Sorry I said some of the characters names wrong. There is a whole UA-cam video with how to pronounce them. Also the series and movies say some different. I was only going by how my computer read them. Sorry for the ones upset by little things like this.
Haters gonna hate, Junkman!!
It's just entertaining to watch. I'm sure when I read the first four books as a teenager I wasn't getting the pronunciations right. It was my love of Star Wars that lead me to those books.
Ugh. That was one the more difficult things about reading these books. The names are so difficult and it was hard to read not knowing how they were pronounced.
I read this comment first and thought "I'm sure its not that bad" but goddamn, lol No big loss though. Still a great vid
Do you plan on reading any of the Dune books?
I didn’t see 84 Dune until many years after it released, but I fwickin love it. It’s so weird, but it’s so unique. I really need to get these toys...
I absolutely love Dune. A few years ago I finally read the book and I thought David Lynch did a perfectly fine job - it's the book but with Lynch's own idiosyncratic style blended in. I'm glad that it's finally found it's audience, and that it will be told again by a new group of people. I also think Gene Siskel was an asshole.
Junkman you have to watch this movie. Twice if you need to. The soundtrack by Toto is awesome.
Your timing is great, as pictures from the new Dune film were released today.
Right around when this movie came out I was starting to listen to bands like the Police. I saw Sting was in this movie and fell in love with his character Feyd. I had the action figure. I made a comic book with him in it. I even made a Halloween costume using a sh1t load of blue electrical tape. But honestly... I couldn’t even tell you what the movie was about at the time. It was way over my head. There was spice. Sting was wearing a winged bikini in one scene. A dude had to milk a cat to stay alive. And friggin Sting got a dagger shoved into his throat at the end. Man this brought back some strange memories junk man!
I was waiting for Siskel to say, "and it gets everywhere."
Never knew this toyline existed, Junkman- thanks for the history lesson!!! 😃🤗😄
And also thanks for reminding me what jerks Siskel and Ebert were...
🤨😤🤬😾😡
If what they're saying about the reboot is true, this franchise will have two failed toylines.
Comment aged like milk. Bruh ain't no clairvoyant.
DUNE is a film I had to watch a couple of times before I understood it..., but I'm glad I did. David Lynch tells the story not with words, but with visual metaphors. Sometimes what we see in the film isn't literal, sometimes it means something else. The soundtrack got me into the film and the film got me into the books and the TV series.
Cool figures! Thanks, Junkman! :)
peppermint oil capsule A lot of people just aren’t smart enough to understand the genius of David Lynch! Last Highway, Eraserhead elephant man… All crazy weird and the same time brilliant!
Once I realised what he was doing, it blew my mind. Next time you've got 5 hours to spare, check *this* out;
m.ua-cam.com/video/7AYnF5hOhuM/v-deo.html
Have to wonder if the critics ever read the books. Lynch did a good job of capturing the feel of them.
WOW!!! See sounded just like Mr Bay!!!! You forgot the other vehicle the sand-wich!!! 😂😂😂
Holy crap! I was 6 when this movie came out and I had no clue it had action figures! How cool.
LONG LIVE THE ACTION FIGURE FIGHTERS!!! 🐍
Still got my Stilgar figure, painted black of course! Much prefer the Lynch '84 stil suits to the new ones
The 84' stillsuits were very stylized indeed.... designed for that "cool" 80's look (hence, no hoods and facemasks). I do prefer them over the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries version.
Never had the figures but as an adult, I've become a fan of the Dune series of books. These figures really do look good for the time.
The first four are must reads
Just realized , Siskel and Ebert = Bert and Ernie
🤯🤣
I remember seeing the toys back in 85 at one of the shops inside Universal City Studios. Lynch's Dune gets a lot of negativity thrown at it but I like it. Far from being "an ugly movie", the sets and wardrobe were incredible, the soundtrack by Toto was epic and the special effects were good for the time.
Junkman thanks so much for showing these Dune toys.I wasn’t a fan of the movie when it came out so did not pay attention to these.Great Video!!!!
Something you might find of interest, Junkman. In the novel, the Weirding Way is basically discipline of the body and mind, a martial art form, and a means of mind control. (The Force, long before The Force was The Force..... but, The Force is The Force, of course, of course, and Jedi would master The Force of course, that is, of course unless The Force were The Weirding Way instead.) 😁 ahem....I digress....
David Lynch took a creative liberty with The Weirding Way in that he did not want "Kung Fu In the Desert" so he created, the Weirding Module, a line of weaponry, from hand held to heavy gun, that would take its operator's voice chant, and convert it into a blast of deadly energy. Lynch wanted his version of Dune to be more of a shoot 'em up, like (perhaps inadvertently) Star Wars.
