I just purchased the METABO HPT 10” , and let’s be honest here.. the fact that I can plug it in for all day usage , and when I’m off grid somewhere I can use my battery , it’s a clear winner, it’s in its own class…

Even though you say that you’re not a professional testing company, you still do the best, most professional testing I’ve seen. Some sites, including a couple of fairly popular ones, are more like clowns than professionals, though they claim to be. I think we can all agree on at least one of these.
I’m writing this while paused on 0:35 into the review. Wanted to give my experience of the Metabo HPT(Hikoki/Formerly Hitachi) Multivolt 10” miter before I watched Robs. I love the saw, along with the entire line. Is it a kapex...absolutely NOT. Is it a great Jobsite ripper..ABSOLUTELY! This thing is amazing, especially considering all the capabilities(cord/cordless, decent “enough” laser, exceptional ruggedness built in to the entire saw). This thing has literally rolled of the back of a table down a flight of outdoor concrete stairs and walked away with only scratches. Power for days..battery or cord. If you look you can pick this saw up for a hell of a price. If you’re looking for versatility and a good saw, this is it!
I picked up the Metabo at lowes for $160. For that price it's really hard to beat. I haven't used it yet, so I hope that it works great for me. It is my first Metabo tool.
I talk crap to my children about watching you tube videos of kids opening toys or playing video games and here i am, going thru reviews spending money before i have it. Thanks Rob. I just purchased the 12 in delta Cruzer, because there was no cordless option at any brick and mortar store, besides 7 1/4s. And the sole 10in cordless option was a metabo floor model sold as is. We'll set how the delta goes.

Recently purchased the Makita 10"cordless. Very happy with the performance of the saw. Agree with shadow line vs laser but I still like the Makita Saw. BTW your head to heads & your reviews in general are Intelligent, spot on with no BS/ drama. Thanks.

Rob, You might say you guys are not a professional testing company, but you are! You work with these tools on a daily basis as carpenters/Builders, you know what it takes to use them. I was going to buy the Milwaukee since I have 18 of their tools, but to many complaints. I bought the 8-1/2" Makita for small cordless jobs. My main shop miter saw is my Festool Kapex. I enjoy your tool testing videos, because you guys are professionals . Keep them coming!
Rob, I have had the Makita 10” for over a year now and still love it. First job I did was a hardwood floor where I had to set up in a narrow hallway. The forward rails and dust collection sold me on that one job, both are really great features.
It’s so interesting to read everyone having accuracy problems with the Milwaukee 10”. I use mine for everything but I’ve really loved it for trim because it has a large capacity on the upright. Maybe I’m just use to it and not pulling left / right while cutting? Also the weight is a blessing. Being able to open a door while holding the saw with one hand is amazing.
I have issues with my milwaukee 10" mitre saw no matter how I tried it doesn't cut straight and noticed the rails are deflecting alot which transfers to the head of the saw , wasted money for me
I've owned that makita for about 3 years now. I was super lucky in that I caught my local home depot clearancing it at the same time Makita was running a free two batteries. So I ended up getting the saw and 4 5 amp hour batteries for $350. To call it a steal at that price would be an understatement. I've had a few nitpicks in operating it over the years, but they are just that nitpicks. The fence system isn't the best design as certain cuts you straight have to remove it. I also have the same perspective on the laser as you guys. It is fine for quickly sighting something that I just need in the ball park, but absolutely worthless for precision. Beyond those nitpicks, I've found nothing it couldn't do. I originally bought it being skeptical that it would become my full time saw and replace my old dewalt 12". Mind you that saw is 20ish years old and is just a work horse. I haven't touched it a single time since buying the makita. I just simply haven't found anything it couldn't handle. Three years of use and that is really the only complaints I can muster about it. I put mine on the Harbor freight hercules rolling miter saw stand. I just found makita's miter stands to be really just poorly designed for the price they are asking.
My first makita 10" cordless got stolen after about a couple months of use,and I replaced it with the same model ,but at the time home depot only had a floor model in stock. After about a year the switch /sensor was replaced and was under warranty. To be fair to makita,it could have already had a defect. I use it alot for small segmented /pattern work and do a lot of repetitive cuts,and it has been almost a year since being repaired and I've had no problems since. I've also had the kapex ,but would reluctant to buy another because of customer service, but I think the makita 10" is the closest thing to it and has a larger more accurate bed, more powerful motor. I wish they could make it with the same bevel control as the kapex, but for the price you can't beat it! Thanks Rob, for this review!
99 percent of my trim work and other work is done with a 7.5 inch slider , very rarely do I use my dewalt flexvolt 12 only when building decks or framing etc ..I love my Koblat cordless 7.5 inch slider ! It's an amazing saw and lasts all day long on a 6amp hour batt! No issues at all , the kobalt is a great saw !
I have the Makita saw, I love it! I bet all 3 mitre saws are good but the Makita has a beautiful design. I do not like the Milwaukee design at all, seems to be too long with that slide rails at the back. I'm waiting for the Makita dls610 review, currently it's available only in Japan hopefully it will be available in Europe and USA as well. 👍
I recently purchased the new Makita 40v 12" mitre saw and guess what they listened and replaced the laser with the shadow light , bought it kited with fast charger and 2 40v 4ah batteries, the saw is amazing runs for almost a day or with heavy use for about 5 hours so second battery is a necessity unles you charge it during the lunch time and to solve the weight issue got bosch gravity rise mitre saw stand and its awesome, thanks for your videos
Milwaukee for job site, makita for shop. Makita is the best but I don’t want to lug it around. And, I want to shadow light. Makita’s new 40 volt has the shadow line. Hope to see it reviewed soon!
I totally agree. There shouldn't corded or cordless, just one tool. I like the idea of the Hikoki power transformer for their 36v tools. This should be how all larger tools are supplied, as you say with the option of using batteries if you want.
I got a phenomenal deal on the Makita. $400 in the box with complimentary set of Irwin clamps. Wish it had an aftermarket power cord as it’s been mentioned

