This is the new Land Rover Defender 90 - and Mat's here to tell you everything you need to know about it!
So what are the key features? Well for starters, gone are the four doors from the regular Defender - the 90 only comes two! However, that doesn't necessarily mean you're short of space on the inside. Don't believe us? Well, you'll have to check out the video to see for yourself!
What's more, when it comes to performance, the 90 has more than enough engine choices to meet your needs. We've got our hands on the D250 edition for this video, which is powered by a 3-litre straight-six diesel with (you guessed it...) 250hp. There's also a choice of petrol engines, with the range-topper being the P525 which delivers 525hp from a 5-litre supercharged V8!
And of course, given it's a Defender, it's still absolutely jam-packed with electronic features & fittings to handle some of the toughest off-road terrain possible!
The question is, with prices starting at £45,000, does the Defender 90 have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with its four-doored brother? You'll have to keep watching to find out!

I saw one on the road a few days ago... You all can say what you want about the new defender, but it sure looks spectacular.
Here in the countryside there are only two kind of vehicles: pickup trucks and Defenders… I love this car!

I used to hate this design. Recently unfortunately I have fallen in love with it. However I am still not sold on it as a Defender. I can't help but feel like it's more of a Discovery than a proper Defender. Idk.

I used to think the new 110 was more a new Discovery than a new Defender, but recently realised it's actually the new Range Rover. The people who used to buy Range Rovers, the country gent types or people fancy themselves as such will be put off by the new Range Rovers because they're now gaudy new money monstrosities, but the new Defender has the right mix of being too expensive for the proles, isn't too showy about it, and can tow a horsebox over a damp field.
All of which is possibly a problem for the 90, because all the types of people I can think of who want a new Defender would want a 110, unless maybe the country gents will be buying them for their country wives to do the weekly M&S run.
I think it's good but not great design wise , although the capability is more than enough

I bet those that say they prefer the "old version" haven't actually been in both vehicles. To my mind this new version is vastly superior in everyway - from its off road ability, the way it tows, its comfort, safety, right thru to its on road handling. The old one was always a bit of a pig's ear - given that it was designed using 1940s architecture and hadnt really changed over the past 65+ years.
Yes its an expensive vehicle, but isnt everything now? Basic price is £45k and at present you can run one of these for a year and sell it for the same price as you bought it for, as the demand is so strong for them and the factory's output is low due to availability of components etc. Dont forget when the series 1 was introduced in the late 40s, it was deemed a very expensive vehicle and less than a 1000 were sold in the first years as a result - a far cry from this new Defender

You are right. The old Defender sold 300 a week, the new one, even with shortages, is selling 2,000 per week.
Not a fan of 4x4's, but I've always had a soft spot for a Defender.

I wouldn't consider a daily driver that doesn't have 4wd and ground clearance. It doesn't take many snow storms for them to prove their worth, but unfortunately not many 4x4 are actually 4wd anymore. I even had to add front and rear lockers to my Ram to get me through the deep stuff.

I really love the new Defender inside and especially out; looks sweet as hell and is no doubt seriously capable. But it's a car for UA-camrs and "wealthy farmers" so "go right ahead and Buy It" is probably as irrelevant a conclusion as can be.
This car is good for who's meant to be: wealthy farmers, land owners, and their wives.
The old defender owners have already switched to Japanese pick ups

I love this kind of Offroader like this! Three Doors, Short, big Wheels, higher Body. Like Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco or Suzuki Jimny and others.
Hi Matt, the old Defender did not have the aluminium chequer plate fitted, owners put it on! Yes, it strenghtens the panel underneath it and allows you climb on it.

To my mind Matt is one of the best car reviewers today. No one comes close! He is definitely the only one who could bring Top Gear back to life! At 60 he’ll be primed to put the Grand Tour on steroids and then he can end his life as a true car journalist talking to sheep on his own farming programme!

wow its amazing mat watson sir there is one thing i like about carwow and mat what is that means mat does very funny things while reviewing a vehicle which makes the viewer more entertaining and he also tells all the important information about the reviewing vehicle thus the carwow is seperated from other car review channels some reviewers speak like a waiter in a restaurent means they say just the specs and they drive and they show the design of the car and thats it and thats too boring but with mat its not like that its very entertaining and interesting and ofcourse i like the landrover defender 90 with steel wheels because its so rugid and good looking{atleast for me} thank you carwow and thank you mat for helping to decide which version of defender to buy and keep it up mat
The Toyota LC Prado commercial van version, seems way more suited as a workhorse. If you want to skip the pick-up market.
The Defender 110 commercial van is way better.
The LC will be in the shop a whole lot less than any LR.
@@rich7447 But you'll be in the Chiropractors office a lot more after driving that awful LC. 😂 The Defender's ride feels likes a cushion full of marshmallows compared to the Toyota.
@@gc2234 We have an LC 150 (Lexus GX 460) and it is a great ride. I also save a lot of wear and tear on the back by not having to push it off the road to wait for the tow truck.
@@rich7447 I used to have a Lexus GX and it was awful compared to my current Defender. Clearly you have very low standards. 😂 And I've never needed to worry about my back because my Defender has been absolutely bulletproof.

One of the things it has I which more modern cars have: both a usb and a usb C socket. So nice to have, especially when you frequently drive different cars and then find out you’ve got the wrong cable with you
