Its amazing how a console based headset has overnight become the best true PCVR headset that you can buy right now, yes it may have a lower resolution than the highest priced headsets but the OLED panels and colour vibrancy really make up for that, I was surprised to see the FOV exceed the Valve index which really has until now been the benchmark for FOV without distortions, any Index owners sat on the fence have a great upgrade route and the PSVR2 also does not suffer from the Index's notorious lens glare either, Sony have a big winner on their hands here.

It's not as far as you may think. Q3 makes it pretty cheap overall, because it's %100 stand alone. Meaning the price of the headset $500/700 plus a strap upgrade is all you need for a great VR experience. But you will be limited to what software for Quest. That's a good start considering how big the library of games they have is. Then when you can afford a PC, you get access to PCVR games via your Quest and they should play well. PSVR2 is a good alternate route now, IF you already have a PS5. You can into VR gaming with just the headset, but will have a much more limited selected of games on PS. Based on the comparisons I've been seeing (like this one), it looks like the big jump is in performance with PSVR2. It's an overall better headset technically, so in the end it comes down to game library. Even then you have to give Quest a big bonus for wireless capabilities as well.

Managed to get a adapter lastnight and tried it with my 4070. Wow so stoked with the results. I'm really curious to see what gains the PS5 pro will give to it now because its apparent that the base ps5 is holding it back. Non the less I'm happy that I have a headset i can use on multiple platforms considering I play GT7 and now AMS2 and ACC. 🙏 Thanks for your honesty.
@@derschnuff8819 NGL dude but the base already runs them reasonably well and in games like Beat Saber.. @@cotac7026 Hey, was it hard to set it up? Is that so?
I have psvr2, just dont use it much in comparison with other headsets. This might help change that but the psvr2 fanbase is so tribal its cringe. Any negative comparisons are taken as a personal attack. Its just a headset, and having different opinions doesn't make them a "hater" of psvr2 or you.
@shaneg8029 "but the psvr2 fanbase is so tribal its cringe" The same could be said for the Meta fanbase. Even more so, as there are far more children playing on that platform. You don't remember all if those "PsVr2 iS dEaD 🤣🤣🤣" comments and videos??
@@rockowilson2320 I'd have to agree with that statement that I believe that Sony fans started acting this way once the headset started being attacked. I would just leave a comment saying how I owned a PSVR2 but thought the quest 3 was nice and was told that my headset sucked. So many videos were being put out per week saying that the headset had died.
@TheColdest247 For real. There was a point where you honestly couldn't find a single PS VR2 video on UA-cam without a Quest fanboy shitting on it in the comments. It looks like those "PS VR2 is dead" videos have started to die down at least. Thank goodness, that was super annoying having to see that almost daily.
@AndrewTSq Pretending like you don't plug the quest in after it starts dying within 2 hours of full charge. Face it, you're playing wired regardless. Both headsets are essential for VR and its growth. They can and should coexist. And we should not be discouraging people from having either.
@@DissTrackTed I never said PSVR2 can not exist, I have both Quest 2 and 3, and if I had a PS5 I would have a PSVR2 aswell I guess, but playing Half Life Alyx was not a fun thing with a cable. @@AndrewTSq of course wires are disadvantage. But after some experience you will respect the wire, as it gives zero lag, zero compression, and longer battery life. @@MrKinein I have a quest link cable if I really want to, but I do not use it. I have also had VR headsets with wire before, and I think wireless is the way to go. If PSVR3 is wireless I will think about it.
Hey Sebastian, could you please do a video showing how to connect the PSVR2 to a laptop? You used one in the first video and I'm undecided between getting a desktop or gaming laptop, as it seems not all laptops will work with the adapter. I mean: what laptop ports work for the display port cable of the adapter, even if you need a different connection on the laptop end. If you have other laptops you could see what works and why.
You need a laptop that can do dp 1.4! I am using one that has Thunderbolt USB-C. That is connected to USB-C to dp Adapter. Come to mrtv Discord Server, we can help you!
