Please note! The prices I showed is what I paid. None of these are for sale. If you were counting, one car got left out! Custom Continental Mark III ($73) See it here: instagram.com/p/BhSEfUuju1g/?taken-by=racegrooves or twitter.com/racegrooves/status/982714672599257091 I paid $15 each for the red and green Jet Threat models Also, when I mentioned that the Hot Wheels Cheetah is rare, the model is actually Python, not The Demon.
In '68 I was 12 years old. I had all the Hot Wheels cars from '68-'70. Our family moved to a new town in '72 and now that I was in high school I thought I was too old for these. I gave them all away to the kid across the street before we left. Dang!
It was the Python that was originally slated to be named Cheetah, but there was a copyright issue. It was subsequently changed to Python. You can tell the base die was changed as the nameplate section is raised on Pythons because they had to alter the original base die by engraving over it thus raising the cast piece. There are a few original run Cheetahs that do exists but they are very rare. I've had the privilege of holding one in hand. They are, I believe, only red ones. The Demon was based on the real Lil Coffin custom car but was named Demon to get around copyright issues.
My first HOT WHEELS were the purple metal flake Dode Charger, and the metal flake lime green Hot Heap w/ white interior. I got ' em with the track set on Christmas, 1970
I also collect hot wheels but i don't worry about perfection i enjoy my cars for Nostalgia reasons, i also collect many other types of toys. Keeping this hobby Fun!!!
Thankyou so much, I just bought a really rough "the hood" I polished it up and I did not notice the working piece, brilliant, makes the buy that much cooler!
The Mighty Maverick is my favorite redlines car, and the only one i have i found with a metal detector..so you can imagine the condition!!..lol I have a few nice redlines that i just love but i'll have a minty aqua mighty maverick before it's said and done..i hope. Great buys.
In 1975 I was 15 years old and by that time had a fairly decent collection of the Hot Wheels cars in a Hot Wheels case stored away in the bedroom closet.. Although at 15 you have other things on your mind instead of playing with toy cars, and now regret giving that's right giving my whole collection away to a friend of the family little boy that was around 8-9 years old. They probably would have been worth a fairly good sum these day's,but I did make a little boy happy at the time.
You have a few years on me but my story is similar. My cars got passed down to younger brothers, then to nephews. They got more play value and enjoyment than any amount of money could buy. Think about the hours and hours of entertainment that they provided rather than 'what could they be worth' nowadays =)
@@racegrooves I remember I was probably around 10-11 years old and went to spend a weekend at my aunt and uncles home. They had just one son that was 2-3 years older then me. He had a very nice collection of the Hot Wheels cars also. One in particular was the silver Boss Hoss Mustang I was looking over close. He said you really like that one huh, I said yes. He said I can get you one practically free, I have a extra mail order voucher here and all we have to do is fill it out with your name and address then mail it off. He said I"ll pay for the postage for you. About two weeks later it came in the mail to my home and I'll never forget that, I had my own BOSS HOSS Mustang. Thanks to my cousin Gary.
I'm quite satisfied with the video. Over 50 cars in less than 30 minutes. I hope that the intro showing the difference between original Redlines and modern straight-axles is beneficial to new collectors. It just depends on watch time and engagement to see if UA-cam picks up the video in their algorithm to help spread the information.
Love the Redlines! I had most of them. Don't have a clue as to where they got to as I grew up. The Fleetside, Heavy Chevy, Mighty Maverick, Firebird, etc. Loved that Custom Ford and Demon, too!
You know the Demon also used the name Prowler , is actually Dave Steckley’s “Lill Coffin” built at Darrel Starbirds’ Kustoms , while Steckleys was an employee . It actually is a 1932 Ford sedan , highly kustomized and powered by an early Chrysler Hemi topped with 8 2brl strombergs . It must have gone like hell , and scared the crap outta anyone brave enough to drive it , hence the name . It became a huge success with the 1/24 scale Monogram plastic model kit . While Monogram kept the original Lill Coffin name , I’ve always wondered why Mattel changed it .
Regarding the name change from Lil Coffin to The Demon, I'm sure it has to do with 'kids toys'. Parents might think it's morbid. Matchbox stopped selling their Hearse due to consumer complaints.
great video- I've been watching your Racegrooves channel since I have started collecting toy cars-(2017) I've learned and continue to learn from your top notch videos and knowledgeable content- you got me into the VW drag bus from the killer videos you have made about that iconic Phil Rhielman tooling/castings
RaceGrooves -----You are my Hero-----I lov Hot Wheels with a passion but im poor So watching you lets me see what's on the Other side. THANK YOU... ***CATER***
Another great video, I just got a mutt mobile, demon, deora, snake and mongoose in a job lot of cars I just bought cheap. I bought the lot mainly for the deora, but the other Hotwheels were a bonus, one of the better bargains I have bought. I was aware of some of the moving parts on the older HW, but not all of them you showed, its always good to know which ones have moving parts, as they are what I collect mostly. Anything that is all metal, or has moving/opening parts, I am interested in and I have learnt lots of info from your videos over the years I have been collecting. thanks.
Wowies... I added the prices up... That's as much as my bug :P Some very nice pieces you have there tho, I love those sandcrabs! Might have to pick one up since they're not that expensive.
I collect hot wheels but I don’t know much about them. I have a bunch of older ones my dad got from his uncles but they’re in rough condition because my dad was anything but gentle😂 but I have an original twinmill in the orange with blue and white patterns and a couple others that are some of my favourites. It’s always nice when they have sentimental value too
Wow awesome Redlines for the collection! I think the white glove collectors will go bezerk when you run these down the track! I forgot how great some of these names are,👻👍
Fantastic! I didn't realize you had that many Noodle Heads Mark, I mean I knew you had a case you carried to races but a whole jammer?? lol Nice. I have a whopping 4 and only recently got a near mint Magenta that seems to be pretty fast. I like the idea of retiring or changing classes for redline racing. Seems like there was a local race a few yrs back and they had a scale and did weight classes like within 10 grams of each other. Can't wait to see that side kick on the downhill. Oh by the way the Cheetah was on the Python base not the Demon. Hey thanks for sharing I enjoyed very much.
About half a Jammer of Noodle Heads =) I know that the staff at the Conventions can't have too many categories because they take time but 'basics' get quite a few categories. Basic cars, Funny Cars/Hot Ones, VW Bus only, and a 'theme' race which is usually basics.
S'cool Bus, Sand Crab and Funny Money are based on Monogram kits designed by Tom Daniels. You didn't have a Red Baron but a full size car was built from the model kit
Have you ever seen a dark green no flames original Jet Threat? I had one as a kid but can't find one now. Only spectra light green. I looked at listing of produced cars from then and wasn't listed. I remember I liked it b/c it was dark green. I can't remember if it had flames and I removed them or came that way.
So far so good!! Have to stop at 8 mins. Long day traveling. I’ll finish it tomorrow. From what I saw so far I can’t wait to see them race on your track. I know they would look great on my tracks ;)
Great lot of redlines you picked up there. I see a few already corrected you on the Cheetah casting. I've been adding quite a few redlines to my collection the past couple years. I've been getting some great deals at swap meets, thrift stores and buying lots on Ebay.
Yeah, I had put the corrected info in the description and in a pinned post but people aren't noticing my 'Cheetah' correction and other info =) Congrats on your swap meet and thrift store finds! I'd much rather buy them in person like that =)

