In this tutorial, you will learn how to cut out stamped images using your Brother ScanNCut. The stamp set we will be using is called Beauty Abounds by Stampin' Up! It is a beautiful butterfly set and there are also coordinating dies. The set is featured in the 2019 Occasions Catalog by Stampin' Up! Prior to this tutorial, I stamped butterflies, sentiments and flourish from the Beauty Abounds stamp set. I used Blueberry Bushel ink on Whisper White card stock. To cut out all of the stamped images in this tutorial, we used a blade depth of 4. First, we cut out the butterflies using an outline distance of 0.04." Next, we cut out the "hello" and "thanks" sentiments using an outline distance of 0.08." Lastly, we cut out the flourish. This was a request from one of my UA-cam subscribers named Frechie. I explained how we have to use a pencil to connect all of the open areas of the flourish so that it will scan in as one image and be able to be recognized by the Brother ScanNCut. The flourish was cut out with an outline distance of 0.04" and then the pencil marks were erased prior to removing the cut out images from the mat. Lastly, I shared several projects I created using the Beauty Abounds stamp set and coordinating dies. I explained how there are projects you can create with metal dies which would be almost impossible to cut out using your Brother ScanNCut. Therefore, the products compliment each other. I shared a card and several bookmarks I created using the butterflies and sentiments from the Beauty Abounds stamp set and coordinating Butterfly Beauty thinlets dies. I also acknowledged my friend Annette who helped me create the butterfly card by assisting me with punching out the tiny little pieces. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and related projects and will be inspired to create your own butterfly crafts.

Thank you very much for your prompt response. I really enjoy and learn from your video tutorials. I still have a tuff choice to make. Thank you again.
Any choice you make is better than no choice at all. Thanks for watching!
Papered Chef , I just order the scan & cut SDX 125E through your amazon web site. I can’t wait until I get it and begin scanning using your tutorials. Thank you again, Marilyn Urban
thank you...I needed a refresher course and this was a great explanation.
Thanks Mary, I try to cut out all of my stamps because it is so much fun to have a lot of embellishments. I hope you give this a try with your machine.
Thks a bunch!😍
Anytime! Thanks for watching!
I just LOVE the raspiness of your voice! I own 2 of these machines and look forward to using this technique. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks DeeDee! Glad you find this useful and I see I’m not the only person who uses more than one SNC.
Oh I’m SO happy you did a tutorial on this stamp set! I love this set, but could NOT fussy cut the long scroll flower piece! Thank you so very much yet again for sharing all your knowledge!
Oh yes, we ScanNCut owners never fussy cut! I will spend an hour trying to cut out something with the machine before I give up. Even then, I will not fussy cut it. I will cut around it with a trimmer and end up with a strange shape. Thanks for watching.
You are a very good teacher. Thank you for this tutorial
Lylian Jettar I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Wonderful tutorial! Thanks...you have been my 'go to' instructor for the scan n cut! Love your stampin up cards as well..use both! 💟Wanda
Thanks Wanda. Glad you enjoyed it. I love that I'm your Go To instructor. Keep on watching.
This video was so helpful! Especially for the flourish!..Thank you very much!
Just discovered your tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ve learnt a lot
I’m so glad you discovered my channel and that you are learning new things. Thanks for watching.
I love your tutorials they really help.
Thanks Kimberly! I love to share.
Great tips, learned something new! Cute projects too. Thank you
MyRosieDay, it is my goal that everyone will learn something new even if though I have do so many tutorials on cutting stamped images. Thanks for watching and for commenting too.
great tutorial Thanks I have learnt a lot and feel more confident to use my scan and cut.
Thanks Ann. I love to here it. You will soon be able to work wonders with it and cut out everything you see.
Thank you for tutorial. I figured out what i was going wrong. Very thankful for sharing.
Thanks Mary! I'm glad you figured it out. Glad you are watching!
Thank you!
lovely thank you, scan n cut bit of a mystery to me. reckon I will get more confident now
Dell, so glad to hear this! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
So cool! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Anytime! Glad you like this Melissa! I’ll keep them coming.