I've coded using Quest 1-3, HP Reverb G2 and PSVR2. Based on the eye screen projection values, HP Reverb's view is the most narrow (49 degrees off center at the edge, tangent value 1.1559), PSVR2 is the widest (61 degrees off center at the edge, tangent value 1.8418). PSVR2's projection values really try to show a lot at the far edges. As a result, the lenses magnify the center so much that the central PPD is actually less than Quest 2. The pixelization is noticable. PSVR2 has great crisp colors and good OLED blacks. Just don't expect the image to look modern. PSVR2 would have needed to have a similar FOV as the HP Reverb G2 to have the same PPD as a Quest 3.
Wish the fov was that good on psvr2 for me, I perceive quest3 to be wider. I feel i have deep eye sockets and the quest can sort of sit under my brow area where the psvr2 lense presses against it if i get too close
FOV really depends on individuals. If you have a small IPD paired with a wrongly shaped nose, you can't wear the PSVR2 headset close to your face (my case because the lenses will pinch my nose) thus reducing significantly the FOV. I find that the design of the quest 3 has no such limitation and you can wear the headset as close as you can. Of course wearing glasses will also affect the FOV.
Can you do a full Quest 3 vs. PSVR2 strictly as PCVR headsets? I currently have a Quest 3 and a Reverb G2, although the Reverb has been retired since I got the Quest 3. I'm wondering if it's worth purchasing a PSVR2 with the adapter, or is their performance close enough that it wouldn't be worth it? This would be strictly for sims, I'd continue to use the Quest 3 for other games due to the wireless capability.
Its oled but significantly less clarity. Quest 3 has 25 PPD with full rgb subpixel arrangement Psvr3 is 18 PPD and pentile. Psvr2 is actually closer to quest 1 as to quest 3 In the end its personal preference. How much sacrifices you can handle for deep blacks
Hi Sebastian! What is the app you used to measure the fov? and do you still do the mrtv experience in germany for your subscribers to try out the headsets? i would be interested!
I just found out the connector used for my Varjo Aero also works as a PSVR2 PC adapter! They are both 'virtuallink' - a pseudo standard. Going to get "my brother" a PSVR2 for christmas... ;)

People deciding to get a PSVR 2 just because of FOV are going to be upset lol. After fucking with it this week on PC and PS5, I'm taking it back and getting quest 3. The slight difference in colors with the OLED screen just doesn't matter when you get horrible mura/screen door blur, RE8 had insane mura that just killed the vibe. Distant images are so blurry and out of focus. To get a big FoV you have to smash the lenses into your face and unless you have a type of face, those lenses are pinching your nose. The bluetooth controller connection to PC is so subpar compared to even the RIFT S. Even with what's considered the best dongle, the ASUS-USB BT-500, its still poor performance at times, floating or just vanishing controllers. I just took screenshots from in game with my RIFT S and PSVR2 in half-life Alyx on a pc with a 4080, and you cant even tell which one is which, the FOV difference is not even noticeable. I will take a better lenses tech with LCD over outdated fresnal lenses with a insane small sweet spot OLED lenses any day.

O boy are you about to be disappointed about the blurry mess. the PSVR 2 looks just like a rift S clarity just little better color depth, i should know, im swapping between the 2 right now testing. Mura and screendoor and ghosting is so real on PSVR2 as well.
@@sollomon The only Vr headset that I had was PSVR 1, so I don't think I will be disappointed. Funny enough I was thinking about getting used Rift S for PC. From what I read it's still a nice set and lower res, Hz will be easier to run.

Probably not but it still makes a big sense buying the PSVR2 PC adapter for those that have PSVR2 and not a Quest 3. Im not seeing these headsets as directly rivals as both have something going for them. If you want wireless there's only one winner, for seated simulations i can see my self favor the PSVR2 as every % extra field of view is extremely beneficial in Sim Racing for example.
They are better and worse than one another in different ways. The Quest 3 is more clear, but the PSVR2 has much better color, contrast, and no compression artifacts. It'll just come down to preference.
I've had both and prefer PSVR2 due to OLED. Local dimming doesn't do the same thing once you're out of anything but total darkness. I also prefer the cable and the weight. I did like Quest Pro but for full immersion PSVR2 (with PS5 and PC) is it for me. I can't go back to LCD.
