Ugh...you just know that big brother put himself in harms way to save his little brother...good on him but so tragic that the boy's big brother is gone now. RIP
The brother said he last saw him pinned by the mt lion, so he probably ran away.
@@user-no9go8mf4b the one that ran away was severely injured and it was the older brother that died. Cougar was probably attacking younger brother and older brother intervened and cougar started attacking him because he was the bigger threat and that's probably when the younger brother ran
Years of good advice ignored . Never go hiking or camping without protection. Machete, bear spray , even a ccw ... something. A well trained cane corso or pitbull...
The spray is easily obtained. But not everyone has access to a great gun with great STOPPING power. And how many people have well trained pit bulls and corsos to attack predators? The only pitbulls I know are only trained to go after cheese 🧀
Just don't get near any kids or the pitbull will go off to attack them instead of protecting you.
A pitbull or cane corso couldnt even kill a young mountain lion, always keep yourself armed, speak to the nature so you alert any predators nearby, and stay in numbers.

I came within ten feet of one in Lake County California 45 years ago. I was walking very quietly in manzanita underbrush during spring thaw. I surprised him. He was lying down! I stood completely relaxed, gazing off to middle distance away from him. He got up and loped away. It was magical.
Prayers to this young man’s family to suffer loss of a loved one so young and in such a tragic way,I wish your family all the strength and peace they can accept
Mountain lion was just doing what they naturally do
Not really. Mountain Lion attacks on humans are extremely rare.
@@thatpointinlifestill what they naturally do.
They still need to track and kill it
Mountain lions become more likely to attack humans after successfully killing one
they mostly just attack kids, since they’re smaller than them, the mountain lion attacking adult males is pretty rare and not normal
they got it@@oe3567
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, there’s no record of an attack by a Florida panther, which is the same species as the puma/cougar/mountain lion, Puma concolor. Western cougars have been added to the population to add genetic diversity, so there’ve been some of them out there too. Perhaps their timidity is due to unfamiliarity with humans; many of the cats in western states are in frequently visited areas.
This is why i carry a weapon on me whenever I go hiking
yup

Thanks for the tips genius
She might’ve had a litter close by
thats what i think too
My first thought
It's now been disclosed it was a healthy, 90 lb. male lion. Maybe a territorial defense thing or a young inexperienced cat that siezed the opportunity. Sad for all involved.
I will never understand the suffering that afflicts us all as fragile beings. I hope whatever awaits us all at our time is better than this.

@@Columbiagorgekayaker541 In California you have to have a permit to have a stick.
i honestly think you should have a carry on you for situations like this. so you dont get mauled by a predator
We’re in their territory
In most situations these big game animals strike quickly and covertly but it would give a chance to leave the scene wounded vs mortality
Yep. And human predators are the most deadly.
Having your own protection against predators, both 4 and 2 legged , is a good idea. The woods are much safer than the inner city.
Oh but that is illegal they made a law that infringes on or 2nd amendment right to make it a privilege not a right to carry a firearm so we just get eaten now 🤷🏻♂️ yay control 🛂
Play some Taylor Swift music that would scare it away
Womp womp
If you're gonna be out in an apex predator's territory, you better have something to protect yourself with. Hope the younger brother gets the help and support that he will obviously need after witnessing something so horrific.
Fk em both , shouldn't be out murdering wild life and they won't become the hunted.

Yep
Cats are ambush predators im a retired Billionaire Animal Wildlife-Felines
You could go on a full hike and have been stalked by a ML for hours and not know; the reason they hesitate is bc they’ve never encountered humans before which is why the ones who do kill humans are ultra dangerous bc without weapons it’s easier to kill humans than deer!
Trojans
In California? You're joking, right? Just about the whole state is a gun-free zone and they probably make it a felony to protect yourself against a mountain lion attack.
All the environmental damage from wildfires that killed a lot of the small animals they needed for food. Sorry for his families loss

He won the Darwin Award knowingly going into Mt lion territory with no protection. Just like the Harembe incident, the animals are not to be blame here.
I agree with your statement about carrying self protection with you in the woods; however, we are talking California and having guns is practically outlawed.
@@RoadKing-ky2bsGuns are not practically outlawed in California. There are thousands of hunters in California. What do you think they are using, peashooters?
@@Edcarpenter67 come on, you know exactly what I mean by what I said. Gun ownership is extremely restricted in CA, do you argue against that? Sure, people hunt in all 50 states, but these boys were not hunting nor armed while out on those woods from what was reported. Besides, shooting a mountain lion in CA, even in self-defense, is probably a felony. I say that out of sarcasm, but seriously at the sametime. If you are out in the woods with pea shooters then you are extra special kind of fool.
@@Edcarpenter67 obviously you don't understand sarcasm. But yeah, gun ownership is so tightly restricted and banned that they borderline on being outlawed. Are you willing to argue against that? Check your pride at the door.
@@RoadKing-ky2bs I have no desire to get into a needless argument regarding the tragic death of this young man not far from where I live. But your statement is easy to argue against. I know what the gun laws in California are. They are sensible and strong, resulting in one of the lowest gun rate deaths in the country. It is a total fallacy that gun ownership is so tightly restricted that they border on being banned. There was nothing preventing these young men from carrying a firearm while “hunting” for antlers. They were avid hunters and had firearms available. They lived in a rural area where pretty much everyone owns guns. This was the second death by a mountain lion in 30 years in Northern California. That they chose not to carry a firearm unfortunately resulted in the death of one of them and serious injury to the other. And that’s all I have to say on the subject. Goodbye.

