    Couldn’t figure out for the life of me why my paint had a bunch of ridges on it when I was painting awhile back until you said you can’t leave it over night, I’ve been spray painting stuff for years and never new all these little details. Wonderful informative video

    professional tip: if you pre heat your parts BEFORE your first coat of paint, your paint will lay down evenly with a lot less chance to run.. also, the paint will flash dry quickly, allowing you to speed up your painting. I highly recommend using 2k glamour clear, it's a 2 part automotive clear that comes in a aerosol can, $20.00 at you automotive paint supply store. nice video.

    I have never even heard of a can exploding in "oiling rorter" 13:15 I couldn't resist!!! :-) I am sooooo happy that you did this vid, I have seen many bit and pieces of how things kinda went along, but to have it all in one vid is just great!!! The results you have from this work really makes the effort worth it, I love the extra highlights on your bike!!!

      +Freespiritphil Thanks! I'm better at writing than filming. Here, I wrote the whole transcript, read it, then placed appropriate clips and photos where it made sense. I generally prefer instructions in article form rather than video, but that's me.

    Wow! I've been waiting for eons for this video. Well worth the wait! Great job on the engine and the video. Thanks for putting this out there.
    Now, you said that I could leave the paint in the boiling water right? No wait...gotta run to my kitchen! Ahhh!!!

      +SoopaBee I thought the Soopawife didn't let you play with dangerous things, like paint cans?

    I've painted engines i.e. CBX1000, XS1100, Triumph T120 cylinder block (Bonnie engines run really hot) and others all air-cooled engines so run away hotter than water cooled with ordinary paints and hadn't any problems. Mainly because high-temperature paints were not available to me and when they were colours not available. For long enough the only high temp paint available was black or red matt finishes and these were for exhausts.

    I was hoping you would go over this. I saw and I think you made mention of it in one of your build videos. Eventually I will need to do the CRF.

    • @AdventuresinRealLife
      @AdventuresinRealLife  9 років тому +3

      +azdesertdog Yep, I did this before I had any clue what I was doing. 9 hours of footage later.....and me making a whole ton of mistakes...so this one went on the backburner until I figured out how to salvage it. And so it became me reading an essay over sped up footage of doing things. I feel pretty good about it.
      Paint the CRF metallic red, with blue sparkly bits!

      Nice job. You'd never know it was salvaged. Going in my favorites for future reference.

    hey plz tell me how xan i paint the spokes of the wheel .. just spokes .. and not the rim

    • @AdventuresinRealLife
      @AdventuresinRealLife  9 років тому

      +Prashant Rawat Spoke skins are what most people go with. But if you really want to paint them, then you're really going to need to remove them from the hub. Sand them by hand and make sure they are clean, then paint them just like anything else. Use engine paint, since the brake dust is corrosive, and they're easy to put in the oven. When putting them back in, it's kind of complicated, as you'll need to true the wheel, but it isn't the worst thing.
      Technically it is possible to paint them without removing them, but you'd need a hell of a lot of tape. And you couldn't use engine paint since you wouldn't be able to cure it.
      Really painting is the same for anything on the bike. Isolate whatever components you wish to paint, with either tape or by removing them. Sand and clean them to ensure a good surface for paint adhesion. Prime a few times, paint a few times, seal a few times, then put everything back.

    Hi, really liked your video, I'm looking to restore my bike (engine repaint too) however I don't have access to some of the amazing tools I've seen like oven baking the whole frame. What type of paint would you recommend on the engine fins that wouldn't cause overheating? And which sort of compressor did you use for the sand blasting part?

      Only the Engine/High Temp paint needs this, as it is a semipolymeric ceramic that cures at oven temp.

      All right, but of a slump there but I think I've righted myself. Otherwise things pretty good, been on the bike a lot lately, the weather has been unseasonably warm.
      As far as this video goes, I know you know a lot more about this than I do. I hope that I did a decent job explaining it.
      Hopefully it will cut into the endless questions I get about why my engine is the wrong color.

I haven't rode at all I mover and within 6months got engaged and wedding is next Saturday. and as far as Kawasaki's go I've been on backorder for engine parts for 2months. keep up the good videos

    • @AdventuresinRealLife
      @AdventuresinRealLife  9 років тому

      +Gunfighter Motovlogs It did work out very well, though I did run into a number of kinks, pretty much any 'advice' I came up with was something I messed up and had to sort out.

    • @GunfighterR6
      @GunfighterR6 9 років тому +1

      The biggest issue I run into is paint runs and puddling around bends and dips. The only thing that works for me is to increase distance and make quick passes so it doesn't accumulate too much.

    I domt like how you did the voice over and tried to sound real smart haha. It's youtube.. no need hahaha. And baking them in an oven can harm you if you cool food it in afterwords

    • @AdventuresinRealLife
      @AdventuresinRealLife  9 років тому +2

      +Coon Hunting I did the voiceover to keep things concise and clear. At the time of recording, I was very new to filming and had no clue what I was doing when it came to explaining things. So voiceover. As far as the oven thing goes, I didn't know about it at the time. I don't imagine it could be much harm. Maybe a bit of cancer....maybe, but that's inevitable if you live long enough. To be honest I was more concerned with the fumes stripping the oven paint.

    • @Chevy-tc9sf
      @Chevy-tc9sf 9 років тому

      My grandmother recently passed away because of cancer and she left not even a month after she found out she had it

    • @AdventuresinRealLife
      @AdventuresinRealLife  9 років тому

      +Coon Hunting Yeah, that'll happen sometimes. That disease can really jump out of nowhere, as so many types don't show symptoms until they're fairly advanced.
      We all die, it's all right. I only meant to say that worrying about exposure to every minor carcinogen isn't worth it.