Great video Rob, I’ve had the Milwaukee, sold it and now use the Metabo HPT. Dust collection is a big deal for me as well as cost and I’m really happy with it. The Milwaukee was a nice machine but don’t miss it. I’d love to try the Makita but $$

I am a trim guy from 80s 90s up to 2000. I was able to find a Makita LS 1011 10" miter saw. I had it restored and it became very accurate. That saw was stolen from me. Very upset over that happening. In trying to replace tools that were stolen...I found an almost exact copy. Turns out it's a Cummins 10" slider...tips to the right...same as the Makita LS 1011. The Cummins has absolutely no side play! This is due to two Allen set screws at the pivot (up and down). Great saw...I like it better than the Makita.
All those guys making sawdust in the driveway with imperfect dust collection and some not wearing masks. I’d rather not inhale all that wood/glue dust. Dust in the air is pretty visible.
Awesome review as always!!! When it comes to miter saws Makita can't be beat. I agree it needs a shadow line instead of laser. For the past several years this saw has been offered at $249 with 4 batteries...incredible deal! Thanks again

I have been seriously thinking of buying the Makita 12" corded model for the shop, but I just saw a video that showed how after only 4 months the detent plate has worn out from the locking pin because the plate is made from soft aluminum. The maker of the channel said Makita has no plans to fix it. He said he found a company that will make them out of stainless steel. Key in Makita miter saw in the UA-cam search bar and look for Number one problem if you want to see the video. It's from December 2019.
I have the Makita.... I just broke it down, cleaned out the bearings and the slide plate (the nylon ring that has lithium grease on it from factory). The slide page was heavily coated in a greasy wood pulp and quite a bit of aluminum dust from a deck we built that has aluminim embedded in the hand rails. The combination of aluminum dust had made the rotation of the base and turn base very difficult and I’d hear a metallic grinding sound. Anyway once I got it apart and cleaned, I realize the aluminum ridge of the turn base was wearing down on the nylon slide plate and in tie the nylon slide plate had actually become uneven. So I ordered a replacement slide plate, installed using new Greece etc. I then checked for square. I found the fence was off quite a lot, and had to use the maximum adjustment allowance designed into the unit. Everything else is pretty close. On a 45 miter... vs 90, I can’t seem to quite true up the cut the vertical cut, I’m off .7 hundredths of an inch when all the way to the right. If I could work with Makita to make some changes, this is what I’d request. (1) get rid of laser and go with LED shadow line. I have a Milwaukee saw with the shadow line and although the Milwaukee is used only for framing cuts.... it’s a pretty pathetic saw for trim Carpentey... a lot of slop in the slide and it cannot be tried up. Anyway the shadow line helps with low lighting situations and it can be seen in bright daylight as well. (2) machine the entire saw to be about 10lbs lighter. I believe the base and slide base are more robust than necessary and also believe the glide rails could be a little narrower in diameter with it compromising required strength. (3) seal all the bearings on the table so they can’t get clogged up with saw dust.
So true, I’ve had mine apart twice to clean and re grease the table. It’s the worst part about the saw aside from the weight, it’s so damn heavy! I’m eyeballing the 7-1/4” Metabo that’s still made in Japan. Maybe it’ll get me all warm and fuzzy again thinking about the 2 jap made c10fsh saws I used to have 😊
This saw was one of the reasons I have been switching many if my cordless contractor grade tools over to Metabo HPT over my Milwaukee and Makita tools The AC adapter, lifetime warranty, price, function and power are all strengths of the Metabo HPT cordless tools-especially the 36V However some.of the 18V tools are good as well The 10" fill size table saw, SDS Max rotary drill, 1/2" full size plunge router, hammer drill, shop vacuum, portable band saw and 1/2 and 3/4 impact wrenches all are tools that have replaced the red and blue in my shop and truck The AC adapter guarantees longer running time and longer longevity for the tool
@@kizzjd9578 it's not overheating.the fan runs much of the time it's running We have 3 adapters and have run em hard on SDS Max rotary hammers, table saws, grinders, porta bands, Recip saws and others with no issues Just saved battery life
@@baseballdude8491 well maybe my adapter is fkd then because the fan runs constantly and if you push it too hard it wont run the tool for about 10mins.
I have the Makita and the negatives for me 1.The removable part does not line up with the bottom causing your piece of wood to lean back 2. The weight. The older I get the more that matters 3. I don't like lasers either. I have a Dewalt and love the shadow of the blade. Positives 1. Forward slide rails allow for zero clearance behind it. That's important for a shop saw. 2. Easy bevel adjustments 3. Locks down easily 4. Everything just feels like quality If they fixed the fence and swapped the laser for a light then it would be the perfect saw
I have the Makita. I love it except for two things. Dust collection clogs when not using a vacuum and the laser vs shadow-line. But wow is it precise! I was worried about battery but not an issue unless I am doing a lot dado type cuts in 6x6. Bought mine on sale with 4 batteries included. Never going back to a cord.
Thanks so much for this review. I’m currently looking for a 10-inch saw. I was thinking of Makita because of its features and most importantly its compact size. Your review is making my decision harder after I learned more about the Milwaukee saw. I love everything about it expect the fact it takes more space in the shop.
Great review guys! Having only Makita gear I’m leaning more to that brand, like Milwaukee stuff also, just not a fan of the laser or weight of the Makita. I’m used a much much lighter dewalt which is a great saw but it’s got a heap of wobble to it which puts a trench into my mitres. Definitely agree about the shadow line that was what sold the dewalt to me several years back.
Great video, Thank You! I love my cordless Makita, but the miter scale detent plate is soft aluminum and the detent’s will start to get bigger over time and the cuts aren’t accurate. I just changed my plate after 2 years of average use. 👍🏻👍🏻
akaredcrossbow @stenewoodwork on instagram has made a stainless steel detent plate for the saw it works just like the manufacturers but it doesn’t break down like the aluminum one. I’ve had mine for about a year now.

