Let's gooo, right on time for me to listen to this while I pretend I'm doing something at work.
this is the perfect podcast to listen to whilst huffing paint under a bridge off of the 10 fwy and crenshaw. thanks guys!
Birgit said something that is sticking with me, when talking about the schools of thought surrounding death of the author. That a photograph should stand for itself without the story behind it.
As an individual photographer who is not filming my process like either of our hosts, my process straight up doesn’t matter to anyone looking at my photographs.
But as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about and developing their process (sometimes literally) it’s what I’m most interested in talking about.
I think I will approach it differently from now on. Thank you.
Starting a Birgit Buchart fan club
New episode of the mamiyadaddies podcast… today’s a great day ❤
The animation's are gold
Birgit is a super interesting guest, loved hearing her talk about her relationship to art more broadly than just photography
It's certainly what sets creatives apart!
Love the podcast it is like watching Beavis and butthead interviewing a bohemian lol
I love the podcast. Please keep it up! Can't wait for a MamiyaMigos T-shirt.
I am so happy with this format! Especially since I recently went down the grainydays-badflashes-rabbit-hole ❤
Birgit always adds something special to every episode she’s on! Interesting to hear her career path with Lomography too! I do wish Lomography had a better website, and the products were better separated.
Finally got around to listening to this episode. Brilliant stuff guys! I really loved how mutual it was; with Birgit asking questions to you as well as vice versa!
appreciate the chat. glad to see Birgit on here! also hoping for more 16mm film stock options 🤞🏽
Currently doing some advanced photo retouching this afternoon (which is quite a new thing for me, actually) and that Mamiyamigos serie is probably be binged in one sitting. This is really fun AND interesting, which is something some podcasts don't get, so I say bravo!
* clap clap like Leo in the Wolf of Wall Street *
Great ep, keep em coming. Can't wait to see that west coast trip
Just perfect ! So fun to listen, please keep going !
Great episode. I always love hearing what Lomography is up to
"I choked on one of those"
"A gun?"
dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we need more of that dark humor. Veteran approved lol
I agree. Shots have been fired.
Really on target with that one
Loved this episode. Specially Birgit's reasoning for the partially hidden Lion King poster. I find it to be a good reminder to always pay attention to the details.
I loved this episode and Birgit is great!
Big love!!
Bring the merch! :D
13:30 Jason trying not to puke from the Flamin' Dew
Thanks. Excellent episode. I also vote for large format.
My best tip for taking portraits, do the lighting first if it’s in studio, if it’s out on location know what sports get good light at what times and then it’s not something on your mind when shooting and the only thing you have to worry about is connecting with the subject.
I like to setup little interviews with whoever I’m shooting and spend time getting them Into conversation and forgetting about the camera I’ll keep popping off a ton of shots whilst I’m talking to them but i will always keep their focus on me and the conversation so that the results feel candid even tho they’re quite clearly setup images.
Loved this! Keep them coming. Now you just need to sit down with a Kodak rep with some push and get them to bring back colour infrared :)
“Yeah” “yeah yeah yeah”
Loved it !!!
Wish you guys posted this more often!
I just left my local camera store with a brand new episode to listen to on my way home!
If Lomography decided to start making instant film I would get a Lomography tattoo! Anyway, great episode!
The gun joke made me spray my caffenol all over my desk, live laugh love.
"Like rain..... I'm glad we have that in there" pure gold!
Lol loved the animated characters.
Live, love, lomo !
incredible. legendary. awesome.
Animation section was the best. Worth the digressions 100%
What is lomo juice and where can I get it?
That was a very nice podcast. You should do invite guest from time to time.
Great episode, been a lomo fan for a long time. What's up with the green screen cans in the corners?
Great to see Jason coherent in this one.
Did they actually let you guys in the Leica store ?
Thank you! 📸
The whole idea of inside out made me happy and sad and cry all at various point and and the same time
Can't wait to see the test videos for the lomo apparats!

Aaaaaaaah, the Taco Bell of Podcasts.
an intersection between art and artist's intent/background vs. impact, edward hopper/nighthawks, writing and photography, and capturing melancholy: The Lonely City by Olivia Laing touches on all of these. the central theme is loneliness in a big city - specifically new york - and how various artists from the city captured it in their work, and how their own loneliness permeated that.
