Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- In this Brother Scan and Cut tutorial, you will learn how to cut out patterned paper. The designer series paper is from the Bird Ballad suite by Stampin' Up! I used Direct Cut, Black & White Recognition Mode and a Blade Depth of 3 to cut the Bird Ballad dsp. I shared some tips on using the CM350 or Scan and Cut 2.
The new Bird Ballad designer series paper will be available on June 4, 2019 in the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog. To receive your new Annual Catalog Survival Kit, place an online order at my Stampin' Up! store by May 31st. There is always a current host code to use on my store site.

I think your little aeroplanes on the DSP are bird footprints. Great tutorial Kim, especially for all of us who hate fussy cutting with a passion! Now saving my pennies for this little gem.
Oh yes, they are bird footprints but I think they also look like airplanes. The birds were not seagulls after all. I thought they were but viewers told me they were barn swallows or swifts. LOL. Thanks for watching.
I just got my Scan N Cut DX 125, and now I will look at designer cardstock in a whole new way!
Oh yes, you are going to look at it and wonder if you can cut out the patterns. That is what I do. Congrats on your new ScanNCut.
Thanks, Kim! Love this paper! I am having so much fun playing with my DX125! Your tutorials has made the learning curve a breeze.
Great Patty, I like to hear that. Your machine will work wonders for you and save you so much time.
Oh BEAUITFUL box , how lucky for who ever gets as a gift , lovely 🥰
Thanks! I'm going to put some finished cards in the tins and give them as gifts or prizes. I have a challenge with my team. I asked them to mail cards to friends and relatives who are NOT on social media. Snail Mail is so much fun to get. That is the challenge and if someone wins the challenge drawing, then they can get a nice prize like this.
I just found you. My scan n cut sits unused on a desk, I got confused with directions. And now the one place I did use is for the new DX machine. Thanks I'll be back. You explain so well.
Awesome Sylvia! Welcome to my channel. Now please go and play with your lonely ScanNCut. It wants to help you craft.

