Shame what happened to Hassan. Got to meet him at WrestleCon at WM 32 Weekend and he was really cool about everything. I asked if the World Title win was legit and he said yeah but things happen in life and you got to do the best with the cards you get. He seems really happy with life now so can't be upset with what happened to him.
I loved that Michaels/Hogan match. I thought at first "this is over the top... It's funny" but learning about the back story and seeing hogans reactions makes it even more hilarious.
I actually attended this event for my 16th birthday. I still had no idea about backstage stuff in wrestling yet, but I absolutely LOVED HBK's selling in the match. It was a really good show, and I really loved every minute of it.
Shawn may have acted unprofessional in that match. But, I can't say I blame him given how two-faced Hogan was in the whole situation. I mean really: Shawn is being unprofessional by doing an amazing job as the heel in the feud to get the match over?!
The noisiest Summerslam, my bro brought this one, over the moon that Hogan was headlining a Summerslam on his b'day no less, being the full red & yellow blooded Hulkamaniac that he is, he literally woke the house up with his excitement/shouting.
Michaels *claims* in his book and DVD "Heartbreak and Triumph" that he was asked by Hogan to "be like you were in '98." Shawn says he didn't want to because he'd worked very hard to establish a better reputation in his post-2002 career, but went along with it and decided he'd go all out if they were going to ask him to go there at all. Whether that's HBK embellishing or not, we can't really know, I guess.
@WhatCulture 1 little known fact about SummerSlam 05, was it was the first time the split audience ever happened. I was there, you can see Cena and Jericho taken back by how half the audience was chanting let's go Cena and the other half was chanting let's go Jericho.
Jonathan McCormick Gotta love they were taken down. Honestly, the hate for Cena made that match but by Survivor Series, that year, it was in full force and by New Years Revolution, it was insane!
Yes, it was the Jericho and Angle feuds that year that got many fans to turn on Cena This video is the first I've heard that it was Jericho's idea to put Cena over before he went on hiatus though, I don't doubt Jericho would do that
That promo work Shawn Michaels did at the Montreal Raw is the stuff of legend. As for Hogan nixing the final 2 matches he and Michaels were supposed to have and being 2-faced about the promos, of course Hogan did that. If he didn't do that, he wouldn't be Hulk Hogan, see?
The end was kinda rushed. It's almost like Plumpy had something else to ad, but the video editor just cut that last part out and just cut straight to advertising Ospreay vs. Mysterio.
I remember liking Hassan a lot. He was a bit green, but his character was really layered and could have definitely worked as a top heel. It's a shame that WWE didn't have the balls to tell UPN to stick it.
"Rey and Eddie did the best they could to work around the farcical angle" You mean, the angle they pitched to WWE creative, as Rey has stated multiple times? That one?
There was a video on UA-cam that I don't think is on anymore but it was a collection of Michaels overselling set to the Benny Hill music, and was one of the funniest I had seen in awhile. I can't watch that match now without hearing that song in my head.
He said it was his penultimate ppv match, which means it was his last SummerSlam, assuming his next, and last, ppv match wasn't at the next year's SummerSlam.
I remember ordering it just because I wanted to see Matt and Edge kill each other. I was hardcore fan during the Attitude Era to a casual fan to not watching the product altogether. I would still keep up with what was going on in the wrestling world with online dirt sheets. When I heard a match was going to happen between Matt and Edge after all the backstage drama they were going through, I knew I had to watch it! I didn't even know the infamous Michaels/Hogan match was the main event for the last PPV I ever paid for until now.
I really like how they shove wcpw advertising right down your throat right in the very next second that the video is over no and that's our list no transition just bam..wcpw advertising right in your face when the video ends
There is an error in the video. It says on screen that there was 600,000 buys for Summerslam but Plumpy says that it was 650,000 and down 50,000 form 1998 of 700,000
"Michaels tries to annoy Hogan as much as possible" Can't you replace "Hogan" in that sentence with almost anyone Michaels has ever worked with and still be pretty accurate?
