    When it comes to top handle chainsaws, I would apply common sense. If I am a homeowner, who may use a top handle chainsaw once or twice a year, the electric chainsaw may be the better option. If the electric saw sits for a year or two, It will still run without issues. Batteries may need some TLC at times, however. If I did tree service cutting for a living & my top handle saw may be used daily or multiple times per day, I would lean towards the gas powered unit. Mixing some gas might be easier than maintaining batteries Most likely, the gas is already there for the larger saws. It's not about which saw is better? It's about which saw is the best for your situation? If a company gives you them for free, own both! 🙂

    Very cool and handy saws. That DCS-2500 is impressive! The break in period is about the only thing I'm not crazy about with Echo. But they last and last, so guess I'll deal with that in trade for a long service life😁

      Indeed. I am not sure it really is a drawback. I think really the only person it hurts is when you have expectations right? I think that the saws run well and really start to open up. Also, you know I have said this many times. They take some time to properly get hot enough to run at their peak as well. Thank you AP for watching another sir!

    👍👍 very interesting and surprising. I think you’ll find the 2511 will smooth out with more chain speed, even with the 3/8 lp. Would be interesting to see how much quicker it is with the nano chain.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  2 місяці тому +2

      Indeed! We all know the story on ECHO, run the crud out of it and it finally loosens up a bit. From testing perspective, that makes is very hard to show their actual capabilities as it would take a TON of cutting to get through 10 tanks or so on the 2511T. I am super excited to test the Nano Chain and has Indiana Doug commented earlier, there are even more chain variations out there but I cannot say that I know enough about it to really shed light on it.
      It is interesting that ECHO has a separate PN for the 3/8 (2511T) and the nano .325 (2511TN). This 2500T is so good, if the Nano chain proves to be beneficial, I wonder if the the 2500 could be converted too. Things I will try to find out!

    the reason I’ll never buy a battery top handle saw is because I work in 80-100 temps regularly during the summer. Now before anyone jumps on me I own many chainsaws and various brands (Husqvarna, Stihl and Echo). I occasionally have trouble with all of them from hot starts to stupid little quirks. When a battery saw overheats or is worked too hard they can shut down for a while. Both battery and gas saws can be pushed too hard and bog the saw where the chain freezes up so unless you have a very high torq saw, they both will do that. Batteries are close to being as good but likely 5 years away before I ever consider buying one. They are nice in the sense there is no warming up or pulling a starter cord.

      Great comment! I have a story about this very thing that I want to share and it is inspired by your comment. So, I was doing some concrete work and I was the cut man for all of the forms. It was HOT! I had always used corded circular saws on the jobsite but personally I have used cordless for years. Well, we got the Milwaukee left blade saw that was similar in size to a worm drive Skill saw. It worked Fantastic! Unit the heat came. You see, we have probably 10 batteries out there cause all of our trucks had all Red Cordless tools. Our impacts, water pumps, drills, recip saws etc were all Red. That saw was great until I was needing to do repeated rip cuts in 2by material. In nice weather, the batteries were fine. In the hot weather, they were getting too hot and we couldn't get them to cool down enough to charge. I had them in the shade on the concrete to try and suck some of the heat of out them. Great comment!

    I think your delay on the electric ECHO is most likely a soft-start feature. My electric Atlas unit I bought from HF has such a feature and I wouldn't be surprised if the offerings from EGO, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita and GreenWorks has it as well. Because the electric chainsaws tend to be aimed at home owners who use them intermittently for small jobs they're designed to "start gently" so there's no surprises to the user. Especially if it's someone who has never used a chainsaw before. That's just my thoughts on it.
    I will agree with your sentiments that the electric saws are not exciting to use because there is no crackle of a 2-stroke in your hands. But they are quick and convenient if you have a fully charged battery and you needed to cut something small without waking the neighbors. There is also no warmup time needed and you're not worrying about weather or not it'll start for the season. You just click a battery in and it works. Which makes them perfect for home owners who don't cut stuff constantly.
    Of course they'll never be a full on replacement for 2-stroke saws. But they're good to have for places that have noise issues or don't allow fuel powered equipment.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  2 місяці тому

      Love you comment! It could very well be a soft start type thing. I think many times soft start is on larger DC brushed motors and I am not sure about brushless because if I recall correctly, they are actually AC motor with a DC/AC conversion going on in the speed control. I know that in the RC car world, some of the early brushless stuff also had the hesitation but again, I do not know enough about any of it to really have an answer. I really thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!

