DiResta: Hardwood Mallet
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- In each episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy.
In this episode, DiResta makes mallet from hardwood on a vintage wood lathe. The result is a practical piece of art. If you're a fan of woodturning, this episode is for you. Read all about it on MAKE: makezine.com/vi...

Never would have though to turn them at the same time. Well done man.
my heart stopped when he cut the handle from the head on the band saw, but then i remembered jimmy knows more than me...
warren buitandag I thought it looked strange and was trying to work out what kind of mallet it was, and when he cut the head off I was like "Ahhhhh what is he doing!"... But then realised the genius
Oliver Carr
I know right?! lol
+Oliver Carr I've seen woodworking mallets that looked the way before he cut it .
+ranwolf76Those are called carving or setter's mauls. The cylindrical or tapered cylinder head provides more accurate strikes to carving chisels than a flat faced mallet.
Lmao I thought I was the only one 😂
Literally watch one video right before I go to bed because it is just so relaxing to watch this.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Wood turning is one of my favourite things to watch in UA-cam so thanks for this video jimmy
Wow your craftsmen ship blows my mind. I always enjoy watching your channel. Please don't stop.
love watching you work. it's kinda soothing
+Aaron Hydes It's almost like therapy.
I am always in awe because I couldn't do anything like that or any of your other projects. These videos can't come fast enough. I love them all. Signed fanboy. LOL
Jimmy, I don't know what to say but you really did it again!! I love watching all of your video and I love the craftsmanship of yours. Great job!!
Even with the fish eye lens the lathe barely fits in the shot. It was a good way to get us in there to see the work. Great video Jimmy.
Couldn't ask for a better birthday present than a new DiResta video.
This is one of my all time favorites. Excellent!
I think him chiseling out the DiResta thing at the end was more work than him making the actual mallet lol
i REALLY COUNT A GREAT DAY IN TIME WHEN NOT ONLY DO I FIND ONE VID BUT TWO YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Double thumbs up! Nice mallet for some carving!
Excellent work. Fun to watch the process and love the "insect" sounds emitted!! Great!
It will never cease to amaze me how awesome you are
i bet my dad would love one of these for Christmas!
This has moved to my top ten fav vids of yours. brilliant.
You should do a video tour of your workspace, always looks so interesting from the glimpses we see.
wow! it kinda blew my mind when you sawed it in half and it all came together
Ah, my bi-weekly Diresta fix, feels much better now!
Amazing work as always! I would love to see a combo mallet in the sense of it being a wood head but a metal tube for the shaft and then again a wood handle (similar to the hatchet he made). I think that would pretty sweet.
Wow i can not stop watching your videos are a genius, your shop is a paradise your have everything're my idol
sos un geniooo. no puedo parar de ver tus videos. es un paraiso tu taller, no te falta una herramienta
Love watching your videos. They're so relaxing and inspirational.
whenever he does the wood chiseling he sounds like those close up videos of carpenter ants.
Diresta is a badass everything he does.
hah thank you !
That looks very similar to a style of mallets I gave made in the past. Great job!!!
When you cut it, I didn't see that coming. I wish I had a lathe.great vid.
You always surprises me. Thank You.
would be an excellent leather tooling mallet...youre the man, Jimmy!
DAMN, didn't see that coming, you just blew my mind. Awesome !
soy carpintero y me encanta lo que haces un groso. saludos desde argentina
Wow, what an artistic way to convey a skilled "How To" Very Impressive!
another work of art. brilliant!!!
Dear DiResta, i love your videos and what you create... so friggin cool!
I did think it was a weird looking mallet when you took it off the lathe and didnt see the cut coming. I enjoyed it a lot good work!
Thank god. another di-resta vid. i was starting to get shakes from the withdrawal.
nice to have a workshop with all that gear.
Jimmy could you do a tour around your workshop? I know its small but i love to hear about the history of the machine and tools you use. For example do you have some tips and tricks for storage, lay-out etc.