Good thing we have all those warm and fuzzy mountain lion videos. The ones where people keep them as pets.
Im sorry but the mountain lion was doing what it normally does. It happens. You’re crazy for not taking a weapon with you during this time especially since their domain is being taken and destroyed 🤦🏼♀️

Seems like your life is way more at risk in the city than in the mountains. How many homicides have there been in the closest major city in past 20 years?
Amen
Lots of ignorant people with their comments about how you can’t have guns in California. Of course you can have guns in California. Thousands of hunters here and I guarantee they are not wrestling their pray to the ground.
Come on man that mountain kitty only wanted you to pet it. When a cali gets eaten by a mountain kitty someone gets their wings.
STAY HOME PEOPLE
Big cats in America don't normally mess with people unless those people are messing with it first. The real tragedy is killing the cat for doing what it is naturally supposed to.

Seen a Mountain Lion in my neighborhood one time which was crazy because where I’m at, it would take a 10-20 min drive to get to the edges of the city, which isn’t that long, it’s just how Las Vegas is and I kinda I figured the animal accidentally made its way into the city, I also seen another one too not far from the same area while back. kind of scary.
All this coming up while I’m planning my camping trip, definitely goa be protected.
When the hunter becomes the hunted .
They were looking for antlers.
They entered the mountain lion’s natural habitat, big mistake! What a terrible ordeal!
When mankind has done to this world is disgusting and despicable! Animals have rights too!
It is illegal to carry a firearm while bowhunting in California. These kids were following the law and one of them was killed because of it. Tragic.
As tragic as this death is, I really wish they hadn’t euthanized the mountain Lion. When we enter nature we understand the risks, it’s their home.
There going to kill every animal insight until they get the right one ... 😢

I want to hear his story how it happened. How was the lion still there by the time police found him in the woods
The lion was put down, but a thug gets probation. strange

Northern California is huge. Where was this?
El Dorado county
well.. this is the mountain lions land...
These critters are pure survivors!! The grizzly and Jaguar have been basically eliminated from the southwestern US but the mountain lion thrives!! Good for thr critter!!
How terrible!! for those young men, and their family! 😢 However, as the reporters stated, this type of attack IS extremely RARE!! So, it begs the question, why this time, and why these 2 young men? 1st, were they near the lions den? 2nd was the lion, a LIONESS? with young she was protecting? I just wonder. Whenever I've been in the forest/wilderness I TRY!!! to be aware and conscious of the fact that I am in the animals domain, and try not to infringe on their specific habitat.
I just hope this doesn't start a panic and set off the idea to hunt down more these creatures, with the misguided thought to protect "ourselves, IF the lion(-ness?) was only doing what wild animals do.
All of us need to respect the rules of the wilderness, to respect the animals domain. While being prepared and taking ways to protect yourselves, by educating yourself regarding the location you're going to, and what types of wildlife inhabit that area. Along with learning the signs to look for, that indicate you've entered their domain, and how to avoid encounters with the any wildlife. I know historically people did the best they could to be smart and safe and tragedies still happened.
Just remember the forest/wilderness is the HOME for the wildlife and they only react as an animal to protect themselves, their habitat and young. We humans would do well to do the same.
Be smart. Protect yourselves. Know the terrain and its inhabitants. Respect their domain. And yield to the animals rights in THEIR domain/home, as the intelligent creature (human beings!!) you are, Stay Safe.
It was a 90 lbs male that killed the guy
@@DoomZzx Again, TRAGIC!!😥 However, male or female lion, the humans were in the wilderness, the wild animals domain, habitat/home. And as MOST people know! Animals always act on instinct. Only, those boys/men know the truth of what occurred/happened leading up to the attack. All of us can only speculate on what happened. It could have just as easily been a bear, a wolf, a wolverine! Etc. Depending on the location/terrain. So as the intelligent creature (the human) it is always OUR responsibility to be smart and to be safe by knowing where we're going and how to be safe, and prepared as best as we can!! Respect the animals and their domain! Knowing in any "confrontation" with wildlife, humans will suffer!, i.e. loose any battle, with injuty or with fatalities.
Well, the mountain lion was in its own territory, and these boys walked up into where the lion lives, and I’m so glad to see that our mountain lines are thriving and still wandering the planet, taking care of what needs to be taken care of by a big cat sorry to hear about the boys ran into it butI’m for the animals must be prepared for bears or big cats
Well the mountain lion didn't do anything wrong.. where on their turf ...into the wild it's not the mountain lion fault cause where in the lion space
Do not go to their lair. It's their territory. Just stay home and play your Xbox. You'll still be alive and well tomorrow.
That’s so scary
If you're going to be out in the wild, specially in those areas take into consideration there are bears, mountain lions and now even wolves, make sure you have some sort of protection to defend yourself. A knife, pepper spray, a walking stick, a rock, anything that can deter an attack. This tragic incident shouldn't have happened specially when there's multiple people defending.
#1 Don't run. You'll never outrun a predator and that will incite a prey drive response. Wolves are still very rare in California, but even if you do run into one, they are far more likely to flee from you than attack (unless perhaps you have a dog with you, they are ill, starving, or protecting a den. Even then, the likelihood is extremely low.) Mountain lions, however, are ambush predators and to me, the most likely to attack out of any predator in the area. Bears definitely can/will as well, but in general, they will usually ignore humans (although some have grown habituated to humans leaving food about which is having disastrous consequences for them.)
@@Lakota828 I never said a person should run, that's a given do not run at all. Wolves might be rare in California but they've been recorded in that specific area where this attack happened. The local bears are black bears which are known to be more likely to attack than say brown bears, a mountain lion is likely to attack, however this were two full grown male humans, that cat must've been very desperate or was being very protective, if the younger guy wouldn't have ran, maybe the cat wouldn't have attacked, it's hard to know really. Cheers 🍻
They aren’t rare, it’s well known in Eldorado county to watch out for Mt Lions. Dogs die protecting their families.
