    Green shiso grows wild here in southern Missouri, but I read somewhere that it is not as good as the domestic variety. Do you have any information of different types of green shiso? I need to go and harvest some of the wild and try it, but I do not have a source for some of the domestic kind for comparison.

    Hey how do you pick the leaves for eating, I mean do you just pick the leaves off the branch or should I cut off the stem with leaves on it, which leaves to my second question, how do you prune it ?

    • @noirberries

      And is smaller/younger leaf better for eating?

    • @therealm4944
      @therealm4944 4 роки тому

      You just eat the leaves. Shiso is predominantly used in Japanese cuisine. We eat it with rice. You can shred the raw leaf and put it on rice, or use it like a lettuce wrap and put rice and meat in it. *like korean bbq style lettuce wraps* you can also cook it if you wish. Its common to eat nigiri sushi with green shiso leaf. And you want it to grow to size, dont eat them when they are small. Check out recipies on google for more ways to enjoy them : )

    In Korean we call it Kkaetnip. Haha it's kind of hard to romanize the spelling, but it's definitely my favorite! I never really liked it until I had a tuna gimbap once and they had it inside. It went perfectly with the tuna and rice. Yum!

    • @xPorsum
      @xPorsum 4 роки тому +1

      All plants will flower, but in cases like these plants, or even with plants like basil or cilantro, you want to pinch off the flowers so that the leaves have more flavor. I think if you let the plants go to seed, they die out faster. But that is the only way to save seeds for next season, so you should let them flower towards the end of the season.
