Master your Sony A7IV! The responses have been amazing so I reduced the price of the Menu guide that walks you through every setting on the A7IV, how to use it, and my tips and tricks for how to customize everything: www.danwatsonstudios.com/products
Also, if you would like to access my RAW files, edited images, and have access to insane cars photographed with every camera including the A7IV, I'm posting new shoots every week! patreon.com/DanWatson
I'm 2 days away from 2024 and I'm still shooting on a Nikon D3100 cause I can't afford anything else.
Why do I want one A7IV? Because I need to step up to stay in the game, and also because I want to work with video.
Sir I switched from nikon to sony system after launching a7iv. it is an amazing piece of gear in term of many reasons good in af, lowlight videos and more customizable
It’s been my camera for most of the year and I love it. I don’t really have any complaints about it though.
It delivers in basically every scenario I put it in.
Sony if you’re reading this the only way I’m upgrading is 8 stops of IBIS and a global shutter lol.
It would have to be immense because the A7IV keeps up with me.
what's the coupon code? thanks!
As one of the early adopters that bought an A7 gen 1 back in 2013, I'm so happy to see how much Sony's ecosystem of lenses have grown and matured. I just ordered an A7iv 👍
How can we trust you? One week the Sony is never leaving your bag, the next is the Panny S5ii all filming the same car shots? Funny how when you have a sponsor and a affiliate link it becomes your fave camera. I'll be honest i'm on the fence with both cameras and 'reviews' like this don't really help.
I currently use the A7IV as my personal photo camera and youtube studio camera...but that's personally. But I'm often using other cameras for testing, comparisons, lens tests, and sometimes just because that camera has a feature I like. The fact that I personally own a camera does not mean I can't recommend something else or that you shouldn't purchase something else. I did create a Panasonic video last week that was sponsored by Panasonic as it clearly said which is why that wasn't a "review"...just my favorite features from using it. I do have a Panasonic S5II REVIEW from last year that was not sponsored and is very unbiased. Any titled "REVIEW" will NOT be sponsored especially by a camera manufacture but occasionally (it's pretty rare actually) I will get a video sponsorship request by a manufacturer so I'll use those videos just to show off unique aspects that make that camera cool to use or just use them for a cool shoot. Although even in those sponsored videos I try to NEVER pass over any big negatives or promote anything I wouldn't and haven't personally used. I love affiliate links because they are the most unbiased way to still earn a couple dollars and create youtube content. You can use that same link and buy a Sony, Canon, or Panasonic camera...it makes absolutely no impact on me! So I will never have a favorite camera because of affiliate links. But just because I own an A7IV for example, doesn't mean I wish it didn't have open gate and 6k which are awesome features on a Panasonic!
I also test cars professionally so I drive a TON of cars that I love and some I don't and then get back in the Tesla Model Y Performance I own personally and drive home. Because I personally own a Tesla doesn't mean I can't evaluate a Porsche or Mercedes. Same with a cameras. My wife actually personally shoots with Canon (she's a wedding/portrait photographer) but she'll also shoot Sony, Nikon, and Panasonic if there is a new Camera/Lens she wants to test or if there is a feature that works better for the shoot. I also personally use a PC but tend to edit on a mac and personally use an android as my daily phone but use an iPhone for most business work so I'm all over the place lol. Sorry for the long response but your comment deserved a proper explanation because I always to be trustworthy...even if a video is occasionally sponsored
Thanks for taking the time to give such and in-depth reply. I do like your videos and am interested in your opinions hence the reason for the frustration. I shoot both Panny and Sony BTW :P . You'll appreciate people are always looking for 'the best camera' and I just think it would be nice for you to say "this is the camera I use every day but today i'm testing this one" it would just help people a lot and help clarify things. @@learningcameras
"How can we trust you?" Brah, are you serious? Who hurt you?
If this review doesn't help, watch another one and another one if that helps. Part of being an educated consumer is absorbing enough information to help you make an educated purchase. Or how about this . . . go do a local camera store and try the camera you're most interested in buying. Does it fit well in your hand, does it balance well with the lenses you intended to use it with, are the lenses of your choice readily available. Try the competitors and ask yourself the same questions. Better yet . . . the A7IV and its nearest competitors (e.g., Canon R6 mk II) have been around for a long while, you should be able to rent them and try them out in real life shooting scenarios. If you trust no one else, at least you can trust your own real world experience with the hardware.
