Godzilla is the first name of the most famous French band: Gojira. This is the second demo of the band formed in 1996. Gojira is the original Japanese Toho Studios name for what was later misinterpreted by the American market as "Godzilla". The band were initially named "Godzilla" until they had to change their name due to copyright reasons.
Line-up:
Mario Duplantier: Drums
Christian Andreu: Guitars
Joe Duplantier: Guitars, Vocals
Alexandre Cornillon: Bass

I wish this was on Spotify so bad
If only.
It’s not official audio that’s why it’s not
That’s why I have UA-cam music 😎
Why, you have it here :)
The fact that they recorded this when they were only in their late teenage years is really impressive
Death + Morbid Angel
Spot on 👍
More like Morbid Angel + Deicide
Vitek (former drummer of Decapitated) was around 15 when they were recording Winds of Creation. I think the entire band was in their teens during that period. Anyone that is impressed by Mario’s drumming skills at his age of 16, would be blown away listening to Vitek’s drumming. If he hadn’t passed away at such an early age he’d easily be one of the top 10 best metal drummers right now.
Winds of Creation is one of my top favorite DM albums. Vitek will always be missed.🤘
@@sethputnamsghost6538 Same here, I fucking love that album. Decapitated's best work. RIP Vitek!
mario got a lot better than him over the years though i must admit, that is impressive though
the band started when he was 11
You should’ve heard my garage tapes from when I was 4, I mopped the floor with them both. Too bad they got lost in the fire and my arms fell off😞
Holy shit Mario was only 15-16

Reminds me of sepultura max and igor were only 14-15 when they started recording they're music, absolutely nuts when you listen to what they were producing.
@@johnhoggan1053 alexi laiho from children of bodom was also 15 or so when they wrote 'something wild'
They need to re-record and re release their Godzilla stuff.
if they take a long ass break from touring joe probably could produce those vocals again
@@sambt123like what they did with Inferno. He doesn’t need a break his voice is still good
No, he sounds strung out on live recordings.@@jinsakai9729
@@jinsakai9729his voice is arguably better now . he’s the Death metal James Hetfield, insane rhythm guitarist + Vocals age like fine wine
One of the greatest possible horrors is hearing an OSDM record with modern production. No.
I will never understand how they produced these vocals
Double tracking low and high growl at the same time
it's like guitars, the more you add, the more the track feels well produced. This is why Deathcore have been so popular the past 15 years (more so than death metal among the younger generations), abusing these techniques to achieve great production quality and very powerful vocals that can't really be reproduced on stage without backing vocals, unless you recruit 4 other vocalists in your band. Can't say I hate it though. Live and studio are 2 separate things worth enjoying for different reasons. Besides, some deathcore vocalists are actually insane on stage.

Holy shit.
The intro is from The Exorcist. For those not familiar...
Thanks, was wondering
Absolutely am familiar Haha
Still haunts me to this day anytime I hear samples from that movie being used anywhere.
the exootcist by possessed
The beginning of Possessed scares the shit out of me
You probably already know, but it's from the exorcist

the exorcist isn’t scary
@@sambt123 that's what she said
definitely the best finale song of all time
How did they get self-recorded music to sound so clear in 1996??
80% of the clarity comes from playing super-tight which they were already capable. Saw them live at the time and it was spectacular how great they sounded even with crappy amps and guitars, even compared to more "seasoned" bands. They were already super impressive so it's not a surprise they got this far.
This is pretty average death metal production for the time I'd say
We had lottle more than potatoes with cotton strings attached if you believe it. Up hill both ways and shit.
@@evergreen3337but you dont expect this for a Demo
@@pedrohenriqueviana5596 You'd be surprised, death metal demos tend to be pretty tight. For example, Cryptopsy's demo back in '93 is almost clearer than the album after it. Sounds about on par with this Godzilla demo too.
Deberian de hacer un remaster de este ep cambiando el nombre al que ya conocemos asi mucha mas gente podra escucharlo porque es muy bueno para que pase desapercibido
12:13 really reminds me of Darkside's, drummer of the band Mgła, cymbal work. Pretty cool.
so glad I found out these demos exist. heavy as fk. kinda reminds me a bit of the band Mithras
Mithras rings a bell but can’t put my finger on it
Okay I looked em up. I see what you mean! Definitely not heard them before thanks
Lol love how there death and morbid angel influence really show in this album 🤘🏼

put on 1.5x speed for modern gojira

this goes so hard bro
mandragore goes real hard
It's unbelievable that the band has never ever made an acoustic recording again.
Holy sh... That's something that had to be done in Fortitude, not the stupid rock with terrible growls they do these days.

Saturate too!
The way of all flesh has no skippings bro

Gojira is not "heavy metal" and they have never been.
People really should know the definitions of musical labels. The genre is called metal. Heavy metal music was on a specific period, although there are few bands that still try that formula these days.
Or what? Is brutal death metal, stoner metal and progressive symphonic power metal the same calling them "heavy metal"?
Educate yourself.
I hope they bring back their old sounds without losing their progressive tendencies
Yeah. They're now a commercial stadium-metal band. But not in the way of Metallica with the black album, or Megadeth with Symphony Of Destruction. In the very wrong way...
BRUTAL!!! I FKNG LOVE IT
Anyone know of songs or bands that have this feel? I’ve listened to everything Gojira has ever made. And a lot of similar death and prog metal bands but this just has a different feel
I know it’s not THAT similar but this kind of reminds of the summoning redemption album from morbid angel because of the mid-range pace and vocals. Also possibly the negation album from decapitated but that has way faster double bass and blast beats
@@adino20 I did check those out. Solid picks my friend.
@@Manic_Mitch.official Honestly, I'm surprised at the quality of 90's death metal since I looked more into it. The riffs on display here are honestly so heavy and groovy that they might be hard to top but check out this playlist and maybe you'll find some more to like ua-cam.com/video/whLAtGGCHx0/v-deo.html

Maybe Death too

Is it me or is this sh1t low-key better than Morbid Angel and the debut Gojira album?
It’s better than morbid angle 100% also the mixing is faking awesome
idk terra incognita goes blisteringly hard, and no it’s not better than morbid angel but it’s solid
Not Terra, but the opening track on this is probably the best song
Anyone got best song recommendations for Gojira?
@@Oi325 being honest their first 5 albums are ridiculous with no misses, magma is a good album with a few skips, fortitude has a few good songs but i’m not a big fan, every other album is insane though, flying whales is my favorite metal song of all time along with the art of dying, but you’ll find hidden treasure in each of their albums, dive into them, it’s worth it, they’re amazing
