It's funny how worked up some people will get about a watch. And to say that a Grand Seiko is just a Seiko will tell you all you need to know about that particular person as far as watches go. Great job on your videos, keep grinding!
Great high quality content. Thanks for the video. When I heard how you pronounced A. Lange & Söhne, it was clear that you are a German feller. Sub was a no brainer. 😉
I have both a Grand Seiko and a Lange Saxonia Thin. The Lange is super accurate, so anyone who thinks the GS is superior with regard to accuracy is basing their conclusions on poor evidence. Especially if you choose to compare a spring drive to a regular mechanical movement. I guess I should add that I think the Lange is the better watch.
A lang is hand made. I love my GS but it is not entirely handmade. Workmanship is amazing on a GS but ALS is hand made. You pay for the hours of a human making the watch. And ALS does it so well that it most of the time is impeccable. Great review and I thing your understanding of the watches is exceptional. Nice review.
This really demonstrates the power of branding. If the GS had the ALS name on the dial, people would go crazy for it. For me, the GS is a more complete package. Stunning dial, beautiful case, super accurate and unique movement plus the addition of the power reserve on the back and a sweeping seconds to reassure you it is running. GS takes the win.
i really really love grand seiko, the most innovative movements in the industry with great prices. but to me, the lange is more elegant, more refined, the classic original lange design, the plain and uncomplicated design along with the extreme of the thinness really brings out what the watch is, it’s a perfect dress watch. the grand seiko is for engineers, the lange is for artists
Nice video 👍🏽 I agree the 9r31 in the sbgy isn’t a great looker but it is essentially the same as the 7r87 on the credor gclp995 which is decorated to a much higher standard. Not Lange standard but pretty damn close. Check it out.
Yes the 9R31 is incredible for the money. Credor is definitely on another level, but for a fraction of the price the movement of the SBGY003 is above average.
The Grand Seiko is a "Timepiece" a precise state of the art horological instrument of measurement. The Lange & Sohne is only a "Watch" nothing more than something to be looked at.
I'm not much of a watch person but the A Lange, is it made of gold for that price? Or are you just paying for the company's marketing fees? I'm pretty sure the watch is well made, but 17k euros? Like why? it looks so underwhelming.
I shall take GK because of the movement is light years ahe😮d. Of course both have the artistic value and both values are considered as same. Foolish people with no knowledge and those who run after propaganda may choose a Länge. Believe me Germany lost their all qualities and never deserves as much price as they claim. We need to check carefully on German products. Let’s see if they can regain their legacies.
I think the GS is a better watch of the two, though I would love to own a Lange. This Lange is very boring. My daily driver is the Snowflake. I own 2 Rolexes and a few other luxury watches and used to wear 2 watches a day. I found, the GS is just so comfortable, I don’t want to wear anything else.
@@Solution-Design I agree. I would probably want to wear this Lange upside down so I could look at the movement. The dial is really plain. The Spring drive while not as pretty is an amazing invention.
@@davidzed7952 I don't even look at the Lange as a grail watch, because the Lange's I would want are priced way out of what I could spend. Unfortunately I will never own one.
If everybody thinks like you, Patek, VC, AP and Rolex would go out of business. Leave them alone, they have their merits. Don’t you think GS got their inspiration for the high end watches?
I wouldn't include rolex with the other top brands. Rolex is mid-tier at best. Only marketing is what makes people want rolex. No innovation at all and the movement is no better than ETA in durability. If you want a brand to compare with Rolex, Omega would be a good one to put head to head. Even Omega has more innovation tbh.
ALS isn’t as available anymore. And is a PM piece. The movement finishing is … trinity level. And it’s a classic dress watch. Classy. Understated. Elegant. I can’t really speak for GS after sales either. I own the SBGY007 and the saxonia thin
Great video, these two were good watches to compare with eachother. I don't know how familiar you are with camera work but you could add more detailed shots of the dials and show them in different lightings aswell.
I may be full of admiration for the minimalist Lange Sohne and the wonderful finish of the movement - but when you buy an oil panting you admire the front - not the back.
GS is an aspirational watch brand for me. As a Seiko lover, I think it is the next logical step for me. They are also crazy beautiful and looks like pieces of art on your wrist. Subscribed!
@@jameswong6590 I don't doubt you, but this creates an oddity. Why does our movements function differently? With only 700 in the world.. I can't imagine that this is intentional..
I’m surprised about the complaints on the finishing of the A Lange & Sohne, can you share more in depth video/photos?
Is grand seiko better than Lange? No. Not even nearly. Move on.
人それぞれです。😂
それに、何を基準として優れているのかの定義によって変わってきますよ。笑笑
I only wore my GS twice since I bought it...... I will get back to my Lange all day

Exactly. Those are what you call a watch snob.
No contest for me: A. Lange & Söehne. Understated, classic and elegant. The other one....a nice Seiko.
Typical snob lmao.
(06:45 - 06:50) "Even though the movement on the Lange is a piece of art, I don't think I will wear the rear side of my watch." Why not, David?
GS is great, but A. LANGE is masterpiece for GS
Lange is german perfection!
Great high quality content. Thanks for the video.
When I heard how you pronounced A. Lange & Söhne, it was clear that you are a German feller. Sub was a no brainer. 😉
Dankeschön ☺️
These two brands are not of the same level. Lange is higher grade, and GS is even inferior to Rolex. Lange's movement grinding is much better than GS.
ua-cam.com/video/NrTEnE2oi3Q/v-deo.html
Lmao at inferior than Rolex. Typical turd.
The Lange is a different league for me
Will do a review in the near future.

Lol you don't own the watches you mentioned. Nice story though.

Surprised at the als dial. It's so simple in design that you'd figure they'd get it's execution perfect.
This really demonstrates the power of branding. If the GS had the ALS name on the dial, people would go crazy for it. For me, the GS is a more complete package. That's true. People tend to pay more attention to the name of the brand instead of the quality of the watch.
No way, GS is not on the same level as Lange. Isn’t that the purpose of Credor?
Agreed. He wants to compare Grand Seiko to Lange when Lange is the only want who came out the Double and Triple Split =)
Credor is on another level, but in the west it's almost impossible to buy a credor, so GS is the only real comparison.
@@davidzed7952 Lange is more high-end. GS is a precise tool, which is the difference between them
Good vid leaving it to a subjective choice. Really a matter of taste. Hope more ppl see how good your content is
Thank you very much for your kind words!
I LOVE that Seiko! What is your wrist size?
ALS zeitwerk is my grail watch
Same. Incredible watch, just out of my budget :(
I bought the Saxonia Thin first then I bought the GS Oniwatari.
Excellent review. Thank you.
Grand Seiko Omiwatari SBGY007 - I must stare on it
No. It’s not. What’s next?
Great comparison David.
Thanks for the great video! I love my GS watches.
Grand Seiko, of course!
Hahaha you compare a Lada with a Mercedes or Rolls Royce - Grand Seiko cannot even compete with AP so stop comparing it with the top notch brand

As a complete package no GS can not complete with Lange but it can for some elements, plus lange temd to be significantly more expensive than GS.
Nice video 👍🏽

Rather the other way round.

1:52 HUH?
Short answer...NO
🤣
I'm actually shocked to see those on a Lange watch, damn.
Yeah, I don’t know what went wrong with this one
german "bauhaus" design means no design , a lazy way to design , a german & european hype up so called "design"

GS for me. But in a Seiko fan boy so I'd say I'm a LITTLE bias... Great video !
GS FTW :)
Don't forget to mention the history of each company next time....

GS is just a tool watch. Its movement grinding is far worse than Lange. This is their gap.
