"Why is this level right after Green Hill Zone? It's too much harder and slower. Totally should've swapped placed with Star Light." It could've been worse. Prototype versions, according to level select, most likely had LABYRINTH zone as the second zone. And hey, it's nice to have Star Light as a breather before Scrap Brain.
Marble Zone is one of the most important sonic levels though. Just like how Green Hill trains you to go fast and shows you the ropes and basics, Marble zone teaches you to slow down and be patient. Its an important step heading forward. Especially since Labyrinth is the 4th zone, which to first timers can be a bitch but once you know the ropes its easy af. Its just slow af. Worse than Marble in terms of pacing lol. But its not the hardest in terms of gameplay. Imo Scrap Brain is the hardest zone in terms of getting hit and losing rings. The problem with labyrinth is drowning and the boss (patience is key to that). Marble is VERY easy once you learn to not be fast all of the time.
The zones are in lighting order Green Hill zone is day, marble zone is a litte darker, spring yard zone is after noon, labryinth well i guess is slightly darker... , star light is night, and scrap brain is starting the next day
+ThatPaleKid88 i absolutely adored marble zone. it's the reason i played a sonic game. i kid you not. i find every level besides marble zone and labyrinth zone to be a heap of speed and randomness with no consistency at all. but marble and labyrinth make you slow down and think for a moment. if i was ever in charge of designing my very own platformer, i would literally dedicate a level to this zone :) but i have not played starlight or scrap brain yet, so i guess i cant place the title of "favorite" yet. i feel like if this game wasnt all "SONIC" and "GADDA GO FAST" i would totally place marble zone as the first level and green hill as the second... if green hill was slightly harder.
FUN FACT: The original running order of the zones in Sonic 1 (confirmed by level select) was Green Hill, _Labyrinth_, Marble, Star Light, Spring Yard, and then Scrap Brain / Final Zone. That actually makes more sense considering the zones' environments, but it was changed very late in production because Labyrinth turned out harder than expected and they wanted to make the difficulty curve less bullshit.
+Soufriere Labyrinth was a pain in the but. I'm just glad its not the second zone because alot of people will break their controllers and turn on the SNES under the cabnit.
+Soufriere I'll be damned. Labyrinth Zone can go to hell. xD I think it wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't panic and forget which bubbles you are supposed to pass and just push on. I always died waiting for bubbles in this one spot.
"Hello Sonic, you're a hedgehog with superspeed, enjoy green hill zone, run fast you little blue furball you." *gets through green hill zone* "Oh hello again Sonic, you made it through the Green Hill Zone eh? Good for you. Welcome to the Marble Zone where that superspeed of yours....yeah it's useless here, enjoy life in the slow lane hedgehog"
Always enjoyed this lvl. Didn't know folks thought it was that damn hard. Then again, Labyrinth Zone is the bane of my freaking existence in a Sonic game.
I wanted this zone so bad in generations :(... anyway sonic mania looks really good and it give me hope that we are finally going to get another good game after generations.
don't get me wrong, green hill is iconic... but boy, everyone seems to sleep on marble zone. god it's so fun. really whish that sega would do like a generations 2 or something, remastering the rest of the levels from the sonic games. spring yard, marble zone, emerald hill, etc... good stuff
Ah, lovely Marble Zone. With all the lava and spike that come with it. And the annoying exploding caterpillar enemies. I find it funny that people complain about it. When Labyrinth was 20 times harder, and was an absolute nightmare for me. And on top of that, there was Scrap Brain.
