Thanks for being so open in this video. That’s a really good insight about having the pace on your watch - helpful if you’re having a good day, but a real weight on your shoulders if things get tough. Your grit and determination in putting the negative thoughts aside is amazing!
I've just watched this, while walking my 2 mile loop with my little one ( autism and doesn't sleep 😆) well done.. huge PB and so much closer to the goal you deserve 👍🏻
Congrats on your huge PB Kelly. I have been watching your progress from the very beginning. I have run two road marathons but not since the pandemic and you have inspired me to get back on the marathon journey. Good luck in Valencia.
What I like about this video is how much your passion for running positivity & focus & hunger to improve is really impressive & inspiring, awesome stuff Kelly, keep up the good work 🙏👊🏼🏃🏽♂️👣✅🌲👀🥳
Well done on your massive PB! You’ll take the experience and comeback even stronger. I got a PB at AMS too! Nearly 40 min. 03 : 12 : 03! I had a good training block and in general tried hard at all aspects and it came together. Probably the biggest thing I think that worked for me was easy runs REALLY EASY including all my longest runs, hard runs with TOTAL EFFORT. I’ve got Paris in spring…and typically the one year I do get into London on the ballot! So 2 marathons in 3 weeks (London will have to be on feel, primarily for fun).
Really glad to hear you enjoyed the training Kelly 😊 Thought you had an amazing block, brilliant to see someone putting in the hard work seeing big gains in fitness and PBs !! Congratulations and all the best with Valencia👏👏👏
It's outstanding that you came out of the marathon training block wanting more, I'd say that's a sign for you to keep going with that distance until you get where you want then look at alternative distances 😊 I'm starting with Matt next week and I am super excited to see my progress over time 😁
Really enjoyed this series! Hearing what you had to come through was very inspirational and congratulations on a huge PB. I'm a complete beginner and hoping to run my first marathon next year looking at maybe Edinburgh in the spring
Thank you so much Ash. So glad to hear you enjoyed the series ☺️ how exciting the first marathon! Edinburgh is one I definitely would love to do one day.
Ah loved ur debrief Kelly - Iv just done beachy head marathon and I also can’t stop eating 😅 congratulations again hun - so Valencia I - think u should just go for it - I mean pretend ur not but then secretly go for it ! I’m hoping to do my first ultra next spring - Jurassic Coast - only one part of it, the 1st day so 58k - 10 miles more than the marathon …… I can’t wait to start my next training block after Xmas - this side of Xmas I’m concentrating on my 10k time Iv got a Santa run in the pipeline so I’m working on that for the next 6/7 weeks - looking forward to ur next vlog ❤
Great recap Kelly! You can still hear that you’re bunged up. Valencia is a great marathon - my first sub 4! ❤️ I’ve got New York next week!! The aim is to get the 6 majors. Just signed up for Chicago next year. That will be 4 stars done! Enjoy the rest, get better and go go go in Valencia xxxx
Thank you so much Christina! It’s certainly hung around this thing. But I guess running a marathon run down is never going to improve things. So excited for you for New York! Hope you have an amazing race and experience! Chicago will also be amazing. 4 of the 6… you’re flying! Xxx
Well done Kelly , an honest recap. You achieved a brilliant PB 😃 and I am sure you will go quicker again when you get to a start line 100% fit. Looking forward to the Valencia build up from you and Matt 😀
I can relate to so many comments you made so I appreciate how open you were. My first marathon was in Chicago a couple weeks ago. I was staying on target for the first 18 miles. I “talked” myself into needing to walk because it was too hard. I think my legs were willing but my mind was tired. Once I did it it was easier to do it again. The message I took home was that I was physically ready but not mentally ready. I’m not sure how to train for that. It was a beautiful day however and I’m so glad I finished. I’m making plans to do Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth Minnesota in June. I’m going to do more miles and a few more loooonnngg runs as mental conditioning and hope I can stay more on target through the whole thing.