Quest pro uses LCD so full RGB subpixel arrangement. Psvr2 uses oled and its pentile, same as old Vive and Rift or Quest 1 and the reason anybody switched to LCD. Compare the valve index to the quest 1 to see how massive of a difference that is. Both same resolution, index looks significantly better Quest pro has pancake lenses as well, another massive difference. Everybody claiming the psvr2 is better becaue of oled basically has to also claim a quest 1 or samsung odyssey is better than the index because of oled. Nobody ever did that lol

As a Q3 owner Im thinking if would be worth it to change it for PSVR2 , I was a owner psvr2 as well last year and they are good.. but finding the sweet spot isn't easy. Also no HDR support or eye tracking.. not sure about this one.
@@GAMESRELATED-31but a global cluster for the PSVR2 it puts you in the sweet spot everytime you put the headset on. Complete game changer and makes it by far the most comfortable headset on the market.
There's a lot to like about the psvr2, oled is made for vr. After trying it in a store though, the resolution is a little too low, making everything more blurry than I like, and the mura was incredibly distracting. I was a bit gutted, because I was ready to buy it for pcvr.
@mixedrealityTV Nah, I'll stick with the Pico 4 I have now until there is something new. It's a pretty OK headset for my purposes right now. Call me an optimist, but I'm hoping and waiting for some kind of announcement from Valve regarding vr hardware. Fingers crossed 🤞
I have bought a global cluster for my psvr2 and it pretty much puts you in the sweet spot everytime you put it on and makes it the most comfortable headset I’ve ever worn.
I came from a Quest 1 to a Quest 3 and was so shocked by the poor Q3 FOV -- especiallly when I heard it was better than the Quest 2. I slightly prefer my Quest 1 to my Quest 3 for standalone for a number of reasons including weight distribution and battery life. Quest 3 in my view is over engineered. Suppose that's why they're bringing out a Q3S
I did the same upgrade and quest 3 FOV is significantly better than quest 1. clarity is lightyears ahead (way higher res and no oled pentile). Only drawback is the smaller binocular overlap
These parameters are strictly individual and depend on the interpupillary distance, the narrower the eyes are set and the smaller the face, the greater the peripheral vision in the helmet, the child would record even greater values of FOV.
@@paulerlingheuser8453 the resolution is better, but everything else is worse on quest 3. the tracking of the controllers, the batterylife, the comfort (the q3 is too tight in the nose area). it also complains more about low light in the room than the q2. maybe q3s is better. but yes i do not see much difference in terms of field of view between q2 and q3
There is one more thing, my PS5 is downstairs and my PC is upstairs. When I start PSVR2 for comp, my PS5 downstairs also turns on. I downloaded a free game without knowing it. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have tge adaptor and also had no luck with the controllers working. I moved my Bluetooth adapter away from the pc usb port to a usb port on my monitor and it now work perfectly. The problem was that there is interference effecting the Bluetooth adapter when its plugged into the pc.
Having both, yes, it seems psvr is a bit better in hfov, but only if the lens is pressed up to my eyes. That’s not a problem by itself, except in that case it is extremely uncomfortable for me. It squeezes my nose if i set the ipd correctly and actually touches my eyebrows. If i set them both up comfortably (though for me thats impossible with the psvr, it is always uncomfortable), the quest3 wins by far. Then there is the sharpness thing, which is a lot better in the quest 3 with properly set up resolution and compression rate. Then There is chromatic aberration and light rays that are not present on the quest (pancake vs fresnel lenses), the sweet spot thing, which is also not an issue with the quest, but a huge problem with the psvr2 in comparison. O, and the screendoor, which is barely noticeable in the quest3 even if I look for it, while with the psvr2 it was like seeing an old “friend” again when I put it on after using the quest 3 all the time. And a personal game breaker, the halo or whatever you call the thing that holds it around your head. I mostly play sims in a chair and with the psvr2 I can’t tilt my head back against the chair because it pushes the thing off my head. Not a problem with the quest. For me in this comparison the only pro for the psvr2 is that it doesn’t put a lithium battery right next to my eyes. That’s it. The fov is not a pro, I can only make that better than that of the quest if it’s set up very uncomfortably. Edit: and i forgot to mention tracking. The quest can track even in pretty low light situations, while the psvr needs distinct features in the room even in bright light and it still drifts all the time.often I sit in a racecar and the car just goes away from me while I stay in place or vice versa. Never happens with the quest3. The quest also can drift, but slowly and it’s only noticable after a while, while the psvr is able to drift a lot in a second.
