of the videos and surprised to see so few. Especially in the country side of Georgia etc. It’s very like real life bird watching isn’t it: we have to be patient and if we’re lucky, get a quick glimpse.

Very interesting, but one wonders if this is a tourist accident waiting to happen.
I agree that was f**kin incredible and so interesting its a shame the place was top secret so we can't see what it looked like before they left it to rot.
I know right! Such a shame 😫
I travelled the whole Russia for free thanks guys
Omg that place looked so dangerous, your poor mothers watching this😳

I bet that was an ancient building. I don't believe the narrative about it. Some folks have channels talking about the evidences of ancient buildings with electricity etc.
