  • Hi friends, happy Thursday!
Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Today, we are going to talk about how the media’s reporting on a basketball superstar’s overdose kicked President Regan’s War on Drugs into overdrive and led to incredibly harsh punishments for crack users vs. cocaine. Even though crack and cocaine are the same damn drug.
I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more dark history.
You can find Dark History podcast on Apple, Spotify, wherever you listen to your podcasts, and every Thursday here on my UA-cam for the visual side of things.

TOPIC SUGGESTIONS: The Diné (Navajo) children being taken from their families and forced into US Gov't boarding schools where they were not allowed to speak their native language, live their culture, or see their families (this was happening until only about 50 years ago); and the Japanese internment camps run by the US during World War II. They are both along the same lines of some sad, dark history of the US. How does that saying go: what we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat. I think that especially applies to the bad choices!

Hi Bailey! Just a suggestion for dark history - I would love to see the radium girls get more attention. They were the unwitting champions of safety regulations for workplaces... in the worst way possible. Their bravery for speaking out when they literally had radiation sickness FROM THEIR JOBS was incredible.
Summary: they didn't know the risks of radium and were hired to paint airplane dials, watches, etc with it so they'd glow. To increase the precision of their painting, they were taught to "lip point" their radium covered brushes - roll and pinch the brush between their lips to bring it to a fine point.
Just a suggestion, but it's definitely an underpublicized and VERY dark part of US history.

You should do the history of redlining in real estate and how it still affects minorities and low-income areas today. I grew up in a white, Christian, Conservative home and my family never talked about anything like this, I feel like people who grew up with the same background would benefit from knowing how that all works, it changed my perspective on a lot of things for sure.

    Hello Bailey!
I’d love to hear a dark history in the overthrow of Hawaii. There’s so much dark dark history that comes with how the United States forced the queen to give up her sovereign nation. And how native Hawaiians the culture and race were being pushed to extinction. This has been a problem for so long and people mainly see the state as a vacay hot spot, they’re desecrating scared lands, and tourists mysteriously die or go missing when they cross sacred grounds. There’s sacred waterfalls that were used for sacrifices where mysterious deaths happen in them as well. I hope you see this Bailey!! 🖤🖤

Do you know that when you go to rehab, they tell you, "You probably won't stay sober this time, it usually takes 3-4 revisits before you can stay sober"? That's because they want you to come back. How else are they going to continue making money? I've been clean over 20 years, and it pi**es me off every time I hear this from a newbie fresh out of rehab. Rehab only works if they are truly ready. If rehab's were free for everybody, I would be more inclined to support them. I never went to rehab, so am proof you can do it if you WANT to.