@@learningcamerasDan, you don’t need to defend yourself.
Your expressed views are subjective and should be regarded as such.
The market is flooded with technical offerings so Sony does not have to be everyone’s preferred choice.
@@808islandlife_HI Thanks Brah, I already own both and are happy with them
a7s4 is coming, I can feel it, mmmm nice. A74 the best camera on the market for its price
I have the A7 IV since Feb 2022. I love this camera. The only thing I do not like is the "RollingShutter". I think late 2024 there will be an A7 V with less RollingShutter, 4k60 without crop and more AI Features. That would be great. Greets from Germany
The AF never missed, really ? I've been using the A7iv for runners with the 70 200 f2.8 GM2. Tracking of the face in the EVF is excellent. But focusing is another story. As an example, I have 2 pictures of a girl running, both are misfocused. When checking the pics on the camera, it shows that focus area was next to the head once and next to the knee the other time. This was using spot tracking on the face. Since wide area has been a disaster, I'm now using zone or fixed spots which seem to be somewhat better. I would agree though that the A7iv is very good for portrait or landscape.
So in my example...I'm saying that I use autofocus to record me in my studio videos for youtube...in that situation I literally don't think it has EVER missed. But that doesn't mean it can't miss in other situations. But I have used a variety of cameras over the years to record me in my studio and I think Sony is the only one I've never put to manual focus because I'm that confident it won't miss
Looking at getting this camera to replace my Nikon D5100. Great video!
Awesome! Appreciate it
I do real estate photography, looking to get a massive upgrade from my 12 year old Nikon D3200.
Need a wide angle lens for real estate
A well rounded lens for general photography: Events, family portraits, individual portraits, etc.
And one lens for nature photography, ideally one for taking pictures of the stars (for my own personal use)
Watcha recommend?
Nice! You're looking for those lenses to go with the A7IV right? For a wide angle for real estate, this is my favorite: bhpho.to/3LfpDtD
For general photography, I'm a fan of the Tamron 28-75: bhpho.to/3vI52JW
Hey Dan. Thanks for the video…Would you recommend this camera for an enthusiast or you would rather direct on to another one?
Great camera for an enthusiast. Another one I'd consider is the Canon R6II. If you need 4k60, the Canon is better but if that doesn't mean much to you, go with the A7IV. Sony has more lens options too and it can shoot 4k60, it just does it with a crop
This video alone is selling me right now.
Hahaha... awesome
yeah kinda lost why they so much cheaper makes me skeptical lol even on amazon they doing 180£ vouchers off these atm makes it so tempting
Hey, great video. So I’m in the market for my first professional camera to take photos and some short video for my new business. I’m an absolute novice. I’m going to be shooting around my farm/tree nursery for social media and content for my website. Do you think the A7IV is a bit much for what I need it for?
Awesome! I think you would be fine with something like the Sony a6700: ua-cam.com/video/cgGE843AHN0/v-deo.html
and that should give you some leftovers for lenses. But if you start getting into more professional events where you need dual card slots and higher end hardware, the A7IV is your ticket
I appreciate it. Going to pick up the 6700 model. Any specific lens you recommend that is decent for both picks and video? Two lenses in the packages are the 16-50 or 18-135. Or go with something else? Cheers
@@MrPink-ui3mz Those are good general kit lenses but when you are ready to move up in quality, this is an amazing zoom lens: bhpho.to/3OeefQA and this is a great general prime lens: bhpho.to/3pSWJsv
If you have a different budget let me know
Hello new to your channel; what is the update to this camera and if so I'm looking to purchase a Sony not sure if I should go with this one OR go with another one. I mostly capture events/concert professionally.
Hey! Are you capturing video or photo? The issue right now with Sony is most of their cameras are either more photo geared or video geared but if you need a hybrid camera, they tend to have limitations. The A7IV is one of the best for the price though and would be solid for photos especially. For video the only big weakness is you can't shoot slow motion 4k60 in full frame
hi, nice video! question: your photo’s of the cars do have such a HDR look, do you use 3 or 5 photos and stich them together? or just one, and edit?
Just a single edit! Most cameras these days have a ton of dynamic range and in my lightroom preset pack, there is a subject isolation preset that applies multiple masks automatically with a single clip to help level the exposure between the subject and background for a little extra pop
do you have more info about this lightroom preset?