The original redlines were only manufactured in the US and Hong Kong and will be marked on the base as such. Reissues will have Malaysia, China, or some other country of manufacture even though they will have the original copyright date of first issue on the base. Wheel types, bearing, capped or through axle will also be an indicator. As to repro/restorations, those can be harder to spot because there are some very expert restorers out there. Typically they will label a restored redline as such, but sometimes you run into unscrupulous operators, or perhaps someone who bought a resto and is trying to pass it off as an original. Fake rivets are a big giveaway and there are other tests that experienced collectors will use to verify the originality of a particular car. The value of an original redline is based on the color, the condition, the lack of toning, the quality of plating on the overall car, the condition of the wheels and glass. That blue Hot Wheels Funny Car was only rare in the #271 blister pack. It is VERY COMMON loose. It was also released as #277 as "Side Splitter" in the Race Team Series.
May I ask you a question sir? I have in my collection an alternate green heavy chevy in pretty fair condition. My question is everything I've been able to find about the car says it was released in 1974. It's a redline an dated 1969 on the metal base as well as Hong kong I've always thought it was a 1970 release car. Now I'm unsure what year the car is. Do you have any info regarding this car? The Classic Cord at 5:05, the Custom Fleetside at 7:27 , the Lola GT70 at 12:57 and the Carabo at 16:50 are some castings i'd like to see get re-released someday. I was really surprised to find that the Ferrari 512 S shown at 15:32 was an actual Ferrari car! Not many people would actually make races with these (or at least some of these) so it'd be nice seeing these on the track. Thanks for the extensive presentation of these oldies but Goldies RaceGrooves!
What's up with the window on the red Firebird? I love the killer purple Fleetside! Yum Yum! The yellow Mighty Mav is real nice! I would have stayed away from that TNT Bird..looks like a repaint and I don't buy the 'double paint' story. The Coupes are wicked! On the Demons, you mean Prowler, not Cheetah, that was the first Pythons.
Please note! The prices I showed is what I paid. None of these are for sale.