Maybe, This stage for me was pretty challenging. Especially the act 3, where you have to jump from hanging smasher to another one, with laval 1 floor down (last section before getting outside and meet the boss. )
Fuck this level, it comes right after the first level, it's hard as fuck you need to stop EVERY GODDAMN TIME YOU MEET A PILLAR. It's slow-placed, and you have to get through it EVERYTIME.
Well I think sonic 1 is a more platforming based game with some speed included in the game. Later sonic games such as sonic 2 and 3&K are more speed based.
Your remixes are and will continue to be the best we will miss you Dr. Rebernik I hope that new people in the sonic fandom and see your work appreciate it ... bye dr.Rebernik one of the best Sonic fandom remixers Hello I speak Spanish but still ... Does anyone know what happened to this channel? Dr. Rebernik one of the best 😭❤❤
I never knew people thought this level was hard, I just played through without thinking what was happening, I just died a few times in the boss (about 2-3 times) and thought it was an ordinary level.
It couldn't because of completely different music composition approach. This track you see here is made by using sound SAMPLES. Sega console back then had YM sound chip which is its own synthesizer using SINE wave and modifiers. And to be honest I like original more.
In sonic generations it should’ve gone Emerald hill zone Quartz quadrant zone Marble zone BOSSES Knuckles fight Big arm (even though it’s already in sonic generations on 3ds) Ice cap zone Lava Reef zone Windy valley BOSSES Death egg robot Shadow Grand metropolis City escape (I can’t lose that awesome remix) Night carnival zone BOSSES Silver Neo metal sonic Sweet mountain Windmill isle Scrap brain zone (sonic 1) Final boss
I remember Marble, and my gosh. It was tricky, but I enjoy a challenge! Hey, it IS better then LABYRINTH being the second zone like they were originally planning! Thank goodness that changed!
Look I'm going to be honest, I was deliberately provactive, it was a dick move on my behalf, due to a mixture of frustration and just needing someone to take it out on someone keyboard warrior style for my own personal amusement! You did the right thing by being rational, clearly stating that I was over the top and calling me out on it, but in a non-aggressive way. That is what you should do, I was hoping for a bit more of a verbal diatribe and challenge! I personally think it was the right thing to do for Marble Zone as sometimes a short sharp shock is useful in gaming! I get you and I'll not bother you again, but if you feel like having a fake comment war to make you feel better, I'm cool with that! A bit mild antagonism helps fire up the bodies chemical reactions, react faster and ultimately makes Marble Zone a little bit easier with all that adrenaline!
At least it's not as bad as the NES Kid Icarus difficulty curve. That shit was actually backwards somehow (First level is infuriatingly hard, after which the later levels are legitimately easier.
I've never played Kid Icarus, but I remember a Genesis/Mega Drive game called Gynoug and that was fucking hard, one-touch character kill and about 3 billion enemies on the screen (ok, I'm exaggerating slightly!) Still that's fucked up that the start is hard, but gets easier in Kid Icarus, it's kind of anti-climactic as I like a challenge and enjoy it when a game gets more difficult. However back to the original post, Marble Zone rules and compared to Labyrinth, it's a piece of piss, and compared the Scrap Brain Zone, particularly Scrap Brain Zone 3, it's a fucking cakewalk! You can't access the Special Stages in Scrap Brain, but even you could, it's almost impossible to retain 50 rings to the end of the level!
I found out that there's an unused track in the overlooked Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog, and that was an 8-bit version of Marble Zone. Strange, isn't it?
Dark EXE dang I don't have enough money. I spent it all on earthbound. I seriously thought it was from some youtube video or Nintendo video I never seen #ripnintendovideo