@@basgestel Absolutely! And here's a coupon code for 20% OFF if you want to pick them up: dansfan20
www.dan-sally.com/product-page/phoenix-extended
i have the package, bur which filter can I use to get the result?
@@learningcameras
@@basgestel Awesome! So combine the "subject mask" filter or "portrait mask" for portraits with any of the other filters and you'll get the result I'm talking about. The Subject mask and Portrait mask filters automatically create AI masks on your image to lighten and enhance your subject while isolating the background and tuning the sky. You can edit these individually afterwords if the effect is too strong or not strong enough
what one lens is recommended for sony A7C Mark II? my needs are for travel, videos and photos.
Thanks for helping me
So just keep in mind that 1 super zoom lens is not going to give you the quality of 2-3 more specific lenses. My favorite general zoom lenses are the Sony 20-70: bhpho.to/3QYC4wa and the Sigma 24-70: bhpho.to/3ZDpN2S
@@learningcameras Ok, Thanks 👍🏻
I'm looking to film gym Content(Short format) what lense would you recommend me to buy!.?
A 24mm prime lens would be great for that! If you can afford it, this is the one to buy: bhpho.to/4cdM4Lk
what lense did you use for those car photos?
I use either the 50mm F1.2 or 24-70 F2.8 GMII for most of my car photos
I’m looking to buy a Sony camera that does photography and video. I don’t have a budget. Me and the wife will be traveling a lot. What camera would you recommend? Would the Sony 7iv be the best fit for? And I forgot to mention I would be a beginner at this. So I want a camera that is going to suit me in the long run.. and what lens do I need.
Awesome! Yes, the A7IV is great with the exception of slow motion video which does have a crop factor. So if you think you might want to shoot more slow motion video, that's where the Canon R6II edges ahead. But either of those are amazing cameras that will serve you for the long run. Sony definitely has more lens options though and this would be a great first lens because it offers great image quality with a solid range for travel: bhpho.to/3QYC4wa
@@learningcameras 📸 thank you so much..
Lost me at “its second to none”
I was talking about the sensor specifically and at this price, I maintain you will not find a better sensor
What's better?
isnt sony burst just 12bit instead of 14?
If you want 10fps in H+ yes, but 6-7 fps in a high burst is 14bit
Can you pin me for no reason?
Nope!
@@learningcameras damn…
Looking to get into automotive cinematography and this will be my first camera I will be purchasing near future. The amount of features and understanding everything about it is a bit overwhelming, but I really appreciate this review and am definitely ready to jump into this field 🔥
That's awesome! Feel free to hit me up with any questions
A7IV is awesome..sure the A7V will be as well with updated performance AF, AI dedicated AF etc...they better put the Tilt/Flip screen from the A7R/A93 and maybe the body design of the A93 going forward that should be the standard now..the A93 body has slight curves, better grip, better "shutter button" layout..all around better ergonomics and much needed update that Sony Finally!!..made..haha sure the A1 Mark II will have the similar A93 body which will be great..
A potentially GREAT camera, but why didn't they allow 7K open gate (or oversampled 6+K in 16:9 aspect ratio)??? And no waveforms!!! The FX30 came in $700 less (if my math is correct) but it had timecode in through the multiport. And the overheating... Personally, I could live with the aps-c crop in 4K 60p, as I have some Sony aps-c crop lenses already (for my a6500, a6000, and a5100), plus the dynamic range of the a7 IV even in crop mode is supposed to be awesome.
So the overheating is because the A7IV is a 7k oversample without any active cooling like the FX30. Hopefully Sony does what Panasonic did with the S5II and put hidden active cooling in the camera. Not sure why Sony doesn't allow open gate yet...maybe to protect cinema cameras and I'm guessing the lack of waveforms is for a similar reason. But you can always use an external monitor to get waveforms. The FX30 is a great camera although I hear mixed feelings about the low light ability
@@learningcameras Thanks, Dan. I was kind of ranting, so didn't really expect a reply, but appreciate your thoughts VERY MUCH!!! Yeah, it seems like Sony wants very much to keep their alpha lines and cinema lines separate. I mean, the a7S III lacks an external time code input (unless you dedicate an audio channel to time code), and no waveforms either :( And regarding the FX30,if only it had open gate... If the legendary Agent 86 Maxwell Smart were looking at Sony's lineup of cameras, he would hod up his fingers about two inches apart and say, "Missed it by THAT much." RIP Don Adams
Many thanks for the comprehensive reply . much better than a Sony rep at a local dealer in Dublin Ireland
Absolutely! Haha, that's rather unfortunate
Ahh shut up, i was looking reviews about sony A7IV and wondering that you could have this video, i scroll down and you post this 2h ago. I mean so crazy when this happens. You are the monster!
