Just as far as this movie, seeing the Burj Kalifa scene + sandstorm chase scene in IMAX (the proper IMAX with the screen that is the size of a building) was utterly mind blowing. They were filmed with IMAX cameras, so when those scenes occured it expanded to the entire screen. When Cruise started to climb out the window for the first time, oh man the depth was jaw dropping.
So true! TBH, I didn't love the first 2 films and merely liked the 3rd. I loved this one and the one with Cavill, and really liked the ones in between. Ghost P is probably my favorite M.I. for the perfect mix of plot, comedy, and action.
Originally, Ving Rhames was meant to reprise his role as a co-star, but he and the studio could not come to an agreement for his salary and the character was written out of the film. During the actual filming process, the movie wasn't quite turning out how the studio wanted it to be and Christopher McQuarrie (who had previously worked with Cruise as a co-writer on Valkyrie) was brought in to doctor the script. He was shocked to find that Luther had been written out entirely with no mention and that Ethan's wife had died off screen between films and was adamant that they both had to be addressed and included, so he wrote the end scene where you find out her death was faked and Luther was protecting her this whole time. My memory is a little hazy, but I do believe that he also wrote the backstory for Jeremy Renner's character being assigned to watch over her and failing as well. If I am remembering correctly, an original version of the script had the character more ambiguous as to being a possible mole within the IMF... something that had already occurred in the first and third film... or becoming the new lead for the franchise. Either way, his character ended up being more fleshed out and giving a backstory as to why he was there in the re-writes, which was not in the previous drafts. While the third film was (personally) the best up to that point, it brought in less money than the preceding two. Some assumed Cruise's career was on a downturn and Paramount actually dropped a production deal with Cruise and his company and did not have intentions to make another film. When this was originally being developed, word was that Cruise would be written out and replaced with a new character (the rumor was that Jeremy Renner, who has received recent praise for The Hurt Locker and would be co-starring in the upcoming Avengers films would be the new lead). Thus, one of the reasons this movie has a subtitle, rather than calling it M:I-4, if they decided to use it as another reboot rather than a direct continuation. Yet the movie ended up with a much higher critic approval rating than the previous three and making $150 million more than the second film (highest grossing at the time) that it revitalized the series and Cruise' status. Christopher McQuarrie would go on to write and direct the first Jack Reacher film and co-write the excellent Edge of Tomorrow film with Tom Cruise and from his success and their relation together ended up co-writing and directing the fifth M:I film. The success of that lead to him returning to solely write and direct the sixth film and now he's finishing up the seventh and eight films in the series.
I love that Andreas Wisniewski (Max's bodyguard in the first movie) is also in this one and gives Hunt a bag to put on his head similar to the first movie. He also told him to look for a Dunhill lighter and in the first movie Hunt was told to have Dunhill cigarettes to signal the meeting with Max!
I think I'm just realizing why I love these movies so much by watching your guys reaction. Ethan is an absolute beast on his own, there's no denying that. Ethan though has no problem working with a team to get the mission done. He doesn't have that lone wolf mentality. Especially at the 41:02 mark where he literally tells the team he can't do it alone. I love that humility.
Nice! This is my favorite one. Though I think Fallout is the best of the franchise. But Rogue Nation has the best story. (I'm all over the place here.)
I feel like I just have to say this as Finnish person😅: The guy who is playing Wistrom in this movie is called Samuli Edelman and he is from Finland. He also has an Finnish accent on this one. He is quite well known actor and singer in Finland. We Finns are usually very broud if some of us succeed outside of Finland (which can be difficult). So it is a huge thing that a finnish actor is in a big Hollywood movie like this😁. And he even has a important role in it as a bad guy.