Red china makes shit carpentry tools. Late to the game and still lags behind in quality. They should stick with the techs. Leave the man glitter making to the real tool companies.
Shadowline is the feature that needs to be introduced to Makita saws ASAP. The best solution would be shadowline retrofitted as a spare part, so we could swap laser with it.

@@kizzjd9578 Here in Poland I have a very good contact with one of Makita's technical advisers. As for now, because XGT miter saw is fairly new, there are no service part available for end-users, only authorised services have them. But I've been promised that he'll check if XGT 12 inch shadowline is interchangeable with LXT 12 inch laser. Because I'm deep into LXT, in foreseeable futer I'm not planning to change to XGT. Thus I wasn't even looking at any XGT tools.
I purchased the Milwaukee 7 1/4" and as a finishing carpenter l like how I can lug the saw around from room to room and gives me the accuracy in cut that I desire.
I find the dewalt version thats the same size really handy for dragging up into awkward roof spaces, say as you're building a bay window extension, just keeps you up in the workspace instead of running up and down ladders, or trusting someone else on the grounds cut accuracy on the bigger mitre saw. Once we've built ourselves a spot to sit 2 of us plus the saw can get up into that space, and manipulate the wood easily enough to build out and finish the rest For anything else? Its junk.... eats batteries, locks up on wet wood, and our old one damm near killed our boss when he tried to mitre cut copper pipe (don't ask....) and the thing damm well exploded, literally picking bits of the safety guard and copper pipe out of the wall 15+ft away. Turns out its only rated for straight cuts on copper pipe, even with the fancy blade, its just not powerful enough to mitre soft metals safely 👀
@@mor4y yikes that was scary, similar thing happened to me with cutting aluminum wrecked the blade and the piece I was cutting so bought the proper blade and no problem since I can work all day on one charge.
The Makita is running $150 off for the kit + 2 free 5 ah batteries. So you can get the saw, four 5amp batteries and a dual port rapid charger for $500 until the end of October. Easily the best saw I've ever used and more power than my previous corded 10" saw. My only complaints are that I prefer the shadow line to the laser, the fence is a bit awkward to adjust for bevel cuts, and I'd like an optional lock a 0°. The you can't tilt the saw to the right without unlocking, but it tilts to the left freely. While this is definitely convenient and fast when you're making a lot of varied cuts, it would be nice to have it locked in in both directions when I'm making repeated 90° cuts.
Everybody's I have their own favorite but you'd least you're trying to show from your opinions what you think is the best you have to respect that you're not just saying old this is the best this the reason why this falls in this category keep up the great work Cheers With a beer
I've run the HPT and Milwaukee pretty extensively. They're pretty comparable. The Hitachi has quite a bit more power and seems to hold rpm through cuts better but it seems like they just decided to cheap out in such odd places. The plastic detent stop is not that nice the miter lock has a threaded rod to adjust but it likes to work it's way loose, the head slides fairly rough on the rails, I ended up adjusting the saw as far as I could and I'm still about 1/2 a degree off and lastly there's quite a bit of flex in the rails. Overall though it really is a good saw it just takes a bit of work to get it set up and sort of "tuned up" The Milwaukee is a nice saw and seems a bit more like a finished product but the power just lacks and the rails coming from inside the saw can make it want to tip if you don't have it mounted to a stand. But overall for the work we do having something light weight and cordless while still having a decent cut capacity and good run time on battery is well worth the few issues. I seriously considered the Makita as I have a lot of their tools and think they make incredible tools, I just can't get past the extra weight on a saw that I just want to be easy to pull out and set up.
I had the exact same experience as you. I loved the power of the Metabo HPT 36v, but I cant get it to cut square. There is too much movement in the head when extended. I actually use the Milwaukee 10" now, It doesn't have as much power but it cuts more accurately which is more important to me. You just have to cut a little slower at times.
Favorite UA-cam channel. Ive never watched a full episode of any tool review except AVE until i found your channel. The fact that not a single video you've put up about a tool comes without that tool being demonstrate as closely to real life situations. Ive never felt I was tricked unlike others that have name's implying I'll be watching all action with some talking when it's complete opposite. Tools in action my ass. Lol. Sorry had to say it.
I just bought the Milwaukee 10" for finish carpentry. Works pretty good. Trimmed out a house all day long and my hd12 battery was only 1/2 down. NOW for the problem I have. Please let me know if you have this issue too. When dropping the miter saw blade to a 45 degree angle. The blade protector binds on the bed when pulling the blade straight downwards, like it doesn't get out of the way fast enough, To help this i have to pull the blade all the way forward and push backwards to help the guard rotate upwards like its suppose to. Its a real pain in the ass when slicing at a 45 degree angle and the guard is stopping the blade from finishing the cut.
Rob outstanding head to head as usual no stone left unturned! But here’s my gripe! The milwaukee maybe the most accurate out of the box but there’s at least 5 vids on UA-cam yours included from 4 years ago that mentions blade deflection due to the way the saw rails go under the saw base!! Have milwaukee rectified this or have you guys just changed your minds?
I'm waiting to see what Makita does with the 40v Max line in the US. Once I see reviews of 40V Max vs 18v x 2 I'll make a decision.... on which Makita :)
I like my milwaukee 10 inch. It was on sale and cheaper then the corded saw I was looking at and I'm already on the milwaukee platform. It does it's job
I have been thinking about getting a battery saw. Currently, I am invested in the Milwaukee battery platform. I don’t really see the need for one though. I have a Bosch 10” that I have had for 25 years that works great and just got a Metabo 8 1/2”. I still like my Bosch better.
Woodworking Beginner: Update. This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work). Tips and Test: Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. first option: handle vertical positioned above the saw blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact/ Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS. Second optie: handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 . (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed). Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade. Step-5. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing. Conclusion:how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing don't go for that (the choices are yours). Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...