Felt bad WWE had to kill the Muhammad Hassan character, it was entertaining and a pure heat magnet... unfortunately real life terrorism is the reason why we can't have nice things.
Hogan deserved to be treated like he was by HBK. Shawn was the better wrestler, better on the mic, and had more than 3 moves and a sequence for those moves. Hogan bitched his way to a win and Shawn made him pay for it. Anyone else who did what Hogan did would've been trashed.
If your insinuating that hogan was a bad wrestler, your just an ill researched moron. Go watch any of hogans work outside of america, like his classics with the great muta or antonio inoki. He was decent in the west, but hes one of the greatest in japan.
I want WWE to recreate the Goldberg/Bret Hart promo, where he spears Hart and knocks himself out due to Bret wearing a metal plate around his stomach. They could do it with Roman vs Braun and make it look better. I miss the 90s
The fact that Muhammad Hassan got nixed because of UPN is bullshit. The guy was a great heel and everything was working well. I know shit got real that day, but still. They could've easily told WWE to change up the content a little bit, but to demand that Hassan be removed from Smackdown completely is utter bullshit.
That Muhammad Hassan was so stupid. Why did they still air it?! It wasn't even live. They could've edited it out. But they didn't and WWE really screwed up that guy's wrestling career.
I had heard that Hogan originally wanted to do an angle of Shawn having an affair with Brooke Hogan (Basically what they did the following years with Orton) but Shawn said no.
WWE censorship story. I was in the front row of the upper balcony that night (roughly by hogans head at 0:06) and my friends and I made a (IMO hilariously) dry-humored 8 foot long banner that read "We do not like John Cena very much." We hung it over the rail throughout the show, not sure if it's ever visible on the tape. But shortly before cenas match security came up to the balcony, asked us what it said AND RIPPED IT UP.
Difference is that Michaels eventually grew up and jobbed when it was necessary. Hogan on the other hand kept up his non-jobbing ways for a good amount of his feuds way after his prime.
"Who's your daddy Montreal"-HBK
THE FACE THAT RUNS THE PLACE amazing heel stuff and the crowd chanting you screwed bret and him saying yeah i screwed him ...
Then the fake out with Bret Hart's entrance. I really thought he was going to come out and was pissed when he didn't. Good times man.
one of the greatest promos
nobody on the current roster would be able to cut a promo like him
hbk was right. to piss off hogan. because hogan sucks and is selfish
roman reigns did it on the first raw after mania
That Shawn "Who's your daddy Montreal?" Promo is the best heel promo and nuclear heat I've ever seen my entire life.
Same here. I didn't think Shawn was going to get out of Montreal alive.
Wow hogan was a real egomaniac
Jordan Cecil only just learning that? xD
Jordan Cecil You gotta watch Warrior's rant video on Hogan.
I mean Warrior was just as bad if not worse
Phil Michaels
warrior himself was a complete asshole
what do you mean "was"?
Shame what happened to Hassan. Got to meet him at WrestleCon at WM 32 Weekend and he was really cool about everything. I asked if the World Title win was legit and he said yeah but things happen in life and you got to do the best with the cards you get. He seems really happy with life now so can't be upset with what happened to him.
He was probably pissed for a while tho
I loved that Michaels/Hogan match. I thought at first "this is over the top... It's funny" but learning about the back story and seeing hogans reactions makes it even more hilarious.
Michaels vs. Hogan was funny af lmao... I don't give a shit about how unprofessional it was... It did what it was supposed to... Entertain me...
That's a strange looking 650,000.
I actually attended this event for my 16th birthday. I still had no idea about backstage stuff in wrestling yet, but I absolutely LOVED HBK's selling in the match. It was a really good show, and I really loved every minute of it.
Shawn Michaels overselling is how wrestlers should sell it was AMAZING
Shawn may have acted unprofessional in that match. But, I can't say I blame him given how two-faced Hogan was in the whole situation. I mean really: Shawn is being unprofessional by doing an amazing job as the heel in the feud to get the match over?!
