Great video!I am always interested in this zipper door. How do it fixed to the door frame on both sides? double-sided tape or screw, the double-sided tape, will it fall off after a long time?
Hi, it became clear that there are 2 different sizes that were produced, they will either be 3mm or 4mm. Amazon links are in the description of my first Hypedome video.
Love our dome too!! Interested in your idea about decking tiles. Our dome is on a decking base but we still get water ingress at 2/3 points. I see that Hypedome now do a plywood flooring pack to retrofit .. but it seems expensive. I am interested in your idea … but where does the water ingress go ? Pools under your tiles? I would be interested in your thoughts. Thank you for your thoughtful presentations
Hi Julie, with the decking tiles we have, any water just runs underneath them, so your feet stay dry but we've found we get a few bugs living under the tiles! I like the look of the Hypedome deck base but not sure how it would fit to onto our (rather lumpy) sandstone patio and as it comes with a "ground membrane" I'm guessing they also had to deal with the bugs. If I was building again, I might have put down a foam base first on which to stand the dome, which would have sealed up all the little gaps around the bottom.
@@julimt7 I think the water would just run under the membrane and I'd be worried it would never dry out which could cause rot problems. It might help with the spiders if you could find a way to attach it to the inside of the dome around the edges. To be honest, it's not been so much of a problem for us, so I've not tried it! Maybe the subject of another video :)
Chris Devereux Yes please!!! Lots of tweaks for people to share! I’ve just ordered a sample tile … and will think about our situation some more. Thanks again
Interesting question...Not that I've noticed, there's maybe a bit of echo in an empty dome but not once you add some furniture. The most interesting feature is when playing music from a speaker placed near to the outside of the dome, the sound seems to come from all angles. It creates quite a cool surround sound effect!
It looks very cozy! What size dome is it you have? I see that they are being sold in three sizes: Mini, S and M, but it's a bit difficult to see from the pictures on the web page how spacious they are.
@@chrisdevereux By the way, can I ask you if you are happy with the size? If you would have bought it today, would you buy the same size or a different one?
@@kristoferkrus Yes very happy. It fits the space we have and is not so big that it makes it too difficult to build or keep clean. Obviously if you want to hold big dinner parties etc, then the bigger the better 😉
I just had a brainwave!..why not just dig a thin shallow trench all around the outside to stop the rain coming in at the bottom?..would save all that hassle with tiles? - :)
I've been through about 3 in the last 10 years, different models. The one in the video broke so I'm currently using the Ecowitt WS68 which seems reliable so far and is modular if you want to add other sensors - I like it!
Finally someone with worse weather than I have in New Jersey, US (so sorry). I am afraid of wind and this structure seems better than any polycarbonate greenhouses because of the shape. What size do you have? And how does the door with zipper perform? I will use your link as i will likely order. Oh i see you have the S size which is what I will buy, but how about the door? Any issues? Thank you!
Hi, the one you see in the video is the 'S' (although when we got ours there was no other option!). No issues with the wind, we placed the door facing our house and away from the prevailing wind - the door is pretty strong, and I couldn't think of another solution other than a zipper but it's sometimes a pain when you have your hands full! Thanks for your support and comments!
@@chrisdevereux thank you! Either you and your partner are exceptionally tall, or the final top panels are not too difficult to assemble. …i just watched your assembly video and your ladders don’t seem super tall.

Hi. I love your dome and what you have done with it. I have recently bought one. I just wondered whether you have any major issues with condensation in the winter? I seem to be getting lots of drips on my furniture to the point where I have had to cover them with plastic sheeting at the moment.
Hey Brian, yeah we get them all and the spiders love the folds of our soft chairs, you do have to evict them and clean if you've not used it for a while. I put this down to not having a proper seal around the bottom edge of the dome and also building it on paving stones. If I were to do it again, I'd build it on top of some kind of foam mat base. Still not sure how I'd stop the occasional frog coming under the door though!
