    So why would you ever need a 7 litre V8, if 1.3 litres, a fan and some triangles can do the same job?

    • @kop4321
      @kop4321 10 років тому +44

      Its more reliable (relatively), less turbo lag and easier to set up.

    • @TheWierdFish
      @TheWierdFish 10 років тому +53

      Piston engines are naturally less reliable. More durable, yes, but this is a drag car, it's not doing 1000 mile road trips, is it? Less lag... there's no lag worth mentioning in a modern setup, and the fraction of a second it takes to come on is probably a benefit. Gives the tyres time to breathe between shifts. Easier to set up? Depends how you look at it. Technically a crossplane V8 is impossible to 'set up' due to its natural incapability of firing in an even manner across the banks. The only thing I can think of is that at this moment in time, it's cheaper, slightly. But then, since when did anything that isn't boring and awful come cheap?

    • @kop4321
      @kop4321 10 років тому +15

      Foxtrot Oscar
      Rx-7's love blowing engines, much less engines in cars that run 7's. I meant they're easier to set up and build because more people know how to do it and there is a bigger market for parts for it.

    • @TheWierdFish
      @TheWierdFish 10 років тому +75

      RX7s never blow up engines. Owners who do not give them the level of care they need to keep them in tip top condition blow up the engines. If you're good, it's theoretically impossible to blow up an engine. Theoretically...
      Sure, you could go down the V8 route and everything is there for you, you just throw some cash around and you've got an 800hp engine, no problem.... but where's the fun in that. A 7 litre, 800hp engine is not impressive at all. A 300hp 1.3 is very impressive though, and an 800hp 1.3... now THAT is entertainment, and interesting to build! And once you DO know how to do it, it's a LOT easier, as the whole engine is just two triangles and a bent shaft.

      @T1O1O1X1T1O1X1I1C1 9 років тому +3

      Joseph Victors I guess that's why this 7 second drag car can't be registered to drive on public roads while Drag Week has low 6 second drag cars running V8's that drive over 1000 miles on public roads in a week. Besides, displacement can handle more torque than boost could ever hope to.

    Anyone who is questioning the rotary engine should do a search on the history of the rotary engine in the LeMans. If memory serves me, when Mazda introduced the rotary in they're Lemans vehicle it ended up in they're being banned because they were thought to have an unfair advantage. The were using a 4 rotor engine which was literally created from 2 13b engines and the issue was that the 4 rotor engine was able to create the same power as the other cars with half the weight which ended up giving Mazda a great advantage and because of that it was banned. While it has it's faults, the Wankel Rotary is a great engine.

      Idemitsu pre-mix oil in your FUEL (essentially it's a 2-stroke motor) is the oil way to go! Castrol "motor" oil is great, but if you are not running the oil metering pump (OMP) you always switch to a full synthetic in the motor to better protect the apex seals and create a better overall combustion seal of protection as it does not burn! It is proven that even Mobil 1 15w-50 & Idemitsu 20w-50 full-synthetics in the rotary motor provide the best wear and sealing characteristics. I run Castrol in everything else I own except my 457hp 13B. Castrol has always made a great product. Mobil 1 15w-50 full synthetic also has added ZDDP (zinc) which is a huge help. It is listed in red on the back of the 5qt jug available at Walmart for a whole $28. Never run synthetic if you are running the stock oil metering pump or you are going to ruin your motor as synthetic oil does NOT burn. Conventional oil will burn while lubricating the seals therefore not gum up inside your housings...

    can somebody tell me what are those holes on the side of the car and what they do?? imma newbie at this..

    • @MrWilmaDickfitt
      @MrWilmaDickfitt 10 років тому +18

      That's the exhaust pipe. They pipe it straight from the manifold to the side of the car for maximum airflow. That turbo is putting so much air into the motor that it wouldn't make max power if it couldn't get rid of it all.

    No replacement for displacement MY ASS!

    • @fearmeyo
      @fearmeyo 10 років тому

      I don't think you fully understand that concept. There is still no replacement for displacement. A turbo does not get included in the displacement size of the engine.

    • @Infamyo
      @Infamyo 10 років тому +4

      I don't think you understand the saying fully. Obviously the turbo isn't included as displacement, that makes no sense. The turbo is the replacement for displacement, people who use that saying believe that big V8's rule and putting a turbo on a small engine makes no difference. This video proves that wrong.

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro 10 років тому

      People use that saying because it's true. Example: a 3L engine can make more power than a 1.3L engine everything else being equal. A supercharger of any kind is only a replacement for displacement to a point (and usually when the other engine doesn't have a supercharger, funny enough).
      Ultimately though, there is no replacement for displacement. I don't care how much boost and power you can make with a supercharged engine, you can always build a NA engine big enough to have more power.

    • @Infamyo
      @Infamyo 10 років тому

      Bullshit! Please show me an engine that is N/A that can produce over 1500-2000 hp

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro 10 років тому

      While I'm not sure what "1500-2000hp" has to do with anything, seems like you brought that up for no reason but Sonny's "EXTREME PRO STOCK 892 CU. IN." comes to mind. It makes 2035HP at 8100rpm and 1415 lb/ft of torque at 6500rpm NA. I'm sure you can find other examples by other makers of NA engines over at, about, or over 2000HP. Sonny even make a truly monstrous 1000ci, 16.39 liter engine which they say is over 2150HP though $/HP I'm not sure it's as good a buy as others relativity speaking (or, of course, what you could build on your own if you have the skill, time, and money. We are talking engines that cost as much as a decent new Corvette.)
      So, as I said, ultimately there is no replacement for displacement when you can simply build a bigger engine. And we haven't even touched colossal stanonary or marine engines, some of those you can literally fit a sbc inside ONE cylinder!

    Just gets to a point where its overly ridiculous. Track racings just about seeing how fast a car can go in a straight line... Which is cool, but when you take a car with leather seats and luxury then strip it down to its bare bolts and put a 1000 hp in it... Its not really as flattering anymore. Idk just something about it makes it not even seem like its a car anymore

      david leatherhof ok it's a wankle it's a rotary...tell me than how the hell a 1.3 engine rotary wankle whatever can be fast as hell like that.. magic? funkn MAZDA!
      now i have ls3 vette for example if my ls3 was 1.3.. what is that a one piston maybe 2?..my question is.. with the same turbo can i get the 7s ?
      someone explain for me please how a small engine like that can be that fast i know and i believe the chevy engine not slow with some work with ls3 i beat any porsche gt2 & turbo S since day 1 with a big smile in my face always
      ...just i'm wondering if i was wasting my time with big ci engines for nothing if i can be that fast with rotary 1.3 engine?

    • @davidleatherhof2633
      @davidleatherhof2633 9 років тому +2

      First off it doesn't use Pistons
      Second it doesn't go back and forth like the piston it just spins in one direction
      If your really interested there plenty of videos on UA-cam that can help you grasp just how amazing this engine is.
      If not I can write a hole fuckin essay about that engine if you really want
