- Headcanon voices for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Amidst discussion of Pokemon having voice acting, I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring on who I'd like to voice this cast. I challenged myself not to double-cast with anyone playing a named character in Pokemon Masters (as of December 2022) since I consider those the closest to the "game canon voices". I didn't cast the protagonists since they're not really singular distinct characters as of yet, though I'm excited to see what Masters may do with them one day. Also this isn't really me trying to cause discourse like "See it DOES need voice acting!!!", it's just for fun.
Audio clips are intended as actor references and not exactly what I imagine everyone to sound (though I got some weirdly good in-context ones this time ngl).
Since this is quickly becoming my most common comment - yes, I'm aware Grusha is a guy! I cast him as Marin Miller, a nonbinary voice actor who has voiced a lot of male and female characters and who I thought fit his androgynous design. I'm very aware of his gender, it was an intentional choice on my part, ha ha.
You should pin this comment so people who will check the comments will be aware and not ignorantly comment that "Grusha is a guy" over and over again

Not only did you choose voices perfectly, but the voice LINES used for them fit so well to who they are

Live-A-Live has some good voice acting, and I can see the relation between Atticus and Oboromaru - they’re both ninja. However, Atticus speaks with prose more befitting of the Middle Ages chapter, like Oersted or Streibough. Maybe even Hasshe.
Yeah, like Turo. His lines are incredible and so in character.
Ryme had absolutely perfect lines
First seeing Nemona’s dialogue in game, I imagined she would have a Spanish accent because she says things like “Oye” and “Vamos”. But her voice here still fits. I feel these are all voices that they would have in the anime.
I didn't imagine her specifically with an accent but did make sure to choose a Spanish-speaking actress specifically for that reason, lol.
I'm from Latin America and... honestly I think it's quite unnecessary to put an accent on the characters. By the same logic that many anime characters don't speak with a Japanese accent in other languages or Disney princesses don't speak with an accent in films
The protagonist of the game was born and raised in Paldea, so for him everyone in his homeland are compatriots, he listens to everyone as natives. Everyone there is speaking Spanish, but no one there sees themselves as foreigners. Everyone there is native.
The best way to repeat the effect in English is for the characters to speak in English. It's as if there was software translating into the player's language.
I would only put accents on characters proven to be from outside of Paldea. Japanese to Kantonians, Johtonians, Hoennese and Sinnohans and French to Kalosians.
However, I would have to put the characters from Unova or Galar speaking a type of English accented Gibberish or a broken English to make it clear that they would be seen as foreigners by the protagonist...
@@user-uo8gw2li2qwell nemona isn’t actually from Paldea she said she moved there wheb she was 7, I always imagined her being from a region based off a different spanish speaking country. (Maybe she could be from Orre since its based off Arizona which borders on Mexico)
You basically nailed Nemona and Arven; side note what you put for Eri works, but I think it would be hilarious if she was voiced by the VA who voiced Luisa from “Encanto.”

You have such a talent for matching voices to characters! The only ones that didn't quite fit for me was Rika and Geeta. I imagined Geeta to have like a foreign accent with her name, and overall character model, potentially Indian. As for Rika, I dont really have a comparison but I would imagine Rika sounding like Uranus from Sailor Moon. I really loved all the other ones. It was really impressive that the clips you chose to feature kind of played into the characters story or personality. Nice work!
Thank you! I got really lucky on a lot of these clips matching character context, ha ha, that doesn't usually happen. And yeah, I can imagine those! Geeta for some reason I just ALWAYS imagined as Meli Grant for some reason, I think just because she always sounds very dry and smug to me. And Rika's my favorite character and Morgan Berry's one of my favorite voice actors and is my go-to "gender non-conforming cool girl voice" ha ha (plus Uranus's current actor was on my ban-list since she's actually Hilda in Masters). Glad you liked it!

