In retrospect, this choice shouldn't surprise me in the slightest--you have been gushing about it nonstop on the channel 😅. It's really a wonderful piece, I've tried it on several times in person and would've considered it if I didn't already have an SBGA413. Wear it in good health!
@@skellington2000 because full quartz is not as mechanically elegant as spring drive, and that's the big thing spring drive captures: accuracy of quartz, artistry of mechanical. And based on how resilient and persistent Seiko has been, I highly doubt Spring Drive will stop being hard to repair that soon in the future. Also, your logic isn't even fully sound because plenty of mechanical watches are even more hellish to service than spring drive.
As to your watch choice, this GS just about has it all: excellent proportions, wrist comfort, technological sophistication and sheer beauty. It's an amazing piece. Congratulations! 😀👍
Many congrats Andrew! After all the wonderful stories you've given us for so long, you deserve a killer watch like the Grand Seiko Omiwatari! The $50,000 Credor Eichii ii is my all time favorite video on the Watchfinder channel. You spoke of it with such passion! It's only fitting that years later, you got yourself this watch! May you wear it in good health always! 😊
I love what both Seiko and Grand Seiko have been doing. That piece can be worn in so many settings and only watch people would realise how valuable it is. Great purchase.
I don't think Grand Seiko has ever officially said why they started putting the power reserve indicators on their spring drive movements, but if you look back at the developmental history of spring drive at GS, you'll see that the primary engineering challenge in developing the movement was in getting the power reserve to a usable length. The first prototype in 1983 would only run for 4 hours, and it took until 2004 for the movement to have a long enough power reserve to use automatic winding and enter series production. I think this is why they started putting the power reserve on the dial, to mark their engineering achievement with spring drive. Someone should ask the people at GS whether that's actually the case, by the way (hint, hint).
Not having any close friends who can afford or have an interest in this hobby, I'm glad when our favourite youtubers share their new pieces. Especially when it is people like Andrew who don't just buy and sell 10s of watches a year. Congrats man! Enjoy in good health!
I must admit, I have been lusting after the Omiwatari ever since I first saw it. It has been the first Grand Seiko that has had that effect on me. The lack of a power reserve on the dial is a sure fire winner and the fact that it is manually wound is truly romantic for a Watch nerd. I just wish that I could afford one. Congratulations on your new Watch Andrew 👏 A beautiful choice. Enjoy it and wear it in good health. ✊
Excellent video! You bring up a solid, foundational point that often gets overlooked: personal connection and taste. There are pieces that sit high on paper. But, at the end of the day, if it doesn’t make you happy or smile or feel fuzzy, it isn’t the watch for you. You found one that does those things, and that should be celebrated. For me? I haven’t a clue. I always seek out the Omega/IWC/Tudor thing as “this seems right - a GADA piece.” And, then, I remember the Dornblüth. I melt. I remember a Habring and blush. I think about a vintage Longines and smile. Those might do it for me. And I don’t know why.
I knew exactly which watch you bought when I saw the thumbnail, congratulations on your new watch. I got into Grand Seiko because of your videos, so thank you for that.
Fantastic choice Andrew, I actually tried on the Omiwatari a few months ago and fell in love with the elegance, the incredible dial, and the magnificence of the movement finishing…
I felt the same way the day I bought my IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Spitfire, IW387901. I always loved IWC since I was a teenager, loved that it was the first perfect looking watch to me in 20 years, that it was released in Goodwood, which is where I bought it, and that it has “747” in its serial number. I’m a pilot, I love Goodwood, I fly 747s and I always dreamt of flying a spitfire, which I aim to do this year. This watch is a symbol of so many dreams of mine coming true. Thanks for sharing your passions, Andrew. So happy that you started flying!

Thank you Andrew, thank you for putting into words the enthusiasm us, normal watch lovers, have when picking up the watch WE want, not what others tell us to like.
I am still looking at the SLGA007 (as my grail watch), which is the blue version of the Suwa theme, with a slight increase in the diameter and a 5 days power reserve. The blue is quite mesmerizing, but congrats with your choice, which was in my top 3!
Congrats! I hope it brings you joy and satisfaction. I yearned for this one watch as a kid, and now that I actually have some money I went to grab one and it's long discontinued. I could buy a used one, but I started hunting for the better or higher-end version of it. After a few years and many watches, I figured out that the only thing that would make me happy is that $200 thing I wanted as a kid, so I got a used one and I'm STOKED.
