  • He may only be 20, but his chances of winning the Olympic 1500 Meter gold medal, are extremely high.
Since 2016, we've watched this runner grow from a promising young prodigy to a worldwide phenomenon, and with such intense and steady improvements for the previous few years, his chances of grabbing an Olympic Gold are very realistic.

Weekly mileage has been 181.5 km, as he just stated on a norwegian podcast. he laughed of all the youtubers having it too low :) Another quick fact he stated: He has never in his life run more than 20 km in one run, as is his normal longrun each sunday. He also humeously tells us that he very very rarely stop his watch at e.g 10.01 on a 10k easyrun. almost always stopping at 10.00 or else he feels he must subract the 0.1 on the next workout XD Such precision!

  • @LilSimen

His saturday workout isn't 2x(20x200m) uphill, but 2x(10x200). In case anyone wants to implement it in their workout routine. Thanks for increasingly quality content, sir TRP :) Also, the incline usually is around 4-6%, not too steep. This way you get more speed than very steep hills, but still makes the running less heavy on the legs than flat running.

I think Tim C is gonna get the gold over Jakob, but as long as he's healthy, I think Jakob has well over a 90% chance at medalling.
I only choose Tim C over him because he showed that he was in about 3:26 shape at Monaco, and if it had been better paced, I think he would've been #2 all time, possibly beating the WR.
Jakob has shown that he's consistently improving though, so there's a good chance that next year he'll be in 3:27 or 3:26 shape. It's so exciting to see 2 of the fastest 1500m runners of all time at their peaks, going towards an Olympic final.
One more prediction: the Olympic 1500m will be fast, possibly Olympic Record fast, due to Tim C always going out hard. I think he'll go out fast to try to remove the chance of anyone not in 3:28 shape or faster of getting first. We saw in the 2019 champs that he can completely solo a 3:28, so I don't doubt that he can do it again. I'd bet he'll be in even better shape next year too.

4:17 threshold pace is more casually defined as your average pace on an all-out 1-hour run. As such, he would be going pretty much all out running a half marathon in under an hour. Threshold pace rises the longer you run, so if Bill's threshold pace is 8min/mile and he runs 45 minutes, at the end of the 45 minutes it will be a fair bit higher than 8min/mile.

    • @pal_lokomotivet2679

There is a interview with Jakob in the Norwegian podcast "I det lange løp" released last Friday. He comments that the mileage he usually runs per week is exactly 181,5 km, not 160 as described here. He also comments that he think it's funny that other people think they know his weekly mileage, and that they usually guess too little. He also says that he is very strict with his plan and that he never runs one meter extra, example given if he has a 10 km on his plan, he stops exactly on 10,00 km and walks the rest. That is why he says it is usually 181,5 km per week. No more , no less. 👍

He is a very young man that will likely have another big improvement. Timothy Cheruiyot is a great runner but at 25 may not improve as much as Jakob. Two great runners it will be interesting to see if they could both break the world record in the Olympics. They should both go out in a strong pace to prevent the rest of the field out kicking them in a slow tactical race.

According to plan is his stronghold and that plan is spot on. Wait and notice how he notice and waits in a very fast pace and suddenly shocks with 250 to go. Absolute poetry in motion and theory.

Cheriyout is just to strong, and there is nothing pointing against him. Jakobs chances of medal will depend if he choses to run both the 1500 and the 5000 or just the 1500. In Doha you could easily see that he spent to much energy in the 5000 prelims and finals and in the 1500 heats and prelims and had nothing in the tank for the final. So I would say no medal for Jakob if he runs both, and silver if he runs just the 1500. If you ask me his best chances for a gold is actualy in the 3000m SC. He allready has ran the 2000m SC in junior level so his technique should be just fine.
    Edit: grammar

This is a really good point, I think he should just do the 1500m in the Olympics and go for silver, there's a slim chance it will cost him a medal if he just chooses the 1500m, but its definitely worth the risk I like your point that he probably has the most talent in the 3000m steeplechase. He showed potential before but he never truly set forth on that event. I predict in 2-3 years, his performances will get a little bit weaker in the 1500m and 5000, and instead of retiring he will transition to the 3k steeple-like Evan jager.

Actually, Jakob does most of his training with lactate levels below 1.7, averaging maybe 1 workout per week above this number. This was explained by Gjert in a podcast where he basically said that the speeds which Jakob run at when he has lactate above 1.7 are so high that it's too big of a strain on his muscles to do consistently. Basically, he is so fast that he needs to run with very low lactate levels to limit speed and strain.

Cheruyot would have to be favourite. But the others, including JI, will learn not to let him create such a break. Cheruyot has both great endurance and speed 3 secs faster in 800 m than JI is significant. Tactics says the four fastest time athletes , 3:28 or better, should go out fast sustainable pace, with small kick a winner. JI for a place. But big races often surprise. Centrowitz Olympic gold was a crazy slow pace for 1000m, crazy for all but the few sprinters.

I love Jakob and i felt so bad for him in 2019 after the world champ races, but what changed my mind and filled me with confidence for Tokyo was the 2000m time and 3,000m times in 2020 which were some of the best ever, then in 2021 when he destroyed everyone including Joshua Cheptegei in that 12:48 5 k race, That blew me away as I was totally not expecting that. After that race and his striking improvement I knew he would win gold and I screamed at the TV, and yelled and laughed and was so happy that day and I did the same just a few weeks ago when he returned to the world champs and won the 5k , not only won but how easy it looked for him atoning for 2019 when he crashed to the track. Jakob is just the most exciting personality in all sports for me too watch 😊😊

He’s very strong, but for me he lacks a good finishing 100m. Thus I don’t see him winning yet. But I’m curious to see if he can change that and be fast enough to win

True, but as I said in my reply above, he could run the kick out of his faster rivals the way Steve Cram used to do. Cram didn't have great closing speed, either, but he trained to run a hard overall pace and then really go with 500 meters left. His rivals simply couldn't respond, and when they did, Cram had run the kick out of them.

I don’t think Centrowitz has been the same runner since battling pericarditis (2017?). I’m betting that the winner will take it out fast to avoid any 2016- like repeat, however. Going with Cheruiyot as my pick.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a very talented young athlete, and an extremely hard worker, and dedicated to his training. But I highly doubt he can beat the African competition, on the highest level competitions, like the Olympic games. Of course Timothy Cheriyot is a league of his own, but not only him.
The assumption behind this Gold Medal prediction is that Jakob can keep on improving his performance, that was already quite impressive before he was 20 years old, and based on the fact that most athletes peak much later than the age Jakob is now. The problem with this assumption is that BECAUSE Jakob's training was so good until now, he may have reached his peak long before most athletes do. I believe that Yakob is currently near his peak, and that we will see him platou in his early twenties. For these reasons I also believe that Jakob is no threat to the WR, and he won't even come anywhere close. I will honestly be surprised if he EVER runs below 3:28, let alone 3:26. Hicham El Guerrouj with his 3:26:00 will most likely in my opinion stay in the record books for many more years. It is almost untouchable. The quality of this time, is hard to describe.
Same goes for the 5000m, with all the massive African talent that is going on there, if Jakob chooses to compete at 5000m also.
I will be very happy and excited, if I end up being wrong, and Jakob will be a serious contender for Olympic Gold, in these events. But I highly doubt that will happen.