hahahahahhahahahahhahahahaha
What people should be asking is “am I the only one who didn’t like this level” instead
I feel like I loved the level. Thinking about it, I didn't. However, as a 39 year old, I love it lol
"Why is this level right after Green Hill Zone? It's too much harder and slower. Totally should've swapped placed with Star Light."
It could've been worse. Prototype versions, according to level select, most likely had LABYRINTH zone as the second zone.
And hey, it's nice to have Star Light as a breather before Scrap Brain.
Oh dear god, I get PTSD just by thinking about Labyrinth being the second one.
I'm not sure about this but I pretty much think that everyone despises water levels. Not only Sonic, but Mario and Rayman too.
Plus the order of music and scenery feel better this way.

Everyone used to complain about this zone all the time but I actually really love it.
Same here
*****
To me, it's the hardest zone, but I still love it. Plus my favourite Sonic theme is in it soo..
WolvelyGamer hardest zone to me would be scrap brain zone cause act 3
+ThatPaleKid88 yea this zone is fun, scrap brain was pretty hard

That explains the credits music.
I am one of the few people who find labyrinth zone easier than marble zone.

Am i the only person who actually likes this level?
You're not the only one. =D
I like it too!
So do I!
yes
No
I was stuck in this zone for literally months.
The music made it worth it
Boosting the base is probably the best way to bring out the theme of this track. Well done.
Ugh, that addictive bass!!! The bass made this track go bang!!!
Some soundtracks just make their stages so worth it... This song gives me such good vibes I could get stuck on Marble Zone forever.
i WAS stuck on marble zone forever lol
This is my favorite remix of Marble Zone.
Dat bass, man!

Always enjoyed this lvl. Didn't know folks thought it was that damn hard. Then again, Labyrinth Zone is the bane of my freaking existence in a Sonic game.

All the block pushing... I don't want to think about it...
I wanted this zone so bad in generations :(... anyway sonic mania looks really good and it give me hope that we are finally going to get another good game after generations.
yeah it really does, i hope sega creates a new 2d sonic series after mania
At least it arrived in Lego Sonic
Technically the music composer for sonic mania Tee Lopes did remix Marble zone
NeoKurow your dream came true.....

Sonic 1 zones are underrated especially Marble zone

All I like from this hell of a level is the music, THAT'S IT.
This lvl & starlight will never lose a place in my heart I love both of those lvl epically starlight cause of the music
Marble Zone Classic - Sonic Generations Remix on vowel is one of the ideas that comes to mind :v
I love this level.Little kid me would die here so much.Even at that point I knew the music was catchy.
My favourite sonic level by far
I love marble zone
I love this level!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME! I can imagine a marble zone mod with a issue, you can't use boost or spindash if don't wanna fall in hot lava
Now this is a certified BOP!
I'm the only one who always thought that this stage was easy?
It's easy, just really slow.
+Blaze Heatnix Really, REALLY slow!
It was, besides the fact that if you miss a platform you get launched back through the beginning of the level. That happened to me a couple of times
Maybe, This stage for me was pretty challenging. Especially the act 3, where you have to jump from hanging smasher to another one, with laval 1 floor down (last section before getting outside and meet the boss. )
@@dirtydeedsdonedirtcheap7818 Agreed. Makes me wish the freaking spin dash existed in Sonic 1 when it was ORIGINALLY RELEASED.
I think this level serves as a reminder that Sonic isn't just about speed, there's platforming in it as well
I LOVE THIS SONG!
The Remix too!
Fuck this level, it comes right after the first level, it's hard as fuck you need to stop EVERY GODDAMN TIME YOU MEET A PILLAR.

Well I think sonic 1 is a more platforming based game with some speed included in the game.

what? was i the only one who didn't have a hard time with this level as a kid?
1:47 this part is just filled with nostalgia
The level I think of most in Sonic 1 after Green Hill and Star Light Zone.
AMAZING!

I think this is how the Genesis would have sounded like if it had High Definition back in the day.
This sounds like how it should have been is 1991.
It couldn't because of completely different music composition approach. This track you see here is made by using sound SAMPLES. Sega console back then had YM sound chip which is its own synthesizer using SINE wave and modifiers.

Think this level is hard? They were originally gonna put Labyrinth Zone as the second level in this game!
wHHHHHHHYYYY?!
Joel the hedgehog: ah yes medieval marble grove what a beautiful place
I remember Marble, and my gosh. It was tricky, but I enjoy a challenge! Hey, it IS better then LABYRINTH being the second zone like they were originally planning! Thank goodness that changed!
Marble comes after Green Hill because the developers wanted you to take a break after the high speeds of Green Hill. I'm serious!
It could be worse. Originally the second level was gonna be Labyrinth.
***** That's how gaming should be, a challenge, not with unlimited continues or baby step difficulty. If you want easy, play Sonic 2!

Marble was actually supposed to be the Zone after Labyrinth, with StarLight following
I believe he meant the description to be a joke :/
Caterkiller was always my favorite Badnik for some reason...
I think I was too harsh with this level...
Marble Zone is fun until act 3
