IDK how you got the timing so right, Bailey and Dark History team!!! I have been struggling with a 1300 word paper in college about capital punishment and shady prisons this past week, and I used your video to help my research (that you magically released right when I was feeling hopeless about finishing my paper) Not only did I turn it in on time, but I shared your video with the class, and everyone enjoyed it! Y’all should actually print the dark history book and sell it for merch. Make a sized replica of the book used in the videos and fill it with the scripts from each episode at the end of the year. They’d be entertaining and educational and you could release a new volume each year like entertaining historical encyclopedias

I'm a lawyer in Louisiana, and there could be an entire book on the state of privately owned prisons here ... really, more like an encyclopedia series of the prisons for profits here ... one small example, in East Carroll Parish, there's a prison there that also operates as the local jail. People from Baton Rouge get sent up there when the jail in Baton Rouge overflows. Because the women's wing only functions as a local jail and holding facility for other parish jails, it isn't under Department of Corrections rules. There are times when they've gone without power or running water for days and the food is literally delivered in crates marked FDA condemned. Because the DOC rules don't apply to them, they aren't required to have a back up generator, nor are they required to feed anything nutritious ... people would come back from there malnourished because unless their families sent them money, they were SOL on food. Oh, and they don't even provide basic necessities like underwear or bras. If you can't buy those, you're also SOL. its absolutely disgusting...and these are people who haven't even been convicted of anything yet. Some of them are even sent there for two to three months for missing court on a speeding ticket. Like I said...a whole series could be written about the state of things here, but the bottom line is no one really cares. At least not enough to make a difference.

Bailey, it means so much that you use your platform to talk about important topics. Please consider looking into the troubled teen industry--many residential centers and 'schools' claim to be nonprofits yet their administrators mysteriously make upwards of $500k/year. I know of a homeless shelter, that makes residents"volunteer" their time at a local entertainment venue, and that shelter gets paid thousands in "donations" while the head of the non profit pockets most of it. The homeless were also being exploited. This happens way too often to the poor and undesirables.

The problem never gets close to being solved, because that’s the end of the gravy train. CA cleaned up for the President of China’s visit, why can’t they address the problem the other 360 days of the year. Check it out. It’s all public records.

This is amazing! I'm glad someone is talking about this. While I haven't been to a prison, I was convicted by the feds on a very questionable case where I was ordered to repay some money I'd received.
Long story short, they found an equally bunk way to violate my probation and threaten me with 25 years in prison or to accept being on house arrest. Mind you I had no criminal history whatsoever besides this white collar situation that could have been seen as utter BS but I digress...
Anyway. The monitor on my ankle started off a storm of physical ailments including rashes all over my body, swollen joints, burning blisters inside my mouth and even on my scalp.
But they assured me the device was completely safe.
I struggled through that for a year where I wasn't even allowed to step foot out my front door if it wasn't for work or medical or religious services. Me. A Grandma with two college degrees and no history of crimes, addictions or anything nefarious.
Anyway, after I was done with all of that debocle I started researching the devices and of course found out that they have caused major health issues for many people but the company that makes them pays billions in lobbying to get permission to get these things on as many people as possible. Basically the devices are owned by private prison companies who push to get prisoners on house arrest because it's a bigger money maker.
Turns out the courts have ordered they're a violation of civil rights so no judge will order them BUT if you agree to waive a hearing (because you've been threatened with 25 years) then it's hunky dory.
The feds are criminals as well as the DOJ. They're worse than street thugs.

    I spent 3 1/2 years in prison.
When I first went I was sent to a state owned prison where guards would lock you in a room and try to sleep with you, girls were getting their heads bashed in the bed frames during fights and all the guards did was laugh, and the cafeteria had rats and ducks running around
After being there for awhile and my security level dropped I was moved to a private prison with a salad bar, 5k runs where the news came out to see how well the prison was treating us, college courses, and AA meetings. Still there were guards giving girls chlamydia and fights but not nearly as bad or scary.

Sometimes I can’t believe these things actually happened. Like the holocaust is so insane to me. Paying 12 cents to watch someone get whipped?? Like what?

I mean, white people would have picnics, with the entire family, whilst watching black people get lynched. It was literally a "family event" here in the south.

Well, there was subliminal messages during the Holocaust, to make the G’s hate the J’s. And for both of these there’s some clear mob mentality. But for the life of me, I could never explain how so many people thought it was ok to enslave fellow human beings. The cruelty that goes into that..

People paid to watch Edison electrocute an elephant. Some humans are beyond understanding.

Me neither. It makes me angry the way people of color and women were treated back than (and still today). It’s just weird to me that white men back then literally thought that they ruled the world and thought that everyone else was property. I just can’t imagine thinking like that about someone else. It’s really sad to me that people of color and women have only had rights for a couple hundred years or less.

When you went into “leased prisoners” it made me think back to the scenes in the movie LIFE where Claude and Ray worked for the man who owned the prison. Things that make you go “hmmmm🤔”
