I like my doctor, But... The last time I had bloodwork done, there was no follow up, and while that generally means no news is good news, I wasn't too happy with my iron results. I had been complaining of really heavy periods (they're still like clockwork), thinning hair, and thinning eyebrows (the outer third), so a thyroid panel and iron test was included. After not hearing back, I checked the results myself (had to Google to get some idea of ranges), and found that my iron, while not in the "low" or anemic range, was at the lowest number it could be before being considered anemic. Too me, that's low, especially if you're having symptoms. I'm supplementing with some gentle iron and eating lots of veggies (vitamin C!), and hair loss is improving, and periods are so much better. So, ladies, make sure you get a rundown on your results and not just "everything looks normal." As an aside, my doctor's office/clinic doesn't handle bloodwork. You get a requisition form and do it another day. On the other hand, I'm in Canada, so no dealing with insurance. It's all covered.
Then your doctor sucks. Fire them. Or find a different way to word your request, like "I'd like a blood panel to get a picture of my overall health, could you request it for me?" Mine never has a problem with listening to any concerns or requests I have.
I had my well woman a free days ago and the doctor asked me if I wanted blood work...and I was like, I don’t know! I wish I had seen this video a few days ago, I felt like my appointment was rushed and not complete. At least I had a 9:00 am slot!
Thank you for talking about blood tests for women. One other test that might be helpful is a uric acid test for gout. I recently found my uric acid levels were very high and was given gout pills.
Dr Mary Claire, I just found you today. I am mid fifties and have MS, osteopenia, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. I have watched several of videos this evening and peeked at your site. I think I am going to try the Galveston diet. I already fast but I don’t eat enough healthy foods. You have inspired me to change as I also want to lose 30 lbs. Thank you for your invaluable advice. You are beautiful inside and out!
when you ask your patients for their overall health, do you bill the well women exam is diagnostic/an illness visit instead of well women exam? A dr. just recently did that to my wife.
I am not a fan as I find that they mislead the consumer: www.eatright.org/health/allergies-and-intolerances/food-intolerances-and-sensitivities/are-food-sensitivity-tests-accurate

So glad you looked up your results!
Will ask my doctor, but I find many doctors don't like to be told what you to do 🤷♀️
Its ok to ask for what you want!

@@maryclairehavermd8473 Thanks!
A good doctor would want to have bloodwork to be thorough Find another doctor that cares about your health.

Hello Dr. Mary Claire, What about the Anemia Panel? I see it on your website but not here in this video. Thank you!

My pleasure

🙏 thank you. The best Magnesium test is? It is via a blood test or salve?
Blood tests are almost always superior to a saliva test
Hello Dr. Mary Claire, do you have somewhere I can get the full list of the test to ask for for when I go to my well woman exam?
Thanks for the video! As a 22 year old, are these tests still necessary?
Not at all!
@@maryclairehavermd8473 Excellent. Thank you for replying.
