Just as tip to prevent the light cantrip bugging out, you can actually cast light on your armor by throwing your armor on the ground and casting light on it then equipping it. that way its not on your weapon and you can have light at all times
Unfortunately when used this way it only lasts for 20 turns. The daylight spell would work, but thats not gonna be available unless you find some spell scrolls. Though i suppose you could just keep recasting light every minute while traveling until you get the moonlantern or the blessing of selune.
Not many people will think "Golly gosh, for my very first videos I'm going to record an entire playthrough of a game, cut and edit all of that, add commentary and then potentially do it all over again!" But I'm really glad you did! Here's to you gaining a lot more subs so your work pays off, and most importantly, so that I have bragging rights later for being an early sub :D
I was praying someone would use this format of video for Baldurs gate 3, seems like a perfect fit with all the playstyles and weird tricks you can do. Good shit, love your content so far.
THESE ARE YOUR FIRST TWO VIDEOS?? The quality is awesome and what I thought was second monitor content for five minutes of the first video enthralled me and stole my attention for the past hour because I ended up watching both parts back to back. I'm stoked to have found this series and I'm excited to see what else you have in store. Cheers!
Thank you so much I appreciate the kind words so so much this series has been a dream come true for me with how great the reception has been, act 3 on its way!
I love the editing, this was exactly the kind of BG3 content I was looking for. I don't have the time nor the attention span to watch a 4 hour video of someone creating their character. Telling a condensed story with high level overviews of the fights is absolutely the way to go. Looking forward to future videos
Best way to self-illuminate for either callous ring buff or the shadow curse is just to cast the 'produce flame' cantrip and never throw the flame. Thing lasts forever and you always have it out. Also, on an Eldritch knight with crap intelligence and a bunch of damage riders like you have, the best spell is magic missile. Especially good for not wasting turns on a bunch of low hp enemies. I don't know why, but your narration style is strangely both relaxing and captivating. Keep up the good work. Really enjoying this series!
so fun fact, if you are a battle master with the disarming attack maneuverer, or have the command spell, you can make mrykul drop his scythe, really makes the fight easy if you wanna get in close
Bro I literally found your first video an hour ago, only to see the next one in the series had been posted as I finished the first one. Praise be to the almighty Algorithm
man, that fight at moonrise looks hard doing it this way. I tried stealing from the vendors in there and got into fights with them before freeing aylin, which separated the fight into 3 different fights i could do by myself without any of the dumb npcs causing problems. Also netted me a bunch of money.
Second video posted! Are you surprised? Cuz i am! It feels like he has a million subs. I'm honestly impressed with the quality. Is this channel the first time you've ever posted Truant?
Aww haha thank you! Yes it is my first time making videos, I learned how to edit for it just cause I was enjoying playing this game so much and wanted to make videos for it!
Amazing video, i know its a bit heavy for the avg viewer a 30min-long video but bg3 deserves that, please keep doing this great of a job condensanting the experience but not excluding too much
Great video friend! One thing that could be cool to add to the end of these kind of videos is the number of game overs/resets. It’s also neat to see this build which is very interesting and something I never would have thought of. I look forward to seeing the climax of Soft’s adventure!
Keep the good work and help me to prove that tactician is to easy. I honestly want to thank you for this. I don't have good enough gear to make videos like this.
finished this and the first episode and went to your profile to find out these were your first two videos, I'm ridiculously impressed. Subbed and excited for future content!
If you cast Light on yourself (like, literally click on yourself, not on any item) it will infuse your weapon with light, but actually make it last until Long Rest. It’s weird, I dont know if it’s bugged, but yeah, that’s how you actually get it to last until Long Rest like the tooltip says lol. Great video btw! I’m looking forward to more of this series!
I’ve been hoping to find someone making content like this with bg3 since i started playing and you’re exactly that!! This series is phenomenal so far, it’s been super engaging and I’m definitely excited for more in any form! Keep doing what you’re doing because dude you’re doing it well :D
Unfortunately I haven’t played through act 2 yet so I won’t watch this yet, but given how good the last video was I am preemptively giving a like and comment. Can’t wait to see this and the next one.
