I love the jumping up and down with happiness once it is done! That was awesome! I also love how the cows seemed to be watching and happy for you at the end! LOL! Love this. Thank you for sharing!
Love the look of the port door, looks so much easier than the zip and roll method! Do you like it? We added a shade-sail for temperature management in the summer. It still gets warm, but is more bearable without direct sunlight hitting you.
@chrisdevereux yes loving the port door. It s way easier to get in and out. And the dog loves it too. I will add a screen door (one with a magnetic center in the summer months to keep the bugs out). We have a sunsail as well. It does help. I have also added a window that opens. That keeps the ventilation for the summer as well. I see they now have a wood stove. But that is only for the M model. I think it might be easy to add a tiny wood stove with a few personal modifications to the S model.
I have a window but never got around to fitting it, would you recommend? A stove would be lovely but I fear it would take up a lot of space, what with having to be certain distance from the dome. I wonder if that's why they haven't released one for the S 🤔
Chris I am at present testing the DOME S which I built around a month ago. I have identified two problems, and I wonder if you or any other reader has had a similar experience. The first problem is with condensation. I have tried leaving window and door open and also installing a crystal based humidifier to no avail. I could install a mains driven humidifier, but it would be an expensive addition due to the length of underground cable required. The second problem is with ingress of water at ground level (possibly a small leak on the roof also, but hard to detect). Whilst there is not a lot of water from the ground level there is a major amount from the condensation, and before I install the ground sheet I want the floor to be dry as it is on decking. I have considered silicone sealing at the ground level. Any input would be appreciated.
@@chrisdevereux Thank you. It looks pretty good and I watched your later video pressure washing it. I think that it is quite innovative as it does away with special connectors and a framework to support the panes. An interesting video, thank you.
@@richardamullens Its a trade off, the overlapped panels dont fully seal so they can collect dust and moisture which will encourage algae. If you dont plan to dismantle the dome you could cut strips from clear polycarb to fill the voids between panels. The strips will only need to be as wide as the overlap, maybe 12-15mm so you`d get a lot out of a sheet. If you plan to dismantle the dome you will have a nightmare figuring where the strips went when you reassemble it. The door design is functional but does fall short of expectations considering the price of the dome.
@@JohnGuest45 Thank you. The deficiencies only become apparent after a while. A bit like my designs ! Perhaps a dilute solution of Sodium Metabisulphite or Chlorine or Hydrogen Peroxide would clear away the algae, but it would be a big and awkward job probably.
@@richardamullens Its par for the course with any dome, they all have lots of nooks and crannies. I would avoid anything that could damage the surface of the polycarb as algae loves rough surfaces. It will come back quicker and be more difficult to shift, an ever diminishing circle ;)
Hi Paul, we built it over the course of 2 days and I'd say it took about 8 hours in total if you have 2 people. The time consuming bit for us was the last couple of rows at the top which needed the step ladder. It's not complicated if you can follow the instructions ok, a bit like Lego, make sure you pay attention to the overlapping and which panel sides line up! Good luck with your build and let us know how it goes!

Hey Chris! First, thank you for sharing this video! Do you have an idea if a portable AC unit could be used inside the dome? I guess those need an air return hose to outside. Thank you in advance!
Hi Eric, thanks! Pleased you like the video. I don't see why you couldn't use an AC unit, it would work well for those days when the sun heats the dome a little too much. The return hose would have to exit via the flexible door I guess but that shouldn't be a problem. There are also accessories like opening window panels and a huge sun shade available to help keep it cool. I'll post a video of the sun shade soon.
Hi, I will follow this development and production company but I wonder about this issue of cleaning… could a product like RainX help in this matter ? Ofcourse I don’t know if it is effective against ‘building dirt’, what the best frequency of application is, and last but not least… is it save to apply on this dome material ? Good video and informative…
Hi Chris. Great video. How have you been finding your dome through the seasons? Are you in Scotland? Does it smell plasticky? Have you ever spent a night in it? Thanks.
Hey, thanks! It's a good question, and 1 that I hope to answer in an upcoming video, but briefly we're still really pleased and have started using it again properly in the last few weeks. We find that it really extends the season for being outside in the evenings. Weather wise no issues and it does get pretty wild here in Southern Scotland. We haven't spent a night in it yet, but were just talking about that recently - In the summer I think it would be comparable to glamping, probably a bit warmer than a tent, but I'd wear an eye-mask to block the early sunrise and use some privacy curtains!! No plastic smell at all.
Hi Orlaith, we didn't screw ours down to the patio but used different feet/brackets which Hypedome agreed to supply. This allowed us to place heavy planters on top of the feet to weigh it down.
Wow I absolutely love it! I've just ordered one myself. Can you tell me how hot it is inside on a summers day? Is it rendered unusable on very hot days or does the door keep it cool. Many thanks! Looks amazing!
Hi Gemma, thanks for the kind comments and it's great that yours is on the way, I'm sure you'll love it! It can get toasty on a hot sunny day, but we find that on those kind of days we will want to sit outside anyway. The door (and the forthcoming windows) will certainly help, and the big plus is that it stays warm into the evenings so you can stay outside for longer. Let me know what you think when you get it!
@Suzie Pepperell Not yet! I'm having building work done at the back of the house and dont want to risk dirt/breakages! It should be up in 10 days or so builers depending! Xx
That's correct, each planter is about 50-60KGs and they''re sat on top of "feet" which are attached to the dome. It hasn't moved anywhere and we had the full force of storm Arwen last November.
I won't lie, it was a pain - Mainly because our dome wasn't 100% circular at the base. I would say, build the door frame completely and line it up to see how it aligns with the panels. If the panels are straight you won't have too many issues, but don't be afraid to tug and pull it about to make it fit. I had to drill a couple of new holes in some panels. The self-tapping screws work well mostly, but in places where the aluminium frame is double thickness (where the pieces join together), I had to pre-drill some of the holes in the frame.
@@chrisdevereux Ha Many thanks for your generosity in replying! I think we may have over thought it - but all done now. For example, the volume should be just a shade under 18m3. the stated 12m3 would be correct for a perfectly smooth 1.8m radius hemisphere.
Hi! Is it good for stargazing? This is the main reason i want one. To,let me look at the stars of a night. Do the panel joints obscure your view of the night sky? Does it get dirty easily or stained from rain water?
Hi! Great question! The dome obviously keeps you warmer and more comfortable while star watching, and provided there are no light sources inside (even the smallest watch light would reflect on the structure) then it does give a good view. You don't quite get that 360 degrees view or the feeling of being connected to the vastness of space however. The panel joins are relatively small and not too noticeable once your gaze is focused on the sky, but it will need an occasional wash to keep it clear.
Hi Malcolm, just soap and water with a damp cloth works well, the only difficulty is reaching the top panels - You just need a step-ladder placed in the doorway. Having said that, ours doesn't get that dirty and gets washed by the rain pretty often!

How do you secure the planters to the dome and where can you buy the fittings.

Those coloured stickers you see on the panels tell you where to put them, there's an instruction manual, so it's pretty straight forward 👍🏻