Hahaha...that's awesome!
My work camera. I might replace it with an A7CR, except I'm already frustrated with how cumbersome RAW files are.
Appreciate you doing this video in recent times. It may be "old" but I'm just now able to purchase one. Looking forward to starting this review and seeing what you have to say. Cheers!
Awesome!!! Enjoy it
old? it doesn't even have a successor yet.
@@kingghidorah8106 Hence the parenthesis. " "
@@kingghidorah8106rumoured now to be released very soon.
i want the A7M4 because
- no A99II are left that aren't used listed for less price than the release value (scalping)
- the fantastic A7III can't use la-ea5 so I would be left with a center only af area of 15 points
- the A6700 is not a true photo camera, it's a video camera with photography gimnicks like a 1/4000 shutter curtain limit and 11fps in a time where it could do at least 13 and reach 1/8000 mechanically
- the A7C same but worse because it has a single curtain, making your background blur circles look like rising suns instead.
im super excited for this! just got this and its my first camera!!
Are you happy with it?
Dope how do you like it.?
Happy new year Dan, wish another prosperous year to you! Which body is the best low light across brands, in high and mid range budget? There are so many in the market now, and so confusing. Thank you!
Appreciate it! Same to you. So it used to be that Sony had a massive lead in this area and now the pack has narrowed to where Sony is still usually ahead, but others are close enough to not batter as much. Keep in mind that resolution has an adverse effect on low light so more pixels typically means worse low light performance especially if you aren't doing large format printing. If the sensor is a BSI sensor which stands for back side illuminated (like the A7IV), that usually allows you to push low light quality even a bit further. Full frame also makes a massive difference. So anything around 24mp with a BSI sensor is typically the sweet spot for really good low light. Are you mostly or exclusively shooting photos or is video important too?
Thank you so much, I know I never go wrong asking Dan! I mostly do photos, partly because I don’t have a good gear for video. If the camera is good enough, I would love to do some videos too. So if mainly photos, which body should I buy? If both photo and video, which body do you recommend? Thank you very very much again in advance.
@@Yunhaisongtao Absolutely! I'd say the Canon R6II is great as is the Sony A7IV. The only weakness of the A7IV is that it can't shoot full frame 4k60 but it doesn't sound like that will be an issue and Sony does have a great lens lineup so I'd probably lean towards the A7IV and there is a bundle with a bunch of free gear too: bhpho.to/3RTCnZM
Dear Dan , Thank ou very much for your video . This is significantly informative, and helpful. I am in bi of situation, I am student, i owned nikon 3400 and go pro 8 Black. I am not satisfied with them now since i have been using them last 4- 5 years. i want to move to sony and I want to go with either sony A7 IV or sony A7 RV /RIV. I mostly like to do photoshoot (personal use not for wedding or stuff , but portrait and landscape photography) and Video including cinematic travel video and youtube informative channel. Do you think I should get A7IV or ait gather money and get A7RV
THANK you in Advance
Thanks! I think the A7IV is definitely enough camera for what you want to do. The A7RV might be slightly better in a few ways but there is nothing you can't do on the A7IV so unless you have a massive budget, I'd stick with the A7IV which B&H has with a bunch of free stuff right now: bhpho.to/3RTCnZM
Thank you for the excellent review! I just found your channel and subscribed. Long time hobbyist , I’ve been shooting with a 5Dmk2 for years. I finally think I’m updating and switching my gear out for Sony. I mainly shoot portrait and cars (perfect for your sub). Can you please recommend a decent lens for cars and coffee events? Sigma art 24-70? Sony’s GM I? Looking for a good all rounder . The 24-70 2.8 II is my mainstay on my canon currently. Thanks for your help!