This is one of my favorites. I've been trying to learn how to use a lathe for a while now, and watching the skills you possess on that thing makes me beyond jealous. Great job!
Do you still sell the stuff you make at the Hell's Kitchen flea market?
Appeared to be too much scraping and not enough slicing with the skew and gouges, but the job got done and looks great, liked how you turned the handle and head at the same time. After watching richard raffin, opened my mind to how one can use the skew.
Beautiful. Thank you.
the measuring of the piece while it was on the Lathe was fucking priceless. no way that shit was right lol
Ensina a arte sem dizer uma palavra, esse é mestre!
Absolutely amazing! Great work, as always!
exelente tu trabajo, felicitaciones desde Argentina
Nice job Jimmy.
great work jimmy
You are very skilled love watching all your videos!
Good job you're very flexible. I'm a knife guy too only a couple wall hangers I use (rotate)most all my knives they all have a purpose!keep it up!
That was beautiful!
Dammit your good! I like your videos because they are not an hour long. Very good. Your really really good at what you do
Splendid job as always, and I have to admit, I envy you your shop! :D
Jimmy, my man....i've been drooling for another episode. I crave you all the time, Jimmy. I have an important question to ask you. Jimmy, will you MAKE me?
Here I was thinking he was going to leave it with the cylinder in place on the end. He cut it off and I thought he was destroying his funky whack-y stick!
So the motion of the chisel was smooth and continuous.
Very nice..Thanks for posting..
Nicely done...makes me wish I had a lathe.
Excellent work enjoyed all your videos
Как всегда 100% интриги и 100% удовольствия от просмотра! Голливуд курит! ;) 👏
русский! ;)
This looks great. the fish eye made everything look strange at the beginning.
When you cut the handle off. I was like nooooooo. Then like always.
BAD ASS.
Thanks for the carving tutorial! By the way, Stopping by ChuckE2009 was a great thing to do. His little video of your visit made my day. Don't quite know why. Thanks again for the Art.
Looks awesome.
Gosh I need a new tool... Oh I know! I'm going to build one. AWSOME!!
ha!! thank you for that!
He forgot to put his name on it.

+Tupoelf lmao..he does do that alot.
Brilliant!
Like always with his video you just understand what he's making at the end ! ^^
You sick man! Awesome!
that was pretty awesome!!
DAMN YOU FISH EYE LENS!!!!
can watch u all day long,,better than watching sripers
That was fricking cool!!!
love your work! great!
Hey that´s good, excellent!!
Yup, as others, I nearly had a stroke when you cut the handle off! Then, I went: Ooooh, that what he was measuring... Wondered what the hole was for... Thought you were going to fill it up wi lead or something to give it extra weight. Good vid.
i really like your videos cuz you fast forward it and it makes a nice sound haha
I am very sure that would make the finest "Judges" gavel around.
4:00 That does not look like a mallet
4:20 *confused*
4:40 *mind blown*
This video is awesome!
You are the man!
This is not handcraft but magic!
Amazing!
loved the WD on tool rest...why did I never think of that?????
Bravo!
I wanna do dat kinda shit.
Watching your work is soothing for me.
I still love the fact you wear £4k+ worth of watch in your workshop :D LAD!
Efficient and attractive work, but I have a few comments:
1. Dust control would be a very good addition to this shop. Lungs are not disposable items.
2. Wiping uncured epoxy with bare fingers/skin is not a safe or smart thing to do.
3. I wouldn't have varnished the tenon, thus making it necessary to sand the varnish off again for gluing.
J.D. I could make one of those in my sleep... lol.. Very nice...
beautiful
Nice bit of woodwork.^^ Makes me wish I could use a lathe. :)
awesome... as usual.
amazing as usual!
Great work but lose the lense i really tried to take note (of your amazing work!) and kept losing track
I had no idea what you were doing. I kept thinking "This isn't a mallet!!!!"... but then you cut the handle off ;D
Very nice.
Awesome as usual Jimmy. Fish eye lense makes is all look bowed though
i wish i had alot of tools like you!