another well informed video Kim thanks for taking the time to film it.
You are very welcome Karen. I made it through even with a scratchy voice. Glad you are watching.
Love that paper collection and what you’ve done with it. Did want to share that the “seagulls” are really either barn swallows or swifts, which goes more with the garden birds overall theme of the paper.
I was wondering why they would put seagulls in there. I didn't even notice that but I thank you for pointing that out because I have some other ideas now where they can be in the background of one of the farm scenes. Still, they needed to be cut out because to have them in the background would be so busy. Glad I have lots of little embellishments. Thanks for watching.
Kim I love that bird and feather paper. I can't wait to see how you decorate your famous Hershey Nuggets with them? I would definitely use my Scan and Cut to make so many embellishments. I always look forward to your videos.
You know me Yvonne, I WILL be decorating Nuggets with these. I think a little seagull will fit on each Nugget. Also, the paper I can't cut out will make good wrappers. So far, I put the Nuggets into the little Tag Treat holders but didn't make the row of 5 yet. I think I will with the Paper Pumpkin kit I haven't opened yet. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Oh boy this is beautiful paper and the SNC did a awesome job cutting it out. Thanks for sharing Kim!!!!!! :-)
Thanks Kathy. I'm seeing a lot of little cut our birds in our future. They are fun to embellish with.
I have just watched 9 of your video's. I appreciate you doing this and showing us how. Those were bird tracks on back of last one. :)
Oh how I love when viewers binge watch my videos. I know that I'm always off on my bird terms. I hope you check out my latest video on Birds of a Feather and how to cut out the cuties using the ScanNCut. Thanks for watching.
I just love your videos. You make it all easy to understand. I was just thinking of cutting the images from this paper pack today. Thank you for your help - I cant wait to cut some birds and feathers! :)
There is so much you can do with these little birds and feathers. There was a Paper Pumpkin kit a few months ago called “Friends of a Feather.” I want to dig that out and see how nicely they play together. Thanks for watching.
Hi Kim, Love the video, Love how they all turned out, TFS, Cheers Anna.
Thanks Anna, I can't wait to try something with the seagulls, especially because I cut 100+ and still have more dsp.
You explain the process so well!!!
Thanks. I work hard at that and it really means a lot for you to take the time to comment!
Love this video. Can’t wait to get my order. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing. Love all of your videos.
Thanks Mary. My catalog order just arrived and I am too tired to open the box so I plan on digging in this weekend.
Another GREAT tutorial!! Thank you for always showing us step-by-step instructions, and tip-and-tricks that makes our BSNC work better 😸. BTW, I live on the east coast of NS, 🇨🇦, (almost surrounded by the ocean) and the birds you called Seagulls look more like Sparrows 😹😸
Catherine, its so funny that I also live by the ocean and I feed the seagulls and didn’t realize they were sparrows. Lol. You are the 4th person to tell me that so you will all get a shout out in my next video. Thanks for your comment about my teaching. It made my day.
@@PaperedChef where do you live?
Gloria Moak I was live inside of Facebook today for my team meeting but I wasn’t live on UA-cam. I think I may go live soon but right now, I’m recording another tutorial on the Hershey Nugget treats.
These are barn swallows...lol...and the great debate continues.
Good job Kim , thanks for sharing, Kim ♥️🥰
Thanks Frenchie, these birds are going to be available tomorrow. Woo Hoo!
If you use color recognition instead of black and white, would it give 100% success rate of cutting all the birds
For the page of small birds, you would get about the same results because the black lines are excellent. There are always parts of my mat and/or scanner which are the same in any mode. For the page with the Pool Party background, the color mode was actually worse because the birds blended together with the background. Whenever there is a black outline, using color recognition wouldn't help and actually takes a lot more time to process.
The birds at 7:16 are Artic Terns and not Sea Gulls.
I figured out that they were not gulls. I’ve heard so many names now from my viewers like swifts, swallows, etc. Someone pointed out that Stampin’ Up! Was going for the garden theme. I thought they were shorebirds because of the blue sky. I need to make a big list of all of Bird names. Thanks for your comment.
@@PaperedChef an Arctic Tern is a type of shore bird, you are right on that point, with the longest migration of any animal. By the way I do love your UA-cam Channel and have used the information for my crafting needs.
Rita Loy I’ve actually seen terns in Alaska so I know what they are but I couldn’t pick them out of a bird lineup. LOL
@@PaperedChef have seen them here in the Los Angeles Area flying both North and South at the beach.
Whoever thought that we would talk about birds so much in my crafting videos. LOL.
Thank you for sharing your videos and knowledge of the Brother Scan n Cut. I have the CM360 however I don't have the trash can? Is there away to add it to my screen?
Thanks Margaret, you will not see the Trash Can until you go into the Editing mode which is the icon with the little shapes. Then, you will see it. It doesn't appear when you first scan in your paper. Which paper are you scanning?
@@PaperedChef the bird paper. After I load the paper and scan it I get to the screen where you can add the border, or ignore object size. On your screen it shows a box above the "OK" button.
Do you have a public email where I could send you a picture of what I'm talking about? I hate to both you with my problem but you are such an expert with this machine! I've learned so much from you.
Margaret Donnellan That Box is for Stamping and Embossing. I have extra features installed.
Margaret Donnellan Sure, just use the Contact form in my site and then we can write back and forth. PaperedChef.stampinup.net
Hi...if I want a green border, how do I get it? Any suggestion is appreciated. thanks
Hi Dolores, you would cut out the first layer and then replace the paper and cut it out again with a larger outline distance. I am assuming you mean that you want a green layer of paper. Either way, this technique is something to try. I showed it in this video. ua-cam.com/video/QCswQhfScOM/v-deo.html
Do you ever hold workshops in your home or public Venue
Gloria, I’ve held workshops at Hobby Lobby and loads of other places. If someone asks to host, I teach workshops at homes so contact me here (PaperedChef.stampinup.net) and if are close, I may be able to get together this summer.

Excellent tutorial. Thanks. But I think they are Swallows not seagulls :)
Oh yes, we have had loads of laughs about this in my follow up videos. They are barn swallows and many people told me all about birds. Thanks for your comment and be sure to check out loads of other things I did using the Bird Ballad dsp and you will also get some good laughs.
beautiful!!!!!
Thanks Jan! I love all of the beautiful birds.
Love it
You are a marvel
Thanks Rosy. I was off my game a little so I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Hi...another great learning video.
@@caroladams3949 Thanks for watching Carol!
Could you use what was scanned and cut; remove from sheet and then place cardstock on the cutting mat so an identical piece would be cut for a thicker embellishment?
Oh yes, you can cut it again. Just change out the card stock and change your blade depth as needed unless you have Autoblade technology. Here is an example of how I outlined sentiments by changing out the paper. ua-cam.com/video/QCswQhfScOM/v-deo.html
Your projects are really nice & beautiful card...tfs
Thanks for your comment Terrie. I'm loving these birds.