Thank you so much. I didn't know how to get rid of those little ink marks inside the space. I will be watching all of your Brother videos. I have had my machine for 5 years and there is so much I still need to learn. I use it a lot but I do get frustrated at time. Thank you much!
Thanks Linda, I’m still learning new ways to use this machine. I love it and I’m so happy to share tips and tricks.
Your videos are such a help I will take some of your courses. Glad to hear where I have made miistakes and cut off heads lol
Oh, we have all cut limbs off while cutting things with the ScanNCut. That is how I first mastered the Color Recognition Mode. I kept cutting the hands off of my witches and then I finally figured out the settings and shared them. I hope you get my courses while they are on sale. I am able to run a sale like that about once a month. Thanks for watching. PAPERED999 is my coupon code until the morning of October 26th.
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I just got a DX!
You are very welcome. I'm getting one this summer so that I too can play with the AutoBlade technology.
@@PaperedChef I have the DX and I think you will like it. It's my first cut machine, so I don't know any better...ha..ha
You are brilliant with that pencil. I am kicking myself that I did not do that!
Well, now you know and from this point on, your crafting experience will be a lot more pleasant and productive. Thanks for watching.
Hello from snowy cold Idaho. I live in Plummer. I just love watching your videos, Im very educated on this machine now even though I bought the DX from HSN Its arriving tomorrow weather permitting of course. I love these stamps and I agree with you on the dies, there are times you do want to buy the dies. I think you really need to study the catalog each stamp set at a time. I believe Im going to be doing videos on my scnc DX as well, with the stamps from stampin up, I think it will help my business as well since Im my best customer.I hope you dont mind. Im not trying to copy you just do it on my machine since there really isnt much out there on the DX yet. Im a tad nervous about doing videos but Im gonna give it a try. I really enjoy your videos, they are so easy to follow. Your voice is easy to listen to, I am hard of hearing so Im able to hear you clearly. Your instructions are really clear as well. I still can not get enough of your videos. And I have most of the stamp sets from the sale a bration catty. Now I want lasting lilly thats the only stamp set I dont have from the free book. Theres a few more from the book as well on my wish list and I will order them right before it ends. You are an enabler lol love this part. And you have made me so excited about crafting again. I kinda lost my thirst due to Im raising three children. Im the grandma. People would tell me they dont have time for crafting because they have kids well now I understand but it just means we really have to make use of our time better. FInd whats important. My motto is home life and my kids first then my crafting comes after. If the chores are done I can relax more crafting while the kids are at school. My girls are 6,10 and 12 and Im very busy with them they are my number one priority. Well anyways thank you for all you do. Your so sweet to take the time to teach other people. Your a real angel in our world. Thank you. And I would love to send you a card do you have a address where I could send to. You can find me on facebook messanger if you like. Happy crafting
Lynn Galvan Your comment really made my day! Oh how fun that you have a ScanNCut on the way! Of course you should make videos. The more tutorials, the better. I teach so many classes on the CM350 and plan on getting the DX this summer and developing a course on it. One idea that comes to mind for you and your Grandchildren is to teach them how to use the ScanNCut and document them crafting. I bet they will come up with designs we would never even think of. Of course it is also good to demonstrate your Stampin’ Up! products as well. There are so many reasons why this machine compliments our SU products. Please contact me using the form on my site. I would love to be Happy Mail pals with you. paperedchef.stampinup.net
Papered Chef your awesome.
Ooooh , thank YOU Kim , that was vary helpful, I did drew on it before I ask you , like you taught me , but I guess I didn’t do enough, but I’m going to try again, thank U , thank U , and I was honored to hear you mention my name , lol, ♥️all your projects are vary beautiful, I have a granddaughter in college, I’m going to make her some Book markers like yours , again thank u , and I need to get me an eraser like yours , do u think the pink ones work, ? Ok have a beautiful weekend, and hugs to you ♥️♥️♥️♥️
You are very welcome and I hope you will share your success after you get it to cut out. I'm glad you like these butterfly projects. I don't like using the pink erasers because they don't work well and they leave marks. Here is the one I recommend. amzn.to/2smEfiv
Greta minds think a like I’ve got a ScanNCut video scheduled using the same stamp set! Well done
Thanks. It is pretty amazing and as you know - there are endless possibilities. I’m one of your subscribers so I will be sure to check out your video too.
