Thanks it took a bit of thinking outside the box to create the double sliding mechanism but so far it has worked. Believe me not all that I come up with works, hahaha! And yes I'm the queen of kitchen gadgets if anything I needed to reduce significantly due to lack of space. But, manage to cook great meals with what we are able to carry, and that's all that matters. Thanks for the well wishes.
I absolutely love small rigs and this is one of my favorites. Andres and Sherry really did an excellent job restoring and creating functional space. They are such a lovely couple and a joy to be around. Happy travels and hopefully I will see both of you down the road.

Hi Lisa, thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, we both tend to be a little OCD. In fact, since the video we have made even more improvements to our organizational system. Soon we will post a video about some of the changes so subscribe to our channel and you'll be able to see more of our madness, hehehe. The heater is a Dickinson Marine Fireplace they are made for boats and you can get a woodburning or gas like ours. This winter we have really taken advantage of it. And of course, we think about our doggies to us, they are our kids.
@Buenavidaroute I have a 1971 Westy named "Larry" and he's tiny!!! I am going to look into that heater! I live near Boston. Massachusetts! We love fall camping but...... you can never guarantee that it's going to be warm, we had snow ❄️ in October just 2 weeks after our big "vw transporterfest" I think there were about 60 of us that camped before the big event - if you're ever up this way look me up!!
Hi Lisa we are actually trying to plan a spring roadtrip through the southern states as my husband hasn’t been. And I always tell him “it’s a whole other country” LOL. We both love VW’s but found them just to be a little too small for us 2 and our 3 fur babies. This is a great video, and it is inspiring. I have a 1978 Dodge class C that I got from a customer for 50 bucks------- had to pay 375.00 to have it towed to my house....I got the motor to start and it sounds great...... but it still needs to be registered...... and it needs to be worked as far as the heat and A/C....the roof does NOT leak...... I need to get to work!!!!!!!! Thank you for the inspiration!!!!!

I can't believe that tiny Toyota engine could haul all of that. That said, a truck-based RV where the camper is built on a ladder frame pickup truck is appealing.
Right? She blows our minds all the time as well. She has taken us to places we would have never imagined and so many more to explore. But yes if you have a bigger truck (motor wise) putting a camper over it can be amazing specially if you also like off roading which La Chata can't do as she is sadly not 4 x4
The paint job or more like the cleaning and prepping before the paint job was one of the longest and most tedious change but oh so worth it at the end. We love how she shines now.

I have a 1990 winnebago warrior I completely tore apart to do a 100% remodel. Somewhere in that process I blew a head gasket. After sitting for a year I just replaced the head gaskets and she’s back alive. Now the rebuild continues and she can’t get done fast enough. Love your rig guys

Thanks Whitney one of the hardest things to figure out but if so worth it to be able to entertain and have guests over for a sleepover. It was important to us not to lose the fact that we could have people come visit while we traveled. We just put it to the test in our last travels that we had 2 friends visit from Costa Rica

Hola Dahlia they are up for sale all the time but all likely need some TLC. Some more than others yet, they are worth it as they are great reliable motors. Join the groups on social media and you’ll easily find one. Water damage is the worst but usually all is fixable with time and some $$$. Let us know if you get one we will be happy to impart whatever we have learned so far. Saludos y bendiciones.
HI DL they are always some for sell specially if you join one of the Toyota FB groups. In all likely hood they will all need some TLC but are great little rigs.
Hi Elanor. I don't believe we did because we weren't asked. La Chata usually gives us about 13-14 mpg which for a RV is pretty good actually. We typically don't go faster than 65 and of course, going up hill she is slow yet, she has gotten us to almost 14,000 feet in elevation in Colorado without a problem. And yes of course, going up hill and in the dead of summer she isn't the happiest of campers but, we give her breaks and she has always gotten us to our destination.
Cool I have a 1976 fiberglas bodied Toyota Hilux, camper, basically the first generation, mine just had to be treated like a tractor. Some torque. 2.2 liter original engine 4 speed transmission. It has a little of everything, yours is 70% bigger.

