This is one of the reasons I love you guys. You are not afraid to tell your opinion. The other reason is, you guys explain how you get your bottles. There are so many wiskey tubers that have stuff sent to them just to review and that's bull. There are a lot of people our there hunting for stuff and not funding and for someone to sit in there basement or where ever and have bottles sent to them isn't rite. I get it's free marketing for the distillery but come on, you guys are about the only whiskey tubers I watch now. Keep it up

For me, it's pretty much anything and everything from Brown Forman.
I suspect that they share the same yeast strain across all of their different distilleries, because they all have some kind of banana note that I just do not like at all.
    Same with Barton/1792

Holladay is pretty good. Seriously need to try rickhouse bottles and one barrel bourbon bottles from them. It can go head to head with most of your faves in some blinds. May not win but it may finish higher than expected.

Don’t take this the wrong way, there isn’t much of the Woodford Barrel Batch proof left, having said that, luckily the Woodford Double Oaked is good😁!! I’ve never had Dickel anything because none of the bourbon reviewers I watch on UA-cam like it , I’m afraid to buy any Dickel.

The one Dickel I tried was a gift. The 15 year I believe. I've only had one pour. The Flintstone vitamins note is real! It scared me away. I should probably try the bottle again.

    • @StillLivinginthewoods
      @StillLivinginthewoods 3 місяці тому

@@mattschmitt9924 My experience with Dickel is that if I drink it 1st, that weird note doesn't stick out as much. But if I drink it after something else, then it is kind of unpleasant.

I also get an off-putting note from Dickel products (except the rye, which they source from MGP). I liken the note to a metallic limestone. Oddly, I got the same note from an Augusta Distillery Old Route 8 bottle I bought last Fall.

Great review! I'd say on the Rebel, the good one is the Small Batch Reserve. On the Woodford, the higher proof versions are good from 2023 and 2024. I get a JD nose though.

OF1910, it is essentially burnt sugar.
4Roses SiB, it is so bad, I can't bring myself to buy anything else from 4 Roses.
That's pretty much my lost. I am not going to run out and buy anything from Willet or Dickel, but neither are overly offensive to me.

  • @pizzawarlord9232

Dickel is just does not have anything I enjoy so far. My 13 yr BiB sits on shelf and only gets drunk as a sample swap or s guest wants to try it. Haven’t opened my Dickel 15 yr store pick from a few years ago since never had one I liked (was a friend’s store so bought it supporting him)
Woodford batch proof and masters series I like but won’t buy as they are not worth half their cost. Every time my group blinds one of them it comes in last and normally by a big amount. It is good by itself just overpriced but when compared to other bottles does not hold up.
I like Ben Holloday but not a go to pour. Only have the 6 yr BiB and just bought the Soft Red Wheat.
The one I don’t like that everyone seems to love is Evan Williams BiB. Sure a good mixer But so it almost every other bourbon. The EW BiB is just ethanol forward trash to me. Like the EW 1783 for a budget pour.

It seems fairly universal from what I have seen across the whiskeyverse, and I am in agreement, that the Ben Holladay wheater is significantly better than the rye. You have the rye there. Furthermore, the barrel proof of the wheater (which they call rickhouse proof) is the best offering. I will make the claim now that you will agree once you try it. It's been compared to Full Proof, which it's not quite there in my opinion. But hey, it's also not $200+.

Old Town BiB is to WFE purple as BT is to Stagg imo and afaik. Same profile, maybe just a little younger, less proof and not a select barrel. I like it for a cheap good pour or in an old fashioned. And I like Pure Ky neat as a good bang for buck Willett pour. But like the WFE 4yr rye, people love or hate it.

EC Small Batch had a 12 year age statement until 2016 or so. The mash bill was meant to be aged for at least 12 years. The mash bill just does not work on a 5 or 6 year old bourbon.
I miss the good old days. Austin Nichols WT 101 had an 8 year age statement when I was in college. My first several bottles of Bookers were distilled under the supervision of Booker Noe.

Definitely feel the same about a lot of these. I do kind of like the BH rickhouse proof options although I have to be in the mood for them. I think the main thing I haven’t loved that others seem to love would be Barrell Seagrass and Dovetail. Maybe it was just me that day, as we were at a whiskey festival and had tried a lot of things up to this point, but it definitely didn’t hit the mark for me. I always give things a couple chances though so both will likely get sampled again at some point.