Long live the Junkman! By the way that Raban rifle turned up in the Thundercats toyline later on
Honestly, I've never seen this movie, and I don't know if I should...🤔❓
Never seen it either ;)
It's a good movie. Still helps to read the book first to understand some of the creative liberties he took. It is neat how Lynch gave the film an anti- tech look.
@@martok2112 I'll pass on that, I'm not a book reading kinda person...💯✔
It's bizarre and boring, but mostly boring. Too much politics and a very dull, unimaginative universe with unengaging characters. Most of the effects are laughable, even for the time (as pointed out by Siskel and Ebert).
There is also the miniseries from 2000, which I've never seen.
@@dreamlandnightmare It can indeed be a long, drawn out, boring movie if you compare it to Star Wars (or even Battle Beyond the Stars). I also agree that some of the visual effects, while not necessarily low-end, are not very thrilling. I think this (VFX) was a conscious decision on David Lynch's part, just like the anti- tech look of the film. The SciFi Channel miniseries version does have a slightly more high tech look to it, and I love it as much as the 1984 version.
Lol! Btw, if you thought the theatrical release version of Dune (2hrs. 17mins) was long, drawn out and boring..... you'll find yourself bored into oblivion with the 3 hour cut, as well as laugh your head off at how shoddily it was edited. David Lynch wanted nothing to do with that cut, so he changed the director's credit to Alan Smithee....a practice done by directors who might not want their name attached to a project.
Ive tried watching dune many times since 1984 and have never been able to get more than 15 min in before tuning it off.
Wow! I had no idea these existed. I remember watching Dune on TV as a kid and being really confused by what I was watching, it’s definitely grown on me as an adult...I just picked up the first three books in paperback so was excited fo see this as well!! 👍🏼
But it’s a classic now
Considering it's LJN, the figures are pretty awesome. Had enough thought to include a army builder!
True. Even Stilgar looks like a generic Fremen Warrior. Like the pilot Luke from Kenner
One major problem is... the books are aimed at smart people and "the market'" as a whole, has very few ... This is why awful movies do well and potentially great movies get dumbed down into lesser movies. Most people are just plain stupid and can't handle anything above a 5th grade level.
Maybe it’s my affectation for underdogs but I always enjoyed this movie. I remember wishing the toys incorporated more of the Harkonnen soldiers.
Saw Dune 1984 with my dad during one of my weekends with him .. as he always did with Star Wars or Raiders .. he always bought me the figures to go along with the movie before I saw it .. had 3 Dune 84 figures in my lap while I watched the movie lol.. Clash of the Titans were super cool ass figures I also loved
Did u do anything on the obscure 80s toys ? Like INSECTOIDS ? Or those cool ass Dungeons and Dragons action Figures in the early 80s?
“Hargon” lol junk man you so crazy 😜 Harkonnan great video this takes me back..
That Trooper had a Matchbox logo in the upper right corner, were they a distributor in another country??? I saw this as a kid and didnt know wtf was going on. Watched as an adult and didnt know wtf was going on.
Yes UK I believe was under Matchbox
Great video Junkman
I absolutely love this movie I wish their was several sequels.
Bonjour Junkman,
To me, the best thing in this movie is the soundtrack from Toto ! Majestic, powerfull and also romantic ! A great moment when i want to read ( again ) some pages from the original novel while listening to the music !
I have to wonder if Siskel and Ebert ever actually watched the movie, or were just going by what they saw in the trailers. Did either of them ever read the books?
Lol will ebert do you give it a thumbs up
@@ThatJunkman I've always loved the movie. The SyFy channel remake was decent, but still not great. Looking forward to the new one coming out soon.
I remember seeing these at Zayre's as a kid. Never bought any though.
I still have all the figures and the sandworm complete. I loved Dune when it came out and can't wait for the new film. I hope we get some new action figuresvfor Dune 2020.
Dude, you murdered every character name.
Have you not watched my videos???
Lol.....are you intentionally mispronouncing the names of the characters?? 🤣 I had the Tarpel gun.
Have you watched the Grace Randolph video talking about the first look of the new Dune?
@@rogerpalsgrove9678 Gonna watch it now......
Just watched it.
New dune will be fun big and woke trash all in one. Nobody’s going to see this! It’s a niche franchise that ppl like me love, and they just took a giant shit on it and the fans. Fans and channels all already pissed off.