idk why but Larry saying 'and i'm taking your tofu' is just really funny and kind of accurate based on the selfie you get from him after defeating the normal gym.
LOVE your choice of voice actors (and voice lines)! My only differences with my list is that I’d imagine Larry’s voice to be even MORE monotone and 10% slower, Geeta’s voice to be different, Ryme and Tyme’s voices to be a little bit older, Grusha’s voice to be a bit lower (though I TOTALLY love your choice of Marin).
But EVERYONE ELSE’S VOICE is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

Ryme needed voice acting. Specially bc I cannot rap, but I have watched rap battles and I don't think those raps were drop the mike hard.
Just in general tho how immersive and stand out these characters were, I would've been more attached had they spoken with an actual voice

@@DumbGreenlight Ha ha, I know Goff's very popular in, like, FNAF fandom and such, but he's genuinely one of the best recent names to show up in a lot of anime and game dubs, he's great.

plus he did voice at least one pokemon in the anime (arctozolt) and one minor human character, so there could a higher chance he'll voice a major human character in some form

I'm bored so here's some extra insight on my voice choices for this one:
Nemona - Brina Palencia was an easy choice for this one, both for the tone and because I wanted a Spanish speaker in the role. First choice.
Arven - One of the hard ones, would've been a light Kaiji Tang if he wasn't like 8 different Pokemon characters already. Decided on Levy cuz Arven to me should sound a liiiittle gruff but still surprisingly young.
Penny - Wanted something nerdy and sassy and Corina Boettger worked well for her. Dani Chambers was also in consideration but she got recently cast in Masters. Almost included Mizuki shouting "Aaaugh! What the f***!" in the clips but prefer to keep things cleaner here.
Clavell - Had too many options for him, including John Gremillion, Clint Bickham, and Barry Yandell. But John DeMita had the best balance of "monotone" and "proper" that I wanted. I think for Clive he'd either do a cliche Elvis voice or make literally no attempt at changing his voice at all.
Sada - Easy, first choice, just the gruff vibe I expected for her.
Turo - One of the last people I cast as a Scarlet player. Was stuck on him for a long time just because he felt very, normal guy? But the realization that Akihiko Kayaba would be really funny sold me on Marc Diraison.
Katy - Natalie Rose has a very bubbly voice that I imagine fits Katy and I already had the clip of her sounding both sweet and menacing from my KoF video, so it just worked out well.
Brassius - Robbie Daymond is obvious for the Fire Emblem comparisons but I didn't actually play that game so I didn't hear it! I actually considered Chris Wehkamp because he reminded me of Aizawa from MHA but thought that Mark Whitten had that "pretentious and mature" vibe as Seteth down well, even if I didn't actually play that game. Again, had the specific audio on hand from KoF.
Iono - Sarah Wiedenheft is The Gremlin Voice, essentially. Easy choice made easier by the clip I found (really funny to have the very Iono dialogue with horror anime music behind it). Also had the funny in-joke of her being voiced by Ai Farouz, Power in CSM, in her promo video, and Sarah is Power in dub. Also fun fact, I fan-cast Wiedenheft as Lana in Alola years ago.
Kofu - A late casting choice but Josh Tomar just had that good deep + gruff I wanted. Chris Rager was also considered. Funny thing: I honestly just through Tomar audio I recorded for KoF in there and forgot to double check it before the render and realized it was way angrier than I thought, lol.
Larry - I thought Reagan Murdock's deadpan delivery as Aki in CSM was really good and decided it'd just work well for Larry. It would require a little adjustment in a real dub but the energy is there.
Ryme - I cast GK Bowes as her because I just thought she was in the right voice range so when I later realized she had a bad rap in Aggretsuko I felt galaxy-brained.
