I have never commented on any video UNTIL NOW, that was one of the best versions of this great classic song I have ever heard, it is both mine and my wife's favourite Irish ballad, you have a lovely singing voice, please could you record it again out of the wind.
It took about two minutes for the anthem to overcome all other noise inside the stadium, an incredible example of Irish pride and also a show of love for a group of players who were simply beaten by a better team on that evening. The best part of all for those of us watching on television was that commentators from around the world realised that a truly special moment was occurring, and they, outside of a word here and there, ceased calling the action.
this is on a scale of 1 to 99 and I just have to give your heart a big 100, I am getting older and it is rare my eyes well up, but this did it for me, your voice is a natural so change nothing and sing, sing, sing
A really beautiful song. Every version I have heard: this young lady, Ann Breen, Paddy Reilly etc reaches my soul. Just heard of it when I visited Dublin on August 2 this year and asked for CD that has beautiful Irish/Celtic songs. When i was told it is what they sing at football matches I realized I had heard it. Since then I sing it everyday and know all the words. Both melody and lyrics/meaning speak beautifully of true love and freedom. I love the Irish sound too.
This is my all-time favorite song! I feel like I am in heaven whenever I hear it! You have a great voice, too! It would be wonderful to hear you sing and play this song live and in person! :)
this is the best version of Fields of Athenry! all of the other ones are old men singing it and opera singers (not my taste)! One of my dancers sang this in our Dance presentation yesterday, she was the best at it and you sound almost as good as her!!
This master piece has been. echoing in my psyche. days/ months/& years... If I were blind( close too) I'd find my old eyes flooding as I fly over that ... prison ship;&, goosebumps& a lot of help from God... I'd rescue Michael... It just smashes me... ty💚🚣⚓
*I couldn't find a video with lyrics, but alas:* "By a lonely prison wall I heard a young girl calling... "Michael, they have taken you away... For you stole Trevelyan's corn, So the young might see the morn. Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay..." Low lie the fields of Athenry, Where once we watched the small free birds fly... Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing... It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry... By a lonely prison wall I heard a young man calling, 'Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free... Against the famine and the crown I rebelled; they cut me down Now you must raise our child with dignity.' Low lie the fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly... Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing... It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry... By a lonely harbour wall, She watched the last star falling, As that prison ship sailed out against the sky... For she lived in hope and pray, For her love in Botany Bay... It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry... Low lie the fields of Athenry, Where once we watched the small free birds fly... Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing... It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry..."
I'm French and 73 year old, I used to sing this song to my irish friends who emigrated and live since a long time in Brisbane; I know many interprétations of this so sad and realistic song, but yours is the best, really, and besides to be a very good singer you are a very charming young person.