I would have loved to be around if they fought in 95-97
Watching Jinder's face melt. I never laughed so audibly hard! XD
The noisiest Summerslam, my bro brought this one, over the moon that Hogan was headlining a Summerslam on his b'day no less, being the full red & yellow blooded Hulkamaniac that he is, he literally woke the house up with his excitement/shouting.
it was hilaruous when michaels said "hogan beat me with his cat like prowess" making fun of his finishers too 😂
Michaels *claims* in his book and DVD "Heartbreak and Triumph" that he was asked by Hogan to "be like you were in '98." Shawn says he didn't want to because he'd worked very hard to establish a better reputation in his post-2002 career, but went along with it and decided he'd go all out if they were going to ask him to go there at all.
Didn't the "Cena Sucks" chants first start at this Summerslam??
wrestlingbuff87 yeah, but Cena did'nt receive the boo's yet
wrestlingbuff87 yeah my friends and I had an anti cena banner and everything. Taken from us by security
Jonathan McCormick Gotta love they were taken down. Honestly, the hate for Cena made that match but by Survivor Series, that year, it was in full force and by New Years Revolution, it was insane!
Yes, it was the Jericho and Angle feuds that year that got many fans to turn on Cena
This video is the first I've heard that it was Jericho's idea to put Cena over before he went on hiatus though, I don't doubt Jericho would do that
No it started later in the year but started to cheer again when he feuded with Edge but started to boo like we know when feuding with Triple H
It was the first WWE PPV I bought on DVD and it's still one of my favorite PPVs ever.
Hogan: "WATCHA GONNA DO WHEN HULK HOGAN REFUSES TO LAY DOWN FOR YOU?!"
HBK: *laughs in over-selling*
Still jobbed
That promo work Shawn Michaels did at the Montreal Raw is the stuff of legend. As for Hogan nixing the final 2 matches he and Michaels were supposed to have and being 2-faced about the promos, of course Hogan did that. If he didn't do that, he wouldn't be Hulk Hogan, see?
That Hulk v HBK match is funny as fuck to watch when you know Michaels is only doing it all to piss off Hogan.
foxhunter29 but it was a message how bad hogan is
All it did was make Michaels look bad. The fans come first, always.
Easily one of my favorite SummerSlams of all time right there with 02
2:49 like Melina vs. Alicia Fox as Cameron's favourite match
Ryan Sanderson I still can't believe she said that, and STILL made it to the main roster.
Steve Austin:...........................who?
JyStar let the alone the only one on that season that made it to the main roster
You've gotta love Shawn Micheals 😂!!
The story HBK always tells is that Hogan told him he wanted the HBK from 1996-98..Shawn gave it to him...and Hogan didn't like it.
The ONLY thing worse than a WWE PPV doing those kind of numbers is Hulk Hogan knowing it.
The end was kinda rushed. It's almost like Plumpy had something else to ad, but the video editor just cut that last part out and just cut straight to advertising Ospreay vs. Mysterio.
Did Adam get cut off at the end?
Yes. Next time he's going to bring a megaphone with him
HBK: Who's your daddy, Montreal?
Eddie: *I'm* your papi!
I remember liking Hassan a lot. He was a bit green, but his character was really layered and could have definitely worked as a top heel. It's a shame that WWE didn't have the balls to tell UPN to stick it.
"Rey and Eddie did the best they could to work around the farcical angle"
You mean, the angle they pitched to WWE creative, as Rey has stated multiple times? That one?
"Summerslam pulled in 650,000 buys." *graphic on screen says 600,000*
Ahhh yes the ppv that got me into wrestling. Probably my all time favorite ppv.
I can remember laughing my ass off from Michael's over selling!
@3:25 "Previously on Jericho"...
