“I want to thank you so very much” for these video’s on the early red lines paticulary, You have helped me so much as a newer collector, “ Thank you” for sharing your knowledge for guys such as myself , Again “ THANK YOU”.!!!
You are very welcome!!! I'm happy to hear that my videos are of help to you and other collectors, it can be tough to find the information on these older cars, so I'm bringing all of it together for each year in one video! It's a lot of fun for me to bring the cars off the wall and look at them all close up again!
I was seven in 1975 and had a few shoeboxes full of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. I had them until I was 19 in 1987 and intended to give them to my son someday, but they were stolen. But as it goes, my sister worked at a music store in 1975 and would get her paycheck every week and buy me one new Hot Wheel, and for her a new album. Those cars meant a lot to me, especially the yellow Monte Carlo because my father had that exact real-life car (in red). Thanks for posting this video. That was really nice looking back on many of those cars I had forgotten about and wished I could have given to my son, who ended up collecting cars, even now as an adult. Oddly enough, I have those albums she bought in near mint condition, despite losing all of my cars.
The history, the commentary, and the Hot wheels are A+ all the way. I'll be time traveling back to 1975 and buying all of these at rack prices and sending you the mint on card editions :) Thanks for the video my Hot Wheel Historian!
Always makes me giddy looking at old Hot Wheels cars. Especially ones of this vintage as I had a lot of these back then. Great video and great information. I have all of mine on display in my mancave and enjoy just looking at them and even playing with them on the track once in a while. Keep up the great work on the videos.
Your collection and knowledge continues to amaze me O-Dawg...I'm a van guy so I really liked that section of the video..I actually watched it a few times...and I'm sure a few more times in the future as a reference.
Thank you my friend! I too am a van guy, and I can tell you, lots more vans coming in the future years/videos! But 1975 was really the best year for the Super Vans, and fitting being that it was their first year in the casting line-up.
Fabulous video and a great resource for the pro and casual collector. The monza would have to be my favourite from this year. Although warpath comes in a close second.
I live in the UK so its a bit harder for me to get the earlier cars. Just spent last night watching your streams on 70s through to 90s cars which is what I have started collecting. I have been collecting for about a year now and have only just started getting into the early cars. I am 53 years young and believe me the Hot Wheels bug never goes away.
Back in the 70s i had most of the hot wheels u have been showing i loved hot wheels and everytime i watch ur hot wheels vids o man does it bring back memories i look at them and im like i had that i had that and some i still do have altho the cars i have are pretty beat up cause i played with all of them anyway great video man
Your Hot Wheels were loved, and if not for that you likely wouldn't have the nostalgia for these little cars you do today. I know my cars from my childhood were well loved too... The cars you see in these videos are among the few that escaped major playtime, LOL :)
Once again, another outstanding presentation. I'm currently working on adding '67/'68 redlines to my modest collection when I can as well as the original orange track packages. Thank you for such excellent information on the various variations as well as pricing as I will eventually expand to collecting the '70's era Hot Wheels.
This is an informative and well thought out series. I know a lot of these original die cast cars were a premium price but yowzers. amazing collection. thanx for pulling them down and showcasing them. ;)
Large Charge and Monte Carlo Stocker are two castings i'd love to see return in some form or another. If i ever decide to collect at least some of these, i'll certainly use this video as a reference. Great job on the detailed presentation and pricing!
Love your video thanks for posting . I notice the Large Charge casting you have has the basic Redline back wheels there is another version of the back wheels of this casting it comes with the original Redline axles wheels in the back. Just like the yellow Porsche only it has the Redline axles wheels in the front.
Thank you! Quite probable that there were axle and wheel variations for most if not all cars released in 1974 and 1975 as original redline wheels were being phased out. Nothing went to waste, the old wheels in surplus often found themselves on new castings.
I am matching up "Variations". I have been busy so I just put my Hot Wheels in cases. Now I am going through trying to do the memory game because I dont have a gym floor to spread them out. Im putting them on the table and trying to go from case to case...You know how easy it would be if YOU WERE HERE...LOL. Man with your Brains and knowledge it would be a snap...
I would say you are correct, based on your observations with the wheels. Much of my information on these cars and release dates in particular is based on second hand information and research, which sometimes can have a few "holes" and require tweaking.
Absolutely loving these videos by year -- awesome idea. Quick question for you -- do you know why Hot Wheels un-branded some of the sports cars like the Porsche to the P-911 -- similar to the Street Beast / Ferrari 308. Was it to avoid licensing costs?
I believe you are correct, Hot Wheels got away with a lot of cars named odd names that clearly resembled a real vehicle. Cars that were at one time named were likely not up to the standards of the actual car manufacturers, since the scale and proportions were often way off to give them the "Hot Wheels muscle car look". Back then all the companies could do was ask Mattel to rename their car, nowadays they completely stop making them!
Hey Owen, Great Video! You mentioned that the Dune Daddy would only appear one more time however I think it also appeared as a Boulevard release. Can you verify that?
Correct, Shawn. The Dune Daddy was released in the Boulevard release, decades after the original casting and tooling was retired. The tooling was new and slightly different for the recent model, however it still counts and was an oversight of mine. Good catch!
hello I recently started to collect hot wheels again and in this video the large charge you said you haven't seen a 1974 model i have one its orange with a purple tampo.
Hey Wtffor, quick question. My Black Super Van has the flames with grey windows and chrome plastic base. But it doesn't have the side light markers sticking out, is this svan real? They all seem to have them but mine. Thanks for your time, just trying not to get ripped off. Scott
Hi Scott, great question! You will be relieved to know that you do have an authentic variation of the original Super van. Many Super Vans made in 1974 through 1977 featured the "marker light casting variation", or without. I personally have found that the no marker light variation can be a bit harder to find. Good find!
Hot Wheels took the diecast market by storm when they were introduced, due mainly to the superior speed of the cars, available race track play sets (which were highly custimizable as well), the cars hot rod styling, and plentiful colors. All of these things along with superior marketing strategies quickly drew a much larger audience and collector fan base then Matchbox. Years Later Mattel would by out Lesney, the manufacturers of Matchbox, but thankfully they are still making Matchbox and kept its identity separate from Hot Wheels.
I spent years converting the database to around 90 Excel spread sheets, each interlinked with each other, and full of large file size pictures of each car that I own as well as file photos from the old web-site. For this reason the database as I have it now sits at nearly 5 GB of data, and pretty much no way to share it unless I hosted a web-page, which at this time I do not have time to set up and manage. There are a lot of good sites out there though with much of the same information I amassed, other then accurate pricing and the rarest variations info.
wtffor that's intense! I didn't realize how much you had done with it! good idea though, thank you for the reply and keep up the great vids. much appreciated 😃
Well not insane just ment that is so many i see ur walls and just about everywhere is covered with them just never thought 50 000+ dam thats alota cars
wtffor so i watched ur vid tonight i watch all ur vids but those trucks were just badass my favorite was the charger however im not a fan of that year tho but that one was pretty sweet
I have a 1974 super van with red line wheels but the wheels are totally different from any of yours and the decorative markings are unidentifiable. Please respond if you have any information on it. It is white
If you do watch "Emergency" I recommend not watching the 1st episode first. There is no real story line and the 1st is very boring compared to later ones.