The technique i use is to place apiece cellophane over the image and tape to the mat then with a black fine liner pen draw a shape around the stamped image and scan in, then remove the cello and chose to cut the line inwards and cut away. no need for the pencil marks or eraser.
Thanks for sharing your very cool productivity tip. I use something similar when I want to save a shape but I have never tried cellophane yet. I can see how that would save time if I can get it to stick. Is your mat dedicated to scanning? You see how dirty my mats are.
Oh Kim , I ordered me some yesterday, thank you for the tip , how and where can I share my results to you , I’m not to computer savvy, lol 😂
Here is my FB page. It is public so you can post there and even add pics. Thanks! facebook.com/thepaperedchef
I just found your videos and even though I'm a new owner of the S&C DX model, your videos are very helpful. How would you cut out the butterflies that came with the "free" Botanical Butterflies DSP in SAB. I'm talking about the ones that were on the blue background. I tried and created a huge mess as it tried to cut the little specs in the blue background out and I think I almost ruined my mat. Thanks so much.
Oh yes, my tutorials work on any model. For the large butterflies on the blue background, be sure to use Black & White recognition mode. I did a tutorial showing some of the butterfly paper being cut out. ua-cam.com/video/l6mvO3rA72g/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for the video...I was curious if you want to do embossing first with your font does that work with the brother? Also, if you want a rectangle around your sentiments , how you tackle that one? Thanks so much.
Oh yes, as long as there is contrast, you can cut out stamped images. I cut out embossed images too. Thanks for watching Theresa.
How long does a blade last? Thank you for the instructions!!
Hi Cindy, my blades last a few months. Here is how I sharpen them. ua-cam.com/video/tjuhKAsURIc/v-deo.html
Which Brother Scan and Cut machine do you recommend. There are a couple of choices and I am a Stampin Up demonstrator and I would like to purchase on of these machines?
Hi Marilyn, In my opinion, I still like the CM350 better for cutting stamped images but the SDX has so many more features. I love my CM350 or ScanNCut2 because of its consistency and reliability over the years. If you are going to be cutting fabric, vinyl and all kinds of other materials, then you are better off with the SDX125 because of the Autoblade. You don't have to set the blade depth with the SDX models, they are not as noisy and you have so many features including a lot more editing that can be done right from the machine. Please use my links to purchase one even if you don't get the exact one in my link. The links only work for a certain about of time so if you put something in your Wish List and go back, my link is no longer active so please click on it again before you purchase something. It helps support my channel.

Hope you can help me. Just bought the scan'ncut about 2 weeks ago through your link. I'm getting a 1" wide blue stripe right down my scan... The machine is not recognizing my scans where the stripe is because of this blue stripe. Is there a trouble shoot that I can perform or is this broken??
It is not broken! The machine came with light blue packing tape. It must have got caught in there. Unload your mat. Look inside with a flashlight and get the tape out. You may need a pair of tweezers.
@@PaperedChef thank you so much. You are soooo smart... It wasn't the blue tape but I found the door at the bottom and a piece of washi (never going to use that again instead of painters tape) was caught. It is back to being perfect again. Thank you so much for taking time to answer my question. I really am loving my scan'n'cut.
Sandra Johnson great to hear! I never use Washi tape for holding the papers. Like the mats, it just isn’t sticky. I’ve had the tape get caught in my machine before so I knew that is what it was.
I won this set at On Stage prize patrol
Lucky you! Now you can cut out the stamps which sure beats fuzzy cutting!
Just got my Scanncut 2 today.... paid attention to your advice not needing the DX because I only ez t to cut stamped images.