Hi Chris, Love the Video and have actually purchased a Hypedome but have not put up yet, so this video will definitely help. A question I have, is did you make the long anchoring plates under your planters or did you purchase them from somewhere?
Thanks for the kind comments! We got the long anchoring plates from Hypedome themselves. I mentioned to them that we were installing on a patio and they were able to supply them. They are essentially the same as the ones for anchoring on a wooden deck except that they protrude outside of the dome and have longer "feet". Hope that helps, good luck with the build!
Hi, thanks for the great videos. I noticed in one of your comments you said if you could build the dome again, you would put it on a foam base. Do you mean just around the perimeter or the entire floor? thanks.
Thanks! I think I would have it across the entire floor because it would have helped level the small lumps and bumps in my patio stones and also stopped any water/insects.
@@chrisdevereux Thanks Chris! One last and slightly odd question if i may, The panels are have a UV coating, do you find that provides good sun protection for you while sitting in the dome? I live in New Zealand and the sun is really intense so I'm a little concerned.
Hi bud just bought 1 today get del 7th Nov.. was wondering plus idea for you haha . Would you be able to use window tint like you use on cars . What heater do you use if any .. cheers
We use a normal electric fan heater, powered by an outdoor socket, it heats it up pretty quickly. Nice idea about the tints, I can't think of a reason why you couldn't apply them to the panels before assembling the dome, although you'd have to be careful not to cover the screw holes where the panels join together. It would certainly give it a nice look, although might not feel like you're outside/inside any more and that's one of the big draws for me.
@@chrisdevereux hi cheers for reply . Yes just we get sun really strong in garden think be nice just to put them from 1 side .if needed.. won't no till all set up .. so what your thoughts on the quality I think it lot money but till I get it won't no if its good value.. thanks again
@@brianswanson4921 You could also look at the shade sail that Hypedome sell, I'll be making a video about it when the weather warms up again - it should be easier to put up/take down than permanent tints. It is a lot of money, but we use it a lot and will continue to get a lot of value out of it over the years.
It does block sound a little, but I wouldn't expect double glazing levels of quiet! It does seem to keep sound inside quite well (maybe the shape helps) so if you had some music playing inside, it would do a good job of drowning out the busy street.
I am disappointed with this dome , as a lot of rain is getting in and am currently pumping water out It's become a pound. I followed the instructions and am now frustrated. Any advice - rain seems to becoming in from the top and sides I beleive.
If the panels are all overlapping correctly I don’t see how water can run in. Even in wind blown rain conditions ours is dry inside except for a little around the base.
@@chrisdevereux Chris. I understand your dome is an Hypedome. The policarbonate covering is so much better than the plastic covering. Can you recommend a good supplier for one? Regards David
Watch out for a new video in a couple of weeks that shows the door. The floor panels are from vidaxl but if you Google for decking tiles, you'll find many suppliers of the same product.
Those ufo-like building is POLISH and on the polish side of the border. True is that this summit is in fact Śnieżka. It would be nice if You could correct it. Best regards. ❤
Would you say the dome is really waterproof apart from leakage at the bottom? Wondering if you think it would be safe to leave furniture cushions outside? I'd like to not have to bring these in all the time! Thx
Any advice re condensation? I have a window panel permanently open but some water ingress at bottom ( on decking base) and condensation in dome has caused some furniture mould damage. Hope to find a solution if anyone has advice . Another window? Different flooring? Thanks in advance . No regrets buying it just want to be able to use it all year round
This dome is waterproof, but is not watertight. Remember that everything was removed from inside when washing it down. And he did say washing it made a mess on the inside. Inherent in the design, there will be small 4mm gaps in at least 1/3rd of the joints where panels come together, and water can be blown through those joints. You can see these gaps in his video. Most of the water will stick to the panels and run to the outside, but some can drip off at screws and corners randomly. This a great weather resistant product, but it is designed for the outside. Probably should refrain from leaving the television in it year around. Excellent job on the vid Chris. Very clear, easy to understand, and illustrated the points well.
