should learn the angled side step before the pivot, pivot and shifting is much more complicated even though it streamlines the footwork and in some ways is simplified, but most guys esp people trying to learn dont try this until you have mastered to a t youre regular boxing footwork and step, left foot forward with a jab right foot forward with a right cross, little wider then shoulder width but do what feels strong, and get faster and faster,( that was for ortho for sp just reverse) train the feet first, i know its more fun to throw punches but your hands can catch up, your feet cant catch up with the hands, and im not saying this isnt a great thing to use to take advantage of natural power zones and exploiting them but this is pretty complicated stuff, and for people learning thru th internet and not going to a gym they rarely learn proper footowork, so feet first thats all im saying basic and often so it becomes 2nd nature, look at spence, nothing complicated, just proper blocking and solid feet and no one can beat him, hes a great example of a solid game, parry with his lead, catch with his rear hand, leads with the jab, works the body and goes up and down changing levels and sets up his shots beautifully

M&M Boxing your observations are "Spot On" ! I enjoy watching boxing tutorials but so many times the person communicating the movement or tactic is disingenuous in his communication. Which is what you were explaining here! It always looks easy when the explanation is being performed in front of an opponent whom is standing still. While it is very important to understand how to create angles and be able to fight off of an opponents shoulder what is even more crucial is understanding the proper footwork that moves you into the pocket in order to properly execute the move at the correct distance. Your ability to understand fundamental foot movement is crucial and much as you correctly stated,"train the feet first, i know its more fun to throw punches but your hands can catch up, your feet cant catch up with the hands". Thank you for your astute insight on technical boxing.

Just a thought...I note that you 1/4 turning, then chambering the hook. Is in not possible to move and chamber so that the 1st punch lands as soon as you arrive in the new position? I have to say that I wished I had all this shared info back in my boxing days. It can only accelerate improvement for those that are hungry to learn.

Pacquiao does that. He did in mirrored stance but he still did it against fellow south paw, Diaz.
