Thanks man. Just to clarify. The you need to download the system software on to a usb flash drive and then insert that flash drive in to one of the PlayStation ports. Insert the HDD in to the PlayStation and turn on the system. But does the PS3 format the hard drive to Fat32 or do you have to do that separately?
Yes you have to download the software for the ps3 onto the flash drive and put in the new hard drive and you will have to format the usb drive before you put the software onto the ps3 drive Thanks for watching :)
What was wrong with your old hard drive? Was it stuck in an update loop or were the games not loading? Asking for myself bc my PS3 is stuck in an update loop where my PS3 throws error "8002f14e" as soon as it reaches 30%
My ps 3 fat must be dead i tryed everything drom doing this in video to connecting hdd to laptop restarting to factory and formating it in laptop but when i hold start and select to find file to download new update cant find it but its not saying that it cant find it its just stuck on cheching screen like 20minutes than it sayes serious problem has happend or something i even tryed new hdd still same stuff !
@whitestpanther it's the same thing with the 4.90 update, but with a new hard drive installed, but the downside is that the NEW hard drive installation stops at 98%.
Devi sperare di non aver mandato in blocco la ps3 a me è successo con una delle 3 e la soluzione era riattaccare l'hard disk quello suo originale(E non formattarlo mai e poi mai e importantissimo clonalo possibilmente) e reinstallare direttamente il cfw nel suo hard disk originale... Poi lo togli e metti il nuovo hard disk e vedrai che stavolta ti farà l'installazione . Praticamente lhdd originale della ps3 continente una specie di codice che toglie il blocco della ps3 e ti permette di reinstallare il firmware , miraccomando mai formattarlo assolutamente e fanne copia perche se la ps3 ti si blocca e quell'hard disk suo originale lo hai formattato sei fottuto. (Attenzione formattato intendo solo tramite computer)
Se ipotesi hai formattato per sbaglio il suo hdd originale fortunatamente il rimedio e comprare un hdd originale della ps3 su internet o usare quello di un'altra ps3 qualsiasi se ne hai altre a patto che non sia mai stato formattato e formattato intendo non da ps3 ma da computer !!

The apps were crashing the drive was failing

Io con quel tuo problema ci ho combattuto tantissimo e dopo 1 mese ho scoperto questo enorme problema, girovagando incessantemente su internet

my usb drive gives errors with my PS3 it's called error 8001003A.
For my NEW hard drive, the hard drive stops installing at 98%. Which is tedious asf.
