  • Eighty-two years after she was born to a teenage girl and put up for adoption, Betty Morrell finally has met her 96-year-old birth mother. Morrell was born in 1933 in the central New York town of Utica to Lena Pierce, who named her Eva May. Social welfare officials took the baby away because Pierce, then 14, was herself a ward of the state. #InsideEdition

I'm laughing at the comments about how every one is freaking out that she gave birth at 14, the year she gave birth was 1933 a world different from today, this was normal for young teens that grew up in low income and lower middle income families and homeless teens, to have children at a younger age and if they weren't legally married or had a stable income they lost there child to social welfare

It was almost never normal. People noticed that young mothers died more often during or after pregnancy, so marrying later was a matter of survival. People think that everyone died young too when children died more often (and you needed a strong, mature wife to have several children and raise them) but people who lived into their teen years were likely to live to at least 50 years old, likely older.

There’s a girl on TikTok who had her baby when she was 14 and she so clearly loves her daughter, she’s even still with the father 2 years later. People tell her all the time she “ruined her life” and she always tells them “No, I made it better” She was rather depressed (from what I heard so take this with a grain of salt) before and having her daughter made her feel like she had a purpose. It would be absolutely awful if the state decided she couldn’t keep her baby.

I heard this story in a newspaper and even a book written about it. The mom was walking alone with a friend when they were approached by two men who raped them and the mom ended up getting pregnant, who believed that only storks bring you babies. she had the baby at 14, and was forced to give her up because one of the reasons was that the dad was a criminal.

Good. Enjoy being 14. My mother always told me to enjoy each age as it came because we never get it again. It was great advice. She said that because she saw too many teen girls trying to look and act grownup. I never felt pressure to look 25 when I was your age, because I knew I would enjoy that age sometime later, but I would never get to be a teen again. My mom was right.