Well done sir, well deserved. I remember my first desired watch I had to have. Back in the late 70's I had gone thru Timex models as a teenager and ( red ) LED's until I discovered LCD Seiko. I just had to have it. Stainless steel case, bracelet and an LCD display. A months wages later it was mine. Bliss. Lost it travelling and have since bought it again. I now own a varied collection but always go back to wearing the old Seiko LCD with my old leather bomber jacket and trainers. The best days. I understand your feeling of 'I have it , I done it ! " wear it with pride and joy.
Congratulations. I recently purchased by black faced GS GMT spring drive. I absolutely love it. With a date and power reserve in front, it is about as different as can be from yours. But I still get why you chose yours. They are tremendous watches.
Grand seiko watches are simply brilliant. Some of the best finishing and dial designs out there. Some hate it but I think the spring drive is inspired. My favourite line are the evo 9s, especially the green birch and the new lake Suwa. If they made a bracelet as good quality as their watches, minds would be blown, money would be spent, lives would be graced with the magic of grand seiko
Welcome Andrew to the GS family. I also have a GS Snowflake spring drive, it has the reserve dial. Special occasion watch like Christmas and New Years with friends when you don't want to be 'that guy' showing off a Rolex or Patek Phillipe. It always starts a conversation. But like many watches, you want to preserve it's new looks. I wear it on special occasions only. It sits next to my Chopard Classic in the watch case.
Congrats on having this masterpiece with you 😊 As I've learned on my own watch collecting journey, the watch just tells the time, it is the bearer who tells the story. What a great story indeed for you 👌
Great taste Andrew. My Grail watch is also the Credor Eichii II & many A Lange & Sohnes' 🤣. I have instead the Seiko SARX029 with a beautiful minimalistic Urushi dial. My favourite GS is also the Omiwatari and it's great on the wrist but expensive. My current go to watches for dress are Seiko SARX029 for its minimilistic philosophy which ties in with my love for minimalism and the watch I was aiming for, for nearly one year and recently purchased is the entry level luxury Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT Blue GMT hand on black. I love its aviation & travel philosophy which ties in with my recreational travelling. Ciao
so i was following watch finder channel for a while now i never saw the guy behind the voice and man oh my god i didnt know it was you at all but with the voice only i figured it out i love the way you describe every watch and congrats on your new acquisition
Have to admit over the past few weeks I have had Grand Seikos on my mind a lot. Even after looking at other high end brands I still desire a grand seiko. This one you have or the SLGH017 night birch and SLGA007 blue ripples of Lake Suwa are my picks. Not sure which one i like the most but then finding them in my city is the real challenge.
I have one AD in my city that sells Rolex, Omega, Patek, Tudor, IWC, and Grand Seiko. The problem is, I cannot stand the store manager and refuse to purchase anything from them. This forced me to look at alternatives such as Chrono 24 where I found Omicron Watches in Tokyo. All up, including shipping and taxes, I managed to save thousands of NZ dollars over purchasing from my local AD. I have the full 5-year warranty and it only took a few days to arrive (including Customs clearance). Omicron's customer service, communications, range, and prices were fantastic and I recommend them if you don't have a local supplier.
First of all, thank you for all the work and videos you do. I have learned a lot about watches and become more and more interested in horology, all thanks to you. The other day, after years of learning and wanting good watches, I bought the Seiko lx SNR027. With this watch I mark all the success, all the achievements and all the adventures I had and will have! With this watch, I celebrate life in all its glory, with all its ups and downs… And honestly, I couldn't be happier!
Just got my second GS . . . and I have a dreadful feeling that it won't be my last. (First one was the SBGP017 "Sea of Clouds", which also has that sometimes-silver, sometimes-blue dial.) They really are works of art.
1st time I've seen a watch that I REALLY want is when I was 13, and I was wandering around in Montenapoleone st. here in Milan (which is the core of the fashion and luxury district in Milan, IT). I still remember it was an IWC Portuguese with white dial and blued hands... I thought it was a chrono, but back in 1987 there wasn't such thing, so probably a small second one :) Grate choice mate, really great choice. Maybe sell the quartz GS and try one something from another origin?
Love your content, I also follow Theo & Harris. Both of them also own this watch, & what a beautiful watch it is! Perfect size, slender and enough to look at but not crowded or boring in the slightest! Very happy for you mate!
