we were living in Hollywood in 1984, my Uncle took me to see DUNE , I was 9 . I knew nothing about it, he lied to me and told me it was like Star Wars... it was not ... I remember wondering why everyone was whispering or yelling all the time in that movie.. I was captivated by it from beginning till end.. the music , the characters, costumes, the third stage guild navigator, on my ...
after leaving the theater we went to TOY R US ( you guys remember TOY R US right.? ) I was told I can pick two toys , we turn the corner of the toy aisle and I saw about 8 or 10 DUNE figures on the pegs , I was not expecting DUNE figures , but there they were.. I immediately grabbed a Feyd , then a Stilgar , I dont recall a Sardaukar being there , and I know for sure the Baron was not there because I looked , and asked my uncle to help find one, he was not to be found.. ( I did however some time later get a Baron second hand , when I traded a kid at school my A Team Howling Mad Murdock figure for his Baron , when he told me at school that he had one , I was like game on , bring it, i will trade for it, what do want? ) I chose Feyd and Stilgar those were the two figures for the day , and i hid the only Rabban that was there in the Barbie aisle , hoping to come back and get it at some point later, but that never happened.. at the register when paying they had those old wax card packs of DUNE movie cards, I was allowed one pack .. I went home that night with everything DUNE in my head, been a massive fan ever since.. I love that film..

As much as I love super 7 the piece for their reaction figures is outrageous compared to the 10-13 dollars Hasbro’s new Kenner styled figures
Yeah, I definitely think they went with those weird silhouette card backs to avoid using the actor's likenesses.
I'd love to see a navigator (or what the slugs are called). It would probably make great friends with Jabba :)

granted the action feature on the original LJN DUNE figures are not appealing to the adult collector eye , as a now almost 50 year old man I agree, but having this in hand at 9 or 10 years old , it was a blast playing with these LJN DUNE's , Indiana Jones, and Thundercats as a kid. all had similar play features.. so I would say they did there job LJN did not design these things with the forethought that anyone would be talking about then in 2022 , they were designed as a play thing for children in 1984 to play with then discard.. so they win.. GOOD JOB LJN!!!

Cool to see new Reaction Dune figures. Good points about the unique card art, whereas a photo of the actors would have been more detailed than the silhouette on the card art. Thanks for the details.
I’m so excited! I had no idea that Funko was making these until you uploaded this video. I’m glad to see this underrated gem finally getting some attention, let alone merchandise! My only wish for this line is that we can get a third stage Guild Navigator in his big spice aquarium locomotive thing.

They look quite good actually! They're well edited and I like your use of text, photos and video from the movie. Personally I would make the video horizontal if you're making it for UA-cam (and not TikTok or UA-cam Shorts), but that's about the only comment I have.

It's odd how so many new action figures seem to be a chalky plastic compared to older ones. It's like older figures had a glaze on them. Some odd choices for this line, the Warrior has 3 accessories, but the other figures have 2, 1 or none. I feel like the desert look figures should have come with Weirding Modules or knives, since they used both. Would also have been nice to have a slightly better character choice, maybe one less Paul, and instead a Feyd or Chani figure. I also agree the cardbacks don't look at all vintage. They could just have used the teaser poster image (which doesn't feature the cast) which would have looked authentic. At least these figures are widely available... unlike the Disney exclusive Tron figures...

Cool figures and a no brainer for Super Seven!
In 1984 DUNE the rope Paul uses is black with these pink tabs threw out, or at least the tabs photograph as light pink.. also Stilgar's stillsuit never appeared black in the film, he wears a weathered stillsuit that is covered in spice and sand, and appears a dirty brown, as do all the fremen , the stilsuit is meant to be black yes, but the only time one sees brand new out of the box black still suits is on Duke Leto Gurney and Paul when they first try them on and go out for a tour of the desert.. . the ReAction Stilger color is technically accurate , but does not exactly look screen accurate, as it is more black then brown, but I give them an A for effort , the wash looks cool. .. .. ..