@@julimt7 The flooring/base is very important with this problem. If you can block the water rising from underneat you might be able to eliminate most of the condensation.
It looks wonderful and I loved your video but I wouldn't be able to construct something like that in my garden. Maybe I could find someone to do it for me.
Since it (supposedly) has UV protection, I would like to know if you have experience on growing plants inside (they need the UV radiation for photosynthesis). Thanks for your video. Miguel
Thanks. I don't personally have experience of growing anything inside the dome but I do know my furniture colour has faded - So does that mean UV gets in?
I’ve done silconed mine and the green still gets in despite that. I have the much large Glamping dome. Best way is to have a 2 person system to clean each side, loosening, cleaning and re-tightening the panels. This is a must to keep it clean.
Material comes in square or rectangle In theory you could do Your geodesic by screw hole bolt fastener placement Nice to see a small Paper cardboard Mini model version.. This your endeavor Is not genius.. or is it. Is smart brilliant excellent clever . Genius Will have to wait in line
So couple of questions. There is actually no ring around the base like the asteera one? How do you attach the planters ? The asteera ones are £110 each. It wasn’t shown how you attach the door frame is that easy enough? I presume the sections have been Pre cut?
There's no ring around the bottom, it's designed to sit on a wooden deck or grass. The whole frameless look would be ruined by something around the bottom I think. There are L-shaped feet that the planters sit on. They're attached to the dome panels at the bottom using the regular screws/nuts. Yes, all panels etc are pre-cut. The door frame is easy enough to fix if the structure is perfectly round (which it should be). It uses self tapping screws for the aluminium frame itself.
Hi Chris thanks for reply. Have tried to compare with the asteera igloo. More robust and more expensive ( hyperdome) that one has the ring around the base. With the extras the hyperdome is coming in at about £3000 more. Do like the hyperdome. Do you have any kind of heater or air conditioning?
@@paulevans6453 Hi Paul, for us the PVC type igloos would just not cut it in the weather we get, and so the money you pay for Hypedome gets you something that will last years, rather than a season. We do use ours in the winter and have a small portable heater to keep the chill off once the sun has gone. It's noticeably warmer inside, especially without the wind chill. We love ours still because it allows us to be 'outside' in any weather and over the course of a few years, definitely worth the money in my opinion. Hope that helps! Try discount code CHRISDEVEREUX at checkout and you'll get some money off, which should help towards any extras!
Hi Chris thanks for info. Can get with interest free credit. Just wondered how have you fitted circuit breaker. Got the armoured cable to go in but how did you set up electric? Cheers Paul.
Hi Chris, looks great!…and really insightful video. I’m curious, what is it like in winter? With a heater do they retain the heat or do you have to have the heater at full volume all the time? I need an outdoor space but have to be able to use as an office through winter too. Hypedome say the can give me a panel with a hole for a flue for a log burner….from your experience is this a good idea? Thanks!
Hi there, thanks for your kind comments! We do use it in the winter with a small portable electric heater, but I haven't used it all day long like that. I suspect the heater would need to be on low most of the time, depending on whether the sun was shining. It heats up well with just a little sun. The idea of using a log burner sounds great and I can't think of any reason not to do it as long as the flue was properly isolated from the panels around it. Only issue i can foresee when using it as an office is that you may struggle to see your screen in the bright daylight! Let me know how you get on. Chris
Hi bud got 1 on way .. would never thought to use a log fire 🔥 imaging it would melt 😂 so if you do can you let me no how it goes .. cos in winter be great .. got log fire in the house ..cheers
Apparently, there's this polycarbonate adhesive known as Lexel that you probably could have used to bond the panels together for a permanent watertight seal. You wouldn't have any algae growth at the joints and pressure washing wouldn't be a problem.
i would steer away from silicone inbetween the gaps. its better with the clean lines and just wash it occasionally. i filled the gaps between the panel joints with a small shim of additional clear plastic.
