Every one of us who's been in the military, tried to telepathically tell ya how to unlock the lights... :) You guys just weren't listening! Such a beautiful area. Glad to see Mr Ed out and about with ya
The light panel is set up that way so you don't absent-mindedly turn on the lights and give away your position. You actually have to put effort into it.
Absolutely! Part of the reason I'm here too 🐾 Watching the recoveries is awesome and all, especially as a former HEMTT operator, but seeing the dogs and Ed and everyone in the crew live their best life out there in the beautiful Utah wilderness is everything now. The recoveries were just "clickbait" all along🤠
@Group_Anonymous Right there with ya brother!👍 Doing convoys & recoveries during the week, then pulling Detroit 92 Powers out of the HET's and HEMTT's at the FOB until next mission. I left around the same time. Thank you for your service!
Sorry to hear that man. I wish these pups had more time on this earth to spend with us. They're wonderful companions and absolutely a part of my family.
Really sorry for your loss, I know how tough that is and how terrible it feels. They're with us for way too short a time, but in other ways theyre always with us.
Hey Matt, the reason those joints on the driveshaft are that small is becasue the portal axles have roughly a 2:1 gear ratio. Therefore the torque on the drifeshaft is only half as much as in a conventional driveline, anyways they still broke.
yes it broke, but the Humvee and all its parts are also likely pushing 40 years old. It doesn't look like they were doing anything that would have been particularly hard on the drivetrain when it broke. Point being just because the part failed doesn't automatically mean it isn't strong enough to do the job, sometimes things just wear out.
@@andrewr2650 Or got a good hit a decade ago then the miles eat away at it. If you check over your vehicle and get to know it 'breakdowns' get less and things go on the service list
@@auldmanBecause the engine isn’t directly connected to the driveshafts. There’s a transmission and transfer case in there. Adding a gear reduction at the wheels means you need less input torque before the wheels. It’s like how planetary axles on heavy equipment lets them run smaller axles and driveshafts because there is a gear reduction at the wheels.
it's awesome to see Ed there with you how is he doing hope all is well with him and God bless miss seeing him glad that you are close and you help each other
I'm sure there will be a million of these but hopefully one of them helps in the future. Below the start/stop switch is a series of 3 switches in a sorta triangular formation. With your left index finger, lift the bottom right switch as if you were going to rotate it counter clockwise. At the same time use your thumb to push the top switch all the way to the right, your headlights are now on. On the floor, left of your left foot is a button. That turns your brights on.
Now that I think of it, in the future, if you need it, on your turn signal arm is a switch that allows the lever to go up past what would be signaling for a right turn, this is your hazard signal. All signals only work if the lights are on.
lol tactical vehicles lights are a pain until you get to know them. Bottom right is a lock. Then you switch it to running lights, white light. Or black out.
I was driving that Humvee when it broke. I had no warning to the boom but thankfully I was only moving about 10mph and stopped in about 10ft. I rolled it back to move it out of the way. Glad it was an easy out!
I think an interview with Ed about his life, his history, etc, would be maybe the best MORR video of all time. How 'bout it? Do it while he is still here!
Matt recovered to vehicles one was a van and the other a Hummer. So nice to see Ed in the video! Kaulin and Matt had to call to figure out how to turn on the lights on the Hummer. It was more complicated than it should be! Good video!
Your light switch problem brought flash back to Vietnam. Since military vehicles didn't have a key ignition our unit wired the ignition into the light switch to make it harder for someone to midnight requisition our vehicles. It did make it interesting when you had to turn the headlights off to enter a guarded gate. Y'all did great!
Clean your hands with dirt and water, What ever it takes. When camping I used to get on the edge of the creek and use sand and water on hands and dishes, pretty much the same thing. As always thanks for sharing the video with us.

You don't want to accidently flip on the lights at the wrong time in a military vehicle. They designed it to be simple but intentional.
