Also Kane was unmasked in the ring for the first time, surely deserved a mention. I mean, he was covering his face with his hand but you could clearly see he wasn't "burned". Kayfabe was alive back then after all. Correct me if I'm wrong. I remember dx unmasking him in a backstage segment but you couldn't see anything.
Thanks to the Attitude Era Podcast, I have a newfound appreciation for the brilliance of Chris Kreski. It's not fair that Vince Russo is a household name amongst wrestling fans for his mostly terrible ideas, but the guy who led the greatest year of the AE goes unknown. Seriously, there aren't any pictures of Kreski online anywhere, and he's responsible for some of our fondest wrestling memories. Though it's not fair to blame things on Stephanie taking over as "head writer", because that implies she was the sole creative driving force behind WWE. When in actuality, after Kreski left, that was when WWE started writing by committee. So when we say Steph was "head writer", all that means is that she was the head honcho who all of the writing team gave their ideas to, and she would then iron them out. She didn't have the same level of creative control as Russo and Kreski did.
I was at this SummerSlam! Bonus Fun Fact: WWE had people outside the stadium handing out literal mixtapes which included System of A Down, Crazytown, amongst other nu-metal "gems".
Hey Plumpy, this was much better than usual. Little fast paced mumbling, it sounded great. I always love your phrasing, your metaphors, descriptive terms and nicknames for everyone, its just always been that tendency to mumble while speeding up that drives me away, so great work man! Keep it up please.
I'd check out the Something To Wrestle podcast because according to Bruce Prichard, Kreski is given credit for a lot of highly regarded story lines even though he was a bit out of his element and didn't really do much. Prichard actually claims that Gewirtz was the spiritual head writer in that transition period between Russo and Stephanie.
2 Facts: The match Undertaker and Kane was the first time we see Kane in his sleeveless attire. The one he wore when he and Taker became the Brothers of Destruction again in 2001. The referee who officiated the match stated that he would just let them fight and not get involved, which is why neither Taker or Kane tried to pin each other or make them tap and why Kane forfeited when he was unmasked. For the first time I might add.
Bruce Prichard spoke about Summer Slam 2000 on his last Podcast. He spoke about Chris Kreski and stated that while he was a very nice person, he really didn't write much of the show. He states that more often then not, Brian Goertz would pitch ideas to McMahon and they would together form story lines then Kreski would simply format it into a script if you will.
Ah, Summerslam 2000. I was lucky enough to be there for it with my brother. I still remember the entirety of the crowd giving a simultaneous "Hooooly shiiit!" as Shane fell off the rigging.
Plumpy doesn't exactly make it a secret that he hates R-Truth with all of his being. There's a clip of him staring blankly into a camera with a serious expression in an arena while everyone around him goes "what's up?" "what's up!" "what's up?" "what's up!", and I've seen him use it like at least a half a dozen times.
I remember the Big Show being sent down. During one of the earlier seasons of Tough Enough, he talked about being sent down and he said it was a wake-up call that if he did not put his ego in check immediately and get back in shape, his career was going to be over very soon.
SummerSlam 2000.... my god that was a good and memorable event in my childhood, such as as seeing new young talent debuting , the first TLC match, Shane falling from the titantron, Jerry lawler beat Tazz with help from JR and it was the night where The Undertaker unmasked Kane and for me at the time this was one of the first times that we would try and get a good look as to what Kane's face would've looked liked even though we know today even since the unmasking in 2003 but there was always that dark question as to if he was really burnt or not. Good times....good times...