Appreciate that! The Sigma 24-70 is an excellent lens and I highly recommend. There is also a version 2 of this lens that just got announced maybe 2 months ago that ups quality and focus motor speed even more: bhpho.to/3WxmFG9
Very Nice Review! I enjoy watching it a lot. But I won't GET it. It has been released October 21th 2021. I will WAIT and SAVE my money to get the Incoming New Sony A7V with all new features this Fall 2024 or early 2025 which will replace this A7IV.
Thanks! Sony has definitely slowed down the pace of updates so I'll be surprised to see it this year. They tend to wait until the next sensor tech arrives and instead, bring out 2-3 different cameras using the same sensor first and I don't see them ready to change. They only just released the A7CII with the same sensor so my guess is 2025 would be more realistic
I loved this vidoe. I found my camera. Thank you.
I love my 7iv I brought the 7iii as a backup and even shooting weddings I never used it then got a job for a company as a tog and they gave me a 7riii and I gave it them back to use my own gear 😂
Haha...nice!
The A7IV is 100% still one of the best and easily keeps up with anything released in recent years.
Agreed. The only major weakness is the lack of full frame 4k60 which Canon's R6II and now Nikon’s Z6III all have
@@learningcameras yes, that part sucks but it really comes down to how often one uses 4K60. I do totally get the negative to that though.
Dan,
Have you any videos on setting up the a7iv on the DJI RS gimbal and tips and advice?
I love the shutter sound from that camera. It's as satisfying as a DSLR 5D mark iv shutter.
Great video! comprehensive and well detailed. What is the lens that you are attaching it to in the vid? the one wherr you placed it on top of the table upside down 😅
Hey so i’m looking around for a grate starter camera to take cool film camera type vibe pictures at my church in dark environments. would this be a good one to start with? if yes what lenes would be good? if not which one would you recommend. budgets around $1000-$2000
Such a cool camera! My dream camera, still on an a7ii
Still on A7R 1 here taking great photos in China
My favorite tech guy 🫵🏿
Big up my brother
Appreciate that!
Dan, thanks much for sharing you thoughts abut a7IV. Wondering, if a7CII would be a better option compare to the a7IV? I love the joystick on a7IV though!
If you just want the camera for casual use...family vacation/memories, the A7CII is a solid option, especially if you want it to be as small as possible. But if you use the A7IV for anything semi professional, the build and features of the A7IV are well worth it
The mechanical shutter limitations on A7C II are terrible. Generates artefacts in your bokeh
I realy wish you reply to my comment by the end of this day..
I need to decide which camera to buy for a 2000 - 2500$ budget, there are tons of options and I've seen many options..
I need a cemera for my work, I have an branding and advertising agency and I need a cemra to shoot photos and videos for customers, might be products photoshooting or a restaurant small film etc.. Just say a name of a camera and I will trust your experience. ✅️🔥
If you want to shoot slow motion video, I'd say get the Canon R6II but if you're fine shooting the majority of video in 4k24 or 4k30, the A7IV has a few extra features
Hello, sir. I'm wanting to purchase the Sony IV and I clicked your link to purchase from BB and it's not showing me any savings. It's the same price that I found before I saw this video. Is this an error? Do you have an actual link where I could save some money?
Unfortunately everyone dropped the sale price last week. Right now the best deal is a kit with a bunch of extras for the same price as the A7IV body only: bhpho.to/3RTCnZM
hi my name is Aviv this is my first full frame camera should I buy it it's for work I'm thinking I'm opening a new job a second job will be the first job I have a computer guy technician guy which lens do you recommend and do you recommend this camera I'm looking to do weddings work commercials anything UA-cam you name it so I need your honest opinion should I buy this camera and if I buy it which lens should I buy with thank you and have a nice day
Hey! So really the only weakness of this camera is the lack of full frame 4k60 so 4k60 (slow motion) will be at less quality and if you want to shoot wide angle slow motion, you will need an APSC wide angle lens. Other than that, this camera is perfect. If you do shoot 4k60 slow motion quite a bit, I'd get this instead: bhpho.to/3NpsSB1
Help please. I have an a7.4 but am photo centric. I have recorded 4k clips which play back on camera but not on my Windows pc . A corei9 pc with 64gb ram. Any suggestions welcome please
The camera can record in XAVCS that should play back decently on a windows PC and XAVC HS which won't play back well on anything but the latest PC's with better h.265 acceleration. Processors struggled with h.265 (10bit XAVC HS). The first computer to deal with it well was Apples M1 chips but Intel is finally supporting it better in the latest versions. But with older chips...even heavy duty i9 chips, you may need to use 8bit instead of 10bit because hardware acceleration for 10bit is newer tech
Great video! Would you say this camera is a good one to travel with? I currently have a Canon 5D mark IV- but no way am I traveling around with that honking beast 😂 (I’m going to Asia next month)
thanks so much!