Just saw one of these for the first time today and considering it to go around my hot tub thanks for the review

Can you share some detailed pictures of this rolling shutter door? Thank you very much 276398863a@gmail.com
The video (17 seconds in) suggests they are attached to the door frame on both sides ua-cam.com/video/s7bkmKMmvy4/v-deo.html
There are some self-closing magnetic ones of Amazon for £20. Just use velcro to attach to the Frame.
Grate video. Śnieżka is in Poland😊
Hello Chris, can u tell me what the eye nuts size?thank you so much
Hi, it became clear that there are 2 different sizes that were produced, they will either be 3mm or 4mm. Amazon links are in the description of my first Hypedome video.
Excellent video - thanks for uploading. I'm also in the south of Scotland and wonder how your dome coped with the gales?
Thanks Keith, it coped very well actually, not a problem at all. Provided it's anchored properly the round shape seems to handle wind well.
@@chrisdevereux Many thanks for the helpful reply. Your experience has persuaded me to buy one.
@@kh2040 Use of my link in the description is always appreciated if you do buy one 🙂
Hi. Great video. Are you going to do the follow-up (review in the summer/sun) that you mentioned? Thanks.
Yes, should be out in the next few weeks - summer is a little later in Scotland ;-) If you subscribe you'll get notified when I post it.
Good afternoon. Tell me another 1 year has passed. How is your dome?
Chris Devereux Thanks Chris that is really helpful. Would a membrane under your decking tiles help?
@@julimt7 I think the water would just run under the membrane and I'd be worried it would never dry out which could cause rot problems. It might help with the spiders if you could find a way to attach it to the inside of the dome around the edges. To be honest, it's not been so much of a problem for us, so I've not tried it! Maybe the subject of another video :)
Chris Devereux Yes please!!! Lots of tweaks for people to share! I’ve just ordered a sample tile … and will think about our situation some more. Thanks again
Hi so would you put the foam straight down onto the patio or would you put the decking tiles on top of the foam? Thank you
Thank you for your very informative video. Just one questions: where do you get eye nuts?
Hey Kareen, thanks! I got the eye nuts from Amazon but any good hardware store should stock them too.
Why havemt you made vertical windmills
What are the interior acoustical properties? Does it reverberate?
Interesting question...Not that I've noticed, there's maybe a bit of echo in an empty dome but not once you add some furniture. The most interesting feature is when playing music from a speaker placed near to the outside of the dome, the sound seems to come from all angles. It creates quite a cool surround sound effect!
It looks very cozy! What size dome is it you have? I see that they are being sold in three sizes: Mini, S and M, but it's a bit difficult to see from the pictures on the web page how spacious they are.
This is the S you see in the video. We've had 6 people seated comfortably inside.
@@chrisdevereuxThank you; that's very helpful!
Onde há a venda ?
Hi Chris
Is your dome the mini dome or the hype dome S?
Hi Debbie, ours is the Hypedome S (the original one). Hope that helps!
Great video, can you tell me how big is you dome? I’m buying the 3.5m diameter one, hope it wouldn’t be too small.
Thanks. This one is the S which is the 3.6m one. Perfect size!
I just had a brainwave!..why not just dig a thin shallow trench all around the outside to stop the rain coming in at the bottom?..would save all that hassle with tiles? - :)
I guess my biggest concern would be the materials and fading from the sun
What kind of weather station are you using and would you recommend?
@@chrisdevereux hi again! How are we supposed to keep the door open?
Absolutely wonderful!! what's the size of each hexagonal panel by the way please?
I've got full plans if your interested..

Hi can you tell me how big is your Dome we have only room for mini one are garden so small
Hi John, it's 3.6m diameter, I think that's known as the M on Hypedome website.
Cheers Chris..iam in to mines..hyperdome s size.3.6meters Is working out at 2700 euros
And I was all so looking at geoDomeX.the same size 3.5 metres for 1800 euro..its all so very popular
Hi. I love your dome and what you have done with it. I have recently bought one. I just wondered whether you have any major issues with condensation in the winter? I seem to be getting lots of drips on my furniture to the point where I have had to cover them with plastic sheeting at the moment.