Edward Hopper's chapter is the first one, and Laing points out something interesting: though his work is mostly characterized as lonely, he was very evasive, almost in denial about it in the scarce interviews he did. I suspect he didn't really intend his paintings to be *lonely* (they were just scenes he happened to pass by during a commute or walk around the city) but perhaps the loneliness of his life found its way in anyway.
The book also explores Andy Warhol and Davide Wojnarowicz' life and work and loneliness, among other artists. I think it's a good read especially when you're maybe figuring out how to capture loneliness in visual art.
also, petition to get lomo to release lomo juice 😂
I LOVE Olivia Laing & David Wojnarowicz- definitely big influences for me too on that topic and many more
@@birgitbuchart2839 This makes me so happy to hear! Best of luck to your project (it sounds really good) and hope we see it whenever it comes out 🙏
For some reason I want to hear the whole of the intro song! 😂
Is that an SL 1200? Is it broken? Why is it just on the shelf and not facing forward like it was just chucked there.
The intro song to this podcast is always such a jumpscare lol
This is good.
Love this. I feel complete knowing there’s conversations like this existing in the world. Maybe that’s a lonely story of my photography life 🥲
sick sitcom intro
That Jasmine shot was great
LOL when California meets Austria 😂
good job
Over thnking the Lion King. Great way to start a podcast
Busted out laughing @ 8:51 XD
Never let go Caleb, never let go. 😂
perfect
I was going to hit the 'like' button but it was at 420. SO I am waiting for someone else to ruin that and then i'll hit the like. Great episode!
I really need to second the Petzval in medium/large format ... despite being super late to the posting party. I would so put that on a Pentax 6x7. Anyway, Birgit is amazing!
Looking for this 8x10 rower selfie…
Is the guy on the right wearing suspenders and a knit hat? Can you guys do some lumberjack videos?
If you do end up doing that road trip, let me know when you'll be coming through the Eureka/Arcata area! I'll bust out my favorite Mamiya cameras and meet up with you.
You should try Street Photography in Paris. I did that shit when I was there and I didn't even know street photography was a thing!!
Shame Lomo was effectively unheard of in the UK till about two or three years ago. Apparently going since 1982, (where were you when I needed fun film back then). :P It's mostly just a bit too pricy over here though, approx 2x everything else.
Still can’t believe you never enjoyed a drunken night on the og 4 loco….
Caleb is like the Bert Chrysler to Jason's Tom Segura. But in a good way.
So no one's going to point out that Caleb said Pollock wrote Fight Club?
Im sorry but since when is disney not a big thing here in Europe?
you know it has to be done, but you got to get the farther him self Kyle Mcdougall on here now
Lol! I'd totally shoot lomopurple in 4x5, the one roll I shot of it in 120 actually gave me a nice b&w silver print.
It’s one thing if Caleb wants to be a spastic goober when it’s just the two of them talking but he should probably reign it in if they’re interviewing somebody
49:43 see you guys at the Pacifica Taco Bell 🌮 on hwy 1?
jason, where's THE MTN DUE?
Lomo Juice?
It looks fake, like it was shopped into the video doesn’t it?
More women photographers! 🎉
Muahaha... @10:55 ... what did he do for the CIA? Tell us ;)
12:38 when Jason's joke doesn't hit
Lomo film is great, too bad on eBay it’s being sold for three kidneys, part of a lung and an aortic valve…
Süß ;)
I’d like to donate my next paycheck to this platform. I live check to check btw
There is only one slogan Lomo should use, and its #kodakbringbackaerochrome
nice SUSspenderz Brohammed.
I think Jason should more engage with what Caleb has to say! Sometimes he cuts him off with a different question etc. :S
I refuse to believe Jason has legs. Those must be prosthetic.
Check your output levels, the video is too quiet. Especially Jason's mic
Great episode until Jason said In and Out was better than Five Guys. What the fuck was that?
two goofballs and a girl
Jason was so bored during that poetry shit lol
Ok, 3 min in and Birgit doesn't sit so well with me.
Min 9. "My grandparents are so old, no offense."... Arnold handled California much better than Birgit has so far.
This Ms. Buchart making political statements and offending the American way at the same time are misguided. Especially when she is taking on behalf of a company. My opinion.
This girl is annoying 😅
I appreciate lomo… but still annoying
I was really into this until she said she had a bf 😭
yes lomo 800 is my life force