The sad part is the face tracking they make sure it is not working for people that want to make use of that nice new functions . Fun all the new headsets. And alot more comming. But why do we need higher resolutions when the games are trash. It's all mobile games now. 5 and 6 years ago a game was easy 140gb big. Now you get when a game is decent looking 13gb but most or 3gb to 200mb . We don't need headsets . We need actual non mobile games we nee good pcvr games and if they make headsets give is a display port or make ubc port work as a display port. Meta simply refuses to while they can make it work
I don't understand & am no pc guy, but if it has such a big fov then why am i reading in many places that the sweetspot is so small & nothing like the quest 3? Many have also said that the q3 & Reverb g2 are better. Is tgis psvr2 good or not?
Sweet spot isn't about FOV, once you're IN the sweet spot you see ALL of the available FOV clearly (at least your peripheral vision 'sees' the extra FOV as part of the world - no different to fixed foveated rendering on devices that can't do eye tracked dynamic foveated rendering). It means turning your head more instead of just your eyes. The FOV is a technical limit of the screens/lenses of a given HMD. The sweet spot is only affected by the lens type. I've had many HMDS inc Quest Pro (pancake) and PSVR2 and once you're in PSVR2 it's clear. Sweet spot means you have to turn your head a little more to look somewhere instead of just swivelling your eyes. I prefer PSVR2's many positives over the Pancake lens, LCD and lower FOV of Quest Pro. Everyone had different preferences though so try them all.
@@mixedrealityTV Pancake = very large sweet spot, sharp image also on the borders Fresnel = small sweet spot. Blurry borders, chromatic aberration Its not the only big drawback. PPD is also significantly lower (18 vs 25) and it uses an pentile subpixel arrangement like most oleds. And its wired. I mean yes it has deep blacks but so did the quest 1 and nobody kept using that once better LCD headsets arrived. Even the same resolution valve index with lower PPD was a huge upgrade in clarity over an quest 1. Mura and black smear are additional oled drawbacks and LCD have significantly better motion clarity. But yes, black is no deep black but more a black „light“. Looks similar to black cardboard.
@@passone I agree, when i was looking for faults i found them, but when im concentrating on the game play its not a problem for me either. I have HP reverb(great for seated) and Oculus Rift CV1(still great for workout games) , but im still very exited to get my PSVR2 to work on PC.
It's weird how the quest 3 cannot do the vertical test properly. Perhaps each headset the calibration/zoom angle changes? Do you feel this actual difference yourself? I trust your own judgement over the program... 116 seems too good to be true.. My OD+ feels like a nice field of view and I think it only gets 102. for me this would be the winner with that FOV and OLED over all the other headsets. I would sacrifice the resolution
havent tried the vr2 on pc yet and meassured it. my friend has one, and i instantly felt, like the fov is smaler for me, then on the index. guess my headshape differs
It's not subjective, it's individual! 😅 Voodoo has very deep esesockets. I think the reason why Seb is getting out of balance vertical FOV with Q3 is because of the Headstrap or the way he is wearing it.
Fresnel lenses are literally impossible with current generation OLED because OLED is not only dimmer but also doesn't produce a polarized light that pancake lenses require so you have to add polarizer that cuts an already dimm picture. OLED with Pancake lenses would produce less nits that there is in standard projector cinema. If Sony wanted to use Pancake they would have to go for MicroOLED but the whole headset would cost $1200 at the minimum so adoption rate would be not enough to support PSVR software market. I respect what they did - created second evolutionary path to LCD for VR in this ~$500 range. If they would pick LCD we would have Quest 3... and would not know how a modern OLED VR headset would look. Sony could not wait 2 years for MicroOLED to get cheaper they have to release something and they did. The biggest mistake in my opinion was lack of wireless support and too weak CPU in PS5 - motion resolution and latency for wireless mode would be OK at 120FPS.
