  • Client had this system installed end of Summer 2020 and has had several issues this year, including water dripping from her soffit. I take a close look at the overall installation, along with the graveyard the installer left in this ladies attic. You can't make this stuff up.

Sippy Cup's attitude pisses me off. He has no idea the world of opportunity being presented to him, yet his demeanor clearly shows he doesn't care and it's a burden for him to be there with Mikey. I'd give that young'n a serious talk and give him another week to show some serious improvement or he would find himself back looking for work at Starbucks. The opportunity to learn from a master like Mikey isn't something that comes along every day. If he wants to piss it away, give it to someone who does want it.

My grandfather taught me that a helper should have the next tool/ part in your hand when the journeyman turnes around for it , you have to pay attention & focus on the job at hand & know the work, he should have at least had his head stuck up there watching you. Note, I have used the sawed female adapter more than once it works, also if you can use electrical pvc 90s on drain, long radius less cloging better flow with gravity feed. I'm in Hou, Tx our attics average 150+deg in summer, hydrate hydrate hydrate!

In a pinch with that drain fitting, you could take a female threaded pvc 3/4" adapter and cut about a 1/2" (with hacksaw) off the threaded side and use that piece like a nut. Tighten it up nice with a pair of pliers and it'll hold fine. Those drain pans without the threaded bungs molded in suck.

Sounds like a lack of work ethic amongst some companies. Even if it is hot as hell in an attic during summer time, there is no reason not to clean up after you. The company who changed my ductwork in South Florida removed most of the old ducts but left some bits at the far end of the attic thinking I would never see it... I saw it when I came to check something else, luckily it was not much left. I am a nerd, I have to learn how things work and I like my house running like clockwork.

Work like this is why I DIY. If I have to go around after the "professional" fixing everything he screwed up why pay him at all? I know there are some really good techs out there, the trouble is _finding_ one--you never really know what kind of work they are going to do unless you get references and then actually go look at the job they did and that gets to be a huge time-sink.

What ever happened to tradesmen taking pride in their work? Do it right and always clean up after your work. If that means also cleaning up a previous mess, just take care of it. Even in a non accessible attic your work should look like you knew what you were doing and that you cared. Be it big or be it small, do it right or not at all. Hackery kills the golden goose for all in the trade.
Also it should be required and expected that attics need floors where equipment is located. At least 24 inch wide path from the entrance to the equipment and where ever there are components needing service. And there needs to be a light and a receptacle available at the equipment.

You also know that the homeowner would have a fit with all the dirt that would have been dragged through the house. That “spring cleaning” by itself would probably be a days work for TWO Sippy Cups

What I think happened is the lead had his apprentice mock-lead that day, and at the end of the day they both said "looks good from my house" and left for the next city over. Levity aside, that's the type of customer that just needs to be taken care of regardless. They obviously have bigger problems at hand in their life. BUT, as you mentioned, they do like to TALK... not very smart doing a bad job there, regardless of their status. Next time Sippycup can't find somethin on the truck, just have him go back and look near the fallopian tubes or aluminum magnet. That's one of my favorite things to do to see where my new helpers are at, comedically, intellectually, and how thick their skin is.

One of my best customers over the years had a cluttered house, news papers stacked 4' high through the house, Very Nice Lady. When she passed away, they found over $80 Grand in those newspapers and her husband, which was drinking coffee in the back room, True Story! her son didn't know she had got remarried and every time he came over, the guy was in the back room and never came out, I never seen him either, and she was always talking about a guy, her son and I just thought he was a made up person to keep her company, but he helped clean out the clutter and lived there a couple more years till he passed away as well.

That’s was a sh&t show in the attic. For the other company not to take the old equipment out of the attic and old material for what they charged is a disgrace. I just shook my head at our tin knocker when he was dumping old ductwork onto the client’s lawn, which I think they may I have leak in the water sprinkler line because the area was Saturated and muddy. Instead of taking the ductwork around where it was dry and throwing it directly into the truck. But some people are oblivious. Good job. I know those attics can get really hot and nasty.

You should carry some floor sanding/refinishing cards with you, I guess Valley Stream is turning into Queens. Tell them to install a pull down stair to remove all that crap up there.

I guess where she lived no permits were needed to install equipment, do people not have contracts with these yoyos they hire to get in writing what the heck they are buying. No excuse for leaving all that old ductwork and crap in the attic. It tees me off to see some of the crap that some installers do . No insulation in attic OMG !

Did that unit have a hot water coil? I seen 2 copper stubs off the top of it? Why would they put a unit like that there when it's not necessary 😕

Now this is some hackassed work. I bet they left the ac graveyard up in the attic thinking the lady would never notice due to the condition she keeps her house in. They took her money and ran.

Sand your ladder to stop fiberglass splinters in your skin.
Clear flex seal seems to work

Isn’t that a hydronic heat coil air handler? Looks like they just didn’t hook anything to the hydronic coil