Hey! So the A7IV is a solid camera for travel and definitely smaller than the 5D lol but, the A7CII is essentially the exact same camera as the A7IV in an even more compact body so if travel is what your after, check this one out: bhpho.to/44LchNn
The only downside to the smaller body of the A7CII is you lose things like dual card slots and the A7IV has a higher resolution and larger viewfinder
Would this lens Sony 16-35mm vario-tessar t fe f4 work out for photos ? or will it be cropped, not truly 16mm?
Anything that says "FE" in the lens title will work in full frame for photos and video with the exception of 4k60 which will be cropped. So yes, this will actually be a true 16mm in photo mode
HI Dan, what lens are you holding in the video? I am looking for a used wide-angle zoom. Senior on a budget. Thanks. Sunny
It was the Sony 24-70 F2.8 GMII which isn't exactly budget friendly so I'd look at the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8: bhpho.to/3vI52JW or Sigma 16-28 F2.8 if you want a very wide lens: bhpho.to/42qFn41
Hi which lens would you recommend to pair with the a7iv for street photography? Thank you
A 35mm lens is my favorite for street photography (this is a good one for under $1000: bhpho.to/3L36jzJ ) or a 50mm if you prefer to stay further away from subjects (my favorite: bhpho.to/3TwQqVR ) and then I'd pair that with a 20-70mm when you need the zoom range: bhpho.to/3QYC4wa
Nice job. Thanks. Can this camera send out a clean non-raw hdmi signal, as well as record a non-raw signal simultaneously? I'm primarily going to be using two of these for podcast interviews...maybe with 85mm lenses. Wanting to streamline the post process.
Thanks! Yes, you can record a clean HDMI out while recording video internally
Something that the A7 IV lacks that most other pro and enthusiast cameras have is focus bracketing.
It's something I personally don't use so I tend not to notice but I know it can be important for macro/product so I need to check this more often
RELEASE THE 85 1.2 GM SONY!
I just purchased this camera to record soccer games. Which lens would you recommend? I’m new at this lol
This is going to be very dependent on budget. A good starting point is the 24-105: bhpho.to/3Pfa9Zb and a better long lens for soccer without being too expensive is the Tamron 70-180: bhpho.to/3wNoLbZ but if you want image stabilization, you need the Sony 70-200: bhpho.to/3tL5xlq
Dan! Which sensor image do you prefer for 4k34p? A7IV or a7siii
If you're shooting 4k30 or 4k24, the A7IV does have a bit more detail since it's oversampled and you have an APSC crop mode. The issue is that it overheats more easily because of the oversampling and isn't quite as good in super low light as the A7SIII. For photos, definitely get the A7IV and for higher frame rates like 4k60+, definitely get the SIII
9:36 Hi! Any lens recommendations for studio photography? A small space!
I love a 35mm focal length for studio in a small space. Pretty much all of my videos are shot with this lens: bhpho.to/428pO1L
Sony makes a higher end GM lens as well which I have reviewed: ua-cam.com/video/kYHuFp8iJ5c/v-deo.html

Thanks for the video. As a very happy A7.4, stills mostly, owner I embraced Tamron Lens (17- 28, 28-75 G2, 50-400, 70-180 mk1and Sony 85mm /1.8). Love to know yours thoughts on Tamron image quality vs native Sony
Absolutely. Tamron is definitely the best bang for the buck. Sony cameras tend to be a bit sharper in the corners especially, can autofocus at faster speeds, and usually have more hardware features. I've used Tamron for years and been very happy with them and only the best of Sony's lenses actually improve quality in a noticeable way
@@learningcameras thanks for the input . useful for all Sony users
Im considering switching form nikon to sony for weddings, are these cameras still having an over heating issue or has that been pretty much squashed now?
