The short story portrays a rock star struggling to come to terms with the loss of his girlfriend, who committed suicide by gunshot after he repeatedly strayed from their relationship. November Rain is one of the most expensive music videos ever. It was inspired by Axl Rose's troubled relationship with Erin Everly. Some people say that the MVs for “November Rain“, “Don't Cry” and “Estranged” form an unofficial trilogy, though it was never officially confirmed.
AXL wrote the song himself. Clocking in at 8.58, the final version of “November Rain” took much the same shape as the earlier 1986 piano demo. But with the band's parts worked to completion and a full string arrangement - orchestrated by Axl himself - bolstering the song, “November Rain” was finally ready.
One of all time favs. The composition of the song, the classic intro, the signature guitar solo, selection of melodies, chords, the amazing lyrics, etc, etc. Undoubtedly the greatest rock ballad ever written. Guns n Roses is a once a lifetime phenomenon. Truly amazing.
The smile on your face when slash started the first solo was priceless. The original video had a drive by shooting cut out before the cake was destroyed and the wine spilled turning everything red. That’s why she died.

This song is actually part 2 of a trilogy based on a short story by Del James called "Without You", to understand it you'd need to read the story. The girl in the video is Stephanie Seymour a super-model who was dating Axl at the time.
The girl is then-supermodel stephanie seymour who axl rose was dating at the time. They were briefly engaged (3 weeks) in 1993 when she broke up with him for being abusive. They both sued each other, he claimed she "stole" jewelry, because she didn't return those gifts, including the engagement ring, when they split. She counter sued for abuse.

This came out when i was like 12 years old. I saw that video on mtv and when Slash came out of that church, a cigarette in his mouth, shirtless, leather jacket and cowboy boots and then started playing his les paul guitar, i knew i wanted to become like him one day. Well, didn't quite make it, guitar playing requires a little bit more than just looking cool. But i do love my guitar, even though i don't have the talent of Slash, i am forever thankful that he inspired me to pick up an instrument.

The ending part is my favorite part and ironically it's the sad part. I didn't really know it's a love song where he gets married then she dies. Never really saw the music video. That was nice to see.

Nobody actually knows who jumped on the cake they originally cut that part out but Axl Rose (the lead singer) was like "where's the cake, I love the cake?!" So they put that part back in.
November Rain may be part of the trilogy but is a movie unto itself. It's an amazing experience.

How does Slash play his guitar through all that hair? He just does. When you're a truly special talent with that instrument, you don't need to see it, just feel it. And Slash is among the best ever. He may not be THE best ever, but it doesn't take long to call the role in that class.

While I'll always love rock music my current preferred genre has shifted to rap but Gun N' Roses will forever be my favorite music artist of all time and this is my favorite song by them! It might be in the comments somewhere here but the song is part of a trilogy of songs, "Don't Cry" being the first, this song being the second and "Estranged" being the third. But the music video is also inspired by a beautiful short story titled "Without You" by Del James. I'm commenting before the end and I can't remember if they credit it or not. There's a rumor that the helicopter-shots at 7:50 were the second take, and Slash played kinda blind because the first pass kicked up so much dust and sand.

Axl's voice is actually a funny story. He is doing a falcetto sound, like a very high pitch version of voice. His actual voice is quite deep. He was doing a audition for a singer role for some band in his early days but they weren't that interested in him until he reached the chorus which he did in falcetto and the auditioners asked him to then do the whole song like that and rest is history. The raspness came later since doing that type of singing a lot damaged his vocal chords, almost preventing him from singing.

