This video is actually inspired by a concept Brian Manzella introduced several years back - the Pull Back, Run Up and Jump. That concept lays out that the pros have their left shoulder work in three distinct motions that allow them to hit the ball so solid. In this video I’ll take you through those lead shoulder motions and explain how they help you get shaft lean and a shallow angle of attack and ultimately help you hit the ball better

Very well explained. I can't believe this info is free. I've seen plenty of videos and so far this one is the best when it comes to ball striking methodology. I'm just learning to do this and get the feel for it but it does take some time to learn the feel because that is what this part of the swing is all about. Not about trying to hit the ball harder but to execute all the moves in rhythm as a feel like when throwing a baseball. I can feel more ball now then ground and it is definitely a distinct sensation which is new to me and I been playing for several years. Thank you for sharing this info as I'm sure it's going to change some lives....

Love it. Coincidentally, I’m working this feel currently on the range. Really is helping. Can think: get the shoulder down on the backswing. Then switch to keep the left shoulder low thru the ball....and keeping my right shoulder driving thru the shot.
I think the low shoulder thru the ball thought also keeps my left hip low (and rotating). The other thought is : don’t it the ‘wall”: spin / rotate the left hip ( don’t slide).

Two focused thoughts : Left shoulder working down and left arm in a straight line with the shaft at impact. Contact pure every time. Eric , you did a video similar to this last fall and it saved my iron game. Also on a random live chat I asked “what about instructors that teach spine tilt ?” Your two word answer “RUN AWAY” . Game changing vid for players that drop the right shoulder.

Great video Eric. What I found interesting was that at 5:58, just at impact, his club is almost perfectly vertical and his hands are just ever so slightly ahead of the clubhead. So often we hear that you have to have a great deal of shaft lean at impact, or your hands have to be way ahead of the club, but this video illustrates that that clearly is not the case. The wrist hinge has been completely released at impact, and the head of the club has caught up to the hands at this point.

      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

Develop a fundamentally sound descending blow into the ball. Your shoulders are just along for the ride. Best tip I ever received that changed my iron play forever? Loose relaxed arms swing faster than tense arms. And forward shalt lean? Do it half as much as you think you should. Also this: A descending blow actually gives you more room for error than trying to cleanly pick the ball. You may take too deep a divot but you will always hit the ball first, then the ground. Attack angle is key and when you get it right, the ball sizzles with a penetrating flight. When trying to cleanly pick, you can hit it fat/thin if you are not perfect. I know, developing a descending blow is easier said than done but for iron play it is pretty much a necessity. A good drill to get on the right track is to practice taking divots by keeping the trailing wrist slightly cupped going into impact. That slight cupped trailing wrist will also keep the club face square because the wrist is not flattening and rotating over until well into the follow through, post impact. See 5:30 for Adam Scott's slightly cupped trailing wrist at impact. Good luck out there. Once upon a time I hated irons. Now they are my favorite part of the game.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому +1

Hey Kevin! Thanks for the message!
It's OK to not turn as much during the backswing....but it can limit some factors....
      1. How much depth you can get of club, arms and hands.
      2. How much speed you can create (distance)
It would be OK to have a little bend in arms.
Having backswing turn is like having a Ferrari. You don't NEED one...but its sure nice to have....and the best seem to have it :)
You can get from point A to point B in a Honda (less turn) ...maybe won't pick up as many chicks for it works :)

Nice tip. Another simple way to do the same thing is ---> Keep your chin stable and bring your left shoulder under chin on back swing and then bring your right shoulder under the chin on downswing. Tip to keep the chin stable is to hold a TEE in your teeth and keep it pointed at ball.

I've found that I have to work in practical terms for best results when it comes to my golf swing. That said, I've figured out that if I don't even look at the ball and I just focus on digging a little hole(divot) right in front of the ball, that one thought makes this happen for me beautifully. I just make that divot my target. Try that sometime people who struggle with this. Don't overthink it, just hit out that little divot and forget about the ball until you're watching it fly on the green.

    • @CogornoGolf

      Yes...lots of options.
Inherently this video is all about internal cues, as you know, which there are a lot of options for.
External-feeling the clubhead working more narrow early, wider later. Longer "flat spot"....wider circle at the bottom....clubhead working more level to the ground through impact vs more DOWN.

It helps me to a) find a better connection with the ball strike b) for longer irons , easier to strike-thru and up c) the idea of taking it thru and up helps me to complete the swing with better weight transfer from left to right foot : ) ... I'm a bit confused by one of your comments regarding the movement of the left shoulder. In your video you share that the left shoulder should move down, IN, and back. However, in Brian Manzella's April 2015 article that he wrote for Golf magazine, he states that in the backswing the left shoulder actually moves down, then OUT, specifically 5 inches out and then back. Could you please clarify this for me?

    • @CogornoGolf

    Hi Eric.
Not taking it away from you Eric but you are making the golf swing so technical difficult!!!!!!
    Everybody naturally moves differently.
    Age, body build, flexibility.
You cannot expect everybody to do what you are showing them.
Everyone as a natural golf swing its down to a good coach to bring that out of them.
I know you favor George Gankus his Brill also but he is the same as you.
Look up Terry Bradley on the 2/6 easy golf swing with only to swing thoughts.
Now thats a way to learn to play golf.
You seem a nice guy and I would like to say thankyou for your free content on line.
    Good for golf.
    Thanks

possibly the worst thing any golfer can do (whilst playing golf.) it is the left chest that rotates.

@@CogornoGolf de nada. it is the left side of the head that presses down, when you start down, and not the left shoulder.

To me this is common sense. If you are tilted forward at address, do a one piece takeaway; then your shoulders cannot help but follow this path. Yes, if you stand up in your backswing, then this path will not happen.

Why The Pros Hit Their Irons So Solid: 5,000 range balls a week for 10, 20, 30 years.

  • @plus2golfer12

They hit their irons so solid because they've hit then a million times... Look in a certified instructor as well but there's nothing I can teach you that will work if you don't put in the effort and there's some of you not coordinated enough to ever be below a 10 handicap... Yeah it pisses people off to be told that but I'm not a miracle worker.. I'm a teacher, I give you the information and it's up to you to earn the results

"ABC ABC" is a little flagrant with his comment but he is probably thinking what I'm thinking - without some intense supervision over learning this concept you could be ingraining one of the worst moves in golf - coming up and out of your swing too early.

Too complicated! To hit like a pro, go play and practice everyday like them for a good 2 yrs. i guaranty you'll hit it solid. Unless your body is shaped like them then you can think about the mechanicals. But u dont need his complication of the mechanics. Go hit balls and have fun cause u aint no pros