What a glorious year for Hot Wheels ! Super video, as usual, thanks man.

Thanks in advance for the cars from the past!! Buy yourself a couple sets while your their! :)
I love the wrecker. Thank you for this nice video!
Always makes me giddy looking at old Hot Wheels cars. Especially ones of this vintage as I had a lot of these back then. Great video and great information. Very nice to hear of your collection, congrats! I too get giddy looking at these little beauties!

Even though I'm not particularly interested in this subject, for some reason it's just very relaxing watching these videos!
Hey, thank you! That's a big compliment and I'll take it! :)
ya they are
I love watching these vids. I like the longer 59min vids too - never too much for me to watch.
Fabulous video and a great resource for the pro and casual collector. The monza would have to be my favourite from this year. Although warpath comes in a close second.
These yearly collection shows are pretty cool!
awesome year of cars
aw man, I like the who, what, when, where, why and sometimes how though! Long or not.
You are the UA-cam hot wheels legend! All well explained. Love the super vans. Looking forward to your next video.
I really like these videos, and have no issue with them being long
Also if you layed them out in an S-shape then you would not need to whip the camera back to the other side to continue in order :-)
That is a great suggestion! I will give that a try! Thanks!
Thank you for making these! I only discovered your channel recently but love watching it.
Tough day today and this video really took my mind off things, great presentation as always.
I'm sorry you had a rough day friend, Hot Wheels cheer me up when I'm down too. Thank you for watching and hopefully things will improve tomorrow!
love the cars and love the info, well explained and also rare for someone to give prices which gives us a guide.
Thank you very much! I'll be sure to continue to include pricing information, for each model instead of just some of them.

Ya man i played all the time i remember i had a 69 purple el camino and i broke one of the wheels i was devistated lol it was my favorite car

Green Green gremlin was another herfys car..
excellent as always, but I had a large Charge,p-911, and Vega bomb all with front cap wheels. I believe these were all released in late 1974.
I would say you are correct, based on your observations with the wheels. Much of my information on these cars and release dates in particular is based on second hand information and research, which sometimes can have a few "holes" and require tweaking.
The rambling Wrecker was also based on the Ford F-150 Towtruck from the 1974 Gone in 60 seconds as well
Awesome series! Informative and entertaining O-dawg! Did the Gremlin Grinder get missed?
You are correct! Dang! What happened to the GG footage?! I'll add it in on the next video, thanks for pointing that out!
Looking forward to your 1977 video
Ahh, good year. Introduction of all Blackwall wheels on all cars, and lots of new models.
A bit late to the WTFfor party
but never to late to learn
Fabulous and informative
Thank You
Welcome, and thanks for your comment!
Excellent video, so informative, keep um coming!!!

I had a large charge in chrome when I was a kid, I'm not sure if it was from 1976? It's a car I would like to buy again... thanks for the video!
Yes, that car was from 1976. You will see it in mint condition in one week, in my next video - 1976 Hot Wheels!

What about super chromes
So how many cars do u think u have?
My last reasonable estimate was 50,000.... but that was years ago. I am guessing closer to 55,000 now.
wtffor wow that is insane
Well not insane just ment that is so many i see ur walls and just about everywhere is covered with them just never thought 50 000+ dam thats alota cars