Man I wish I could go back and be there again!!! What a great show. Couldn't believe The Hardyz didn't win being from right down the road but, not hating, got an incredible match. Heck, they all were incredible.
I know I have asked before, but am I the only one that used to watch WCW from 8-9 Raw from 9-11 and then watch the rebroadcast of WCW from 11-12, Some Tuesdays were rough getting out of bed and going to school.
Horribly sad that the late Chris Kreski doesn't get the recognition he deserves, he oversaw easily the greatest top-to-bottom year of of the Attitude era and indeed televised wrestling.
This was the first PPV I ever attended. I was in the cheap seats and I swear Shane O'Mac was eye level with where we were sitting. I thought he died taking that bump off the tron 😂😂but then again I was only 11 at the time. Excellent show!!!
I've learned a lot of interesting things that I otherwise wouldn't have been bothered to look up from watching these lists. I can't wait for the "10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series ____ Facts" lists. ;)
Writing before: We have a specialty match with chairs, let's create a move for a team with chairs and run a story with it before even telling anyone there's a specialty match coming. Now: We have a specialty match with chairs, let's talk about how one of the teams is great with chairs and make them perform one chair spot before the ppv.
2000: The year The Attitude Era mixed with the best of ECW and WCW. The wrestling was the one thing missing from 98-99. 2000 had the best wrestling and storytelling and holy shit moments.
I was there at this show.. It was great, but probably the best show I'll ever attend. Not looking like they will come close any time soon. PS- Time to shelf Jack the Jobber.
It's hilarious that WWF instantly improved post Russo-Ferrara and would continue to get better in 2001. Then it sucked a bit later in 2001 with the Invasion angle. Then Paul Heyman came in 2002-03 and SmackDown became the best written, booked and wrestled programme in WWE history, in large part to the "SmackDown Six", before falling off a cliff without Paul E.
It doesn't take that much mental gymnastics to understand why Chyna won the belt by pinning Stratus. Val didn't want to put over Chyna 1v1 so they set up that stipulation, or ppl backstage didn't want her going over Val legit
Summerslam 2000, and the whole year in general, was pretty fucking lit. I always figured that E&C won the TLC matches as payback for being the heels. All 3 teams could have been huge faces but there needed to be a heel team to give the matches some fire, so that it wasn't just a friends-fest based on mutual respect (bleh). The Hardys and Dudleys got the fan love for being the faces, while E&C took the heat as heels. I guess the real explanation in this vid isn't too far off, the office were clearly digging E&C and wanted to keep them as the antagonists for as long as they could.
Oi Adam i know you read words written for you, but at 1:16 Chyna didn't make her SS PPV debut in 2000, she was at SS 99 when Jesse V was Referee, FFS i know more about WWF/E than the writer of this "Justin Henry" ever will, maybe you should make me a writer
"Never forget Chris Kreski," I really appreciate that! I'm his son! Thank you for the tribute Adam!
Are you really his son?
Is that true
That's pretty awesome
Thank you I appreciate that! Also yes I am his son
Nice!
Plumpy makes all lists better
*cough*
(You've earned my attention w/ that statement.) 🤔👍
Summerslam 2000 was awesome. Plus it gave us TLC.
17 years... I've wondered why Big Show wasn't on the Smackdown 2 game for 17 years, and this is how I find out... good to know
Plus WWF No Mercy for nintendo 64!!
Summerslam 2000: The best Summerslam ever
HeelJay13 both 2002 and 2013 were better
HeelJay13 SummerSlam 2000 overall was amazing
What about SummerSlam 2013
HeelJay13 so true. So very true.
The year 2000 was fire for the WWE. Their PPVS that year were amazing.