I collect rock serpentine and black jade. I would love to install a diamond 12 inch blade to cut large rocks IN THE FIELD. The problem; electricity and water don't mix.
Great job as always! Very thorough and insightful testing as always. My only suggestion would be to test accuracy of the miter at 45° with 1 x 6 red oak. That will show deficiencies easily.
did you check for cut quality? some could have more blade wobble. and when adjusting the angle some have more slop than others in their bevel notches when it locks in.
Has the crew ever crunched the numbers to determine best overall cordless brand? I’ve got about 20 different Makita 18/36V tools I put through hard field use 10+ years and no complaints yet.

In August I bought the Metabo HPT 10" sliding miter saw, 15 amp so the corded model. The first one i received I felt an extreme amount of vibration and as if it also something similar to a rod knock. Very sloppy head when positiond all the way forward so the max cut capacity towards the user. Upon inspection right away visualaly the fasteners (machine,screws) on the blade side that were going into motor housing. Every single one in that guard/ BLADE side had a gap from back of head on screw and the washer and other side of washer to the surface the washer should of been tight against.
And this is after maybe 10 to 15 cuts through 1"x4" cedar. Brand new Diablo 50tooth BLADE. Then I noticed there was a lot of slop betweer then saws fixed mounting base and the rotating miter base. I could almkst the biggest feeler gauge on a standard set if I applied real world pressure again in the max foward cut position. The sliding rails bolts were loose enough causing the saw to never be able to stay aligned after I meticulously set it up. i tightened everything and set it up properly. After I called and had a new,one on its way to get me by. The new one was hardly any better. I returned and got the Hitachi 12" sliding saw older model with fine adjustemnt on miter and bevel. I VE HEARD THAT THE CORDLESS MODEL IS SO MUCH BETTER ITS LIKE USING A DIFFERENT SAW. I LIKE THE MAKITA AND MILWAUKEE BUT THERE VERY PROUD OF THERE BATTERIES AND TOOLS. METABO HAS THERE BIGSKYTOOL.COM SITE ALLOWING PEOPLE TO GET PRO TOOLS AT PRICE CHEAPER THEN THE HOME OWNER / PROSUMER BRAND NEW PRICE. WERE YOU HAPPY ENOUGH WITH THE METABO SAW IN THIS TEST THAT YOU WOULD HAVD IT IN YOUR TRUCK OR TRAILER TO GET USED EVERY DAY TO EARN A LIVING OR WOULD YOU ONLY GO WITH ONE OF THE 2 THAY,SCORED HIGHER THEN IT.
Is this a re-run? These saws have been out for years. Big fan of Milwaukee tools, but the compactness of the Makita sold me. The initial "here's free saw, tell us what you think." videos raved about the Milwaukee. Then it was released and the reviews weren't so rosey all of the sudden. The shadow line is awesome, and wish the Makita had it, but I'm happy with the Makita. You can set it against a wall and still use it. I got it on a promo with 4 batteries and a charger for $529. But it's HEAVY! Waiting for the 7 1/4 Milwaukee price to drop for a really portable unit.
I think this is a great informative video but i just want to know why you only talked about milwaukee,makita,and metabo HPT. I mean i see a dewalt and i think a kobalt so i just wanted to know why whe others from the background were left out.

@@zylent8251 They were both high quality till about 5 years ago when they were respectively made in Japan and Germany. Now, they're all made in China. They still make decent tools, but they're not exceptional or anything. German Metabo even lies by putting "made in Germany" on the box, while the actual tool says "made in China"