Well the Quest 3 FOV is adequate enough for me and the Sweet spot of the pancake lenses. I also have no problem with the colors of the Quest 3. I have no need for the PSVR headset on my PC. So it is better, I am not going to buy every headset that comes out. Money does not grow on trees for me. I am waiting to see what the Quest 4 may have to offer far as specifications which is 1-2 years from now. No hurry to switch from my Quest 3 at this time.
I am not sure if there will be a quest 4, because quest 2 outsells the quest 3. Maybe there will only be a cheaper quest 4s or none quest at all. who knows.
@dathyr1 Good for you, I don't think this video was to sell you a psvr2, it was just letting you know how it stacks up., But it was not just the fov, did you not see the difference in quality of the image? Even on a video, it was quite apparent.
I have both and am seriously on the edge thinking if I should bye this. As an early adopter I already paid a lot more for psvr2 than it costs right now and I didn't have that much use of it. Q3 is fine for me for PC use. Does the slighly higher fov makes that much of a difference when the edges of the viewport in psvr2 are blurry anyway because of the lenses? Q3 has edge-to-edge clarity.
I own both. Between them PSVR2 is my choice for PCVR. I use Quest 3 while travelling. Visually it's a wash between them. But that remote streaming latency on Quest 3 is a big drawback to me. People only ever talk about compression artifacts, but those just make it less pretty. The latency of Quest streaming actually affects game play.
@@SargonDragon I hated the latency (and LCD) on my Quest Pro. PSVR2 replaced all my (proper) PC HMDs (all OLED) in one go, and been using on my PS5 for a year. Win/Win. And yeah the latency on Quests when turning your head and the picture is in a box of jelly, along with compression and grey blacks really pulls you out of AAA VR, it doesn't feel real at all.
While i appreciate the fov comparison here, it really comes down to: Do you wanna be wired or wireless? I’ve had OLED Rift cv1 and Valve index. @Frajstylz The rift cv1 does not compare, I own one. The resolution is only hd at best. And the brightness of the panel can't compare. The only thing you get with wireless headsets is convenience, nothing else. If the best experience is what you want, wired is the only way to get that.
@@bumpsy2358 I have to disagree! I think not having the cord makes it the best experience! The better colors is nice and all, but at 200bitrate wireless the visual quality is practically unchanged from compression. After having all 3, no cord is the way. I do miss the Knuckles though.
@@CalyOS yes for casual gaming it is the most convenient. I have 7 headsets, 3 of them wireless. 2 meta products and one pico 4. And a 4090 graphics card. So I speak from experience. Make it simple for you all, psvr fov is not much different then the quest 3 the theres not a big difference with colors lol oleds aren't even that good due to the crappy dated lenses and the most horrible sweetspot out of any vr headset on the market plus the mura is unforgivable that causes you to adjust the headset every few minutes on top of being comfortable, these just seem like sony fanboys, just be 100% with the facts.
I still to this day think even my Rift CV1 had a better sense of immersion than my Quest 3 because of the just super contrast, deeper blacks, and better colour. On PC when you adjust the IPD wheel, it just shows you the number like on Quest. So no issues there. You just need to measure your kid’s IPD.

@shaneg8029 "but the psvr2 fanbase is so tribal its cringe"
The same could be said for the Meta fanbase.
@@AndrewTSq of course wires are disadvantage. But after some experience you will respect the wire, as it gives zero lag, zero compression, and longer battery life.

@@mixedrealityTV Ok. Thank you.
So of the two which one has the better binocular overlap? I care more about that than fov.
As Sebastian stated in his previous PSVR2 video - the PSVR2 has the better overrlap.
@@loudoesreviews thank you for the response. I didn’t see that part but thanks for the reply.
i wish i could purchase the adapter from somewhere
Pimax Crystal (edit: this was for the wide lense add ons) from your last test got 94 vfov and 112 fov
Wish the fov was that good on psvr2 for me, I perceive quest3 to be wider. I feel i have deep eye sockets and the quest can sort of sit under my brow area where the psvr2 lense presses against it if i get too close
VoodoDE has the same problem.
Well psvr2 is 110 degree diagonal and quest 3 is 113 degree so no wonder.
Quest 3 has 25 PPD with full rgb subpixel arrangement
Psvr3 is 18 PPD and pentile.
