Montezuma and Eureka are both the same top speed as Betsy, 16mph. If you want something quick for early game, I'd go with the Glenbrook (24mph). Cars stopped derailing due to physics issues with the switch to UE5. The props, facilities and industries use your camera direction as a grid, so alligning those to tracks can be tough. There's a bug that causes industries to receive double the supplies you offload. You still get regular pay though, might want to go with hard industry difficulty to counteract that. Also logs and other items that get shortened on the small cars are still treated as regular cargo without any disadvantage. Passenger cars have been added to the game, but currently they don't serve any purpose, so no reason to buy them.
2-axle logging is now just OP. There is practically no reason to go for the 4-axles if you want to just transport logs. On the other hand, the cordwood 2-axles are an absolute joke, having just 1/3 capacity of the 4-axles. The same for tanker cars. 2-axles take 2 drops of oil, 4-axles take IIRC 14 and 16. Also, Mosca goes 25, and has decent tractive effort, so a very good general mid-game locomotive, and its relatively cheap. Definitely recommended. Also, Climax got a speed boost and now it goes 12mph. Definitely not bad, and is not very competitive compared to Heisler. Especially if you have a short super-steep railroad and you need a single-use puller/pusher. However I have to say that Montezuma is now probably the worst starting pick, as it just cannot climb at all. With a handful of empty cars it struggles against 3%. If you have over four fully loaded 2-axles, you can very much forget about climbing any sort of incline.
@@pavelslama5543 I'd still go for the regular old logging cars as it's easier to allign them with the cranes and the gregg cars all have a tendency to derail for no apparent reason. Plus the logs contracting and expanding is just ugly. I tested all the engines recently and Mosca did 22, but it's pretty much up there alongside the Glenbrook thanks to the higher tractive effort. Climax isn't even worth discussing in the same context. I agree on Montezuma being the worst though, it needs a much higher top speed to have a use.
I know right. I think it was maybe because I think Hyce payed for it in their save, and Kan just doesn't pay attention to the names. Since Hyce always called it the tweetsie and never referred to the actual name...
The industry placing also goes in line with the fact they have a save for download on the discord that is just a blank map of the first map for download so you can place industries wherever you want as well to make it even more sandboxy
LMAO watching Kan just casually walking between the rails slowly cutting down trees as we can hear the train getting faster and closer. I just automatically add Hyce's danger music in my head.
I just started the new map today. Has connected the timber camp with the sawmill with loops at both ends. Chose Shay as locomotive (forgot how slow it is). Now have 14 carts, 6 for lumber, 6 for sawmill products and 2 for Cordwood. By the way, it was your videos that made me buy the "game", thanks for that. I see it as a model railway for those of us who don't have room for one in the real world.
Did you place your own industry? I did, and its not easy to get to some of them (the logging camp is in the top right corner, and you have to go through the canyon to get to it. If you do it like that, you really need the Shay from the get go. Neither Montezuma nor Porter will get you anywhere once you put logs on those cars. 2% incline and they are dying. 3% and they are dead.
@@pavelslama5543 I haven't placed industry myself, I think I'll try where the developers have placed them first. I have a very long 2% rise to smelter. First trip up was with Porter 0-4-2ST. It had 6 small empty wagons in front and 12 behind it, the last 6 being loaded with cordwood. It came up without any problems. But damn the little wagons are alive when you have to go down again.

So good to see you in Railroads Online again! The new map definitely provides new challenges, and some interesting Easter eggs. If you use the Place Industry ability, you can fly around the map at high speeds so you can get an idea of where the industries are.
You already had to pee in a cup. I'm sure Hyce will be saying "KAAAAAN!!!" when he watches this. I'll enjoy watching you play this, and it'll always be the new division of the Central Rio and Pacific in my heart.
As someone who played RO for a while, then stopped, the only new locomotives I see is the Lima, def new. Looks like a fine line between Narrow and Standard gauge.
East Tennessee and Western North Carolina! I live in that area, we still have several old stations and even an old bunkhouse left. This area used to be a big logging destination and there are several mines along the line too. Most of them stopped hauling freight back in the 80s but GSMR opened up as a scenic run back in late eighties or early nineties. I was in grade school when it did and we got to ride on one of its early runs. I actually worked on it as an attendant not to long ago. They actually have a steam engine run, the 1702, but it's not a ET&WNC, it's a European model from WWII. There are also several cars from the early 1900s, including several that were used as troop transports during WWII. Modified, of course.
Or say that the Lake valley Railroad doesn't even know they are permanently loaning you the cars. With how your railroad is going to treat safety regulations, it's not a big stretch to assume they would be above a little theft.
The Class 48 is still one of the best early engines. It had the power and you don't have the tender to worry about. Only down side is small fuel pile, but isn't that big of a deal.
love to ssee you back on railroad online! i have been waiting forever for yall to get back to it! i hope we get more episodes of you and hyce doin more railroads online!

@kAN Gaming, got to look at placing & removing Industries, Signs with custom Text, hidden Easter Egg. Welcome back. People are using plain posts to mark alongside the track, how far to pull out of the station for loading/unloading, making lining up with the platform easier.
Theres a nice little spot for an industry like an iron or coal mine under the pride rock outcrop area of the mountain you were looking at, at 18:20. It's just large enough to fit a loop in and then have a siding for loaded hoppers and Betsy or a class 48 up there for shunting.
I think a fun video might be to lay a track up a hill and load a unit up such that the big engine (once you get there) cannot make the grade fully loaded, but you make it by adding Betsy. You have to roll all the way back to some industry, grab Betsy, set her to "SEND", and make the grade.
For better braking i try to put the nearest car to the trains brake facing the cab. i like the class 48 and the glenbrook as my early engine. but i haven't touched the Eureka in a while would be cool to see as long as there are no hills lol or if its fast now?
Imagine if you could cut into the terrain by the logging camp... or anywhere for that matter... Would be cool if you could dig away terrain to lay tracks, but if you wanted to make a tunnel through rock, you'd need a tunnel bore and track layer...

I think those new small cars may be good for very sharp curves or sudden grade changes because of their very short wheelbase so they seem very suitable for mountain routes where sometimes there‘s not much space for longer curves or soft inclines. It‘s my first time seeing this new map in railroads online so i don‘t know the location of the other industries and which obstacles are between them. It also would be very cool to see a small mountain railway going up on at least one of those higher mountains (such i described before) on this map and maybe even building a small town on top of them with those new available buildings if possible. Maybe there are mountains with a plateau on top of them, which could be suitable for this. Then you may be able to run Betsy and some small cars up and down this mountain having a nice view of the map. Maybe you can also use the „smaller caboose“ as a passenger car for Betsy. It would be nice seeing more of this map also together with Hyce.