Hey Kate. How did your dome do in the winter? I'm in western Canada and I'm thinking of buy the S dome. Your thoughts ?
Hi Kate - having similar problem here, did you manage to resolve it?
Hi where did you get the hook screws to hang your bunting and lights off please?
Hi Phil, they're from Amazon, there's a link to them in my other build video if you need it.
Hi bud how the dome going ... can I ask what if any problems you had with insects .slugs .other critters ..cheers
@@chrisdevereux Thanks for your prompt response, much appreciated.
Hi Chris, please can you tell me what size the eye nuts are? Thanks!
Ours are 4mm (M4) the same as the screws that hold the panels together.
How effectively does it block out noise? Would you recommend it for a garden that is next to a busy street?
It does block sound a little, but I wouldn't expect double glazing levels of quiet! It does seem to keep sound inside quite well (maybe the shape helps) so if you had some music playing inside, it would do a good job of drowning out the busy street.
I like it!
Pretty cool. Polycarbonate is some pretty tough stuff.
Polyvarbonate is tough but its a soft plastic and therefore very easy to scratch, no good in a sandstorm :)
I am disappointed with this dome , as a lot of rain is getting in and am currently pumping water out
It's become a pound.
I followed the instructions and am now frustrated.
Any advice - rain seems to becoming in from the top and sides I beleive.
If the panels are all overlapping correctly I don’t see how water can run in. Even in wind blown rain conditions ours is dry inside except for a little around the base.
Hi. What size is the Hypedome you build on UA-cam?
There was only one size when we got ours, but it's now called the S (3.6m across)
@@chrisdevereux Chris. I understand your dome is an Hypedome. The policarbonate covering is so much better than the plastic covering. Can you recommend a good supplier for one?
Regards David
Can you show us the door and how it works? What brand were the floor panels? Nice video!
Thx
Hi there, yes it's absolutely water proof, we have a coffee table and soft cushion chairs inside permanently without any problems at all!
@@CaseDadToo Condensation does not mean rain water.
@@julimt7 The flooring/base is very important with this problem. If you can block the water rising from underneat you might be able to eliminate most of the condensation.
Is it still looking good after 2 years?
No, it blew away
It looks wonderful and I loved your video but I wouldn't be able to construct something like that in my garden. Maybe I could find someone to do it for me.
Thanks - I know of others who have used handyman type services to put it together for them.
Thanks for your answer. I would say yes. I think the dome looks great and your tips are awesome! I think I’m getting one! 😍
Hi there anyone with the hyperdome had the lighting kit?
I would silicone each seems so green stuff 😂 doesn’t grow in between
I’ve done silconed mine and the green still gets in despite that. I have the much large Glamping dome. Best way is to have a 2 person system to clean each side, loosening, cleaning and re-tightening the panels. This is a must to keep it clean.

Can you wax it like you would a car?
@@paulevans6453 oh nothing permanent, just an outside socket and an extension cable 🙂

Depends how you wash your car! Doesn't everyone use 2 buckets, grit guards, sheep's wool mitten etc? 🙂
@@chrisdevereux I meant the seagull :)
@@6yjjk 😆😆
Apparently, there's this polycarbonate adhesive known as Lexel that you probably could have used to bond the panels together for a permanent watertight seal. You wouldn't have any algae growth at the joints and pressure washing wouldn't be a problem.
Wouldn't this result in damage when the wind pushes the dome from outside to inside?
seams like a hot box in Texas heat how does it stay livable
Śnieżka is in Poland, not Chech Republic ;) Awesome video though.
Śnieżka is not Czech Republic!!!! Sorry guys please check correctly on internet or on old fashion way I books or maps. Enjoy
They don't look like much, it's hard to believe they cost $1500 or more.

A little silicone caulk would go a long way on this
i would steer away from silicone inbetween the gaps. its better with the clean lines and just wash it occasionally. i filled the gaps between the panel joints with a small shim of additional clear plastic.