I had that TLC VHS tape and watched it religiously as a kid. I watched so much that the tape snapped
K-rain how did a vhs tape snap?
Matthew Prestia The film snapped
God created light and Plumpy made Whatculture. Thank you Plumpy.
I was at this SummerSlam! Bonus Fun Fact: WWE had people outside the stadium handing out literal mixtapes which included System of A Down, Crazytown, amongst other nu-metal "gems".

Ah yes, the SummerSlam that began my journey into professional wrestling. At age 11, going on for 21 straight years. Time flies.
Watching this after the ppv hits different 🤘🏼💯
I'd check out the Something To Wrestle podcast because according to Bruce Prichard, Kreski is given credit for a lot of highly regarded story lines even though he was a bit out of his element and didn't really do much. Tylor Wagner praise gerwitz cause he also gave us MiTB
Praise Gerwitz then. he's the reason why along with Chris Jericho gave us Money in the Bank.

I was at the Raw where Mick Foley announced that Edge and Christian would defend the titles in TLC match. "Table,Ladders, and Chairs. Oh my"
Always remember Earl Hebner pushing Angle's shoulder up when he'd forgotten to kick out.
2000 has to be the greatest SummerSlam ever. I don't like how Blumpy took pleasure in WCW's downfall
Blampied was on top of his game for this one. Very funny, well delivered, and insightful. Well done, Plumps.

This was my very first WWE ppv I saw live, I was 10 and it was amazing
I mean live on TV, I wish I was there
Ah, Summerslam 2000. I was lucky enough to be there for it with my brother. I still remember the entirety of the crowd giving a simultaneous "Hooooly shiiit!" as Shane fell off the rigging.
This was the only PPV I ever saw live. I flew from Tucson, AZ to Raleigh to see this. Was worth it. As Plumpy said, great PPV.
2000 was when I started watching wrestling and it's easy to see why I fell in love with it. It was was one of the greatest years in WWE history.
My favourite SummerSlam!
I just love how you keep showing scenes from Hell in a Cell while talking about safety.
This was the first (and only) PPV I ordered as a kid. What a hell of a show to have chosen.
I can say that I was there live for Summerslam 2000 in Raleigh and the Raw in Greensboro, NC. It was magical.
Plumpy the great
Why is R-Truth referred to as the worst human being alive?
Plumpy doesn't exactly make it a secret that he hates R-Truth with all of his being. There's a clip of him staring blankly into a camera with a serious expression in an arena while everyone around him goes "what's up?" "what's up!" "what's up?" "what's up!", and I've seen him use it like at least a half a dozen times.
would love to see that clip *ahem*
I wanna know why he hates him tho Like Wtf did truth do Hes funny as fuck too
He's racist
Syco316 "Oh my God! He hates someone who happens to be Black and he is white! He MUST be racist!" Fuck off, will you?
I haven't gotten any sleep all night waiting for this but I it's worth it
Plumpy! Thank you for finally compressing your voiceover!
@2:39 1-screenshot

That Tenis line was f*cking amazing
I remember the Big Show being sent down. During one of the earlier seasons of Tough Enough, he talked about being sent down and he said it was a wake-up call that if he did not put his ego in check immediately and get back in shape, his career was going to be over very soon.
I was there !!! I was 6 years old and had no idea I was witnessing history 😭
Fun fact, this SummerSlam happened when I was just 2 months old.
I have a driver's license and will be able to vote in less than a year.
Just gonna make me feel old like that?-
I was enjoying the end of my summer vacation, getting ready to start 4th grade when this happened. Now I'm going on 26.
syxodude91 Same as me mate
Fuck you, young'un. **Shakes fist**
Vensey Ness mind blown.
2:40 pause
Can't wait for the Stone Cold/Kurt Angle Summerslam vid... That moment when he flips off the kid that's telling him he sucks is priceless 😂
Man I wish I could go back and be there again!!! What a great show. Couldn't believe The Hardyz didn't win being from right down the road but, not hating, got an incredible match. Heck, they all were incredible.
Dang, how cool would it have been for the Hardy’s to win TLC 1. The crowd would have gone beyond crazy.
Truth spoken at 4:44 and I can't say it any better. I hate swerves that are done for the sake of swerving.
Holy shit now I know why Big Show isn't in Smackdown!
Judgement Day 2000 was the first wrestling show I attended. Any chance we could get a video on it? I maaaayyyyy even pay for it.
Video about something that happened 17 years ago was uploaded 17 hours ago
I know I have asked before, but am I the only one that used to watch WCW from 8-9 Raw from 9-11 and then watch the rebroadcast of WCW from 11-12,
Some Tuesdays were rough getting out of bed and going to school.
Talks about safety instructions. Shows pictures of Mankind vs Undertaker Hell in a Cell.
Nice vid Adam
5:18 did he call the big show the 20 year old giant?
I dont hear an eight in there but that would make more sense because he was 28 at the time
I knew Plumpy couldn't help but botch table spots but botching numbers is a new low
Yeah he said twenty eight
28. That's what I heard.
28 . unless you think he was in the NWO when he was 17
Horribly sad that the late Chris Kreski doesn't get the recognition he deserves, he oversaw easily the greatest top-to-bottom year of of the Attitude era and indeed televised wrestling.
I have so many wwf vhs movies back in the day, , they were the best
Uhh.. This Summerslam is gonna is best summerslam our wwe history
Chris Jericho yes especially when my boy Corbin cashes in