Man I hope Reaction Super 7 does a female stillsuit body and releases Jessica like in the aborted 2nd wave of the '84 LJN line and a Chani figure ! Also why not use the existing male stillsuit body to create a Liet Kynes and a generic Fremen warrior and maybe even a Gurney Halleck in a charcoal grey stilltuit ! ?... Being able to display a small Fremen troop would be hellacool ! What can I say ?... I just LOVE stillsuits from that movie !
... Just one thing though... why no crysknife for the stillsuited figures ?
Those new figures are ok. But there is just something about ReAction that doesn't do it for me. They look so generic. I will stick with the originals.
They’re definitely more for people who don’t already have the originals, but hopefully subsequent waves will have some new characters
This may be the best and last opportunity to realize a lifelong dream: a third stage guild navigator toy.
For what it’s worth, you can get a 3D model for a guild navigator from the Kickstarter I mentioned at the end of the video. So you could potentially have someone print it for you but it’s not the same as a factory-made toy
Yup....I backed the KS also.
This is the problem with every ReAction figure line....I'd only want them if they did a 2nd wave; Fremen Paul, Gurney and the other Harkonens...but we know they won't.
They don't ever do 2nd waves unless its a tentpole line...and even then, there's really no guarantee.
On the cardart conundrum, it's obvious the art w/the silhouette of the character was done so that they didn't have to pay additional likeness rights to the actor.
Having said that, Super7 should make these cards more "collector-friendly", so we can display them w/or w/out the figure. Perhaps use a plastic case over the card where, like a sleeve, you could remove the card & the figure inside w/o breaking open the bubble, potentially ruining the cardback.
It may very well be true that they did it this way to avoid paying royalties (as I mentioned). But there are plenty of ReAction figures that do use photos from the films so I don’t know if we can say that for sure. I mean just look at the Pulp Fiction figures for example. It’s also possible that there’s something about the licensing for the original Dune movie that makes it more complicated to use photos of the actors now. Not sure
@@MightyJabbasCollection - Actually, the Pulp Fiction figure cardbacks only use the movie poster for every single figure. They don't use a picture of the actor for each figure.
In fact, the reason why they make the ReAction figures have very simple, nearly-stylized features, is for that very reason. Too close of a likeness & they would have to pay the actors a fee.
Apparently they changed the design - the images I saw had individual versions for each character.
@@MightyJabbasCollection - No doubt they were mock ups. Likely the plan was to have the character from the movie on the cardback, up until they realized how much more it was gonna cost them. 😏

I'm guessing so due to the action feature.
I don't think they use elastic bands for the limbs at all, but there might be some involved in the action features. I'm not sure how they work

Yep I also have that (you can see it in my earlier video) but technically it is in scale with the vehicles and not the action figures

the Atreides uniforms from Caladan in 1984 DUNE are a very dark green, they only look black in the film because of lighting , the 1984 LJN Paul figure is a correct color , LJN just lighted the color a bit to make the line more colorful to appeal to children... the new reAction Paul figure is not a correct color.. ..
My opinion is that if something appeared one color on screen and in all of the publicity photos, it should look that way in merchandise, regardless of what the actual color of the prop was.
@@MightyJabbasCollection I'll ante on this and one up by saying something a bit 'scandalous' --- I always think that figures should best represent the color in the film, rather than the production stills. It totally depends on lighting, of course, but if it's closer to the look on screen I'm happy.

the original LJN Paul figure looks sad because he had his father murdered , his mother was almost rapped, his kingdom taken from him , and he lost his dog.. ( he was lucky he got his dog back ).. just saying..

I really like all the reAction packaging they have put out over the years , but I dont like the figures.. I will pass on these .. if you want a real DUNE figure get the NOW PLAYING Baron from 15 years ago ...
I do have that one and yes it’s quite good, although not poseable at all