This is phenomenal content! Your style reminds me a lot of Press Continue and his similar challenge guides with fromsoft games. Never thought I’d see a BG3 equivalent, but I’m very happy to be proven wrong!
Omg I did not realise these were your first two videos until I went to the comments. Both of these videos are so well done and such high quality. Well done bro! Looking forward to the act 3 video and keen to see where your channel goes!

I’m also playing on tactician, but with a full party. I’m doing as much of a ‘full clear’ as possible so I got to that final fight at 2 levels higher. I had a much harder time and thankfully the villain was tactically dumb on a few rounds. This is a pretty impressive run. Thanks for posting it.
These videos are fantastic. Thank you for making them. I have been playing a solo Barbarian Tactician playthrough based on your videos (Zariel Tiefling for the Intimation advantage, currently Tiger Wildheart for the cleave spam). I'm still in act 1 but a lot of the stuff you did applies pretty cleanly to solo Barbarian as well. I still keep an arsenal of chucking weapons (which I have to fetch the old-fashioned way) but so far I've mostly been going into melee in most fights because it usually means I kill things faster (unless an easy opportunity for LoS kiting/playing king-of-the-hill and yeeting people from the high ground presents itself). About the only rules of yours I've broken so far have been no combat saves (I'm sorry but I HAD to savescum the harpy fight, getting charmed solo vs. harpies is almost always GGs...granted I picked that fight at level 2, which perhaps wasn't wise) and no illithid powers (I don't need too many of them but I'm too addicted to Favorable Beginnings + Luck of the Far Realms). It definitely feels like one of the easier classes to solo with even if you don't go Tavern Brawler. Compare that with the solo Wizard I started on my lunch break who has to slink in shame past the two Intellect Devourers at the start of act 1 because she can't whittle them down to Sleep-able HP fast enough before they mind-blast her for half or more of her HP. (Haven't found a combo of Nautiloid tank + Grease + Sleep + Magic Missile yet that lets her kill them fast AND safely enough.) I think Gale has oversold the wonders of the Weave.
Thank you for watching them! I'm glad to hear your challenge run is going well but my goodness level 2 harpies is insane, no wonder you had to save in the middle of it, mad props! And yeah I'm a little worried for a future wizard run with this ruleset early game
@@the_truant I also didn't realize I was level 2 fighting the harpies until several reloads in, lol. Granted I was playing Barb so it wasn't too bad. Wizard would have been way worse. I tried the Harpies at level 4(or was it 3?) last night on my solo Wizard and wow, it's even worse. You can easily break their conc with Magic Missile but it hardly matters because the next available harpy will just start singing. So your only real CC options are Sleep (takes a while) or kill (better, but spell-slot dependent). I had 16 AC from light armor+shield when I fought them but it was still super spicy because depending on rolls they could kill me in 2-4 hits between turns. And I had to stick near Mirkon or else they'd end the poor kid. I accidentally kited the last remaining harpy into the level 3 druid at the edge of the grove. He jumped in to help, but got shitty rolls with his staff and the harpy just ended him while I was chasing her up from the low ground with cantrips.
I did the Marcus fight on my solo gloomstalker assassin, and holy hell! The amount of restarts and rages due to Isabel's stupidity.... they need to make the friendly AI a bit smarter
Good job with the video again, bro! Keep it up! Funny thing in my run... Quartermaster got pulled into the moonrise fight. She runs up to the Warden, dodges 2 opportunity attacks, and then crits the warden to kill her. The warden was already really low, but it was hilarious to see lol. Also helpful because the warden would've definitely downed one of my teammates her very next turn.
I would have good reason to return to this video multiple times if you put your gear list (with time stamps would be a bonus) in the description. Regardless, it's a great vid.
I saved Izabel during my lone wolf by throwing an invis potion on the floor between us (once we were surrounded and the winged flaming fist was dead)--the cambies ran off to deal with the others.