Playing this video again before I attempt anything and just have 1 question. You use painters tape once your mat is no longer sticky enough. I have a ton of wasabi tape so will that work too!
Congratulations Cheri! You will not be disappointed. You do need a wireless activation card at some point but not for a while. Your machine is a work horse and you will love it. I’m going to share a link on restick if your mat. Washi tape comes off so easily and can get caught on your rollers but YES - use Painter’s Tape.
Here is the link to the video about how to restick your mat. ua-cam.com/video/58jX5JKEgzk/v-deo.html
Cheri, Here is the link to information and coupons for my online courses on the CM350. thepaperedchef.com/brother-scanncut-courses
Papered Chef thank you for the links! Been watching your videos again. So far have only attempted to cut from one page of cardstock...the white part around the stamped images isn’t equal all the way around. I remember seeing you correct this in one of your videos but can’t seem to find that today. Do you remember which video it was in or was it possibly in a DX video you made?
Thank you so much for all of your videos. You are the one that actually helped me pull the trigger and order a Scanncut (:
@@1Cheribaby You are in luck because the CM350 gives you a lot of control over fixing the alignment. Here is the video about this. ua-cam.com/video/9hJhQ3cyjxE/v-deo.html
How do you cut the bookmark?
I use the SNC to cut out the bookmark bases. Then, I use this punch. It is my all time favorite Stampin' Up! item and I have used it thousands of times. Here is the link to my store. Tag Topper Scalloped Punch -- bit.ly/2xYLZgf
Question when using stamping can it be used on vinyl
Dan, It depends on the vinyl but most of the time, stamps will spear. You are better off getting printable vinyl or designing your own sentiments and cutting them out in vinyl directly. I wouldn't recommend stamping onto vinyl. There are lots of vinyl tutorials on my channel so feel free to browse through my channel.
I was wounding if I did the stamp on white card stock and then run it through my scan and cut with the image be on the screen and them could I cut it out on vinyl? Thank you I appreciate your classes I’m learning a lot from
How do you know when you should replace your mat?
It all just depends on how much you use your machine. I use mine every day and I use Painter’s tape to help secure the paper. I actually never get rid of my old mats unless I cut right thought them and cat repair them. I take my old mats and first I try to re-stick them using sprays or two-way glue. That works to some extent but they are never like new again. I always like to keep one really sticky mat on hand for detail work. For an average user, I would expect that you could go a couple of months before you need to replace the mat.
Thanks
Could you draw around the whole image instead doing pencil marks here and there...
Thanks for the lesson....I can't believe how much I use my scan n cut now thanks to you.
Yes, of course I could draw around the whole image but then the cut out wouldn't be very detailed. I sometimes just create a shape around a stamped image and cut that out instead of going through the process of outlining it. It all just depends on the look you are going for. Thanks for watching.
I don't see the link to the eraser...
Sorry about that. Here you are. I couldn't find a link to just one but they are pretty inexpensive and it is good to have a couple laying around. • Pentel Erasers -- amzn.to/2smEfiv
Why us the border on your mat black
I go through so many mats that I looked for cheaper ones. The ones in the Sewing section of Amazon are much cheaper than the ones in the Arts & Crafts section so I buy them there. They look a little different but work just fine. amzn.to/2DoKiZ7
When you say you use Whisper White, is it regular WW or Thick WW? If it’s regular does Thick WW cut at 4 too?
Hi Sylvia, I use the regular Whisper White with a blade depth of 4. Thick Whisper White will need a 5 or 6, depending on your machine.
Good Tuesday morning, I want to ask you, can you take a images scan them and enlarge them bigger on the scan an cut? I love the tea pot from stampin up but want to enlarge it. If you could show that please, if it can be done.
Hi Deborah, Oh yes, of course that can be done. You can’t do it in Direct Cut. You have to use Scan to Cut Data. I don’t have that teapot but I can try to do a similar tutorial in the future.
@@PaperedChef I'll be waiting to see that. Thank you.😀
Here it is Deborah. Dedicated to you. ua-cam.com/video/eK0NxZxRjYc/v-deo.html