I'm going to use that as a comment in every video of Jericho in AEW
How wwe should have booked once in a lifetime
easy. make it ONE MATCH
I'm still salty about what happened to Hassan; he was shaping up to be the greatest heel in WWE, in my opinion.
yeah, but the company ruined what made him great, instead of making him a dick with an actual reason for being a dick, they made him an extremist
Wow, Adam. Great moves. Keep it up. Proud of you.
I enjoyed SummerSlam 2005.... mainly that ladder match between Eddie and Rey.
That picture of Vince with a stack of money has to be the most used image on this channel.
Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Michaels main eventing the show was huge as it was a dream match which nobody ever thought would happen
These videos end really abruptly, as soon as Adam says the last word it immediately cuts to a WCPW promo
Adam: which makes it even more impressiv... WORLD CUP AUGUST 23,24,26
There was a video on UA-cam that I don't think is on anymore but it was a collection of Michaels overselling set to the Benny Hill music, and was one of the funniest I had seen in awhile. I can't watch that match now without hearing that song in my head.
WHERE THE FUCK WAS VICKIE? Excellent moment :D
Thia was the last SummerSlam to feature Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit matches.
It's amazing how many mid-2000 PPVs had no IC Title defences.
That picture of Vince holding the money really goes a long way
Weird to see tht little child is now the best heel in wwe
John Cena Vs Hulk Hogan would've a great match much like Rock Vs Hogan sadly it's a dream match that never happened and most probably never will....
THE FACE THAT RUNS THE PLACE
Dude did you just compared clown Cena to the great one don't be sarcastic...
THE FACE THAT RUNS THE PLACE na
Sarcastic Mr. Fox the great one OK don't act like he's Shawn or rick
Dead Gaming Society
Great one =Rock
Sarcastic Savage Mr. Fox I know that he's not Shawn or rick
52 is middle aged?!??!
Below 56 is.
if everyone lives to 100, then yeah
But people can live to 85, can't they.
For a wrestler... usually, yes.
45 is middle aged
michaels should have won
Ospreay vs Mysterio?? God damn that sounds fun!
Did you forgot to mention that it was the last summerslam for edie gurrero 😢 R.I.P
Naif Bani Ali He did mention that
Naif Bani Ali Penultimate = last
Ryan Keith means second last actually
He said it was his penultimate ppv match, which means it was his last SummerSlam, assuming his next, and last, ppv match wasn't at the next year's SummerSlam.
650k buys but the text at the end says 600k....
Uh Guys, 650,000 isn't written as 600,000....
I want to give you a high zero for pointing that out.
This was the first ppv event I attended
HBK stole the show like no other! :D
If i'm ever sad, I go back and watch the HBK vs Hogan match. It's absolutely hilarious, HBK is the man
Nice
I remember ordering it just because I wanted to see Matt and Edge kill each other. I was hardcore fan during the Attitude Era to a casual fan to not watching the product altogether. Lol, was the editor using Scott Steiner mathematics? xD
this was my favorite summerslam event
Does anyone miss Chris Jericho back in 2005?
The start of John Cena beeing booed by the majority of the crowd as the company's top babyface. 😂
Simon is getting better and better with this pace he'll surpass adam in entertaining
Shawn's heel run should have lasted longer, he still had it in that regard as well.
surprised that weird 25 second us title match between benoit and orlando jordan wasn;t on the list considering it was the shortest match on the card
And now Dominik is going to compete in his first ever wrestling match at Summerslam, crazy!
I really like how they shove wcpw advertising right down your throat right in the very next second that the video is over no and that's our list no transition just bam..wcpw advertising right in your face when the video ends
Better than you nobody cares
I went to this Summerslam
There is an error in the video. It says on screen that there was 600,000 buys for Summerslam but Plumpy says that it was 650,000 and down 50,000 form 1998 of 700,000
"Michaels tries to annoy Hogan as much as possible"
Can't you replace "Hogan" in that sentence with almost anyone Michaels has ever worked with and still be pretty accurate?