Tulip - Not much reason here, just think Natalie Van Sistine fits her image well. Recycled audio from Homestuck vid hence her getting really angry at the end lol.
Grusha - Decided not to pay much attention to gender when casting him since his androgyny could lead to him being voiced by any gender. My top choice was Howard Wang for a SK8 reference but he was in Masters already. Decided on Marin Miller, specifically as the also androgynous Enkidu/Kingu in Fate/, since them being nonbinary fit the androgyny angle and I think they just work really well for that specific character type.
Giacomo - One of the hardest ones, with Ben Diskin and Brendan Blaber being considered for a while until I realized Kellen Goff somehow WASN'T in Masters and his geekier voice worked really well in my mind.
Mela - I used a deeper voice for Dawn Bennett here but she actually has a pretty high register too, so I thought she worked well for the "surprisingly nice but scary" Mela. Katelyn Barr also considered.
Atticus - The only Team Star I never second-guessed because Stephen Fu has played multiple ninjas and it worked very well. Audio is even from his ninja character in Live A Live, I just never questioned it.
Ortega - Originally had Y Chang here but realized he was in Masters. Then I remembered Miya in SK8 and Ortega became very easy to cast, they're basically the same character.
Eri - I think maybe the hardest casting choice. I wanted "surprisingly pleasant" and went through Colleen O'Shaughnessy, Alexis Tipton, and several more before landing on Amanda Celine Miller as Jupiter, who even had some pretty perfect dialogue.
Rika - My easiest choice, I think Morgan Berry is my most obvious bias on this channel. One of my favorite voices, I just think they sound cool. Another nonbinary actor to play into Rika's androgyny, and very much me pushing my biases. Favorite character gets a favorite VA.
Poppy - I went with LilyPichu because she just fit the young vocal register well but her being a Pokemon fandom personality was a fun bonus.
Hassel - Another easy choice, David Wald is one of the best out there I think and Hassel just has the same "older, wise, emotional gay man" energy that Wald has perfected as an actor.
Geeta - Apparently my most controversial choice! I'm a big fan of Meli Grant and her voice just stuck with me on Geeta. She has a somewhat deadpan, mature sass to her, I think, and that's the same vibe I get from Geeta. I do wish Grant was in more since all I have on hand so far because it's hard to get across why I chose her with her smaller resume but she's one that stuck out to me with Geeta. She also just strikes me as slightly androgynous so I thought a trans actress fit her, though that may just be me.
Jacq - I cannot find his promo video voice actor and it upsets me! But I think he has a youthful energy that AJ Beckles matches well.
Tyme - Honestly Rebeka Thomas was the first name that came to mind and I was surprised I found something that worked well for her! She's great, she should be cast more!
Raifort - Kimberly Brooks is maybe more distant from anime stuff than I usually prefer for this channel but she just worked so well for Raifort specifically that I just couldn't change my mind from her.
Dendra - Another tough one and my personal favorite teacher, I thought Michelle Rojas just sounded solid for Dendra's youthful adult energy. I coincidentally had a very gay rant from them on hand and like...Dendra and Miriam/Tulip, just saying.
Saguaro - "I need someone with a scary deep voice sounding delightful". Ended up hunting a while for Jason Marnocha but it was worth it. Chris Sabat also considered.
Salvatore - I just imagined him very high energy and a bit sassy - while Jalen Cassel's performance in Iruma-kun is higher energy than I imagine for him, it gets the idea across.
Miriam - Easy one for me, I just think Brittany Lauda fits the sort of casual girl vibe Miriam has.