Ghost Protocol and Fallout are without a doubt my favorite Mission Impossible films, especially the former due to the story and it’s directed by Brad Bird. Also Hi James and Nobu of White Noise Reacts, my name is Ernesto Chacon and I have been subscribed to your channel and your Anime reaction channel since last month and love your various reactions and commentaries on each movie especially the Animated movies from Disney, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, Netflix, and Illumination, while giving fun facts and being so fun and down to earth. Even it's cool that you brought in Hayley and Stella to join in the group. Looking forward to your future Madagascar sequel reactions and hope you get to react to _Monsters VS. Aliens, Abominable,_ the _Kung Fu Panda films, Raya and the Last Dragon, Strange World, Bambi, Dumbo, Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia/Fantasia 2000,_ the _Despicable Me_ and _Minions_ films, _Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Robots, Rio 1-2, The Peanuts Movie_ and _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse._
Simon Pegg’s role getting leveled up per movie is one of my favorite things that has happened since Tom took over producing the movies. Hope he gets some actual fight scenes in the latest one that’s coming soon
I love that Tom always wanted Max the arms dealer from MI:1 to come back, but sadly Vanessa Redgrave didn't want to but they found out that her assistant was available in the area so they got him for that scene.
I'll say it right now, before I watch you watch this, the last 3 films of this franchise are my favorite movie in the franchise. Brad Bird brought a LOT to this series, especially as his first ever live action film. This is the guy that did Iron Giant and The Incredibles. So he gets action and adventure. All the tech breaking goes with the whole idea of them being completely on their own. No IMF, no gadgets, just the 4 of them. It puts the focus onto the team, as Ethan says at the end, the one thing that did work was this team.
This Indian guy is a famous Bollywood actor, and I wish you would recognize him. Several theaters around the world screamed when they saw him in Mission Impossible.
I love the fact that James is soo into these movies and the action, that you can actually feel him, feeling Cruise's pain! 😂 Please do The Incredibles soon, we need an ANIMATORS REACT on that one, especially because of this films director Brad Bird being just awesome!
There's a video of Matt Damon talking about meeting Tom Cruise in the wake of "Ghost Protocol" coming out and blowing any semblance of movie star cool by geeking out about the Burj Khalifa climbing sequence. It's worth watching but if you can't find it Matt said Tom was only too happy to tell him all about how the stunt happened. As Matt told it, Tom said the first thing he did was find the best safety guy in the business, the absolute top guy to lock the stunt down so it could be done safely. Tom had a meeting with that guy and told him what he wanted to do and the safety guy thought about it for a minute and said there was no way on earth to perform that stunt practically and safely and Tom would be insane to even try it. Matt said that Tom then looked him in the eye and said, "So then I got ANOTHER safety guy...." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"what about the people?" fun fact, only 71% of the burj khalifa is accessible to the public (the top 200 meter section is too thin for occupation so it's completely empty). also, it's not connected to the city's waste sewage system so it has to be trucked out manually every gd day
This is just another opportunity for me to recommend my favorite Jeremy Renner movie! I don't care if you guys watch it for the channel or just in your free time...though obviously, I'd prefer to see it on the channel...but if one or both of you hasn't seen it, you should watch Wind River.
This one is still my very favorite one of the series. The soundtrack is fantastic that I had to buy it when it came out. I listened to it constantly for a while. I'm so glad Benji is part of the team. 😁
In Act 3, Tom Cruise running through traffic in India right before he gets to the parking garage and the IMF team chatting it up at the "Fisherman's Wharf" in Seattle where they creep on his wife were both shot in Vancouver. "India" was shot at the Vancouver Convention Centre in downtown Vancouver, and "Seattle" was at Granville Island.
The first live-action feature by animation legend, Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratoutoulle and The Iron Giant). I saw the midnight show in IMAX and was totally mindblowing. The last blockbuster of 2011 and what a way to end the year. From part 3 onward, these sequels stay fully connected (thanks to J.J. Abrams as producer). From part 4 onward, they utilize more IMAX in their sequences. This one definitely proved that Cruise is one of the best actors to ever do action period. The cast (IMF, villains) was great. Especially with Jeremy Renner being super busy between MI-4 & 5, the MCU and the Bourne franchise. The biggest installment of the franchise at the time. One of the best 4th installments ever made.