RaceGrooves cool cars
RaceGrooves I have a side kick two. On the hood mine says hotwheels redline
In '68 I was 12 years old. I had all the Hot Wheels cars from '68-'70. Our family moved to a new town in '72 and now that I was in high school I thought I was too old for these. I gave them all away to the kid across the street before we left. Dang!
Yup, mine went to my younger brothers, then to the nephews, then they got sold at a yard sale (in case this wasn't the video where I told my story).
@@racegrooves But I still have most of my 1/25 plastic car kits plus their boxes from that time, about half are unbuilt. One of these days...

Great presentation Mark, love the red lines, now time to get to building a new track for the cars to race and ride on.
I did not realize that these cars have so many moving parts,Awesome!
Beautiful redlines. My only redline is a 1971 olds 442.
The Geoffrey Vehicle's value Spiked on June 29, 2018. So maybe around $500 now?
In 2020, in such condition (near mint) I'd say $700 worth. Amazing find.
The Mighty Maverick is my favorite redlines car, and the only one i have i found with a metal detector..so you can imagine the condition!!..lol I have a few nice redlines that i just love but i'll have a minty aqua mighty maverick before it's said and done..i hope. Great buys.

bingo!!!

Found my 1970 Bugeye that I had in storage for many years. Just sold it on Ebay for $120.00 U.S.

Hi racegrooves!!

How can you tell if you got the something from the 70s if it's not a remade fake one what to look for and how to tell if it's really viable or just a remade one by someone else to make it look the same copy of the red lines?
The original redlines were only manufactured in the US and Hong Kong and will be marked on the base as such. Reissues will have Malaysia, China, or some other country of manufacture even though they will have the original copyright date of first issue on the base. Wheel types, bearing, capped or through axle will also be an indicator. As to repro/restorations, those can be harder to spot because there are some very expert restorers out there. The value of an original redline is based on the color, the condition, the lack of toning, the quality of plating on the overall car, the condition of the wheels and glass. If things like this don't add up, it gets suspicious. If you have a car with perfect paint, but the wheels are trashed, likely it has been a repaint. There are reproduction parts out there like wheels and plastic parts that the expert eye can tell the difference between, but they can fool a lot of people. A good restoration is just that and really, beyond the artistry, does not justify the asking price of a rare original. It's still a ten dollar beater brought back to life and doesn't make it worth an original in a tough color. This barely scratches the surface, though.
Really cool! Looking forward to some DHR with these. I have a later model sidekick - I’ll have to see how fast it is.
Love to see all of this cars and why not adding some details on some of that? but as always good video ;-)
Chaparral 2G reminds me of TOY story buzz light year car
Same.
Nice cars Mark and that's why u couldn't do ask racegrooves on Sunday April 8th and please read my comment on Sunday
#askracegrooves. This olds cars is possible to return in different models?.
Very cool thanks
Thanks now i want them all lol
I have a hot wheel model 271 and I heard that there are only six known in a blister pack. What would it be worth out of the blister pack.
That blue Hot Wheels Funny Car was only rare in the #271 blister pack. It is VERY COMMON loose. It was also released as #277 as "Side Splitter" in the Race Team Series.
great video
Nice cars mark can you show them again soon thanks
You got the demon mixed up with the python, are the rare ones with cheetah on the base.
Tienes el the demon ?
Im pretty sure the axles were old guitar strings form a failed mission to do like a small guitar for kids
Great cars all.
U got some from eBay and others online not remade ones between original and fake ones?
I bought all of these at a collector show. These are all original Hot Wheels from the first few years of Hot Wheels starting in 1968.
I just found a beat up Geoffrey van, I never thought it would happen in the UK, how much would a beat up, but rolling one go for?