I'm kinda surprised the milwaukee won for accuracy. Lol I have to re calibrate quite a bit I feel like. I can't get it diled in for some reason. I lo love the saw but that's my only problem ,and it's kind of a big one lol
I own the Makita and the Milwaukee. The Mikita is a far better saw except for weight and the stupid laser. The Milwaukee dust collector has broken 3 times now. The Milwaukee also has problems with accuracy, a lot of flex in the head rails.
The 10" Milwaukee is great for just about everything unless it requires a high level of precision. It's ok for trim as long as it's paint grade. I wouldn't use it on anything requiring a very precise cut. There's too much movement in the saw and not enough power. It likes to hollow out cuts, even with a nice thick blade
@toolboxbuzz. I’d be curious to see how the Milwaukee holds up on accuracy over the course of time. I loved the saw out of the box and for close to a year. When it came to cutting bevels a few months back, things were off. I purchased a digital angle reader and found I was getting up to 2.75 degrees slop in bevel angle when at the 45 deg stop on both sides. The saw was still under warranty so I had it serviced at a local center. Shop said the saw was fine and that if dust builds up in the housing for bevel handle the stops will not fully engage causing said slop. I have not put it back to the test as the FlexVolt I purchased to ‘fill in’ is outstanding and super accurate. Everything about the Milwaukee batteries life and weight is great, but with the cost of building materials skyrocketing this seems like a bit of a fatal flaw (especially where the saw already lacks in dust collection). And yes, normal tool maintenance is part of my daily routine. Tech suggested taking the rear dust port off the saw and blowing the bevel housing out with compressed air. We will see I’ve mounted the saw back on a stand so I will put it to the test. As a sole proprietor, issues like this are not only expensive, but also very time consuming as a professional. Hopefully this will help she’s some light on the ‘I hate this saw’, ‘this saw sucks’ etc. If this maintenance is in fact the fix, then it should be information readily available to consumers. As it sit right now though, there are a large number of 10” Fuel owners who see that Milwaukee rolled out completely redesigned 12” & 7 1/4” cordless saws, basically realizing the design flaws in the 10” saw.
I just purchased the METABO HPT 10” , and let’s be honest here.. the fact that I can plug it in for all day usage , and when I’m off grid somewhere I can use my battery , it’s a clear winner, it’s in its own class…

I have two Makita 36v 10" saws. They are simply the best saws Ive ever used. Accuracy, and ability to dial in any cut is why I continue to use them.

I’m writing this while paused on 0:35 into the review. Wanted to give my experience of the Metabo HPT(Hikoki/Formerly Hitachi) Multivolt 10” miter before I watched Robs. I love the saw, along with the entire line. Is it a kapex...absolutely NOT. Is it a great Jobsite ripper..ABSOLUTELY! This thing is amazing, especially considering all the capabilities(cord/cordless, decent “enough” laser, exceptional ruggedness built in to the entire saw). This thing has literally rolled of the back of a table down a flight of outdoor concrete stairs and walked away with only scratches. Power for days..battery or cord. If you look you can pick this saw up for a hell of a price. If you’re looking for versatility and a good saw, this is it!
I picked up the Metabo at lowes for $160. For that price it's really hard to beat. I haven't used it yet, so I hope that it works great for me. It is my first Metabo tool.

Thanks Rob. I just purchased the 12 in delta Cruzer, because there was no cordless option at any brick and mortar store, besides 7 1/4s. And the sole 10in cordless option was a metabo floor model sold as is. We'll set how the delta goes.

Rob, You might say you guys are not a professional testing company, but you are! You work with these tools on a daily basis as carpenters/Builders, you know what it takes to use them. I was going to buy the Milwaukee since I have 18 of their tools, but to many complaints. I bought the 8-1/2" Makita for small cordless jobs. My main shop miter saw is my Festool Kapex. I enjoy your tool testing videos, because you guys are professionals . Keep them coming!
Rob, I have had the Makita 10” for over a year now and still love it. First job I did was a hardwood floor where I had to set up in a narrow hallway. The forward rails and dust collection sold me on that one job, both are really great features.
It’s so interesting to read everyone having accuracy problems with the Milwaukee 10”. I use mine for everything but I’ve really loved it for trim because it has a large capacity on the upright. Maybe I’m just use to it and not pulling left / right while cutting? Also the weight is a blessing. Being able to open a door while holding the saw with one hand is amazing.

I have issues with my milwaukee 10" mitre saw no matter how I tried it doesn't cut straight and noticed the rails are deflecting alot which transfers to the head of the saw , wasted money for me
I've owned that makita for about 3 years now. I was super lucky in that I caught my local home depot clearancing it at the same time Makita was running a free two batteries. So I ended up getting the saw and 4 5 amp hour batteries for $350. To call it a steal at that price would be an understatement.
I've had a few nitpicks in operating it over the years, but they are just that nitpicks. The fence system isn't the best design as certain cuts you straight have to remove it. I also have the same perspective on the laser as you guys. It is fine for quickly sighting something that I just need in the ball park, but absolutely worthless for precision. Beyond those nitpicks, I've found nothing it couldn't do. I originally bought it being skeptical that it would become my full time saw and replace my old dewalt 12". Mind you that saw is 20ish years old and is just a work horse. I haven't touched it a single time since buying the makita. I just simply haven't found anything it couldn't handle. Three years of use and that is really the only complaints I can muster about it.
I put mine on the Harbor freight hercules rolling miter saw stand. I just found makita's miter stands to be really just poorly designed for the price they are asking.
My first makita 10" cordless got stolen after about a couple months of use,and I replaced it with the same model ,but at the time home depot only had a floor model in stock. After about a year the switch /sensor was replaced and was under warranty. To be fair to makita,it could have already had a defect. I use it alot for small segmented /pattern work and do a lot of repetitive cuts,and it has been almost a year since being repaired and I've had no problems since.
I've also had the kapex ,but would reluctant to buy another because of customer service, but I think the makita 10" is the closest thing to it and has a larger more accurate bed, more powerful motor. I wish they could make it with the same bevel control as the kapex, but for the price you can't beat it! Thanks Rob, for this review!
99 percent of my trim work and other work is done with a 7.5 inch slider , very rarely do I use my dewalt flexvolt 12 only when building decks or framing etc ..I love my Koblat cordless 7.5 inch slider ! It's an amazing saw and lasts all day long on a 6amp hour batt! No issues at all , the kobalt is a great saw !

I have the Makita saw, I love it! I bet all 3 mitre saws are good but the Makita has a beautiful design. I do not like the Milwaukee design at all, seems to be too long with that slide rails at the back.