You forgot so many other movies Michael Giacchino has scored: Zootopia, Ratatouille, Up, MCU Spider-Man films, The Batman, etc. He's one of the greats!
Man this burj khalefa stunt even knowing how much safety was in place still raises my blood pressure and that’s coming from an x sniper whose used to heights, this was a masterfully insane stunt very much appreciated the sideway and downward sprint on the burj it has to be the biggest adrenaline rush of all time.
The whole Ethan climbing the building scene was my fave like watching the behind scenes of that is great 😂 like free climbers have so much strength to do stuff like that.
Bad Robot. We must discuss Alias, the spy action-drama masterpiece that paved the way for JJ Abrams' blockbuster success with Mission Impossible, Star Trek, etc. The show ran for five seasons on ABC, was critically acclaimed, and its success paved the way for Lost. Both shows were scored by Michael Giacchino. Alias featured amazing guest stars including Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), Isabella Rosselini (Blue Velvet), Faye Dunaway (Network, Chinatown), Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Community). Jennifer Garner won a Golden Globe and Bradley Cooper became a huge film star as a result of the show. Alias influenced other spy shows, most notably, The Americans and Cover Affairs. Highly recommend watching it. The cliffhanger endings made me binge the series in a week. The S2 finale features the longest female fight in tv history. Epic.
It was quite the trip watching Anil Kapoor show up in this movie. He used to a way bigger deal in the 90s attracting masses of people to the theaters but his popularity tapered in the 00s. Stil considered one of the greats.
This is my favorite Mission Impossible movie. Ethan flying and running on buildings. Bad luck all mission long and still got the job done. Simply amazing
To me the voice on the phone that tells Hunt his Kremlin mission sounds a lot like the voice that would brief Mr. Incredible before his robot missions in the first Incredibles movie.
I love the team element of the series so much, especially with benji and luthor!! And I totally agree, theres some mishandling of the "love interest" characters at the beginning, but i think from this point on they try to fix that and I appreciate it!
0:19 - People don't like 1?? MI1 is still the best MI of them all: I didn't care for 2 and 3 because it took the least interesting thing about MI1 (The final train sequence) and tried to make the whole movies out of it (Or tried to one up it) when everything before the train sequence was pure gold! MI4 is the movie that finally got me back into the MI movie franchise after two disappointing sequels.(Unfortunately, the sequels after that varied in greatness, with some of them trying too much to jump the shark, but overall, MI$ and up are mostly decent sequels)
12:14 - it was Russian music from 1960s. Hollywood most of the time portrays Russia as Soviet Union of 20ths century. Same old music, uniforms from 1920s, telephone booths that haven't been around since 1990s.
Michael Giacchino has quickly become 1 of my favorite composers as well. I love him almost just as much now as Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL. I love him much more than Danny Elfman. I actually never knew before that he composed for the show Alias, 1 of my all-time favorite tv shows, and Lost (in my top 15 shows). He also composed for some of my favorite movies like The Batman, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek into Darkness, War for the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World, Star Trek Beyond (1 of my favorite Star Trek movies of all time), and Doctor Strange. I never knew that he composed for Jupiter Ascending, which I do not consider a great movie, but was still fun and I think was underrated with great music and great visuals.
Every Mission Impossible movie creates such creative set pieces with so much tension - and despite the almost unbelievable technology involved (looking more like magic than science) the audience can grasp it and knows exactly what's going on.
I've always felt that this movie, started a much cooler vibe in just the storylines and stunts they started doing. The guy at the start of the movie was- Josh Holloway formerly of the series- LOST, I was so happy for him getting a role in it. I was sad they killed him off though. And Agent Carter, is Paula Patton who was once married to singer- Robin Thicke. So looking fwd to y'all watching RN, it's one of my very favorites of the series! 🎉
Allow me to defend any plot bumps; sandy areas (specifically deserts) blow microscopic dust inside of everything and most digital equipment fails randomly, the more precise, the more lazers, the more compressors, the more guaranteed random failure.
