I have felt a real sense of loss over the death of Doug. His channel was by far the best of the anti Scientology community. What made it the best was his authenticity.. He taught me much about Scientology and the nature of cults, but mostly I enjoyed watching his live streams, where you could literally watch as a man searched for the meaning of our world.

HG was able to remove the mask and be his authentic self with Doug, being crystal clear about his intentions as a narcissistic psychopath, in a way that he couldn't with people he personally knows in everyday life. Despite that, Doug respected and admired HG, and considered him a friend.
So to anyone who thinks this reaction from HG is cold, you must understand that this may be the most genuinely positive way HG is capable of feeling about another human being, who trusted HG and accepted him for the way he is. This is his version of a brotherly friendship, and I'm sure that whenever reminded of Doug, he'll think well of him. We'll miss you Doug, you're free now. 🕊

Thank you, HG, for doing this in Doug's memory. Most of us are rather drowning in sorrow, so maybe it's a good thing you aren't. No way could I give a eulogy for him without falling apart quite a bit.
He looked up to you, you know. I think he *needed* you, rather deeply. You seemed to be able to provide Doug a real balance in his life that he *never* once had from his family. You offered logic and sane thinking, which helps tremendously in spotlighting errors in one's thinking processes. Ex-Scientologists definitely need that. Hell, most of us could use a big dose of that on occasion. I noticed that, after he began talking with you, he seemed calmer, more focused, more sure of himself. So, thank you for helping him...Big Bro. Ya done good. 👍

AG has trouble keeping his schadenfreude at bay; his over-arching vanity prompts him to misinterpret interactions, whereupon he goes for blood with unmitigated glee.
The smallest perceived slight eats at his ego.
One’s valid and logical correction to his making a logical fallacy; receives a sophomoric slam-
This action seemingly lends him reason enough for creating a straw-man, re-framing one’s truth, and, sadly, engaging in a jocular retort.
AG’s behavior by displaying his lack of humility … regarding a somewhat minor correction; whether it be his original misinterpretation…or possessing a level of hubris, which infuriates him when exposed - reveals that if the specter of his employing a logical fallacy (or cognitive bias) is called-out, he cannot handle the debate as a gentleman.
And, therefore, will lash-out-as said-with his trademark schadenfreude.

Admirable HG that you tell the truth about how this impacts you, I hope people hear it & take it onboard & don’t try to convince themselves otherwise. This is how narcissists think, your death is an inconvenience to them. Remember that when they are manipulating you or when you say you can’t cut them off. I liked Doug, he came across as a nice guy but clearly troubled by his own admission, he didn’t deserve to die so young, it’s very sad. My opinion regarding all these interviews with Doug was that he constantly flattered HG, it was not intentional & it was definitely not in a kiss ass way, not at all. But his manner was always complimentary to HG & always grateful & in my opinion that’s why it looked like there was something between them. Doug just naturally without trying responded to HG in a way that worked for HG.

Thank you for this comment! There is an important piece of wisdom here -a warm, kind, empathic person can put soooooo much into the relation, that the unaware outsiders may be unable to figure out that one of the two people they observe is a cold-hearted, dark and calculated narcissist. Paradoxically, in a daily life context, it can be another factor, making everything difficult - since the outsiders may see nothing but a lovely couple interacting, or a great duet of best friends, while in reality.... there is one-sided flux of human love vs. dark hole of narcissism.
Doug, as you pointed out, gave SO much of kindness, warmth, respect, care, that he amazing "created" the atmosphere of the talk, imitating the real connection.
Maybe we should learn something from this lesson.... or at least ask ourselves, to what degree our kindness and love protects the false image/mask of sanity/ persona of the narcissist?
(Of course his interaction with HG was not a regular interaction, Doug knew who he was dealing with, and deliberately chose to treat HG with natural kindness. And I appreciate HG talked to him in a kind way.)

Lovely tribute & excellent teaching about the effects of losing someone in your life. While you may not feel sadness & grief as others with empathy might, this video was still kind, respectful & beautifully done. I say that because it's in contrast to other videos I've seen about his passing, even by those with empathy, which is not only ironic, but shows how truly evolved you are as The Ultra. Thank-you H.G. I wonder who really was in control of this relationship? I suspect he didn't die of smoking, even if it was the instrument of his death. People die because the soul decides to leave this plane. He was, in effect, finished with you. A different understanding of people with your condition is going to gradually emerge in the public consciousness.

This is why when you realize and become aware that you are in a toxic environment you need to remove yourself from that environment ASAP! Otherwise being in that environment will create CPTSD and effect your life psychologically which will effect your health physiologically. 😥

It’s interesting for you to explain to us that you don’t feel sad about things like that, it’s quite the insight. And your eulogy for him was certainly excellent and I commented in that video about Andrew Gold did not do a eulogy at all. In fact I was disgusted by it. I’m glad you brought this up that he speculated that he killed himself and then went on to say Doug pissed him off in the past. I was like how inappropriate to go there so fast. I’m starting to think Andrew Gold is a bit of an asshole. I am very grateful that he generously allowed you to use his private life issues to explain how narcissism works. Your talks were my absolutely favourite, and I perceive him as irreplaceable.
Thanks HG for honest sharing your "feelings" (or rather thoughts) about his passing. My self-aware Upper-Mid-Range ex boyfriend shared almost identical "feelings" with me, when his "best friend" died. Looks like it's another case of universal narcissistic reaction. It's a very, very weird thing to witness for a non-narc.
It's painful, too, to know someone like Dough was just an asset. It's creepy to even think about him in this way.So, I won't say HG, that your eulogy of Doug is beautiful or something. It can't be, since you had no warm feelings for him and empathy. Ugh. But yeah.... my ex boyfriend reacted to his "best friend"s death with: "Why should I be upset because of it? Show must go on".