Thank you! Being completely honest with you Aimee, I would of totally pissed my pants too. Coughing and running just no. And aggressive trampolining 😂😂
Whether or not you decide to go for it again in Valencia, it's been an incredible year and you've made amazing progress, it's important to remember that. Good luck... Vamos! 🚀🏃♀🏅
Your progression towards Preston for Boston is amazing. Didn't it feel great to just go on how you felt? for Valencia, throw out all of your electronics, even during the build towards the race. Also, throw out a training plan and just go out on a run. For example: today I feel like doing a long run, today will be a hill training and so forth. Plus go out and kill it in Valencia! My next race is a 1/2 marathon in Vegas in Feb. The Rock and Roll series! You and Matt should come and join me. You run at midnight down the Vegas Strip! Slainte!
Thank you! You know, would absolutely love to do that race one day! 🔥 I have to say the going back to basic basics and dropping all tech is actually appealing, but I don’t think I could strip it back that much. Maybe one day that would be a good challenge for a block 😄
You feel so dedicated to your running preparation ªnd thats great Kelly and I really hope for you that you reach your goals in spite your diabetes type 1. not to forget. Congrats the BP. Inga DK.
doing at least some runs without looking at your HR is a good idea. You never know when it won't be available. I did a 1/2M this last Sunday and for some reason either my chest strap didn't sync to my watch and I didn't notice, or it was off. My HR was reporting 100-110 when I knew it was closer to 130. After 5k it finally reported correctly (~130).
The problem with running to feel on a marathon is you will ALWAYS feel amazing for the first 10k or so. You’re the fittest you ever are and are well tapered so you should never feel better in that first 10k. You just cannot run to feel at the beginning as it’s too misleading.
A 40+ minute PB is fantastic. Under 4 in Valencia? Maybe. Looking at the course it seems to take place in a relatively small area of the city - up/down streets. Very flat! I think flat/flat is overrated.. I like flat/noticeable incline up-down/flat etc. *horses for courses* whatever. I had a very good Bath Half experience. 92minutes, very comfortable with the necessary effort for the last couple of miles. 3/100ish in age category and (yes I'm one of those who look at this after a good race...) a big 83% on my *age graded %* yep *sad old bloke* Next? The Stickler *Dorset's 3 Peaks Challenge* 10 mile off road palaver - I'm treating it as a training run. Then the day before your Valencia run I have the delights of Salisbury Plain marathon - reasonable for an off roader: army hard tracks/roads and some rutted stuff. Hills enough hopefully 4 and a half hours. Got my gfa👍 confirmation emails from London Marathon 2023 and Bath Half 2023 on the same day.
You took off too quick , coughing and all that was a result of you being out of your comfort zone , if you took of at 4hr pace and stayed within yourself you prob would have went sub 4 , if I can give you a little advice after every marathon you run you say your sick not feeling well etc that’s a no no , just put your hands up you paced it wrong end of we all have been there , well done on great run super improvement

Great video. Good luck in Valencia. The Dublin Marathon for me this coming Sunday.
Thank you! Huge good luck for Dublin! Hope you have a great race ❤️
I've just watched this, while walking my 2 mile loop with my little one ( autism and doesn't sleep 😆) well done.. huge PB and so much closer to the goal you deserve 👍🏻
Both yours and Matts, positivity and honesty motivates me to get out of the door when I really don’t feel like it
Thank you so much Mark! Hope your running is going well ☺️

Thank you so much Kathy! Love to hear you’ve been here ☺️ excited for you getting back to the marathon! It’s a journey, it’s worth it ❤️

Travelling is always going to be hard for a marathon. Congratulations on the PB! 🎉
Thank you Gary! Yes, you’re right I definitely thinking travelling can impact racing sometimes.

Great video as ever Kelly , going for hopefully a sub 3 in Valencia , and spring marathon is Boston in April.
Ah amazing! Huge good luck for Valencia, maybe bump into you out there! 🔥 Boston will be absolutely incredible 😍
