I generally really like this channel and have learned a couple of things from it, but this has nothing to do with Lomachenko specifically and it's not true that he does what everyone does, but better.
Actual Lomachenko stuff I've picked up from other sources:
He's not a natural southpaw - he stands like that to have a more equal power distribution in both hands or something. I've never tried that.
He doesn't just throw some punches and change angles. He always secures the superior position before attacking - like a bjj fighter. He throws lots of light punches. This makes the opponent feel like his punches are not dangerous, so they square up a bit in double guard and have less vision. I've actually tried that in sparring. Works even better against amatuers, cause they usually either throw wild punches or just use the double guard. Once they've squared up, you can attack quite easily.
If the opponent is covering his head too tightly, Lomachenko slaps his hand down and then punches into the opening (you have to slap quite hard).
He also often throws a couple of light punches, leaves the last one hanging in front of the opponent's eyes for a second and then changes the position - when the opponent can't see him.
If they try to feel him out with an extended front arm, he slaps that arm down and throws an overhand.
If the opponent tries to close the distance and clinch, so Lomachenko can't punch any more, he puts his forearm on the opponents neck and then circles around him.
I've tried all of the above (apart from the southpaw thing) and can definitely recommend. It's all about securing the superior position in order to dismantle your opponent rather than relying on your timing. It's shown in some other videos on YT. There's even one with Lomachenko showing these himself.

Man this was a great post. Thanks a lot bro, when I discovered Loma he immediately became my favorite fighter of all time and I study him quite a bit and try to add what he does into my game (obviously no where close to his level and what he does is easier said then done lol). But your explanation in detail was great, I appreciate it.

This is some of the best tactical/strategic boxing knowledge I've ever been gifted. It reminds me of so many other fight IQ lessons I've seen or read. The Tao of JKD goes into the beats or breaking rythm like this, but seeing the footwork and linking it back in my head to how Lomachenko fights is so helpful for studying to be a better boxer. Seriously, thanks!

Man I've been watching sooo many of your videos lately. I not a boxer, I'm a Jiu-Jitsu player but I love boxing, I appreciate all the complexities and possibilities of it. I find that Lomachenko has invigorating my interest in boxing so much that I'm seriously thinking about taking up boxing now at 40.
I find your boxing instructions and technique breakdowns amazing and really easy to follow. Thanks for such great content.

I definitely intend to rewatch a few times, thanks coach. PS. I can tell your knowledge and conceptual grasp is growing still because your delivery is phenomenal. Much love

What he will do is leave the glove hanging in the middle of the combination, to block the visibility, skip and finish it from another angle. I would like to see analysis on the risks, benefits and consequences of this.

JT Van V - The thinking man for the everyman and woman who enjoys boxing at all levels....Rhythm & Roll, Rhythm & Release, Rhythm & Distance Control..... The good fighters bring what they got....The great fighters take away what they bring with rhythm..... Fighters in general are strong willed and weak minded.... JT Van V shows us that those who succeed inside and outside the ring must be weak willed and strong minded...Thy will be done... God bless and thank you JT Van V....

  • @jpesmar
    @jpesmar 7 років тому +5

This is amazing. Thank you so much so this video.
What Lomachenko does is extremely simple, in theory. No one could've explained better than JT, it's not that other fighters don't know how to do it, how to mix it up, it's just that it is extremely hard to do it facing pro fighters who also happen to know those things, and that are more than willing to make you pay at the slightest mistake.
I guess that kind of timing and ring knowledge is what comes naturally after almost 400 amateur fights.

  • @masterfireworks1734

I am doing Kung Fu for 8 years and my master teaches us pretty much boxing with sparring since 2 years, because foot work exploits a lot of power in the punches. The full body workouts, coordination and drills are nice. Its always our homework to practice and to develop the combinations. Also shadow boxing is a must.
For me it means to be a complete fighter, if you are open minded and ready to learn and to execute what i have learned.