    I remember that back before Zenoah was bought by Husqvarna, they had a 22cc saw that was advertised as the worlds, smallest saw. Does anyone know about that saw? Was it lighter than the CS-2511T? Is it still made? The only Zenoah equipment that I have ever had is my unkillable stringline trimmer, that lightest and best small engine power equipment I have ever owned. And I have owned a lot!

      You are correct- there WAS the smaller and lighter saw and it also had less cc’s. The 2511 is usually carefully called “lightest in North America / Europe / market” when it is said about emission controlled markets.
      But it’s no lie - it is the lightest one you can normally buy.

      Wow! Even smaller than I remembered. A few years ago, I bought a Honda trimmer that is a lot bigger and heavier but doesn't have the guts of the old Zenoah when cutting blackberry bushes and other hard tasks.

    I wonder if Echo is running the same antiquated electric technology as Husqvarna is on the T545i? In that regard Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee have them beat hands down.
    Still neat units and I haven't met a saw yet that I would toss in the garbage!

    • @oakiewoodsman

      Brushless tech has certainly gotten better over the years. The question I have is this. In many drills, there is a need for super low speed, responsive switched and speed controllers. The ECHO and Husky one could be less sensitive to throttle position and I think that could be ok because in general, they do not require the same throttle modulation that a drill would. Of course, the tool makers have all the stuff to do it and they have battery tech and production scale down! Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

    What is it with this younger generation's fantasy with these chain brakes? We never had chain brakes in my day, and never had a problem.
    You just learned to stay the heck out of the way of the saw in the event of a kick back.
    Did I ever have a kick back? Sure; and the saw just went over my shoulder.
    Now in my later years; I have a few battery operated saws. Some of them have chain brakes; and I don't know if they even work; and I could care less.
    They must not be all that important; because my 10, 12, and 14 inch saws don't have one.
    But yes; I always wear my seatbelt.

      Please understand I was NOT being critical of YOU OR this video. I just noticed you flipping the chain brake on and off like every other reviewer your age; and I was just being philosophical about today's perception of chainsaws.

      well, I can share with you why that is. If I do not, I get a BUNCH of ppl saying I am unsafe. I had a person unsubscribe because I had a friend running a saw with no chaps on. I have just found for me personally that it is best to do the same thing every time. Muscle memory that is. In fact, right after this, I used these saws in the tree on hooks. I like to certainly keep the break engaged up top. Thank you again

    If I could do life over & lived in a more perfect world, I would pick ONE brand (Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, or whatever trips your trigger) as a young man. If I owned Milwaukee tools, my top handle electric chainsaw would be a Milwaukee. If I owned Dewalt tools, my top handle electric chainsaw would be a Dewalt (or whatever brand I already own). Even if the Echo is slightly superior, I would rather own a brand that matches my current battery packs. I hate my assortment of electric power tools (Craftman/Sears, Masterforce/Menard's, Bauer/Harbor Freight, & various Amazon no name products. I HATE that nothing matches! I hate charging batteries! I hate it! I hate it! Throwing my Poulan, Husqvarana, & Jonsered chainsaws in the back of my Mule along with a can of mixed gas is so much easier. I wouldn't get overly excited about an electric chainsaw. They're all pretty decent. If you already have 5 Milwaukee battery packs for other tools, I wouldn't overlook something like that! I'd rather have the extra battery packs than the new tool.

    • @oakiewoodsman

      Good perspective indeed. What if your chosen platform like mine (Ridgid doesn't have all the cool toys?). That is the hard thing about the cordless tool market. Some of the Milwaukee tools are better than the dewalt and some of the Ridgid stuff is better too. Of course they will all get the job done but that is where the torture sets in of making the best decision possible. That is how I landed on Ridgid. Thousands of dollars in free batteries, and I am ahead. Now, the saw they have is no where near comparable and actually quite expensive when you factor in the battery I run. My 18 Volt 8ah battery is a VERY Expensive beast. Thank you again

      @@oakiewoodsman My perfect battery powered tool world is only a dream. LOL! I sort of lived through electric tools always changing voltages, too. 14.4 V were replaced by 18 V, and then it was 20 V. That sort of marketing even within a single brand annoys me. That's why technology annoys me. I bought my first gas powered grass/brush trimmer in 1994. 30 years later it's still going strong. I can't say that about any of my battery powered tools I bought 30 years ago. I just hate how nothing matches in the battery powered realm. I find satisfaction in taking care of things versus replacing them. I can buy a deer rifle & know it will last me a lifetime. I can't say the same about buying a Chromebook! It doesn't take much to annoy me! LOL! Sorry about that!