The Iono one matches so well with that character. It’s such a weird coincidence I just finished watching Mieruko-chan on Funimation like a week ago. The energy of the two characters matches so well.
I'm glad someone also thought Ryan would fit well as Arven. i'm not familiar with his other roles besides Denji but I always thought the way he speaks had this good balance of feeling like a regular person but not being too generic.
My other idea was Billy Kametz, specifically his Josuke voice, because I think the way he plays Josuke reflects Arven's character very well with them both being abrasive and petty at times but also deeply considerate of the people around them.
Obviously that can't happen now (may he rest in peace) but nonetheless I thought they had similar vibes
You made me realize how similar Kayaba and Turo are
I was stuck on Turo for a long time to the point that I didn't cast him until I was actively making the video (usually have a google doc prepped beforehand) and when I came across Diraison the dots just connected and I got very excited about it lol
honestly, the kayaba voice fits so well
I personally gave Penny a Futaba voice myself... but Mizuki surprisingly works well too...
I think the perfect voice for Atticus would be Matthew Mercer’s voice when he voiced Yusuke from Persona 5.
I personally think Matt Mercer's Yusuke voice would fit Brassius better.

I can definitely say I did not expect to hear Ortega say he would be my dog or cat if he lost, but I'm not at all appalled by this arrangement.
This is truly a person of culture. A true fan of anime and pokemon Every character was carefully thought out and chosen to fit the personalities, speech patterns, even aesthetics of all characters!
I can never not hear Brassius as Hubert from Fire Emblem. He looks so much like him and I love it.

Geeta and Ryme weren’t how I imagined, but the rest of the voices fit well. Dendra had one that fit perfectly! Imagine if any of those people got cast for the same or similar roles.

as a Fire Emblem fan, Mark Whitten (aka the voice of Seteth from Fire Emblem Three Houses) fits absolutely well as Brassius. Good job!

OMG! I love the voices! That’s so great, I really have a preference for Turo and Sada 's voice but the others are great too!

Voice casting is such a niche talent but you do it so well my goodness-
The only one don't really agree with is Grusha, I think he would have a deeper voice, but other than that, THIS IS SO ACCURATE! whenever i read their voicelines this is exactly whatI imagine them to sound like!
i think sean chiplock (and especially a revali kinda voice) would be a good fit for him

Larry, Ryme, Giacomo, Ortega, and Rika's are my favorites here, they sound so good!
The majority of these are EXACTLY how I imagined them when playing Pokémon Violet too. Arven, Penny, Giacomo, I imagined these kinds of voices for them when playing through the game.
Also I wonder if LilyPichu has played Scarlet & Violet yet and got to the Elite Four? We already have all the voicelines for Iono voiced by the same girl who voiced her trailers in English, so I'm excited to see where this goes. ^^
Honestly, these are probably the most accurate voices for these characters that I’ve heard so far. The only one I didn’t like was Geeta. It was kinda honestly kinda creepy. I was expecting her to have a warm, but mysterious and knowledgeable voice, but instead she sounded like a weird emotionless mystic.
There are a few others that I might’ve changed, but she was the biggest one by far.

Here are some of my personal headcannon voices
I can see someone like Patrick Seitz voicing Turo, but I think your choice fits depending on someone's taste.
I can't help but hear Jennifer Hale's preformance of Ashe from Overwatch (please don't kill me for bringing that game up) whenever I see Rika. Especially after her getting quickly set off by Hassel's subtle roast of her looks.
Speaking of Hassel, I feel like Jamieson Price would do pretty well for his kind of mostly serious, yet somehow slightly comedic character.
I think Jeremy Inman would do a pretty good Larry voice since he's done characters like Android 16 in Dragon Ball.
I don't really know how I drew this headcannon up, but somehow Laura Bailey springs to mind when I think of Penny's voice.
And my personal favorite is my headcannon for Atticus, which would have been Billy Kametz. Rest in peace you beautiful man.

Eh, the _tone_ might fit, but the game where those voice samples came from also has a medieval chapter… which is much more in line with how Atticus speaks.
Very interesting, I think you matched them well! Personally I see Nemona as having a slightly lower, more tomboyish-sounding voice. And I picture Ms. Dendra having a voice closer to Mirko's from My Hero Academia. Still that's just my personal headcanon, and for the most part the voices you chose matched the ones I envisioned, so wow nice job lol.
My headcanon voice for Ortega is the "When will you learn that your actions have consequences" kid

Each of these voices fit their respective character perfectly! Amazing fan casting!
That's a very good lineup of voice actors! If you don't mind a small critique, the voices of the fighting-type team star member(the one with facepaint) and the history instructor are the only two I would recast. something just sounds off to line up with them.
Really like all of the voices chosen with the exception of Penny and Gretta.
My own takes for those two:
Penny: Cassandra Lee Morris
Gretta: Tara Platt or Cherami Leigh