I recently purchased the new Makita 40v 12" mitre saw and guess what they listened and replaced the laser with the shadow light , bought it kited with fast charger and 2 40v 4ah batteries, the saw is amazing runs for almost a day or with heavy use for about 5 hours so second battery is a necessity unles you charge it during the lunch time and to solve the weight issue got bosch gravity rise mitre saw stand and its awesome, thanks for your videos
Milwaukee for job site, makita for shop. Makita is the best but I don’t want to lug it around. And, I want to shadow light. Makita’s new 40 volt has the shadow line. Hope to see it reviewed soon!

I totally agree. There shouldn't corded or cordless, just one tool. I like the idea of the Hikoki power transformer for their 36v tools. This should be how all larger tools are supplied, as you say with the option of using batteries if you want.

I am a trim guy from 80s 90s up to 2000. I was able to find a Makita LS 1011 10" miter saw. I had it restored and it became very accurate. That saw was stolen from me. Very upset over that happening. In trying to replace tools that were stolen...I found an almost exact copy. Turns out it's a Cummins 10" slider...tips to the right...same as the Makita LS 1011. The Cummins has absolutely no side play! This is due to two Allen set screws at the pivot (up and down). Great saw...I like it better than the Makita.

I have been seriously thinking of buying the Makita 12" corded model for the shop, but I just saw a video that showed how after only 4 months the detent plate has worn out from the locking pin because the plate is made from soft aluminum. The maker of the channel said Makita has no plans to fix it. He said he found a company that will make them out of stainless steel. Key in Makita miter saw in the UA-cam search bar and look for Number one problem if you want to see the video. It's from December 2019.

I've got the 10 inch Milwaukee, it's decent , the arms flex at 45 degree bevel so the cut isn't straight if you don't let the blade cut ,
I have the Makita.... I just broke it down, cleaned out the bearings and the slide plate (the nylon ring that has lithium grease on it from factory). The slide page was heavily coated in a greasy wood pulp and quite a bit of aluminum dust from a deck we built that has aluminim embedded in the hand rails. The combination of aluminum dust had made the rotation of the base and turn base very difficult and I’d hear a metallic grinding sound.
Anyway once I got it apart and cleaned, I realize the aluminum ridge of the turn base was wearing down on the nylon slide plate and in tie the nylon slide plate had actually become uneven.
So I ordered a replacement slide plate, installed using new Greece etc.
I then checked for square. I found the fence was off quite a lot, and had to use the maximum adjustment allowance designed into the unit. Everything else is pretty close. On a 45 miter... vs 90, I can’t seem to quite true up the cut the vertical cut, I’m off .7 hundredths of an inch when all the way to the right.
If I could work with Makita to make some changes, this is what I’d request.
(1) get rid of laser and go with LED shadow line. I have a Milwaukee saw with the shadow line and although the Milwaukee is used only for framing cuts.... it’s a pretty pathetic saw for trim Carpentey... a lot of slop in the slide and it cannot be tried up. Anyway the shadow line helps with low lighting situations and it can be seen in bright daylight as well.
(2) machine the entire saw to be about 10lbs lighter. I believe the base and slide base are more robust than necessary and also believe the glide rails could be a little narrower in diameter with it compromising required strength.
(3) seal all the bearings on the table so they can’t get clogged up with saw dust.
So true, I’ve had mine apart twice to clean and re grease the table. It’s the worst part about the saw aside from the weight, it’s so damn heavy! I’m eyeballing the 7-1/4” Metabo that’s still made in Japan. Maybe it’ll get me all warm and fuzzy again thinking about the 2 jap made c10fsh saws I used to have 😊
This saw was one of the reasons I have been switching many if my cordless contractor grade tools over to Metabo HPT over my Milwaukee and Makita tools
The AC adapter, lifetime warranty, price, function and power are all strengths of the Metabo HPT cordless tools-especially the 36V
However some.of the 18V tools are good as well
The 10" fill size table saw, SDS Max rotary drill, 1/2" full size plunge router, hammer drill, shop vacuum, portable band saw and 1/2 and 3/4 impact wrenches all are tools that have replaced the red and blue in my shop and truck
The AC adapter guarantees longer running time and longer longevity for the tool
Not really. It looks overheats so easily and you gotta let it cool down for 10mins. Also doesn’t give you any extra power.

We have 3 adapters and have run em hard on SDS Max rotary hammers, table saws, grinders, porta bands, Recip saws and others with no issues

I have the Makita and the negatives for me
1.The removable part does not line up with the bottom causing your piece of wood to lean back
2. The weight. The older I get the more that matters
3. I don't like lasers either. I have a Dewalt and love the shadow of the blade.
Positives
1. Forward slide rails allow for zero clearance behind it. That's important for a shop saw.
2. Easy bevel adjustments
3. Locks down easily
4. Everything just feels like quality
If they fixed the fence and swapped the laser for a light then it would be the perfect saw
I have the Makita. I love it except for two things. Dust collection clogs when not using a vacuum and the laser vs shadow-line. But wow is it precise! I was worried about battery but not an issue unless I am doing a lot dado type cuts in 6x6. Bought mine on sale with 4 batteries included. Never going back to a cord.

Thanks so much for this review. I’m currently looking for a 10-inch saw. I was thinking of Makita because of its features and most importantly its compact size. Your review is making my decision harder after I learned more about the Milwaukee saw. I love everything about it expect the fact it takes more space in the shop.
Great review guys! Having only Makita gear I’m leaning more to that brand, like Milwaukee stuff also, just not a fan of the laser or weight of the Makita. I’m used a much much lighter dewalt which is a great saw but it’s got a heap of wobble to it which puts a trench into my mitres. Definitely agree about the shadow line that was what sold the dewalt to me several years back.