I'm doing my lone wolf run with gloom stalker ranger/assassin rogue (5 ranger then all rogue). Way less sustained damage then throwing, but more utility with thorns, long strider and jump spells, and a ton of burst. With some finagling (mostly just manipulating line, engaging 1 guy at a time and one-shooting him) i was able to clear the entire first floor of the Moonrise, prior to going to the mausoleum. => All harpers are alive. P.S. Not relevant for you now, but pro tip: If you have goodberry spell (ranger, druid etc.), before taking long rest waste your leftover spell slots on it. And then use it as food for long rest.
You could have made the Moonrise towers fight a lot easier on yourself by first walking in and talking to the handler of the gnolls, you can use your tadpole to break her control of the gnolls which will immediately turn on her and kill her and remain in the tower as your allies who will join your side during the final fight. You can also go into the dungeon and cause a prison break which will draw and funnel all the enemies down there towards you and give you some meatshields as the prisoners love charging bare fisted into the paladins down there. Neither of these actions aggro the people in the tower and would basically half the amount of enemies you had to fight. Although it did make a more epic and intimidating scene in the video (at the cost of all the harpers) so not all bad
You can cheese the game a little by putting the game in turn base mode just before attacking, that will refresh your action in the beginning of combat. Just like you can throw the grenade that Yorgir land making quite a lot of damages. But most importantly thanks for the video.
I think the reason why Dame Aylin wasn't in the cutscene where she's supposed to be getting slapped around is because she was already busy doing Death Saving Throws. xD
The odds of 3 20s in a row (not counting karmic dice fuckery since I don't know exactly how it effects the odds), the chances are 20^3, or 8000. Very close to the chance of finding a shiny mon gens 2-5
Great stuff! Small detail (the following might be mysteriously wrong, due to bg3 logic, which is that there is no logic) : the lightning jabber won't do 1-4 twice when you throw it, since all "on hit" effects mysteriously don't work in bg3, much like enhancement bonuses don't, so the 1-4 when thrown is the only bonus you'll get. Still the best weapon, of course, since all other weapons are literally vanilla (or worse, if not a "thrown" weapon) when thrown. This is all balanced out with the magically massively buffed Tavern Brawler feat, of course. You have an interesting approach to this run. You skip a massive amount of content and fights in Act 1 (although you do what is probably the hardest fight, against the Guardian). This has the advantage of skipping some dangerous encounters, with the disadvantage that you are lvl 5 rather than 7 when you start act 1. It all worked out well, of course.
Yeah I'm not gunna lie I have no idea how Bg3 decides how anything works, but learning through comments like yours is great for all future runs so thank you very much! And yes I'm not gunna lie the skipping encounters stuff has no rhyme or reason I just like speeding through the game haha. Never been much of a completionist!
Damn, you should have kept Astarion at least in your camp, at Moonrise, someone wants to “see him,” and in return you get a potion that gives you a permanent +2 to STR, which would have put you at 22 total strength
Dang, this is really cool! I've been enjoying this series and can't wait to go check out all your other vide- Oh. Darn it. Well, keep up the great work!

That unfortunately requires having astarion join me which would be against the rules I set for myself, but I did yearn to do so, believe me haha
Dang, this is really cool! I've been enjoying this series and can't wait to go check out all your other vide-
Oh. Darn it.
Well, keep up the great work!
Haha I hope to soon have a large selection for you to watch! thank you so much!
Loving this series.
Great videos! Unfortunately, I can't continue watching just yet because, after 110+ hours, I'm only at 24:10. (Yes, I've read all the books.)
No worries my friend, enjoy those books, these videos aren't going anywhere!
i love you, coming here from the Bard series :3
Can't wait for more :D what a funny guy for someone who's not done any videos before, do you have a discord server or anything like that?
I'm working on setting one up! I'll let everyone know as soon as it's ready but it might be a while still since I'm unfamiliar with discord