LOVE THESE VIDS KEEP IT UP GUYS
Early without the notification squad. What now!
i miss Adam ;'(
Felt bad WWE had to kill the Muhammad Hassan character, it was entertaining and a pure heat magnet... unfortunately real life terrorism is the reason why we can't have nice things.

Gary Maxion
Ugh...Hogan was a far bigger draw than HBK obviously it was going to be on his terms
He's not one of the greatest in Japan. He was BIG there, but not great.
He just did other moves there and sold a little.
It wasn't even Hogan's call, he didn't have creative control here. Just as it was with Mania 9, it was McMahon who said, Hogan goes over.
@@BigBadJerryRogers He nixed the other 2 matches. That's the point.
I want WWE to recreate the Goldberg/Bret Hart promo, where he spears Hart and knocks himself out due to Bret wearing a metal plate around his stomach. They could do it with Roman vs Braun and make it look better.
I miss the 90s
I don't understand why WC constantly go on about the ladder match
It was Eddie's idea, blame him.
Why would Eddie want Vickie to run in late? And they go on about it because "Goddammit! Where the fuck was Vickie!" is very audible.
I assume they mean 'why does WC go on about the IDEA BEHIND the ladder match.'
The answer- it is dumb as hell.
A little late for that...
What Alec said.
WC blames WWE for the ladder match like WWE concocted it when Eddie did.
JC4R it's an absurd idea but I like it honestly
The fact that Muhammad Hassan got nixed because of UPN is bullshit. The guy was a great heel and everything was working well. I know shit got real that day, but still. They could've easily told WWE to change up the content a little bit, but to demand that Hassan be removed from Smackdown completely is utter bullshit.
it shows you what kind of network UPN is
Ugh! The Eddie vs Rey match was awesome! Stop criticizing it!
Mysterio vs Guerrero, Batista vs JBL. Good stuff, miss those days.
the match was good, the tory behind it was bad and the botch was bad, stop defending it, they stated that the match was good
My favorite wrestling game of all time made a appearance. Day of Reckoning 2 at 3:33
That Muhammad Hassan was so stupid. Why did they still air it?! It wasn't even live. They could've edited it out. But they didn't and WWE really screwed up that guy's wrestling career.
it was more UPN who was broadcasting Smackdown at the time
I had heard that Hogan originally wanted to do an angle of Shawn having an affair with Brooke Hogan (Basically what they did the following years with Orton) but Shawn said no.
WWE censorship story. We hung it over the rail throughout the show, not sure if it's ever visible on the tape. But shortly before cenas match security came up to the balcony, asked us what it said AND RIPPED IT UP.
Summerslam took place in Washington DC, not in the Empire State aka NY
Hogan and Micheals both were such egomaniacs who never wanted to do the JOB...
Early michaels no didnt like to job... Second run michaels generally jobbed a lot.
CoNoR4414 it was "supposed to be" a once in a lifetime match
Brilliant to the smarks who don't mind unprofessional sabotaging of matches;)
Braun 3:16 says I AM NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!
Shawn was basically a jobber in His second run lmfao
Difference is that Michaels eventually grew up and jobbed when it was necessary. Hogan on the other hand kept up his non-jobbing ways for a good amount of his feuds way after his prime.
Nice vid adam
My first live WWE event
Mohammed hassan is a fucking legend. Jinder mahal is the pg indian version of him.
Heel Michaels' promo is Heel 101.
hey can u do 10 fascinating facts for every royal rumble?
How about acknowledging Hogan's undefeated streak at Summerslam in the next video.
Jeff Bayard I think you're forgetting Over the limit 2010
Jericho sure as Hell isn't selfless anymore.
The Thumbnail looks like hulk Hogan should be in a 50's horror movie.
I like the intro music
This IS a great summerslam u smarks
This summerslam was pretty good
I don't know what is worse. Hassan beating Batista or Mahal beating Orton
The last time I was this early, WWE thought a custody battle was a good idea.
3:28 Day of Reckoning 2!