If this is rated R, then the studio is fucked!? The director is great, and I love Batista, and I’ll catch when I can rip it for free;
I agree! It's probably going to be woke rubbish. Hollyweird just can't help themselves over the past few years. I'll maybe watch the new one when it's free, but it's not on my priority list. I'm happy with the book and the 1984 movie.
my aunts husband is a huge Dune fan.books.she got me the figures.they were cool.i used em with he man figures
This is a classic scifi movie in my opinion ive seen some of the scifi channel's mini series version but i never cared much for it and recently ive seen pics of the new one coming out and its looking interesting but this one will always be a favorite and it has a great cast..and damn it i want some of those figures still!!
Whats up junkman...oh i forgot to mention that soundtrack too
I once saw one of those sand worm toys and thought it was a Sarlec
I remember buying this movie on vhs from Columbia house several years ago. I read some where that it was similar to star wars. It was not! I watched it only once and probably didn't rewind it! LOL I have never had the desire to watch it again
If Lynch read the book it probably would’ve turned out to be a better movie.
Gordon Sumner. Will not comment. But I have it on Sega CD. ? Well that's history. Or something...
I did enjoy the film.
Too bad they didn't let Lynch have 3 or even 2 films to tell the story. It was a jumbled mess at times, but the toys were good, still wish I had a Sting figure. Some of the things most people hated about the movie that I liked was: The personal shields, the Gun technology, knowing what the characters are thinking (having the actors say the part but not speaking on film) audio only
Decent enough looking figures. Another good one, Junkman
Tarpel Gun? So this was from the Phantom Menace? Lol
... you know, the guy that arrested jar jar and Kenobi n qui Gonn when they went underwater?
Baron Hog-On is my favorite character.
Siskel would just loooooove today's shows! Great clip. Nevrr got into fune but it's nice to see a toy line for kids of an adults' movie!🤣 I'm sure that series 3 would do a crossover with The Love Boat too...😁
LJN=Laughing Joking Numnuts according to Angry Video Game Nerd.
I haven’t watched Dune in years
I didn't see the movie until a high school film class in the late '80s. Wasn't impressed with it. Prior to that, I remember seeing these toys in stores but was NEVER interested in them. They were peg and shelf warmers until they were finally clearanced.
And now they're worth a lot of money.
@@dreamlandnightmare To whom? 😉
Fear is the mind killer...
There’s also a version of Dune that was a made for TV movie from The Sci-fi Channel before they started to suck. I think it’s worth watching, it’s pretty good and does a better job of adapting the story from the book
My Texas Grandma sent me the Sand Worm as a gift. But I wasn't allowed to see the movie because it was rated PG-13.
My gosh the pronunciations of the names jeeez
Looks like they are very well made figures, shame they bombed alongside the movie. LJN are most famous for making crappy video games based on licenced IPs.
I never knew this exasperated
The spice must flow..
"walk without rhythm , won't attract the worm"
The sleeper must awaken..
I didn’t have any of those figures, but it was interesting.
I remember watching this at my cousin's house. Longest movie I had ever seen. I have the Children of Dune. That was on the SyFi channel. Dune action figures? 🤤
opening with the awesome Virginia Masden, got my vote
As a fan of the books since age 12 in 94, I saw the movie on video at age 13 and thought the movie sucked as it was too much a lynch movie than a Herbert dune movie as it was too weird for the sake of being weird as lynch was a miscast director and just gross for being gross like the newborn baby born in blood and boils extracted. The miniseries tried but didn’t had the budget and I enjoyed the latest adaptation
Thanks for this video, Junkman. I didn't realize there were *that many* this based on Dune that were released.
However, your pronunciation of character names is a bit....cringe. lol. If it's because you don't know much about Dune, I'll forgive you. If it was deliberate......then May Thy Knife Chip and Shatter. 😁
May the Force Be With You and Yours, Junkman.
The new Dune is gonna be huge and shitty woke crap at the same time. I was kinda looking forward to it.
I don't know this exasperated
I think I saw The Sand Worm in a porno once.
Wow !!! you totally butchered those character names.. the only one you got right was Fayed all you had to do was watch the Dune movie these figures were based on to learn their names. .. fun stuff..
then you wouldnt have left a comment
Nice review, but you really gotta work on those pronunciations. You watched the movie, right?
Never seen it
I tried so hard to get into this movie
Junk I have to laugh! Do you even attempt to pronounce the names or do you just have fun making up new ones? 🏆
Just saying what my computer said it was. Sorry
@@ThatJunkman Don't every change Junk!
Haha, these two film reviewers are total loosers... 😂 Linch has the last laugh as Dune is a classic now... As far as the special effects are concerned, I think there great‼️👍🏻😄 & you can see the HR Giger influence... 🌞⛺
Lynch disowned the movie and has said he regrets making it