I was there live ugh amazing show... My 7 year old self didn't realize how amazing it was
It's like in every pay per view Kurt angle gets injured or wrestles injured. What up with that?
5:05 big e and takey 😂😂😂😁
This was the first PPV I ever attended. I was in the cheap seats and I swear Shane O'Mac was eye level with where we were sitting. I thought he died taking that bump off the tron 😂😂but then again I was only 11 at the time. Excellent show!!!
I've learned a lot of interesting things that I otherwise wouldn't have been bothered to look up from watching these lists. I can't wait for the "10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series ____ Facts" lists. ;)
I was there! The only WWF PPV I ever attended, and it was pretty good.
what song are you guys playing at the very end? cool tune
"Sometimes, predictable can be a good thing." - Smart Adam.
I had that TLC VHS and this ppv I owned on DVD..good days 😭
Chris Kreski, wrestlings most unsung hero.

The Rock vs Triple H vs Kurt Angle is one of the best triple threats of all time
I have that tlc video! I remember being disappointed it didn't actually include the first tlc match. Still good tho
As this was my very first PPV, hearing Plumpy say "Fan Fucking Tastic" nearly made me shed a tear.
I was there at this show.. It was great, but probably the best show I'll ever attend. Not looking like they will come close any time soon.
PS- Time to shelf Jack the Jobber.
My first PPV as a WWE fan, this was. Fun for little 10 year-old me...
It's hilarious that WWF instantly improved post Russo-Ferrara and would continue to get better in 2001. Then it sucked a bit later in 2001 with the Invasion angle. ada- excuse me, plumpy's voice just makes jizzum flow and flow out of me
SummerSlam 2000 overall was amazing many classic matches and moments. Kurt Angle was on the rise shame things didnt work out 4 him
My first ever and favourite PPV of all time
Top 10 Brock Lesnar Nicknames by Plumpy!
It doesn't take that much mental gymnastics to understand why Chyna won the belt by pinning Stratus. Val didn't want to put over Chyna 1v1 so they set up that stipulation, or ppl backstage didn't want her going over Val legit
My favourite of all the summer slams
Summerslam 2000, and the whole year in general, was pretty fucking lit.

That bigshow and Kane sarcasm though
R Truth underrated he was never used right in the WWE look at his TNA days.
Eva Marie for Hall of fame 2017!
And Aldo Montoya
By far the greatest SS ever. That TLC match is Top Five greatest ever.
Almost sounds like he's saying those 15 guys made their WWE debut at summerslam. Confused the heck out of me for a second there.
My birth year was 🔥🔥💯💯
Can someone please get us the background song for the Pro Wrestling World Cup ad at the end? Pleeeease?
The 1st TLC match on this ppv was the first match I ever watched
we should have Gillberg and Ellsworth team up at summer slam
I never thought that the final words in a WhatCulture video would be, "Because fucking tennis."
KING ROSS FEARS PLUMPY
Chyna was underrated
Ahhh the first ever TLC match ,good old days
We need some WCW & ECW lists
It's crazy that when Raw was hot back in the day it was getting bump by tennis and dog shows.
Song name in the end please?
last time i was this early vinnie mac hadn't bought whatculture
Love Summerslam 2000
Yo, what happened to the podcasts..?
Safin won the US Open that year. I wonder who played during that Monday night raw
Do one of these on the 1996 war games
Oi Adam i know you read words written for you, but at 1:16 Chyna didn't make her SS PPV debut in 2000, she was at SS 99 when Jesse V was Referee, FFS i know more about WWF/E than the writer of this "Justin Henry" ever will, maybe you should make me a writer
DM87 I know right Jericho didn't make his debut either he was in over a year by than