I honestly started watching from this one on because of Simon Pegg and went backwards, love it tho! Have you thought of doing the Star Trek trilogy, I watched that for Simon Pegg and enjoyed them, plus he co-wrote the third one :)
Thank you guys for enjoying this incredible franchise. Ghost Protocol is what got me into the Mission Impossible series. It was first film that I watched in theaters and so I had to work backwards in order to catch up lol. I agree with you about Mission Impossible having a space within the industry that fans can be a part of away from the superhero culture. You could say that Mission Impossible helped inspire the Marvel franchise to what it is today along with other action franchises such as Fast & Furious and Terminator. As much as I love superhero movies, they can in fact get exhausting if it’s the only thing you’re watching. That’s why I’ll put on a dumb comedy or a low budget action film to take a break from Spider-Man or else he’ll get on my fuckin nerves lol. Y’all are moving very quickly through this franchise and I appreciate that. You’re not wasting time. It only gets better and better from here which is why I’ll be deeply saddened once the Dead Reckoning films release because after that it’s over.
There isn't supposed to be subtitles on the phone call between the arms dealer and the Russian guy, because your supposed to think the arms dealer is selling Ethan out, when Ethan actually asked him to tell where they are going.
The poisoned ring reminds me of the assassination of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in 1978; it's believed someone associated with the Bulgarian Secret Service killed him with Ricin via a pellet gun hidden in an umbrella.
This was the first one that I really liked, I think Simon Pegg has something to do with it lol. You guy need to check out Red and Red 2, you'll love it.
Paramount and JJ Abrams should let Brad Bird direct STAR TREK They already worked together in this Mission Impossible movie Seriously, I can't picture anyone more suitable than him for the job
I wish someone would let him do his 1906 film. That was part of the reason he did MI4... to get experience in live action and prove to the studio he could handle it.
What a brilliant sequel this is, the variety of locations, the chemistry of the team, the teamwork itself (some of the best in the franchise) and of course the action! The Burj Khalifa sequence is one of the best acts in the franchise. Sucks that Jeremy Renner couldn't return for Fallout onwards due to his MCU commitments at the time. MI3 is still my favourite but this is right up there too along with Fallout. Brad Bird directed The Incredibles then this, two of my most favourite movies. I believe there was also an obscure Pixar easter egg too here? Entertaining reaction overall!
I REALLY LIKED ‘MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4: GHOST PROTOCOL’😆😁. I LOVED THE DUBAI STUNT SEQUENCE WHERE TOM CRUISE IS ON TOP OF THE BUILDING AND IS MOVING FROM GLASS TO GLASS OR WINDOW TO WINDOW🔥🔥. I LIKED JEREMY RENNER AS WELL AND LOVED HIS STUNT SEQUENCE IN INDIA🤩. LOVE YOUR REACTION/ANALYSIS AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK👍
This is it....the full non stop hyped....if u watch this after few years...still feels new and awesome... 👍🏾..and I've 2 way jacket like that .....as the officer uniform to black jacket 👍🏾.
Another entourage spy series, that has a comic feel to it, is RED and RED2. It is highly recommended. They are two of the better non-Die-Hard films that star Bruce Willis. I am excited for the next MI film, that is supposed to be in the works & coming soon.
@@whitenoisereacts can you guys react to this funny movie called Problem child one? It's mad funny. Just like there home alone one the movie and it's sequel home alone 2 lost in New york, there another movie called problem child 2. Please react to Problem Child movies one and two
41:20 - This is a problem I've seen in a lot of digital media. Subtitles that existed in the theater are for some reason cut from the digital release and you have to open the captions to get them. Of course sometimes languages are left untranslated on purpose, but I don't believe that's the case here. 43:29 - Probably a sitar.