Released in 1992, this 'November rain' music video reportedly cost 1.5 million $$$ (one of the most expensive videos ever made) and was based on a story by writer Del James (a friend of the band) about losing a love... There was rain at the November wedding, and a year later, there was rain again at the wife's funeral (Apparently, she took her own life...)
The model in the music video was supermodel Stephanie Seymour, who was engaged to GNR singer W. Axl Rose at the time... She was also in the first part of the video trilogy ("Don't cry" by GNR) ... 'November rain' was part 2.
Axl Rose was huge fan of Elton John and his romantic piano ballads, and 'November rain' was inspired by his music.
By 1993, Axl Rose and Seymour had split up... she sued him in court for abuse and damages...
So, part 3 was the GNR song 'Estranged' and Seymour was not in it... it depicted Axl's struggles after losing his love. The other members of GNR were not happy that million$ were being spent on lavish music videos, but there was nothing they could do to convince Axl Rose otherwise.
Guns N' Roses were known for their brand of heavy rock music in 1987 w/ their debut album 'Appetite for destruction'... their 1988 EP 'GNR Lies' had acoustic songs showcasing the band's versatility.
In 1991, the 2 albums 'Use your illusion' (Vol. I & II) were released, and they were vastly different from the first album... there were heavy rock songs, but there was so much diversity - epic ballads, country songs, boogie rock, punk rock, etc...
U noticed the difference in the videos from 'Paradise city' in 1988, and 'November rain' that was shot in 1992... the band did not look the same at all ( 2 members had also left the original Guns N' Roses).

The video tells the story that goes with the song. This was what I grew up on with music videos told a story, as did the songs. Good reaction, especially at the end when everything hits.
For a LONG time, if not still, this was largely considered the greatest rock song and greatest music video of all time
Because this came out in the video music era of MTV in 1992, when records would sell millions of copies and the music industry would put money$ into the music videos... I don't think we will ever see a music video like this today (which cost 1.5 million $$$) or music this good.
Now, MTV has turned into reality TV garbage... records don't sell anywhere near 1 million copies anymore and streaming services pay very little to the artists & record companies... and music videos are made w/ miniscule budgets... and the era of music superstars is gone. Very few artists can inspire what Guns N' Roses did between 1987 and 1993... and music today is so electronic and synthetic (sugar candy easily consumed on earbuds of cellphones). There are no current bands that can do what the classic Guns N' Roses created back then.
I mean, we have bands like Ghost, Greta Van Fleet, Rivals Sons, etc... but none are that good, sadly...

The woman in the wedding dress is Stephanie Seymour, she was engaged to Axl Rose for a brief time, and she was one of the top super models in the world at the time. She was in two music videos for Guns and Roses, but they broke up three weeks after being engaged in February of 1993. Seymour has talked about the relationship being difficult and Rose being unstable. She's also talked about her own issues and that the both of them each having issues, didn't make for a healthy relationship, even though Axl Rose did have a very good relationship with her son and treated him as if he was his own.
This is one of the most expensive music video ever made and yes it was definitely worth it .

I was in High School when this came out, and this was always one of my favorite song of the 2 CD's. I both love and hate this song. Within the last few years, everytime I hear the last solo, I start crying, no matter what mood I'm in.
"November rain" means the hard times of a relationship, november is many parts of the world the time of the year when it starts to get darker, wind is colder and the rain is freezing cold
it is hard to keep the flame of the candle(or flame of the heart) alive when the circumstances make it hard
The phrase "I need sometime on my own", so many people say it too often and many regret it later, or working too much and not taking their time with their loved ones
Some need their own time of course, if they aren't passionate about the same things or have some hobbies that the other one isn't interested in, and that should be respected by both if it is needed :)

It's so hard knowing that the sound of this song is literally the sound of one of the greatest bands of all time tearing itself apart as around the time this album was being produced was when the trouble and (at the time) hatred between band members was becoming more of an all consuming thing.... The music and albums this band created was some arguably the best and original for this style and genre of music..
Appetite for Destruction was and still is the highest selling debut album of all time and in this day and time when the sale of "physical" records is really no longer something that happens much it's pretty much assured that record will never be broken by another band....
imagine what amazing music could have been made by GnR if drugs and Egos hadn't destroyed such a talented group of people and deprived the world of their talent.....