The funny thing about the power reserve on this watch (I have its sister, the 009 Tsuki Tenshin) is that you might be inclined to think it makes sense to have it because these aren't automatic watches. But what you find out when owning one is that you cannot overwind these; when the watch is fully wound, the winding mechanism comes to a full stop. So basically, you don't need the power reserve to tell you when to stop winding; just wind it whenever you put it on until it can't be wound further and you're good. No PR indicator needed.
Imagine my surprise to learn you really enjoy a watch I just purchased today. It arrives Sat. Makes me feel even better about the purchase. You’re probably handled 1000x the number of watches I have, so probably aren’t easily pleased.
Beautiful watch! Excellent pick! I was recently lucky to pickup my grail watch as my upcoming military retirement present… the new Omega Speedmaster! Im a watch nerd, but even more so a space nerd! Cheers!
Congratulations Andrew, Enjoy it in good health! My must-have is a Tag Carrera chronograph of some description. To me it has the perfect proportions for a chronograph and the nostalgia factor is off the charts having watched so many race cars and overalls sport the famous logo. Tag Heuer gets a lot of flack these days but as you say, you want what you want.
Congratulations, it's a beuty. Those macro shots of the brand gently resting on the textured dial with the light seeping through in between are gorgeous.
Congrats on your new GS! My first really nice watch was my manual wound speedy. It was like a child that needed my attention every day. Our bond grew strong over the years with that daily morning ritual. To this day, even with all my automatic watches, I still prefer manual wind movements.
Recently, I was struck by the notion my collection should focus on local/regional/national watch makers and brands. It means I won't experience Grand Seiko ownership, and that is a bummer, but it also means I'm living my truth, even in my hobby. Congrats on the beautiful watch!
It’s excellent… Manual wound is very cool of course. The power reserve on the back keeps the dial “clean”. Not all Grand Seikos are spring drive: this one is! The dial is superb; I want to see it in evening light, or the multiple colour lights of a great night club. It probably is the best (prettiest) GS out there, unless … the same model comes in white birch. No date, means no stress in keeping it right in Februarys or Aprils …
Well, it’s confession time….the GS is superb! My own personal favourite is the Patek Philippe 5326G….a work of art around a fine tarmac dial, much like you I doubt whether I’d ever be able to afford it and if that day ever comes it will be discontinued anyway! Sad times!
It's a nice watch and I'm glad you have the good fortune to now own one. I am after a very modest Hamilton khaki aviation pilot pioneer mechanical 43mm, expensive enough for me and I like the old school angle. I'm new to the watch game.
Congratulations Andrew, on your purchase of your Grand Seiko. I know you’ve been wanting one for sometime, and I happy that you now have it. Wear it in good health 👍
I absolutely demand!! that You get your hands on an SLGW003 And do a review...... Please. I pre-purchased one back in April and will receive it in August and am extremely (overly) excited about it!. I cannot wait to see it and would very much love to hear your take on it.
I congratulate you on your tasteful and most envious purchase. I hope it brings you much pleasure. You do realise though, you have no excuse to be late ever again!!!
And the Omiwatari sales skyrockets all of a sudden 😄 Great pick. I too appreciate the lake suwa dial pattern. Hoping to get the Lake Suwa at Dawn this April in Japan if i get lucky.
I LIKE modern GS watches, but I LOVE original ‘60-‘75 historical GS watches. FI the Kari-Zuri dial of my GS 6146-8030 is hard to match …. The fact that the parts of these watches were almost 100% handcrafted give me an incredible feeling of respect when I wear these items of my collection. After 60 years they are still highly acurate. Their Taro Tanaka style is so smart and wise ….
After this intro, I was totally expecting a Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 :D I just got a 1992, new old stock, 7t34 flighty for myself, it's the coolest watch I've ever had. It even scratched my long-term Speedmaster itch. (For a while, at least)
Hey! We’ve been waiting for this reveal for a while. Congrats on this beauty Andrew. Love it on that casual strap. Hopefully a wrist shot one of these days ? Cheers 🍻
Dear Andrew I purchased my Sbgy 009 same time you bought yours . We are sharing same dreams . You do it in the pedestrian street , I do it in bed . With love Nizar
Hi Andrew, I love your channel and watch it religiously. I've managed to purloin the SBYG027G, granted it's not the 007 but it does have the same movement but try as I might I cannot find a review on it so thank you for posting this video. Mine sits perfectly on my 6.5 inch wrist and it is mesmerising to watch the second hand glide round so beautifully. This watch is so understated yet oozes class for those who know. Forget Rolex, this beauty knocks them out the ball park as far as I'm concerned but that's just my view. Please keep doing what you're doing. Best wishes Bob 😀
I had one of these on wrist the other week. It's lovely! I'm still too smitten with the snowflake though which I also had a look at. I just love it. I will own one one day... The Eichi II is also my all time favourite watch!