Psvr2 is actually closer to quest 1 as to quest 3
In the end its personal preference. How much sacrifices you can handle for deep blacks
Watch more comparison videos there are more benefits to using a psvr2 than a quest 3

How does it compare to quest pro for pcvr?
Quest Pro is a nice PCVR headset. I like it. No Mura, good blacks. Still psvr2 has better colors, better FOV, better stereo overlap...
Both same resolution, index looks significantly better
Quest pro has pancake lenses as well, another massive difference.
Everybody claiming the psvr2 is better becaue of oled basically has to also claim a quest 1 or samsung odyssey is better than the index because of oled. Nobody ever did that lol

Nope, Q3 has out of balance vertical fov. It's a known fact.
VoodooDE always gets much lower than normal FOV on all headsets. Compare FOV measurements from the same user using the same software.
Quest 3 Vertical FOV should be 94 as you had 86 for top and 102 for bottom (86+102)/2 = 94.
Right.
You should get a custom face interface from Oblik and tell them that you want maximum FOV, I got like 20 degree more with my custom one.
PSVR2 would be an epic headset if not for the fresnel lenses :/
If only pancake lenses didn't dim the display so much...
@@loudoesreviewsman did you saw pancake vs fresnel?
This is wierd, why I get 110 for with my quest 3 ?🤔
Strange resultat, I'm skeptical to be honest. From personal experience I feel like Quest 3 has a tiny bit bigger FOV.
These results are true for my headshape and IPD. They might be different for yours!
FoV is so individual, based on headshape and eye distance. Other UA-camrs report Quest 3 having more FoV than PSVR2.
I can't see those variables making that big of a difference. Especially if the screens are just bigger on the PSVR2.
Final decision for strictly pcvr gaming, are you picking psvr2 or Quest 3?
PSVR2 for me.
@@unbalanced88 Q3, because you don’t HAVE to stick to PCVR. Some MR stuff is pretty cool!
Play some blade and sorcery no wire and its so enjoyable
Both, Q3 main for freedom. PSVR2 for everything dark and seated.
While i appreciate the fov comparison here, it really comes down to:
Do you wanna be wired or wireless? I’ve had OLED Rift cv1 and Valve index. Now Quest3, and when playing pcvr games nothing compares to not having a tether.
I see the value in this headset, especially if it’s one of your first forays into PCVR, but this console war mentality BS in the comments was never here till Sony entered the arena. Cant we all be happy this gaming landscape is getting more ppl to enjoy it?
The theoretical graphics quality of the best wireless is 1200 mbps, display port is 40gigabits per second. A difference of about 30x.
@@bumpsy2358 it really doesn’t look 30x better though you know? Now, I’m still on a 3090ti, so I don’t get the maxx on VD from the new codec, but I still gotta say, the freeing of no wire is worth it. Now if simming, sure wire away, you’re not moving much
wired is always better
But PSVR has trash lenses
no it doesn't
@@user-zc9zt2vl5s It uses fresnel lens
I tried it lastnight on my 4070 and the picture was crisp. I'm starting to think this talking point about lenses is bull.
@@FurBurger151 it is bs. PSVR2 is awesome!
@@FurBurger151 You have never tried quest 3 lenses didn't you? I had quest 2 for long time, and I thought the lens are crisp and it's not that bad how some were sayin'. But now, I have quest 3, and the lens are much better. It's hard to describe if you don't try it. I also was one of those people who thought the lens debat is bullshit.
To bad about those lenses though and lack of wireless streaming.
Have you used psvr? Resident evil village blacks are insanely black. Quest 3 is great tho.
I still to this day think even my Rift CV1 had a better sense of immersion than my Quest 3 because of the just super contrast, deeper blacks, and better colour. So, if PSVR2 is as good as that and better, it will wipe the floor with Quest 3 in that regard imo. And I actually noticed it most when watching 3D movies, where they were suddenly just not as stereoscopic 3D in my Quest 3 than I'd been getting on my Rift CV1. OLED absolutely makes a difference.
@TommyBull2 yes I don't talk on anything I don't own, I couldn't even finish resi4 because it was a blurry disaster
@TommyBull2 of course I was one of the dumb asses to buy it at launch, it's a paperweight now lol, my quest 3 blows that garbage out of the water just the facts
