Purchased the Echo 8 months ago. I've run chainsaws professionally for many years. Wear and tear on my arm and shoulder when starting had me checking out cordless saws. We've always used commercial grade Sthils and Husqvarna's so I was a bit concerned about the Echo's performance. That said I'm very impressed, runs like a demon, really as good as your tests suggest. No issues after lots of brush clearing and multiple cords of firewood.

That's what I was thinking. I am actually not much of a tool user (yes, why do I watch these videos? Because you never know, and they're entertaining), but I'm aware that DeWalt has a ton of electric products and their batteries tend to be interchangeable, at least to an extent (I'm not sure what if any restrictions they might have, presumably some batteries aren't designed to be used with some of their tools). Yet I don't recall the Echo brand. Might have seen something of theirs in an older video, but I can't recall. So, the long term availability of their replacement batteries is suspect IMO.

I probably started my last comment with this same sentence: 'I can't say enough how helpful these videos are.' They also show that across-the-board brand loyalty is a potential pitfall; X brand might make the best ( a,b,c) tools and Y brand make the worst (a,b,c), but the Y brand of (d,e,f) tools can outperform brand X's (d,e,f) tools by a mile. This fact speaks to the need to explore various options in a scientific and unbiased format in order to pick the best tool for the job whether your eye is toward overall value, maximum performance, or just what to stay away from at all costs! Thanks so much for all you do, Project Farm! You are a hero to people who buy and use tools that they rely on for their lives and livelihoods! Bravo!

@@SnifferSock yeah I really do like Stihl chainsaws. I now have a new Husqvarna that I purchased a couple of years ago and I say it's new because I haven't run but about maybe a gallon of gas through it. The only reason I changed to husky is because the Stihl dealer here in town has really suck service. Where I bought my first Stihl chainsaw and later weed eater at some 40 odd years ago got too old to deal with everything and sold the store and they decided on not carrying outdoor power equipment anymore. I still have that old 028 and an old 031 or 3 2 but they need gas line filter assemblies and they don't make them anymore. I even told the guy look if you'll do this to fix it and he says we don't jerry- rig. Well I was already down pretty bad in health but I'm getting a little better so I just got to get my glasses on, buy me some tubing, any kind of filter that I can attach it to and I will replace my own gas line assemblies I just hope I can still get a carburetor kit. And unfortunately there are manufacturers that will only agree to make parts for their equipment even like washers and dryers, for maybe 10 years some maybe 15 but then again other companies decide to make Parts on for several more years. So go gas and go Stihl and now that I own a Husqvarna go Husqvarna too! I don't guess I'll be switching to Electric for long time. happy cutting to you! And have a wonderful Christmas!

It's a damn good saw, isn't it! You just need a realistic battery to run it. The 2.5AH battery in this comparison wasn't fair when comparing to the others with 4+ AH. He should have done it on the 5AH battery to at least put it in them middle.

Agree with GitarStu...battery chainsaws perform at optimal power when paired with 4.0-5.0ah batteries. That's because the lower ah batteries operate on a single series of cells while 4ah and above operate on 2 series of cells (in parallel if manufactured properly) which results in much greater power output.

I feel ya. I have the EGO 16 with the 5Ah battery. It feels heavy when you are up in the tree and cutting sideways. So for casual use, combining with the smaller battery is probably the way to go. Based on this review, I am more certain the EGO is among the best performers. I no longer wish to have the Husqvarna and def will not spend up to 3x for the Stihl. I also suspect the chain sharpness and angles might play a big role in the differences in performance. I sharpen pretty regularly and I must say it really does cut like butter!

Just to back up the comments above me, I work for a landscaping/tree felling company and we heavily evalutated the Ego's and the Echo's we ended up going with Echo because they feel more like a typical gas powered chainsaw and we wanted to keep consistent with our crew. However, pretty much everyone loved the Ego's. Overall our call was very close with the deciding thought being that Egos are better for home use since they also have a nice lineup of other yard equipment but Echo was better for commercial use for their slightly better cutting capability, ruggedness, and durability.
In the end though, I don't think anyone should be upset about buying really any battery chainsaw, especially for home owners. They are much easier to maintain, quieter, safer, and all around a better option unless you are looking to be running it all day (even then it might be better) or felling large trees.

Just bought the 16” EGO and was very impressed with its performance. I do agree that a larger battery would be beneficial. I filled about half a truck bed with firewood before the battery died. I then grabbed my dads 20V dewalt and it had nowhere near the power. After one cut we switched to a gas chainsaw to finish up. The EGO cut better and faster than the gas, but that could’ve been due to a newer chain.