Stunning watch, Andrew! Gongrats! It would have to be a Speedy for me. I just keep on coming back to it. But I’ve never been able to pull the trigger. It’s a shame that prices have pretty much doubled since I’ve first contemplated buying one. Making me doubt the purchase even more. I‘ll be repairing and enjoying the watches I have. Hopefully one day I’ll get the Speedy on my wrist.
Save a bit each week (I do the same for my upcomming Tudor Black Bay 58). It may take years. But in the end it will be yours. The real challenge is not spending it on another watch before you reach your goal.
Andrew, congrats on your new watch. I may be a borderline enthusiast, but I'm not a collector - I own one, recently purchased Seiko 5. I'm not interested in owning a legion of watches, and I can't afford the ones I might be interested in collecting anyway. But Grand Seiko... My question for you: What were your most important steps in "being smart and working hard" that connected the dots from wanting the Omiwatari to owning it?
I am envious:) Just got the SBGW231. Next is this, the SBGY007. It requires real saving. Then the SGLH005. This requires even more saving. That will complete the GS trifecta: manual, spring drive, and hi-beat 80h reserve auto. They each have unique dial that are GS hallmarks, and to throw in a GS 44 case to boot. As much as they are, they added up to less than a sport car depreciate per year, at least that's how I am selling it to the wife.
Congrats Andrew! I absolutely loved the back story. You mentioned the paradox of choice in one of your videos in which you compared an Omega, GS and JLC. Well I have been absolutely unable to decide between a GS and a JLC ever since! Do you feel like dress watches - or "casual watches" - are making a bit of a comeback? If so, I think it's a great trend. Thanks again for such outstanding content. Well done!
@@johnburgess6572 That's the lean John....Even narrowing it down to the Master Control/Master Ultra Thin, it's a tough decision! My leading candidate is the Reserve de Marche from Andrew's other video.
I’m saving for the Sinn 3006. Sinn build, full of specs that i like, SUG case,… the only thing i would change to like it more is a central minute counter (like ezm10 or a lamania 5100). But is sweet, tough, quiet unique and it will be mine.
I have that watch, but I could never get over my passion for watches with white Diles. So I sold it and bought the SBGY011, essentially the same watch, but with a 40 MM case and a white dial. I am now as happy as a pig in swill.
The SBGY011 seems to be exactly what I wanted in a Grand Seiko - clean dial, spring drive, no date. I am going through what Andrew went through with his new watch!
I agree. Great choice man and beautiful strap. Now I want it !!! Damn! I just got the white birch spring drive and love that and you may have changed my mind to make this one the GS to own!
Congrats, great watch, I love the movement (must be my all time favorite) and the color scheme, too bad it has not luminescence, that's something I really miss when it's not there
Great choice. Not exactly "me" but as owner of two GS watches (SBGW 289 and SBGV245 - yes we share this one :P) I totally get the idea of choosing Grand Seiko in this budget and whole fascination about them :) Congrats!
Very nice watch Andrew. In fact I'm understating it. It's a supremely beautiful watch of the highest quality. As I've already said on one of your other uploads, my Grand Seiko is more beautifully finished than any of my other watches. I'm embarrassed it took me as long as it did to buy one.

Hey Andrew. My Omivitari is arriving tomorrow. Can’t wait. I hope you still love yours.
I do! Congratulations. Enjoy!
Cheers!
Your voice is soothingly therapeutic! I listen to you because I like watches and you help me unwind! Keep up the good work.
Thank you 😊
Congratulations Andrew, Enjoy it in good health!
A beautiful GS. That second hand is hypnotic and that dial is like a fresh snow fall. Congrats.
I own two GS. Spring drive and a hi-beat. I prefer the spring drive - perfect accuracy, 5 day power reserve, power indicator on back.
Recently, I was struck by the notion my collection should focus on local/regional/national watch makers and brands. It means I won't experience Grand Seiko ownership, and that is a bummer, but it also means I'm living my truth, even in my hobby. Congrats on the beautiful watch!
Congratulations. Really VERY nice dial, and I love that smooth running sweep seconds hand.
Fine vid Andrew! Thanks
It’s a beauty! Congrats Andrew 🎉
Thanks man!