27:19 - there were stories about people eating at Burj Khalifa restaurant and seeing Tom Cruise swing by outside... Featurette on how they were shooting: ua-cam.com/video/yVHphI8xm9I/v-deo.html
It always bugs me they say "The warning came too late" when it was the warning beeping on his phone that distracted Hanaway and let her shoot him easily.
lol the rich Indian guy is a huge star in India, probably on like Harrison Ford's level and it's hilarious seeing him n this role. As hilarious as Harrison Ford being a sleazy weirdo side character in Bollywood lmao
13:40 we have this tech. have you seen the new world cup final promo billboard ? it works exactly like that. it has a screen that gives off the illusion of depth of field depending on which angle you view it from. look it up, it looks super cool
What is your favorite Tom Cruise stunt??
My personal favorite is in Mission Impossible Fallout (number 6), the parachute scene.
in this part is climbing Burj Khalifa
When he snapped his ankle and kept running to finish the shot.
@@blackwhiteartistry733 That was great.

This is where the series takes off in a rare case of sequels getting better and better
That's been happening since MI3.
Agreed!
Tom Cruise seems to have that effect on movies 😂

Idk if you just copied all that off IMDb or what, but it was all very interesting, so thank you.
that was a fascinating read! i just finished a binge of the films and this was very informative!!
I had low expectations before watching this and I was completely blown away by it. This was where it took the franchise to the next level.
Agreed!
That climbing sequence brings whole new meaning to the expression "single-handed."

Agree with all the ranking you said lol
For me 3, 4 and 5 are the best. And 1 have a special place in my heart.

45:21 That is actually Jeremy Renner's iconic warm up routine for real, that even RDJ and Avengers cast jokes about it.
The actress playing Moreau (Lea Seydoux) also played Madeleine in the last two Daniel Craig Bond movies - Spectre & No Time To Die.
I loved her here, but thought she was absolutely terrible in the Bond movies. Just so miscast. She barely acts and looks like his granddaughter.
I love that Tom always wanted Max the arms dealer from MI:1 to come back, but sadly Vanessa Redgrave didn't want to but they found out that her assistant was available in the area so they got him for that scene.

I love how you were so stressed you got legitimately mad during the Dubai sequence. 😂 That's such a mood for these next few movies

The next movie of the franchise “Rogue Nation” is my favourite. The humour and action get even better and an intriguing new character is introduced.
Simon Peggs gets to be funnier, too. But he's always funny.

To me the voice on the phone that tells Hunt his Kremlin mission sounds a lot like the voice that would brief Mr. Incredible before his robot missions in the first Incredibles movie.
Huh? Wasn't that Mirage though?
@@crashfan9997 i mean the voice of the computer that would ask “Would you like another mimosa?”
17:56 the old guy in the car is the bad guy from rush hour lol
I love the team element of the series so much, especially with benji and luthor!! And I totally agree, theres some mishandling of the "love interest" characters at the beginning, but i think from this point on they try to fix that and I appreciate it!
This is my favorite movie in the series but dear God that tower climbing scene makes me anxious every time 😅
0:19 - People don't like 1??
Favorite part of this movie is characters thinking on the fly and using skills cause the tech doesn't work as intended or not at all.
Yeah it’s great!!
Every Mission Impossible movie creates such creative set pieces with so much tension - and despite the almost unbelievable technology involved (looking more like magic than science) the audience can grasp it and knows exactly what's going on.
this movie just always makes me speechless. tom cruise is just too awesome!
"Should I not have jumped?! 'Cause I jumped!!!!"
- Agent William Brandt
1 and 4 are my favorites. Actually, the only ones I rewatch.
39:00 fun fact: The guy handing out the mask is the same guy who worked for Max in the first movie.
If you guys wanna see some more Cold War-inspired films, I recommend Spies Like Us, and Stripes, if you haven't seen them.