I love my cordless Makita, but the miter scale detent plate is soft aluminum and the detent’s will start to get bigger over time and the cuts aren’t accurate. I just changed my plate after 2 years of average use.

akaredcrossbow @stenewoodwork on instagram has made a stainless steel detent plate for the saw it works just like the manufacturers but it doesn’t break down like the aluminum one. I’ve had mine for about a year now.

Shadowline is the feature that needs to be introduced to Makita saws ASAP. The best solution would be shadowline retrofitted as a spare part, so we could swap laser with it.

As for now, because XGT miter saw is fairly new, there are no service part available for end-users, only authorised services have them. But I've been promised that he'll check if XGT 12 inch shadowline is interchangeable with LXT 12 inch laser.
Because I'm deep into LXT, in foreseeable futer I'm not planning to change to XGT. Thus I wasn't even looking at any XGT tools.
I purchased the Milwaukee 7 1/4" and as a finishing carpenter l like how I can lug the saw around from room to room and gives me the accuracy in cut that I desire.

I find the dewalt version thats the same size really handy for dragging up into awkward roof spaces, say as you're building a bay window extension, just keeps you up in the workspace instead of running up and down ladders, or trusting someone else on the grounds cut accuracy on the bigger mitre saw. Once we've built ourselves a spot to sit 2 of us plus the saw can get up into that space, and manipulate the wood easily enough to build out and finish the rest
For anything else? Its junk.... eats batteries, locks up on wet wood, and our old one damm near killed our boss when he tried to mitre cut copper pipe (don't ask....) and the thing damm well exploded, literally picking bits of the safety guard and copper pipe out of the wall 15+ft away. Turns out its only rated for straight cuts on copper pipe, even with the fancy blade, its just not powerful enough to mitre soft metals safely 👀
@@mor4y yikes that was scary, similar thing happened to me with cutting aluminum wrecked the blade and the piece I was cutting so bought the proper blade and no problem since I can work all day on one charge.
The Makita is running $150 off for the kit + 2 free 5 ah batteries. So you can get the saw, four 5amp batteries and a dual port rapid charger for $500 until the end of October. Easily the best saw I've ever used and more power than my previous corded 10" saw.
My only complaints are that I prefer the shadow line to the laser, the fence is a bit awkward to adjust for bevel cuts, and I'd like an optional lock a 0°. The you can't tilt the saw to the right without unlocking, but it tilts to the left freely. While this is definitely convenient and fast when you're making a lot of varied cuts, it would be nice to have it locked in in both directions when I'm making repeated 90° cuts.
Everybody's I have their own favorite but you'd least you're trying to show from your opinions what you think is the best you have to respect that you're not just saying old this is the best this the reason why this falls in this category keep up the great work Cheers With a beer

I've run the HPT and Milwaukee pretty extensively. They're pretty comparable. The Hitachi has quite a bit more power and seems to hold rpm through cuts better but it seems like they just decided to cheap out in such odd places. The plastic detent stop is not that nice the miter lock has a threaded rod to adjust but it likes to work it's way loose, the head slides fairly rough on the rails, I ended up adjusting the saw as far as I could and I'm still about 1/2 a degree off and lastly there's quite a bit of flex in the rails. Overall though it really is a good saw it just takes a bit of work to get it set up and sort of "tuned up" The Milwaukee is a nice saw and seems a bit more like a finished product but the power just lacks and the rails coming from inside the saw can make it want to tip if you don't have it mounted to a stand. But overall for the work we do having something light weight and cordless while still having a decent cut capacity and good run time on battery is well worth the few issues. I seriously considered the Makita as I have a lot of their tools and think they make incredible tools, I just can't get past the extra weight on a saw that I just want to be easy to pull out and set up.
I had the exact same experience as you. I loved the power of the Metabo HPT 36v, but I cant get it to cut square. There is too much movement in the head when extended. I actually use the Milwaukee 10" now, It doesn't have as much power but it cuts more accurately which is more important to me. You just have to cut a little slower at times.
Favorite UA-cam channel. Ive never watched a full episode of any tool review except AVE until i found your channel. The fact that not a single video you've put up about a tool comes without that tool being demonstrate as closely to real life situations. Ive never felt I was tricked unlike others that have name's implying I'll be watching all action with some talking when it's complete opposite. Tools in action my ass. Lol. Sorry had to say it.

I just bought the Milwaukee 10" for finish carpentry. Works pretty good. Trimmed out a house all day long and my hd12 battery was only 1/2 down. NOW for the problem I have. Please let me know if you have this issue too. When dropping the miter saw blade to a 45 degree angle. The blade protector binds on the bed when pulling the blade straight downwards, like it doesn't get out of the way fast enough, To help this i have to pull the blade all the way forward and push backwards to help the guard rotate upwards like its suppose to. Its a real pain in the ass when slicing at a 45 degree angle and the guard is stopping the blade from finishing the cut.

The milwaukee maybe the most accurate out of the box but there’s at least 5 vids on UA-cam yours included from 4 years ago that mentions blade deflection due to the way the saw rails go under the saw base!! Have milwaukee rectified this or have you guys just changed your minds?

I like my milwaukee 10 inch. It was on sale and cheaper then the corded saw I was looking at and I'm already on the milwaukee platform. It does it's job
I have been thinking about getting a battery saw. Currently, I am invested in the Milwaukee battery platform. I don’t really see the need for one though. I have a Bosch 10” that I have had for 25 years that works great and just got a Metabo 8 1/2”. I still like my Bosch better.
Woodworking Beginner: Update.
This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work).
Tips and Test:
Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade.
Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
It is very important that everything is aligned.
Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
first option: handle vertical positioned above the saw blade.