I knew it!!! That is my dress grail watch. So glad you grabbed this so I can, for a time, live vicariously through your enjoyment. Congrats 😎👍🏼
Congrats on the gorgeous watch. It's stunning. GS Spring Drive any of them is my grail watch to obtain. Congrats again on a beautiful time piece.
I've been eyeing this personally for a while myself. Very happy to see that you have added this to your personal collection!
And the Omiwatari sales skyrockets all of a sudden 😄
Great pick.
Congratulations, Andrew! Finally a Spring Drive!
Going for a Tudor Black Bay 58 myself. I have my eye on that watch for a couple of years now. Getting one as a present to myself for Christmas.
Nico Leonard has left the chat... 😛
Great choice. This is the watch I'd get if I didn't already have the Skyflake. The no-date, no-power gauge emphasizes the beauty of the snowy dial.
A fantastic choice mate... Ive Just brought the SBGA007G skyflake... The dials on these things are ridiculous
Congratulations, sounds like you found the perfect watch for you.
I'm waiting for a two tone dj. Hopefully soon now.
Congratulations on the new watch, stunning! Think smart & work hard 👍🏻 Good luck with the flying…
Congrats Andrew! Beautiful watch!
Stunning watch, the polishing on the grand seiko are on another level. Great video 👍
Congratulations, what a beautiful peace, perfectly crafted.
Great purchase pal. I'm happy for you. Great content as usual.
Cheers 🍻
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Dear Andrew
I purchased my Sbgy 009 same time you bought yours . We are sharing same dreams . You do it in the pedestrian street , I do it in bed .
With love
Nizar
@@nizarmurar enjoy, nice watch!
Congratulations bro🎉
Thanks very much!
Congratulations! Omiwitari is such a beauty.
You’re 100% right. I’m no collector. So if I’d be buying a watch it has to be the one.
I am envious:)
Just got the SBGW231.
Props to you m8 for the selection. There isn't a better movement around.
Well done!
JLC
Thanks! Small subtle watches are going to come back in a big way I reckon
@@johnburgess6572 That's the lean John....Even narrowing it down to the Master Control/Master Ultra Thin, it's a tough decision! My leading candidate is the Reserve de Marche from Andrew's other video.
Congratulations Andrew!!
I’m saving for the Sinn 3006. Sinn build, full of specs that i like, SUG case,… the only thing i would change to like it more is a central minute counter (like ezm10 or a lamania 5100).
But is sweet, tough, quiet unique and it will be mine.
Congrats! I also have found it impossible to choose a Grand Seiko; but I do think the right one will speak to you as this one did to you 🙏🏻
Awesome pick. Love how the movement looks.
Congrats and wear it in good health! It is a stunning watch, indeed.
Great watch. I won’t know what my next watch will be until I see it in a windows on my next vacation. Thanks Andrew
Very excited and happy for you, Andrew! Congrats! I think the Omiwatari accompanies your BB58 quite nicely. The 007 is such a good watch!
Thanks very much!
I love power reserve gauges on the back, shown through the transparent case back. More manual wind watches need to have that feature.
I agree. Great choice man and beautiful strap. Now I want it !!! Damn! I just got the white birch spring drive and love that and you may have changed my mind to make this one the GS to own!
Congrats on the watch and also learning to fly. Remember, more right rudder!
You had the Omiwatari on your shortlist forever, good on you and welcome back to the GS family
OMG! You really did it and got that grail.
Beautiful, no, it’s sublime
Congratulations, Andrew! Love your work. Best. 🎉
Congrats, great watch, I love the movement (must be my all time favorite) and the color scheme, too bad it has not luminescence, that's something I really miss when it's not there
Congratulations Andrew, this is a gorgeous watch! Seiko finally got GS Spring Drive dial right!
Your best video so far. Brilliant dialogue and a lovely watch. Many thanks.
Thank you 😊
Love this review from the perspective of us watch collectors who love to WEAR our watches! Nice strap personalizing the watch to your taste!
Dude, awesome about the pilot license! I totally want to do that as well. Congrats!
Great choice. Not exactly "me" but as owner of two GS watches (SBGW 289 and SBGV245 - yes we share this one :P) I totally get the idea of choosing Grand Seiko in this budget and whole fascination about them :)
Congrats!
Congrats! GS just hits so hard.
Very nice watch Andrew. In fact I'm understating it. It's a supremely beautiful watch of the highest quality. As I've already said on one of your other uploads, my Grand Seiko is more beautifully finished than any of my other watches. I'm embarrassed it took me as long as it did to buy one.