They suffer in direct sunlight for sure but even in general, the A7IV is oversampling from 7k so it's using a ton of processor power without any cooling so they do overheat fairly quickly compared to something like the Panasonic S5II which is probably a better option if you are shooting video only. The autofocus on the A7IV is better as are some photo features but the Panasonic S5II or S5IIX make up for that with some insane video features like 6k and open gate recording
Ah thanks for the reply. I mainly do wedding photography along with other still work and may do simple highlight video of a wedding here and there. Would u recommend it for this?
@@CalebStewartPhoto Yep, the A7IV would be fine for this. The only big issue with the A7IV is that 4k60 is cropped so if you want slow motion video, you don't get full frame unlike the Canon R6II and Nikon Z6III
Hi, those photos @ 1:58 ... with flash or natural light ? (sorry for this question)
Natural light...the A7IV has tons of dynamic range so it's easy to make them look lit
Trust yourself and get whatever camera you want. The bottom line is the A7IV is a beast of a camera. Other cameras are great as well.
I’ve looked into this camera and it’s great but with the rumors of the sony a7v coming out possibly this year should I wait or is the sony a7iv here to stay?
I highly doubt we will see an A7V this year. The A7IV is too new and the updates would be pretty minor. I think we are looking at another year at least so I wouldn't be waiting
@@learningcamerasand the price difference won’t make it worth it
What was the lowest sale price at Best Buy?
$2299 and it's back at that price! go.magik.ly/ml/1z2n4/

please tell me, is it normal for the camera to get very hot while shooting video? This worries me very much, how long can the camera work like this and not break from the heat.
Yes, this camera does heat up quickly mostly because it is oversampling from 7k which is insanely processor intense. There is a setting in the camera to shut down the camera when it starts to overheat to keep it from getting too hot or you can set it to let the camera heat up a bit more in order to keep it running which could be more risky. You shouldn't overheat the camera in 1080p but 4k gets hot fast
@@learningcameras Thanks for the reply!
Yes, but I need the camera primarily for video with the prospect of future photo shooting and in high temperature mode it worked without problems for up to an hour of continuous video recording in 4K and that suits me quite well. But the fact that it is VERY hot is not very satisfying, will it fail with such use.
@@ВладКрасный-з6к Sony unfortunately doesn't have a great option for that... you will want 2 separate bodies. For video, you can get the Sony FX3 or FX30 that won't overheat, and then use the A7IV for photos with the option of using it as a backup video camera. Hybrid cameras are a weak point for Sony at the moment, especially if you need the video to work in demanding use cases
@@learningcameras thanks a lot
how does this compare to the a7III for car videos?
The A7IV is significantly better for video so I would highly recommend getting the A7IV: bhpho.to/3RTCnZM
@@learningcameras i am thinking of getting a7siii instead of both of these actually
What camera are you using to record here 0:03
The overhead camera is a Canon R7 but all the other shots are the Sony FX3
@@learningcameras thank you so much. Working on purchasing a Canon R8 to start my photography journey
This is easily one of the best reviews I ever came across on this camera.
Appreciate that!
I found my copy of the A7Iv unreliable and not fit for professional use due to its overheating. Even when setting up Menus it overheated with the high temp setting. I guess I got a bad copy. I returned it and stuck with my A73. No overheating issue for you, Dan?
The A7IV does oversample from 7k so it overheats faster than my A7SIII that's only 12mp, but indoors, I don't overheat in my studio and I shoot for around an hour (make sure to flip the screen away) although outdoors on a hot day I can absolutely overheat it in about 30-40 minutes or faster if it's direct sunlight. But I tend to use the A7IV mostly as a photo camera and for studio video/interviews which are usually temp controlled. The A7SIII is my goto outdoors when I'll typically be shooting 4k60. I do wish we could have a non oversampled mode (the Canon R5 does this) for those times you need well over an hour of 4k and don't mind sacrificing some detail
What lenses would you recommend to shoot interior photos and videos as well?
I have just ordered my sony a 7 iv 🤩
Thank you! 🤗
Absolutely...lenses really depend on budget but some of my favorites that aren't crazy expensive are this Sigma lens for wide angle: bhpho.to/42qFn41 and here is another solid general zoom option that's also on sale: bhpho.to/3vI52JW
Both of those are great quality and have a wide aperture which helps with indoors where it usually isn't as bright