Second optie: handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 .
(This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
(If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed).
Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed).
Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade.
The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade.
Step-5. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing.
Conclusion:how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing don't go for that (the choices are yours).
Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...

Great job as always! Very thorough and insightful testing as always.
My only suggestion would be to test accuracy of the miter at 45° with 1 x 6 red oak. That will show deficiencies easily.

did you check for cut quality? some could have more blade wobble. and when adjusting the angle some have more slop than others in their bevel notches when it locks in.

Had too many problems with metabo
It doesnt slide very well
In August I bought the Metabo HPT 10" sliding miter saw, 15 amp so the corded model. The first one i received I felt an extreme amount of vibration and as if it also something similar to a rod knock. Very sloppy head when positiond all the way forward so the max cut capacity towards the user. Upon inspection right away visualaly the fasteners (machine,screws) on the blade side that were going into motor housing. Every single one in that guard/ BLADE side had a gap from back of head on screw and the washer and other side of washer to the surface the washer should of been tight against.
And this is after maybe 10 to 15 cuts through 1"x4" cedar. Brand new Diablo 50tooth BLADE. Then I noticed there was a lot of slop betweer then saws fixed mounting base and the rotating miter base. I could almkst the biggest feeler gauge on a standard set if I applied real world pressure again in the max foward cut position.
The sliding rails bolts were loose enough causing the saw to never be able to stay aligned after I meticulously set it up.
i tightened everything and set it up properly. After I called and had a new,one on its way to get me by. The new one was hardly any better. I returned and got the Hitachi 12" sliding saw older model with fine adjustemnt on miter and bevel.
I VE HEARD THAT THE CORDLESS MODEL IS SO MUCH BETTER ITS LIKE USING A DIFFERENT SAW. I LIKE THE MAKITA AND MILWAUKEE BUT THERE VERY PROUD OF THERE BATTERIES AND TOOLS. METABO HAS THERE BIGSKYTOOL.COM SITE ALLOWING PEOPLE TO GET PRO TOOLS AT PRICE CHEAPER THEN THE HOME OWNER / PROSUMER BRAND NEW PRICE.

Is this a re-run? These saws have been out for years. Big fan of Milwaukee tools, but the compactness of the Makita sold me. The initial "here's free saw, tell us what you think." videos raved about the Milwaukee. Then it was released and the reviews weren't so rosey all of the sudden. The shadow line is awesome, and wish the Makita had it, but I'm happy with the Makita. You can set it against a wall and still use it. I got it on a promo with 4 batteries and a charger for $529. But it's HEAVY! Waiting for the 7 1/4 Milwaukee price to drop for a really portable unit.
Nope - the last Head-to-Head that we did was corded. there are others out there but we felt we could do better

I think this is a great informative video but i just want to know why you only talked about milwaukee,makita,and metabo HPT. I mean i see a dewalt and i think a kobalt so i just wanted to know why whe others from the background were left out.

@@zylent8251 They were both high quality till about 5 years ago when they were respectively made in Japan and Germany. Now, they're all made in China. They still make decent tools, but they're not exceptional or anything. German Metabo even lies by putting "made in Germany" on the box, while the actual tool says "made in China"

I'm kinda surprised the milwaukee won for accuracy. Lol I have to re calibrate quite a bit I feel like. I can't get it diled in for some reason. I lo love the saw but that's my only problem ,and it's kind of a big one lol
I own the Makita and the Milwaukee. The Mikita is a far better saw except for weight and the stupid laser. The Milwaukee dust collector has broken 3 times now. The Milwaukee also has problems with accuracy, a lot of flex in the head rails.
What happen to the dewalt and what looks like kobalt in the video?

The 10" Milwaukee is great for just about everything unless it requires a high level of precision. It's ok for trim as long as it's paint grade. I wouldn't use it on anything requiring a very precise cut. There's too much movement in the saw and not enough power. It likes to hollow out cuts, even with a nice thick blade
I had the same problem.. its almost impossible to get multiple 45 bevel cuts in a row.
@toolboxbuzz. I’d be curious to see how the Milwaukee holds up on accuracy over the course of time. I loved the saw out of the box and for close to a year. When it came to cutting bevels a few months back, things were off. I purchased a digital angle reader and found I was getting up to 2.75 degrees slop in bevel angle when at the 45 deg stop on both sides. The saw was still under warranty so I had it serviced at a local center. Shop said the saw was fine and that if dust builds up in the housing for bevel handle the stops will not fully engage causing said slop. I have not put it back to the test as the FlexVolt I purchased to ‘fill in’ is outstanding and super accurate. Everything about the Milwaukee batteries life and weight is great, but with the cost of building materials skyrocketing this seems like a bit of a fatal flaw (especially where the saw already lacks in dust collection). And yes, normal tool maintenance is part of my daily routine. Tech suggested taking the rear dust port off the saw and blowing the bevel housing out with compressed air. We will see I’ve mounted the saw back on a stand so I will put it to the test. As a sole proprietor, issues like this are not only expensive, but also very time consuming as a professional. Hopefully this will help she’s some light on the ‘I hate this saw’, ‘this saw sucks’ etc. If this maintenance is in fact the fix, then it should be information readily available to consumers. As it sit right now though, there are a large number of 10” Fuel owners who see that Milwaukee rolled out completely redesigned 12” & 7 1/4” cordless saws, basically realizing the design flaws in the 10” saw.