I was very hyped about this movie. Because Wistrom is played by a finnish actor. And this movie didn't disappoint
I haven’t seen this movie since it came out in theaters, but I remembered I liked it a lot. So this was like watching it again for the first time.
Great reaction again guys. So fun to watch. I love that nothing goes right on this mission - the tech failures are a great touch.
Yup, the same head villain from John Wick is the villain in this movie, actor Michael Nyqvist (RIP).
I knew it!!!
Ghost Protocol is my favorite. From here on out the series is next level.
Not 100% sure but I think the Indian instrument you guys were asking about is called a "sitar"
Allow me to defend any plot bumps;
sandy areas (specifically deserts) blow microscopic dust inside of everything and most digital equipment fails randomly, the more precise, the more lazers, the more compressors, the more guaranteed random failure.
BRAD BIRD should direct STAR TREK
#BradBird4StarTrek
There are definitely subtitles in that one scene; it's weird you didn't get them.
Bit late to this and haven't watched the reaction yet, but literally... This movie changed everything for this franchise. So good!
I honestly started watching from this one on because of Simon Pegg and went backwards, love it tho! Have you thought of doing the Star Trek trilogy, I watched that for Simon Pegg and enjoyed them, plus he co-wrote the third one :)
I love the Star Trek movies! Especially Zachary Quinto as Spock. 💙
Love the way you edit the film in this reaction, not too much or too less. Good reaction by the way.
The instrument you’re thinking about is called a sitar.
YES!!!
My hands were all sweaty throughout this movie esp during the burj khalifa climbing scene 🤣🤣🤣
For me, this is the best MI yet.
MI1 I SOOOO good. I won't hear otherwise!!!
So much fun thanks for the reaction!
The series began with the 1996 film and nothing else. And the first film is one of my favorites in the series, along with this one.
Keeping Benji for more timescreen is the perfect choice.
PRACTICAL EFFECTS BEFORE CGI
That's my motto
Mine is use the right tool for the job, which ever that is.
Jeremy Renner is out there, turning every characters he plays into superheroes 😂
This was the first one that I really liked, I think Simon Pegg has something to do with it lol. You guy need to check out Red and Red 2, you'll love it.
The 'Is Burj Khalifa still the tallest?' tangent #NerdCredCheck
Paramount and JJ Abrams should let Brad Bird direct STAR TREK
They already worked together in this Mission Impossible movie
Seriously, I can't picture anyone more suitable than him for the job
39:00 Max’s henchman from the first movie
Finally gotten to the good ones. Can’t wait for the next one!
Recognized Jeremy Renner, completely misses Michael Nyqvist, who was also the main villain of John Wick.
One of the best action movies for me!
Another entourage spy series, that has a comic feel to it, is RED and RED2. It is highly recommended. They are two of the better non-Die-Hard films that star Bruce Willis. I am excited for the next MI film, that is supposed to be in the works & coming soon.
The tower scene gave me such anxiety 😂
The whole movie does lol
@@whitenoisereacts can you guys react to this funny movie called Problem child one? It's mad funny. Just like there home alone one the movie and it's sequel home alone 2 lost in New york, there another movie called problem child 2. Please react to Problem Child movies one and two
41:20 - This is a problem I've seen in a lot of digital media. Subtitles that existed in the theater are for some reason cut from the digital release and you have to open the captions to get them. Of course sometimes languages are left untranslated on purpose, but I don't believe that's the case here.
43:29 - Probably a sitar.
Miraj Grbic the guy who interpreted Bogdan was my teacher!
I could’ve sworn there was a lil more the Tom’s “JUMP!” scene where guests look at him. And then he goes “Heh, ex-wife” to play it off 😂
27:19 - there were stories about people eating at Burj Khalifa restaurant and seeing Tom Cruise swing by outside...
Featurette on how they were shooting: ua-cam.com/video/yVHphI8xm9I/v-deo.html
Just gets better from here.
Of all the missions Ethan has done, it just had to be The Kremlin in Russia, a well-known SUPERPOWER.
