  • In this video, I'll show you why you need to keep your left shoulder down in downswing and how it helps you become a complete ball-striker. When you nail this position it makes it easier to strike the ball first and then turf second gaining more distance and accuracy with your irons. This works for golfers of all handicap and skills levels and improves your overall golf swing.
    When you're able to keep the left shoulder down in downswing, it keeps you in posture and a greater chance of striking the golf ball solid at impact. Practice with move with slow deliberate repetitions at first and gradually build up speed to hitting full shots. Enjoy the feeling of hitting more solid and accurate golf shots and having more fun on the golf course.

    Just so you viewers know this is a very very detailed explanation. He’s giving you a very good lesson here. Most you tubers don’t explain that the downward shift is very very fast and people throw their right side out to go fishing as a result.

    Something that has helped me with the feel of this is: top of the swing, at that split second as my weight just begins to shift I think of keeping my back to the target just a fraction of a second longer. Doing this seems to keep me from bringing the left shoulder up too soon and I hit it really solid.

    Yeah this is an underrated tip. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a solid short game bc I do this on a smaller scale, very well. I could never figure out what it was that made me so inconsistent with full swings. I didn’t keep the left shoulder down for that split second and as a result, have hurt the right side of my lower back. But I’m glad I figured it out from this video, now the coiling is released naturally when I swing correctly.

    Hi Troy, I just came upon this video and it is a real eye opener for me. I have been trying to improve for years, and this piece has eluded me. Looking at both old and current videos of my swing shows that the first move I am making in the downswing is my left shoulder going up, leading to dreaded early extension. Thanks so much for the simple explanation, and I will be working on this a lot over the winter!

    This is key, i think in terms of pulling with the lead leg at the start of the downswing. That feel of pulling lowers me into a squat like position but maintaining my angles of the upper body and shallows and sets my club in a position so i can push away from the ground when rotating into my lead hip. Arms and hands just following along controlling/stearing the club. Its a very subtle move just at the start of the downswing but crucial in so many ways.

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ken, with irons you want to be hitting more down on the golf ball. Driver is hitting more up. The pulling up with the left shoulder happens after the strike. There's not much tilting back as such. Does that make sense? Cheers

    Has anyone ever added up how many moves an amateur golfer needs to practice and remember in a split second of a golf swing…..from evaluating your lie…the wind…the target…to lining up your target…to addressing the ball…etc…..hundreds I would think….I think it would help if a golf instructor would just teach a very simple swing for a high handicap golfer and then move up to a lower handicap golfer etc…..this instructor is one of the better teachers online compared to many others with all these so called secret moves….their are no secrets….ask Ben Hogan…he said he learned the game by digging it up from the ground….thousands of hours and balls are required to lear; this game and very few actually improve….in my book…without it…

  • @pohoresky

    High Troy- Great video and really important. Getting left shoulder down as first move in down swing can be deceptive as a first move from the top. Getting left shoulder down does not mean getting left shoulder down lower than right shoulder as this is what I first thought. That was a mistake to think that on my part and this thought threw me off for the longest time.. Really both shoulders go down as a first move not just the left shoulder. The first move down is a centring or squatting motion if you will, not an isolated move of the left shoulder down as you suggest. Hope this helps unless I am mistaken.

Any suggestions on my problems with it? Thanks!!

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Kevin, I'd say if you focus on getting more rotation is really key for you. Also, don't forget the swallowing aspect of the club in the downswing. The mass will move forward but should recentre as you get closer to impact. It's not unusual to hit a lot of fat shots when doing this for the first time. It will take a number of repetitions to get it right. Check your set up as well. I've got a video coming out this week that will help you with that. Cheers

      Hi Andrew, there's no magic amount it needs to go down as it's different for all golfers. I'd say if at present, your left shoulder it raising up too quickly you'll need to feel it going down even though ... exaggerate it. The left shoulder only goes down for a split second, so it's a quick movement before rotating up and behind you. For you, it may work to feel it moving only a couple of inches, it just depends on your current swing tendencies. Hope that helps. Cheers
