@@CliffGray right on Cliff! For me the 2 eyes open shooting started when I started dove hunting with a shotgun (iron sites). I was having trouble hitting them 1 eye open. With 2 eyes open my dominant eye took over on the target as my left eye kept track of the birds flight. Kinda hard to explain but what a transformation that was. An “eye opening” experience.

In my opinion, I think that the longer you squint, the more likely you are to develop headaches. It may sound stupid, but I bring a patch to cover my left eye while glassing.

Just found your channel and you have a new subscriber. I had to laugh when you pulled out the eye patch because I actually wear one due to a childhood accident, where I lost my right eye. I shoot pistols right handed, but rifle and bows left handed.
On the bright side it saves me money since I don't buy binoculars and monocular is cheaper.

    • @CliffGray

👍 that’s interesting the diff between rifle/bow and pistols… but makes sense!

GREAT VIDEO! Very informative. Starting from the vehicle to the highest mountain top viewing with spotting scopes, you can tell what's what from a h*ll of a long way off. It saves a ton of hiking just to check an area out. Great tips on long term viewing saving your eyesight for shooting. I especially like the eye patch.

Glasses are great but go one step better, paint the lens or use tape to black it out.

Hell I shoot a bow and rifle both eyes open. When u squint you are fatiguing the eye muscles. I got a leg up though cause my right eye is lazy and legally blind so I have a built in eye patch

I like 30x wide angle fixed eyepieces. Makes it so much easier with a much bigger fov. The only ones that compete with a fixed 30x are the meopta 30-60 wide angle and that new zeiss wide angle eyepiece have best of both worlds.

Also learn to shoot a rifle with both eyes open…it’ll help with accuracy. If you have a bikini cover for your rifle scope you can use that to cover one eye.

I've pulled my beanie over my eye before. Worked pretty good once my eye started straining too much.

The only time I pack a spotter anymore is if I’m day hunting from the truck in an area where there’s timber I’m trying to look through for deer or elk. Or if I was ever lucky enough to draw a sheep tag to see growth rings and such. If I’m backpacking in for deer or elk a spotter isn’t worth it, I can tell if it’s a nice buck and needs a closer look from beyond a mile in good conditions. And likewise a good bull from 3 miles or better with a pair of 15’s. It’s not like I need to be able to tell the difference between a 175 buck and a 180 buck after hiking 4-7 miles from the trailhead I’m going to shoot it anyway.

Great video Cliff, I prefer to use binoculars. I get motion sickness when looking thru a spotting scope for a long time.
Not sure if that is a thing other people experience or if I’m just a panzie or with a weak stomach.
With hunting season right around the corner what is on your hunting itinerary this year?

  • @kentrush4519

Do you do the same when looking through your rifle scope

    • @CliffGray
      @CliffGray  2 роки тому +1

I personally don’t. I don’t have the fatigue issue while looking through a rifle scope… just don’t spend hours using it like I do a spotter. Many folks do shoot with both eyes open, including when using a scope. 👍