Hi Talisha. thank you so so much this made our day. We got old one for affordability but mostly because believe it or not older as with a lot of things were made better. But, if you can afford new just as a suggestion make sure it was built well. Do they research before you get stuck with a lemon. Most are fiberglass even all new ones. In fact, you would have to go even older to get aluminum. Maybe you should try to go to a Tiny Home Fest or other gathering where rigs are shown that way you get a better feel for what you would like best and we always recommend maybe renting one or a couple of different ones and take them on a trip then you will get a better sense of what works for you and your husband. We get about 13-14 mpg. And she is slow going uphill but on flat can easily do 65. Although typically we ride her at 55 mph for savings and to enjoy the view. She has taken us to almost 14K ft in elevation so I would say she does pretty well.
Well I don't know your living conditions so I'm not going to assume. But our pets get "THE WORLD" to explore! Each day they wake up to a new mountain, a new lake, a new river bed, a new beach to run, sniff and take in the sun. They also, get all sorts of nice people petting them at all the campgrounds and boondocking places. So, I beg to ask what is best to have them in a traditional house where they walk around the same neighborhood each day? Or the fact that they hike a new trail each day.
@@lucieduquette645 You should see other families that manage to have 5 healthy kids, dogs, cats, we have even seen chicken and goats on rigs. And you know what is even crazier is that they are all happy, healthy and so much more well rounded.

Hola Dahlia they are up for sale all the time but all likely need some TLC. Some more than others yet, they are worth it as they are great reliable motors. Join the groups on social media and you’ll easily find one. Water damage is the worst but usually all is fixable with time and some $$$. Let us know if you get one we will be happy to impart whatever we have learned so far. Saludos y bendiciones.

Hi Elanor. I don't believe we did because we weren't asked. La Chata usually gives us about 13-14 mpg which for a RV is pretty good actually. We typically don't go faster than 65 and of course, going up hill she is slow yet, she has gotten us to almost 14,000 feet in elevation in Colorado without a problem. And yes of course, going up hill and in the dead of summer she isn't the happiest of campers but, we give her breaks and she has always gotten us to our destination.

Cool I have a 1976 fiberglas bodied Toyota Hilux, camper, basically the first generation, mine just had to be treated like a tractor. Some torque. 2.2 liter original engine 4 speed transmission. It has a little of everything, yours is 70% bigger.

Hi Talisha. thank you so so much this made our day. We got old one for affordability but mostly because believe it or not older as with a lot of things were made better. But, if you can afford new just as a suggestion make sure it was built well. Do they research before you get stuck with a lemon. Most are fiberglass even all new ones. In fact, you would have to go even older to get aluminum. Maybe you should try to go to a Tiny Home Fest or other gathering where rigs are shown that way you get a better feel for what you would like best and we always recommend maybe renting one or a couple of different ones and take them on a trip then you will get a better sense of what works for you and your husband. We get about 13-14 mpg. And she is slow going uphill but on flat can easily do 65. Although typically we ride her at 55 mph for savings and to enjoy the view. She has taken us to almost 14K ft in elevation so I would say she does pretty well.

So cute ! I just bought a 2 door jeep I'm setting up to sleep when I camp but this would be so nice! How does it do on dirt roads or mountain road!?
It’s nice . We boondock in so many places with dirt roads.
It never ceases to amaze me that people insist not only in having pets but having them in such small spaces...
...And having three!
Well I don't know your living conditions so I'm not going to assume. But our pets get "THE WORLD" to explore! Each day they wake up to a new mountain, a new lake, a new river bed, a new beach to run, sniff and take in the sun. They also, get all sorts of nice people petting them at all the campgrounds and boondocking places. So, I beg to ask what is best to have them in a traditional house where they walk around the same neighborhood each day? Or the fact that they hike a new trail each day.
@@lucieduquette645 You should see other families that manage to have 5 healthy kids, dogs, cats, we have even seen chicken and goats on rigs. And you know what is even crazier is that they are all happy, healthy and so much more well rounded.
